in Soviet Russia, vaporization delete *_you!_*
What part of the video was that?
@@DiggerDeeper01 2:59
imagine being vaporized but all you see is a cutout of your location
Imagine you’re a combine and the guy you’re supposed to kill hops in a metal pod laying there like mummy completely immune to your advanced alien pulse rifle
gordon really said "🛌"
Or he throws his pod in a thing, hops in, and gets vaporized and you're like

It's Gordon's Absolutely Safe Capsule.
gordon going blankie mode
"The game now ends" is such a weird message to be seeing there
4th wall break
I understand the failure messages after Episode One come from the Vorts, as G-man was cut from you. The Singing Vortigaunt easter egg also hints at this being a game.
@@AdrianRojasF many years and multiple playthroughs later, only after reading your comment did i realize that the g-man connection being severed is the reason the vortigaunts become the new "game-over narrator", holy fucking shit

The train tracks thing could've been the Combine shelling the area in an attempt to slow down Gordon, after he passed through the first time. Dunno what they hoped to accomplish, but even the Combine make stupid decisions sometimes.
Sometimes?

This is easily explained by Gordon being a highly trained profissional
Honestly, this video should just be titled: "What 3500 hours of Half-Life 2 does to a mf"
"Watch closely as this train disappears into the tunnel"
**Sounds of train getting closer**
holy shit this is amazing
laughed a lot at the pod segment, never even knew that was possible

2:51 let my man’s sleep, he’s tired.
I noticed that they sounded weird in that hallway, but I always assumed it was just the acoustics of it.
And for that part where the Route Kanal train starts moving again, the razor train goes through the tunnel too, despite being too tall for it.
It is. It's caused by interference.
Pretty rude of the Combine soldiers not to carry you to Breen after you tucked yourself into the pod.
Guess that’s why they invade rather than say please! Oy!
Fun fact: the HEV suit and crossbow both zoom in at the exact same amount.
There's also a part of the mines in EP2 where the ceiling is partially unmodeled and you can see into the void/blue hell. It's completely accessible and is to the right of the elevator.
Brushes are still techically modelled in map editor, they just were painted into "nodraw" materials with flags to tell map compilers to purge faces.
I haven't played HL2 but in Gmod there crossbow zoom is just a biiit stronger than the HEV (b key) one
blue hell is in gta san andreas, source has hall of mirrors

I'm so glad the merry go round motor is getting recognized, I remember finding that the first time I played through as a kid, and just spent nearly an hour trying to launch myself with the spin physics lmao
(also 5:13 WHY does the fire get bigger?)
they probably scaled down the flame after testing due to something like obstructing player's view too much but forgot to scale down the following map's fire
why wouldn't the fire spread with time? very important lore actually
@@breezingwing5574 They explain it in episode 3.
probably to help discourage the player from going the wrong way
they tried to add moss but instead added real fire.
That merry go round switch is trully wtf. I played the game countless times now and I had no idea.

honestly i'm surprised this wasn't mentioned sooner, i've known about it since i was like, a kid-

This is called the mandela effect
@@romanm.3529 uhh no? Mandela is when you misremember things amd are convinced that was reality. I simply didnt know thay switch even existed.
@@mostdakka3295 no, you are not misremembering, in 2004 this switch didn't exist. I see tons of mandelas in games, in Half-Life 2 also. When exiting the shaft after Ravenholm, the tracks go to the left now, it used to go to the right.
How can you misremember you core memories? Don't gaslight yourself or others, pal
How dedicated must you be to exploring this 2004 game quirks to figure out that if you go back on that one specific city 17 map the fire gets larger???

Well the reason why it sound weird in that hallway is because of source's echoing effect and it's not just in that hallway many places in half life 2 do that.
2:43 and why he eepy 😂
I love this type of content and even more so when done in your style because you can dig deep down and explain most of the cases. Keep up the good work.
I just imagine gordon wrapping himself in the pod like a baby just to avoid getting hurt
I think my greatest discovery in hl2 was how great dog's ball was at killing and distracting zombies in Ravenholm.
I don't think I'd ever actually seen the fail state of the final battle in ep 2 until now lol
I just started merry go round in the Black Messa East scrapyard, didnt tryed that before. But there is one weird bug i just accidently figured out just a few moments ago in the same place. Maybe Pinsplash didnt know about this one. When dog starts throwing boxes at the player to catch it with the grafity gun, if you put another box, or a barrel just before a dog grabs one box to throw it from the container, the box that Dog grabs explodes in the container. Im not sure if that is a famous bug, but i just accidently bumped into it.
The disappearing screen looks might just be intended to be an old CRT. They can look kinda grey when they're off.
I hate it when I get deleted. Happens to highly trained professionals as well it seems.
I'm a Quake modder/coder, and it's funny seeing how various of those quirks are rooted in things that come all the way from the Quake engine
3:49 Thats something we usually do in Synergy[hl2 co-op]

Also, you can die at the end of Half-Life 2 right before G-Man says hi and it still continues as normal.
I can't wait another 3500 hours for you to find more stuffs.
idk how many more of these you can make but they’re so good
Amazing Work
Cool stuff my dude!!
I found this very interesting. Good video.
After some time, we’ll know about the things in Half Life 2 so much that we would be able to figure out what the entire Valve team liked to eat when they worked on Half Life 2.
I found something interesting:
The codebase that ep1 and ep2 use checks your moddir and based on the directory you play it toggles some features e.g. LegacyFlashlight: if start a source game whose directory name is hl1, hl2 or episodic then the game will disable the flashlight meter and use the aux power. If the moddir doesn't match with these names then it will enable the flashlight meter. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything else on this matter.
3:43 the reason why it sounds like that is because Dr. Magnuson has a room that his basically showed of the radio sound
Now the vaporized pod one is just weird and creepy.
0:00 This is a normal occurance, because if you zoom, you're telling the game that your FOV should be like 50, but with holding Z, you tell the game once again to put it at 30.
Now because both are acting upon the player's FOV constantly, it will be switching between 50 and 30 really fast, but most of the time it will never go to actual 50 FOV since this function is way to fast. One way to fix this is if there was a boolean call of whether which zoom was called upon. If it was the Z keybind Zoom, or the crossbow zoom, and then you can temporarily disable the other until you let go of said hotkey. (Right Click or Z)
In Episode 2 in the area with the first Hunter fight, depending if you visit the transmitter before or after powering up, Alyx's line will change.
6:11 *dies of facts*
Very slightly related, but in the last battle of EP2, _any_ strider you spawn can start to walk towards the missile silo and blow it up. For people less familiar with the source engine, this seems unremarkable, but for 14 y/o me that had it drilled into my head that 99% of npcs in HL2 needed to be named in order to be affected by a scripted command, it was the wildest thing.
That fact alone let me play for hours on end on that map, making huge npc battles in a modded EP2.

Wow, amazing attention to details. I haven't played for 3500 hours, but I must have played for 400+, and I haven't found 1/20th of these things.
I've never seen the failstate for the White Forest Strider invasion - I've always either cleared that section first try, died by other means, or just reloaded a save of things weren't going well.
That game over message is hilariously condescending, essentially saying that the game knew you were this bad from the start before ending itself. Would've been even better if they went the extra mile and just have the credits play along with it, to really sell the "the game ends now" line.
i think the biggest shock ive learned from this is what happens when you fail to stop the striders, i've always saved/ loaded at every strider so ive never let one get to that stage before o.o
3:12
That looks similar to TF2's impulse (already don't remember which one exactly) command which erases objects when implied to you.
@pinsplash I did this on the 360 Orange box. I pushed Alyx through a door that she wasn't supposed to enter (you two split up), and the game copied her to the next area with me. She would be talking through the loudspeaker, while her doppelganger followed (and assisted) me through the level. Later when she's supposed to join back, there became 2 of them :).
3:05 Ah, so that's where entities go to when they're deleted from the game.
the same effect happens if you get near the window between the airlock and the control room in eli lab
It's like facts & glitches series
3:27 a similar (or maybe the same) bug happens in portal when you use impulse 101

You can take the ball you play with The Dog up to a point where you crawl through the window before antlion guard fight in Nova Prospect.
the crossbow icon from hl2 is from hl1 with a mag on it
question; if you take the stalker pod to an edge with the gravity gun and enter it as its falling down the citadel, will the death barrier below still kill you when you reach it?
some did and some didn't
you should do some of the bugs and glitches in the previous versions like the release version of hl2 or maybe the day 1 patch
Gordon got sent to the backrooms when that pod got deleted
3:04 Oh wow that sure is something
About those train tracks, perhaps they blew up that highway bridge in the hopes of stopping freeman or something and so on etc. etc. Dunno.
fantastic
Pinsplash fun fact : in ep1 in the last chapter there's normal sound o nothing like of start hl2 but beform the last chapter you can here attack's etc
I actually found some of these out of bounds places when playing Temporal Assassin, because the player has much higher mobility in that mod.
2:45 Huge Mother 3 vibes

If I had to guess why the fire gets bigger, it would probably be because the fire entity from the previous map gets carried over to the next map. Doubling the number of fire entities in that spot, making it bigger.
The one with the train moving again was so goofy
