I really like it when people other than summoning salt makes world record progression vids. Nice job! A but loud in some sections though
Agreed, and agreed
But SS is bad ass, and pretty much single handedly made Speedrun progressions popular and viable. His editing style is great, and pretty much a stock template for this type of video
@bredstickboy yeah, especially when the person making the video is experienced in the game they’re talking about.
The constructive criticism is rare to see, good on you. Agreed also
@@shannonhill3356 you forgot about Karl Jobst.
I'm not personally a meat boy runner myself, but I love watching those runs from time to time
This video was calculated to be on exactly the 10 year anniversary of the games release! So, if anybody is wondering why some parts seem rushed, that's because they were. Kudos to the meat boy community for being able to finish this video even then, and with amazing quality still!
Awesome info. Loved the idea that there was a paper written about the Larry Fight lol
Someone have the link for that ? I didn't find it
Thank you so much for this video. Apart from SMB being one of my favorite games it's just awesome to see so many people doing videos on the WR history of so many games. You rock.
Super Meat Boy - Oh what a game this was - So cool to actually see my name in a video and that Popoff, oh boy, I will never forget it. I still get the itch to play Meat Boy, maybe one day I'll tackle it again xD - Great video !!
it is very cool to be my own segment in one of these kinds of videos, nice work
Loved the video! Have someone double check the volume levels, but overall good job dude
I remember Vorpal was really frustrated with the 17:43 because it tied Zukoza's best time before his runs were removed from the leaderboard. Zukoza spliced one of his runs (a 17:41 iirc) due to mental pressure to perform (he was considered the best runner at the time) and got banned for doing so. Vorpal was one of the most angry about this iirc. Zukoza felt terrible and wanted to get away from the game and deleted his twitch channel, but eventually came back (once he was unbanned) under the name Zaxsts. He would then stream runs infrequently on his twitch for a few years but never got back into it like he once was
hello jpk 3 1 4
@@CtrlaltdeliciousHD hello how's life
1:28 I like this approach. A lot of people say 'any% should always be the fastest way to beat the game, no exceptions' like in the case of oot, and while that is correct logic, it creates inconsistencies in the record history that are resolved by grandfathering the any% name to whatever category becomes popular.
Well this category isn't any%, but any% no major glitches. Wich basically says no Glitches that absolutely break the game, but other then that, do whatever you want.
Any% (without additions to the name) should allways be reserved for the absolute fastest way.
For Example: Ocarina of Time. Several Categories. After ACE was discovered, this became Any%, since it is the fastest way. But of course, categories split, now there is a defeat Ganon Category, for the old route with wrong warping. And when Wrong Warping was discovered, the old Any% became the no wrong warp category. And so on.... However: All of those Categories do heavily rely on glitches and exploits. And all of them were Any%, until a new, faster (gamebreaking) way was found.
@@sagichdirdochnicht4653 i'm gonna be honest i agree
any% means you complete any percent of the game, no matter how it's done as long as the game data/code isn't modified in any way
the only exception i would make would be for hardware differences, like, say, better computers being able to make load times shorter than less powerful computers, but that's outside the gameplay
any% NMG is almost always a good solution to keeping the "original" speedrun alive while still giving the fastest strats the credit they're due, and you can make subcategories for either Any% or NMG if needed
the first thing that comes to mind that's slightly annoying is elden ring, as this was the first leaderboard i encountered with an "Any%" category (which isn't actually Any%) and an Any% Unrestricted category (which is the actual Any%)
TL;DR "ANY% IS ANY%" insert mr incredible pounding finger on table
no one:
larry: destroying worlds records
@Owen Henke me: on pb pace
larry: 14, take it or leave it.
Larry pause multipletion: n o
Some random dude: almost has a record and does really well
Larry: i am going to ruin your entire career
This video is seriously underrated. You clearly deserve more views.
Omg I watched 75% b4 I looked here. You're right ..
Just thinking about start running this game!
One of the best WR history video I've seem
How did I miss this.
amazing vid dude, congrats.
I always hoped someone would do a wr progression for this game, it being you is a plus
Thanks for taking the time to work on it :)
This video deserves way more views. And you deserve way more subs. Really enjoyed watching it!
This is such a well made video. Makes me want to speedrun this game again
The amount of research in this video is on par with the best videos on the subject, amazing!
Great video! A game I never finished but love to watch speedruns of, and now I understand them much better!
Thank you for putting the music used in the description!
Really well made video, was a good watch!
Incredibly surprised to see that you only have 325 subs, keep up the good work man!
Great video Shred! Can't believe it took me this long to watch it in full, looking forward to similar content
Nice video man! Very good details of the history of this game. Glad to see CtrlAltDelicious wasn't forgotten aha
Joe in 2022:
Time to get my legacy back
This is really awesome ! Good job
Bro this is some good content! Excellent production! Subscribed!
A legendary story, a legendary video and legendary people
I didn’t expect to find something when I searched for this. My god am I glad you made this. Thank you, sir.
Amazing video man I hope you get big
all of these runs are absolutely insane
Never heard of this channel before today, glad i clicked through, great video!
Love it! Could use more parallel universes though. 😛
And respect for acknowledging the importance of the infamous spliced 18:39; it got a lot of people into running Super Meat Boy and speedrunning in general-myself included.
nice video! looks like a fun speedgame to learn
I love the details and the explanation
If you were to do anything like this in the future I would recommend emphasising key ideas throughout such as at 2:50
When the technique is explained, I'd say you keep the tone you were at but when you go on to explain the cycle system/how it is measured change your tone or the music slightly, in order to add a feel of freshness to it as viewers would be learning something and this would engage them more with the learning aspect
Explaining the key ideas and terms throughout the video is very smart as it keeps the viewer interested as they are experiencing new things more often, again keeping them engaged
You did a great job and I'd love to see another one of these :)
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback:)
The video is entertaining and you did a great job editing it. You deserve more subs c:
Ya
Great vid enjoyed it start to finish
Great video man. Looking forward to more from you
I dunno why but i love watching your speedrun videos
This is a great video, thanks a bunch! I'm a casual player of SMB but I didn't even know all this existed! Music was a little bit loud fwiw but the rest was great
Interesting video, but the music is too loud and the voice goes down sometimes. Looking forwards to your next upload!
excellent stuff, shred!
Can't hear you behind the music after the 1st speedrunner :/
Same here, the music is way too loud. But anyway a good video.
I have only seen the intro, but holy shola it is an amazing intro. If this quality keeps up, there is no way this video won't blow up.
it is good!!!
This game, and it’s runners...blows my mind!
this is a really good video :)) nice job!!
Baron's run on 7/22/2020 was INSANE It blew every run from that time out of the water
Good job, dude;)) well done!
Would have loved to hear a Home track, like summoning salt and other wr history progression videos.
Great video over all
So I'm not the only one that still plays/watches super meat boy...
Only game I’ve ever speed run. Haven’t played it in years, but I picked up SMB Forever recently and now I’m here… and now I want to play Super Meat Boy again…
Aside from equalizing your narration audio to have less bass and mixing the music to a lower volume than your voice, your video is nicely edited and the script is well written though I would use not use shorthand such as PB = Personal Best. Good video. *subscribed*
Amazing video!
I love shorter speed run progression videos, sometimes I just don’t have enough time to watch one of those 2 hr long videos.
@@THANHHAITV88 speeddocs and abyssoft are some good ones
Nice Work Dude! Great editing and music. I like your style.
...I was wondering how you would handle *CENSORED* but you did it beautifully =)
That was a Huge Deal when it happened.
Super Meat Boy has one of the best original videogame soumdtracks of all time
Fun video! Some aspects were really good, like the pacing and how the splicing thing was handled. If you make more videos I have a couple tips to make them better!
-Try to find alternatives for repeated words: There were some sections where you would repeat the same word over and over again ("Matte", for example) which kinda took away from the script. Try mixing in improper pronouns if you know them, or use other descriptors like "the finn" or even just "the runner". You can also remove some of them entirely, with an example phrase (not one you said) being "Matte implemented tons of new strats into this run" turning into "Tons of new strats were implemented into this run".
-Read through the lines a few more times: A couple times during the video it sounded like you were rushing to the end of a line, or breathed in an awkward spot, or paused a little bit longer than natural. Your vocal delivery will improve overtime, but these issues can really snowball if you're not careful.
-Decide when you want the runs to speak for themselves, vs when you want to speak for them. Letting us see bits and pieces of a run is very good, but sometimes it'll seem like you're leading up to some form of runner reaction just to tell us the final time before they finish anyways. It's fine to let the run play out, and the pauses did help with pacing, but you can use the end of a run as this kind of pacebreaker just as well as footage of the runner playing.
Overall I liked this video and hope you make more. Please don't take this criticism the wrong way, it all comes from a place of good intent and I hope it came across as such. Good luck!
I always appreciate constructive feedback like this, thank you very much :)
@@shredberg This was great critique and I agree with it. For examples of some great ways to represent the clips, I personally think Karl Jobst is the best out there. You might be able to use some of those techniques. But of course, you'd want to be careful that you still keep things in your own style.
I hope you'll make a follow-up on the other categories as this was very interesting to watch.
@@DirtyPoul tbh just saying "look at this persons stuff" is easier said than done. Learning has to be done by doing. But always keeping it in mind :)
@@shredberg Oh yeah for sure. It doesn't work that way. But maybe it can serve for some inspiration. I've given you a sub in hopes of more videos like this. Seeing the improvements over the years in speedrunning categories is awesome, so thank you very much for the great video :)
Sick video!
Super Mario Bros has hands. Super Meat Boy has Larry.
Very well done video, keep it up :)
Partway through, I just stopped to imagine Dr.F just seeing Meat Boy reach him and a supersonic pace. Just absolutely rushing at him at an insane pace in an intimidating and focused way, making Dr.F crap his pants.
Needless to say, I hope someone makes an animation like that.
Fun Fact: This is the same guy who got an over 50 cycle larry
Awesome Video!
Hope you are still running the game. You can get the wr Shred. You are so close. Get the job done
Cant wait to see them do the newest meat boy
Great video! I love super meat boy.
Great video underrated
DUDE ! best Intro ever
Awesome! Subbed
NICE. Always hunting for vids like this
I remember beating super meat boy in around 22 minutes on pc using the keyboard, I had been playing super meat boy actually for a year before that
Awesome! Super Meat Boy is one of my favorite platformers of all time. 🤓
Good job man 🤘
Very interesting speedrun history even if I never played the game. If I can say only one thing I will edit better the audio between clips because in some the music was way to higher compared to your voice and was difficult to understand what you were saying 👌🏻
very nice and interesting video! Keep up the good work
Great video thanks!
meet larry, the destroyer of runs
Very interesting video!
Will you make more videos similar to this one?
really good video!!!
funf cat: those werent mistakes those were speedruun strats back then
Fuckin nice doc, yo!! Looking forward to seeing more content from you 💯💯💯
ne no doct-
Couldn't watch all of it but enjoyed what I did watch. Felt you were fanboying a bit at the start though, ha. And maybe I've just heard the SMB tracks too many times by now, but I would have preferred mixing up the music choices a little.
Very good Video!
Very cool subbed for hopefully more
18:53 Did he do it? did he finally do it dude, with the bonk, in.... I dont know for sure, but He finally did it
why does this video have less views than ItsMaximum's Red Ball World Record Progression? lol this vid is incredibly well made
I used to have Super Meat Boy on the Xbox 360 and made it on the top 2,000
Great video, i feel like you shouldve turned down the music volume at some points tho
And then there’s me, who is trying to figure out how speedrunners can wall jump so fast in some levels
I'd really like to see a WR progression video for 106%.
great vid
this was pretty neat
will you do 106% category for super meat boy next
this was in my reccomended
Didn't we all find this in our recommended
nice one dude. lets hit that decino algorithm!
Hell yeah flash meat boy
amazing
Minor Correction, the PS4/Vita Hell Dark World Theme is called HELL Toupee, not Meat Toupee.
Which is a punne, or play on words
@@nomukun1138 As are ALL the song names, not sure your point though.
wow, I learned about super meat boy was from a speedrun commentary years ago, and now I'm learning that the run was spliced =(
Great video. Just a bit of advice,
Re upload this video after reopening the edit and re adjusting the volumes a bit.
If you did that you would get alot more views,
And also keep it up. You are good at this.
(I would leave the original video up. But just put reedit or audio fix edit in the title)
Great great vid, you have a talent here
Unfortunately I would have to redo it entirely. I reformatred my computer a couple weeks ago and when I backed up my files it turns out I had my Premiere files somewhere else so those are all gone now. It would be a relatively easy fix otherwise. But now I'd have to redo the entire video. Maybe one day.
I appreciate it though. :)
I feel the music is a bit loud comparative to voice over volume. Great video!
NICE
Great video. Just one tip, lower the BG music and increase the voice audio. Good job either way brother
underrated
