I think my issue with your videos nowadays is that you say a lot of things with half truths in them. You act or imply that the majority if not all leftists use the word grift to say to insult people they dislike then show like 2 people on twitter of all things to show off how most lefties do that. You are right that these people are using the word incorrectly but are you right to imply all lefties do this? Going on to your vaush points, you just took a bunch of out of context clips and stitched them together to show that vaush is a supposed hypocrite. Im still gonna watch your videos but please talk to a lefty or *Grasp* vaush on these things as I think a lot of points you make fall apart after some critical analysis.
I literally watched all of the debates in their totality to understand the context. I do not believe I took clips out of context.

The problem with Vaush and people like him is that the average viewer can't know what they actually believe beyond their sickening allegiance to marxism.
Why? The goalposts are in constant motion and they change their tune *constantly*. It's not even rare for these people to contradict themselves within the same breath.
Vaush immediately redefining what he just said (as in the "aesthetic" exchange starting at 12:54) after being caught out is a perfect example.
Vaush talks an awful lot about killing people in a matter of fact manner, even though he seems like a coward.

What Dev could be saying is that eventually Vaush will have his worker co-op, and it will be the most destructive, and toxic environment ever conceived of. Then, when people start coming out talking about how awful this place is, much like what happened with Channel Awesome, people will rip it apart, not because they realized they were wrong, but rather that Vaush was wrong.

Socialist ideologies are based on "dialectic", not dialog. When they say "dialectic", they mean you need to divide people into two groups and have them battle it out until one dominates the other. I think it depends on the context in which that statement is applied. If you're talking about some edgy teenage nihilist throwing that around casually like a thoughtless cliche, then you're definitely right - the "it's all just different tribes duking it out, so who really cares, maaaaan," sense. However, I do think there is some truth to it in a fundamental, materialistic sort of way. Humans are hierarchical. and will divide themselves into and against other hierarchies, be they religious, cultural, ideological or what have you. So when people express ideas, they're automatically pitting themselves against other ideas that contradict what they feel should be right. It gives rise to conflict, and conflict is what happens when two or more parties try to exert power over the other(s).

This term, like so many others, is thrown around so loosely that it hardly has any meaning anymore. You'll notice no one ever labels someone a grifter if they agree with the ideas of the supposed grifter. This doesn't really make much sense because whether or not the person in question is a grifter doesn't depend on your agreeing with them. So it's really just a way -- one of many now -- of broadcasting your disagreement with someone while simultaneously calling into question their moral authority. It also seems to function as a tacit acknowledgement by the person making the accusation that the target of the label is more successful than they are.
It does imply a certain arrogant righteousness. Your position is so infallible and obviously correct that no one could ever sincerely oppose it. It's the perfect term for the kind of people who think that anyone who doesn't believe what they believe is willfully evil.
That does make sense, but this is Vaush we're talking about.
Wouldn't it be embarrassing, though, to support someone you know and admit to be in it for personal gain only? Someone who you know will change their tune depending on what benefits them most?
I am a capitalist and even I don't support creators I suspect of being solely interested in their bottom line.
I know this is just a one person anecdote, but I use grifter almost exclusively to refer to people "on my team" that seem disingenuous. Not to start a debate about this, as an example I agree with most of what Blaire White says, but I still don't think she's honest or principled.

I've grown to really like Destiny, even if we are quite different politically, because he's so genuine in his beliefs, and those beliefs are certainly more palatable than the Socialists, he's a rare individual in these sort of circles.

It's exactly the kind of person that you want in these discussions because they take honesty and walking the walk seriously. It's easy to say you believe something. I'm glad you brought up Game Grumps in this topic of grifting. I used to be an avid fan of the Grumps many years ago, but Arin's incredible toxicity and poor play was a huge turnoff, and I eventually grew to hate how they were butchering great games. Later I watched a video called "This Is How You DON'T Play Skyward Sword", which exposes the Grumps as grifters and in general unprincipled, immoral pieces of trash.
I already hated the abysmal gameplay footage of the Grumps' series, but at the 1:16:50 mark the video details how Dan casually doxxed a walkthrough creator, disingenuously apologized for it online, and later blithely dismissed it as "not a big deal".
Other issues include: Arin blowing up at a fan who made a joke at Ross's expense and who later apologized for it (a joke which Arin unapologetically exploited for money earlier in his career) and dismissing her as "some rando on the Internet"; Arin monetizing a video where he "apologized" for not making Ghoul Grumps one year; Arin endorsing deplatforming "problematic individuals"; Arin and Suzy throwing around the N-word in live streams and then later chastising people for doing so while not apologizing for his earlier remarks because they "had that one black friend"; Arin scamming people into giving him free games from which he turned around and sold; Suzy scamming people on Etsy; and I'm sure I'm missing many more.

Aleister Crowley, known as the wickedest man alive and The Great Beast 666, had far more principled moral convictions than Vaush. Totally unfair to compare The Great Beast 666 to Vaush. Crowley clearly expanded on the philosophy of "do what thou wilt" with the foundational principles of Thelema: "'Do what thou wilt' shall be the whole of the law. Love is the law, love under will." Which is a convenient way to say "do whatever you want, but if you want to do something bad then that wasn't your true will." At the very least it does delineate between good and bad actions by claiming that will is love, so to do what thou wilt is to do good, any will to do bad is not true will. Vaush is far more cynical and morally dubious than the most notorious hedonistic drug fiend in modern history.

@@loosemoose5217 Yeah, Crowley is a pretty interesting and often misunderstood guy. I first heard of him a long time ago through Danny Carey, the drummer from Tool. The aesthetics of his drums and stage backgrounds often feature geometrical designs that are part of the sacred geometry of Thelema such as the unicursal hexagram. I mainly thought it was funny to compare Vaush unfavorably to a man known as the wickedest man in the world. It's hilarious but also fair. Vaush is far less principled and moral than Crowley.
Crowley was a scammer and lunatic of the highest order, although that doesn’t necessarily negate what you said about Vaush being worse.

This notion that you must provide an alternative solution with your criticism is totally bogus. It is perfectly valid to show that someone is dead wrong on an issue without offering your own thoughts, opinions, or research. Sure, the utility of the criticism is lower since it burns wrong solutions without offering a "right" one, but cutting off a wrong path at least allows you to stay in place rather than walking off a cliff.

I don't understand how someone can listen to a guy argue about perceived truth when the other person is literally talking about actually true things, and then not see how weasley it is.
We can know that something is true, it's not always up to perspective. If a balloon is floating, we can guess as to why it's floating as much as we want and we can test it as much as we want to figure out exactly why it's floating, but the fact that it's floating is not in contention. There is overwhelming evidence that it's floating (As seen by it floating) and there's some pretty solid evidence that it isn't failing to float (mostly because it's floating). That's an objectively true thing.
If someone says the floating balloon is not floating, they are actually wrong. I don't care how much you already like the guy. If the guy wants to argue that if the balloon is floating or not is up to perspective, and he's not providing any evidence as to why it might not be floating, he's trying to dance his way around something.
The reason somebody like Vaush adopts the "nothing is true" stance, is because it allows them to boil everything down to power games. And if power is the only thing that can exist, then you are justified in doing whatever is necessary to take it, hold it, and use it. That's why, as Vaush helpfully points out multiple times, his philosophy at its purest form is "either i convince you i am correct, or i kill you".

I remember that Hee podcast and it was the first time actually hearing Dave, and as someone who’s had a very similar personal move rightward it’s fairly obvious to me that the dude just didn’t really have his sea legs yet (so to speak) with the arguments he was presenting. And while is a great interviewer, I do think he’s weak debater at best. (It’s more of a skill than I think some people realize- really not just “smartest person win.” If it was, would Vaush be making a living at it?)

I agree that Joe might not be the best judge of character though, simply because his views are so malleable, so changeable. I don't mind that his views do change, it sort of helps the podcast in some ways. He's not always predictable. But it helps to be consistent when assessing people's virtues and flaws.
