I know I'm embarrassingly late here, but wanted to thank you for putting together such a fantastic video on the Marihour Challenge, and for inspiring so many others to give it a try (and also for completely omitting my embarrassing second Bowser fight in sm64 haha). I had never really expected people to start up and maintain a leaderboard for this challenge since the ruleset was kind of a nightmare and there would be a big balancing act to make the challenge more accessible without making it too easy. I'm happy to see it worked out so well with so many others taking it on and lots of people conquering the challenge. I'm excited to see how low it can be taken, best of luck with 53:XX!
Incredible job on this video! Seriously, I'm blown away by the quality. I'm grateful for all the good memories we got to share over the last 2 years on the challenge. I'm looking forward to more Marihour!! The future looks promising!
I'm waiting for someone to make a new rival to the Marihour Challenge or 2 & then for PixelPerfect to win that & become the record holder for a fused challenge that contains rest breaks where the timer stops between the different Multigame Challenges. Can't wait to see what gets done on March 10th 2022 to see the new challenge. I'm proposing a speedrun of 64ds, NSMB, NSMB Wii, & NSMB2 (New Super Marihour), as well as a speedrun of 3D World & Odyssey all be done in the same day insanity I know. I expect PixelPerfect to someday bring his skills as the Ultimate Mario Speedrunner to insane new heights!
Apparently I'm joining the "finally actually watching the whole video way too late" club. Anyway, amazing work on the video. Loved the editing and storytelling, and I'm glad the video seems to be getting a lot more attention recently. It definitely deserves it. Also I'll add that I will definitely go for Marihour, hopefully sometime soon. I also feel I may want to pursue it further than just completing the challenge. We'll see ...
kind of crazy seeing myself in darbians chat during these runs 5 years later. great video! would've assumed this was a big channel based on the quality
ik this is like a year old but tysm for talking about this category I dont like how short most of the 2d mario speedgames are but the famicom category seems really fun and I might start running it
Here I am, familiar with Summoning Salt videos about speedrunning but just bumming around youtube on a weekend and I find myself this person who I had never heard of making a speedrun video for sometjing I had never heard of before. Perfect Combo. I'm just happily watching while bobbing my head to the awesome video game jams in the background absolutely hooked on the storyline of the video. Amazing work
Watching these types of videos always makes me want to attempt the speedruns featured, but damn I don't have the patience to learn one game let alone six
You have some fantastic music choices my dude. Also as someone who used to work at a pizza place, a pineapple pizza at 9 pm doesnt faze us. We see weirder pizzas at later hours than that, trust me.
Out of curiosity, I looked up some TASes and added their times together... the final result (ignoring fractions of seconds, because I wasn't sure how those worked) was 42 minutes and 5 seconds. So considering the whole "need to switch" rule, and the fact that these TASes are often not able to be matched by humans even on their best days, I'd be highly surprised if the 45 minute barrier was ever breached, and even the 50 minute barrier may not be humanly doable (after all, I have no clue just how much time those TASes save).
The thing about a TAS is that a non-human-viable strategy is only one shot of desperation away from becoming humanly viable. If it ever gets down to the wire, the TAS-only strategies will come out. These guys are a different breed of determined.
I'd never heard of Marihour before. Amazing video, well edited, great music, great commentary, etc. Very cool to see the entire journey/history of this specific Speedrun Category.
I'm glad that 0 star got mentioned by the end of the video, since I was wondering why I didn't see anyone get the 0 star SBLJ. I'm not a sm64 runner by any means, so I didn't really know if it was more difficult / incurred any risks to attempt.
this is immaculate big guy. super impressed by both the hard (and smart) work you invested into bringing this challenge to its fullest potential, and also the quality editing on this video. you truly are a man of many hats.
I've recently started watching a lot of Mario speedruns and world record history videos. I could never get to those levels if I tried. Definitely don't have the patience for it. Mad respect to you and all the other speedrunners and record holders out there.
Amazing editing (incl. sound editing which many fail, making the speech hard to hear when there is music) and song choices. This, on top of an interesting topic well-presented. It certainly deserves more views.
Assuming TOP gameplay, you could get: SMB: 5:00 SMB2J: 8:00 SMB2U: 8:30 SMB3: 11:00 SMW: 10:00 SM64 0 star: 7:30 That's 50 minutes without switching games, so VERY unlikely that will happen, but sub 52 is very reasonable (imo).
Yeah with current knowledge, a sub 50 in Marihour would possible be the greatest speedrun *ever*. sub 52 is a Tier 1 run but I could see someone like Komsic pulling it off.
"All Five Warpless" caught us off-guard, because we only ever had the version of Super Mario All-Stars with 4 games, not 5. (Super Mario World was only added in a later rerelease)
Seriously amazing video, i cant believe im only finding it now?? I can genuinely feel all the passion you have lmao. Great stuff, really 👍 and excellent music choices
This is such a cool run! Two questions: Has anybody started a seperate category for doing them in free style order? Are there any rules against playing two games at the same time?
Congrats on all the efforts to your hard work and all the other runners as well. It’s cool to see the holder of a WR so enthusiastic and positive about new runners. I’m sure that’s more common than negative people trying to get it for themselves, but it makes me happy for those involved and glad this community is going strong and positive.
Lil summoning salt, upcoming and already established legend here in this video. Taking notes from the commentator god himself with the catchy ass music and emotional peaks, you are such and amazing creator and your skills are underrated. I look forward to so much more for you my friend. Keep it up 👍🏻
Wow, this video is amazing! I loved every minute of it, and I’m glad I was able to follow you on your journey for marihour WR and sub 56! Also I can’t stop laughing at 1:15:25 😅

I really enjoyed this video, you've got some very good enthusiasm and energy for the Marihour and it's history, and it really comes through in the video.
I find it fascinating, that not only the Super Marihour exists; which sounds like an amazing personal challenge. But the main goal of the Marihour is to beat all the games in under an hour; but the video explaining it's history is almost an hour and a half. That's kind of magnificent.
Super well edited and put together video, really puts into perspective the amount of time and dedication players put into completing great runs like these!
Now we need Marihour 2: How many mario games can you complete in 1 hour. This kinda run would allow for any% strats to get much faster times in smb3 and smw which would allow for other short mario games to maybe be doable in under an hour in conjunction with all the others... I have no clue which speedgames in the mario franchise are fastest but I bet that 7 or maybe even 8 games would be possible with that ruleset in under an hour It would also be an interesting change in ruleset to allow multiple games to be played simultaneously... while a runner would have great difficulty splitting their focus into multiple games, waiting for cutscenes provides opportunity to start on a different game while the cutscene is going on... it would be challenging to be under constant stress like that for an hour, but it's certainly an idea... This is a really neat challenge... I love runs where there's more than one objective... the strategy becomes so interesting and it's enjoyable to see games played from a new angle. Great video!

Only 2 countries have completed the challenge in under an hour, 6 Americans and 2 Canadians that's insane, 1 person from Germany came within less than 3 minutes away.
I'm proud of you for the sub-55 you managed, but I think the most impressive thing is getting the sub-hour live. Great work dude, you're an excellent showman, and while it's obviously not replicable in a lot of cases I like how the through-line of your own running experience really distinguishes this from the more impersonal documentary style of SummoningSalt.
