@@bengopalmi80 Hey thanks very much for the kind words! I haven't produced much content, though I'm looking to change that soon, so watch out for that!
I just found this video on my home page, and I just realized that you were a streamer I watched play Fall Guys a ton in 2021 :O This vid is fire, happy to see you're still around and kickin'!
This video pretty great. I really appreciate your discussion on the psychological techniques behind how you overcame the obstacles to get the platinum. I've definitely experienced the inevitability threshold with tricky bosses in FromSoft games. The dynamic between confidence and skills is a really fascinating way to look at the way people engage with difficult challenges (in life and also in games)
Hey thanks so much for the kind words! I definitely agree that there's a lot of similarities in the way folks overcome challenges in life and games, and I feel like the more folks put their own unique spins out there, the better odds we have of other folks finding an approach that works for them!
Amazing video! I hope you continue to keep making videos. The quality of editing was really good I’m usually very picky about what sort of content I watch and rarely steer away to new channels but this was such a good video! ❤
Damn man, this is a great video. Gotta say you deserve a lot more attention for this editing and commentary, not to mention the grind itself. As someone who has just started doing UA-cam daily as much as possible, I’m definitely taking notes from this video!
awesome video, I did this platinum back in high school and it's been a running joke in one of my friend groups that I simply have the trophy. There are definitely harder challenges out there but it was honestly a lot of fun like you said. Keep up the good work 👍
I got 100% of this game on Steam, A+ in every level and every glitch level too. I've done this for my old X360 copy too My tally is 13000 in PC amd 46000 in X360. For the X360 I forgot how I actually did it, but for PC I divided each world into sections of two or three at most to play as most levels without backing out as possible. Some I did do from 1-20, but similarly to the style of this video. I really like it, it's the approach I use for N too. When it comes to the "tight controls", they are really, really tight. The movement feels fluid and Meat Boy has inertia, hence why he doesn't lose any momentum at all when stopping and input. Going back causes the slide because of friction for 3 extra frames, you gotta hold longer. Other inertia based platformers like the N franchise also don't stop momentum on a dime. For those you wanna play Will You Snail?, Celeste and Hollow Knight.
This is really similar to the insight that helped me chill out with rally games - don't reset, just keep going if you can. Finish, don't worry about placement, just focus on consistency and how to reduce the number of wipeouts. I had been pretty good at it already, but it helped me enjoy the process more, and I found I climbed the leaderboards in longer rallies as faster, riskier strats made people crash out. Similar with runs of Pistol Whip I've been doing, I learned to finish runs even when they sucked, and then start again, rather than resetting early. It's an autoscroller rhythm style where each level is a song, and it feels especially soul-crushing to reset something like that because the time you lost is absolutely fixed. Doing complete levels every time makes it more fun and gets you to a level of competence in every part of the level much faster.
Totally agree! I used to do speedrunning, and I detested having to reset runs, I ended up just spamming full runs of the game, that's probably where my tendency to not break up Meat Boy worlds came from! Messing around on map screens or character select screens, dying on the same level 5 times in a row, that stuff got to me way more than choking, and I had some heartbreakers during this plat, haha
@@thesparkcity Gotta maintain the love of the game. Also the platinum is awesome. I'm actually more impressed at the way you worked smarter than I am with raw twitch skills or perseverance.

@@thesparkcity Hello again, just did it! I started to play other games after unlocking a couple more achievements, but recently I came back and was able to do the last couple! Again, thanks for the advice!
i watched this video when it was new, and it still didn't motivate me to go for this at the time. lately i've been seeing even more new videos of people getting this platinum and decided to finally go for it! i know it's kind of like "baby's first steps" into the world of hard platinums, but for me it's the first time i've attempted something this difficult. i love pretty much all of edmund mcmillen's games and i've finished most of them, this and the end is nigh are the most difficult, with the latter being much, much more difficult than this. on PS it's not as bad, but since i'm playing on steam, there's extra achievements for doing every cartridge deathless AND doing the ENTIRE GAME deathless. that one may truly be my limit, but i want to at least finish SMB. after that, i'll play through TEiN and see how i get along with it, then decide if going for all achievements is worth it. either way, enough about my life story XD i'm glad i came back to this video because it's genuinely a huge motivation to go for this completion, and even for other difficult ones in the future! and not only that, but you gave genuinely good life advice here, what a masterpiece of a video!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Idk if I'd say it's baby first really hard platinum, it's definitely still a stiff challenge! My point in making this vid was that you shouldn't put too much stock into how other folks view difficulty of a game. Like I said towards the end, a lot of people don't try this game because they hear about how hard it is and get scared off, whereas if they tried it themselves they might come to a completely different conclusion! Just keep pushing yourself and you'll be shocked at how far you can develop your skills!
@@thesparkcity thank you! yeah i've already done 4 no death runs in a day, and while they were the easiest ones, that's still much faster progress than i was expecting! i'm sure it's gonna slow down soon, but i'm ready and i'm determined to conquer this challenge!
Another thing that I feel makes the difficulty much more manageable is the fact that you can exit to map in a tight spot or when you miss a key etc., and also use different characters prior to Cotton Alley. I'm going for all the achievements on Steam atm, except with Meat Boy only and without using exit to map, but seems like most people definitely take use of both. Like, not using them feels like the actual 10/10 that its listed as, cuz its definitely harder, I remember NickAR saying in his vid that not using exit to map would 'be like an 11/10' lmao which is kinda funny. Obviously Cotton Alley is still the hardest world and it's only Bandage Girl so ye. Prior to that tho a lot of levels can be trivialized with the other characters. It is indeed funny tho that people put it up as this really really impossible plat when there's multiple things in use that make it more feasible. Being forced to do it 1-20 would also make it hellish lol. Obviously still an extremely hard challenge, but could be harder considering what's allowed.
Yeah, I think that's the major weakness of the 1-10 scale, it doesn't really tell you much about WHY the game is difficult. I do think that no quitting to map makes things trickier, but given that you have to play the hardest worlds with only bandage girl, a meat boy-only run wouldn't add as much difficulty as it seems. It would definitely take more attempts, but even the levels that get trivialized with other characters aren't usually *that* insane, we just gravitate towards the easiest options
That's exactly how I got the platinums too; I'd just play the levels in order until I got it I also agree that people who got the platinum don't rate it as that difficult; I was just casually replaying the levels once and I pulled off a 1 to 20 deathless meat boy only hell dark world run
@@thesparkcity Game soundtracks are generally ok to use, it's songs published by artists that you have to be careful of. If an artist releases a song in a game separately, it's most likely copyrighted, but if it is just listed as a part of the OST, you should be ok to use it.

Oh yeah, the straight up wall jump is such a tilter! It's pretty nutty that the controls can't be rebound, even something like Oblivion from 2006 had fully rebindable controls haha
I remember that when I first played this game I thought the controls were superb. Nowadays, I've tried going for the deathless achievements on and off and the awkward momentum and bugs are one of the main things keeping me from wanting to grind it harder. I'm glad Edmund got it right later with The End is Nigh though, maybe the same thing will happen again but I'm confident that those controls will always hold up.

Interesting to hear you share the same sentiment that I do regarding level order. In my impossible boy run, I ended up doing 19-20 and then 1-18. Overall, really great video. I'd never thought that I would even get close to obtaining this platinum, but the "inevitability threshold" really exists! So many thoughts and feelings that I am unable to articulate are explained in great detail here.
It’s just too many hours of grinding for me and I don’t have the patience for it. I did everything else except these deathless runs and that’s enough for me. That’s my platinum. Same thing for Hollow Knight. I did everything except the Pantheon. That’s enough for me.
Yeah fair enough, it's all personal preference at the end of the day. With Hollow Knight I didn't like to game enough to put the hours in to get good enough for pantheon 5, so I used the invincibility glitch. With Meat Boy, I was stubborn enough to just yolo it
Congrats! I myself have gotten every trophy except light & dark rapture + cotton alley deathless. I always said to myself that I'd get back at it and I'd just take a little break... I've taken a 4 month break now and have platted a couple other games. I honestly don't know if I'll ever commit it like I used to with missile boy and the dark hell trophy... How many hours did it take you for the platinum btw?
Its unique, I like the idea of your character being useless. Not like RPGs where 'lv 1s' are still skilled in their role. You feel like youve actually grown through the playthrough.
@@iThinkMyNamesBenH Agreed! I liked that it did the Deus Ex thing where there were actually multiple solutions to *most* problems, and some of the things the game takes into account (character hygiene) are super cool! But for whatever reason, it didn't grab me like I hoped it would
Well im actually wondering if I should attempt it now. I only have 2 platinum, (almost 3, as I need only one achievement for saint row IV and its the 40h, so im just.. waiting) but, I did do geometry dash on steam, and im wondering if it can be comparable too?
You should give it a try! Worst case scenario, you earn some trophies from the game and can always come back to it later! I wouldn't worry too much about how many platinums you have, it might make some difference those plats have given you more experience with precision platformers, but even then, i hadn't played a precision platformer in years before I fired up Super Meat Boy. Give it a go!
the platinum on console is much simpler. on steam you gotta get all characters, get 100 bandages, and beat kids xmas world from super meat world in one sitting. all that adds up to make it AWFUL on steam, but mostly its because of the kids xmas stuff which is miserable. gg on doing all the worlds hitless btw i cant imagine doing cotton alley dark world hitless
other than the xmas chapter, the trophies are all the same on console, minus the glitch worlds, but the glitch worlds and the xmas chapters aren't too bad, even in one sitting
I've been playing platformers for years, I think death count is a poor marker of skill anyway, I only brought it up to show how meaningless it is (in comparison to something like 22k haha)
It's frustrating more than unfair. Just takes a stupid amount of practice. I've got everything except five of the deathless trophies and tbh I can't be bothered putting in the grind for them. I have about fifty other games in my backlog to get to.
Wow 60 hours and under 10k deaths is really impressive! 🎉 You are for sure a top tier gamer ❤ That guy with the 100 hours of pain and misery is just trash 😂
LOL I mean, I don't think anyone who struggles with the game is trash (I certainly had my fair share), I just wanted to point out that folks shouldn't see those comments and get scared away from a game!
I've thought about doing "Super Meat Boy" myself a bunch of times. I usually play more niche games so something like it would be great for gaining some recognition but I always arrive at the same issue. I'm just not interested in playing the game at all in general. I've managed to put myself through some difficult and time-consuming platinums before...but they were always games I wanted to play first and foremost. And ultimately, that's the reason why I manage to push through so many of them. Cause beneath all the trouble and frustration, I was still doing something I enjoyed. It was the kind of realization I needed. So really, I am glad for everyone who manages to finish this, even if it's not quite as difficult as people hold it up to be. It's something I just can't see myself doing since I'm not interested.
I'm the same way! I played Enter the Gungeon for an hour, and even though it's estimated at a much shorter time and easier difficulty, it would still have taken too long for since I didn't enjoy the core gameplay at all. I've always enjoyed platformers, so that helped with Meat Boy, but the challenge itself and the satisfaction of overcoming it became a decent substitute for the enjoyment of the game, at least for as long as I played Meat Boy. But I'll likely never go back and play it again, now that I've done the plat, haha
I’m not even trying the platinum. 1 I would have to buy on PlayStation (I own it on Xbox one) and 2 the Xbox 100% has no deathrun trophies which I am so glad about. Still gonna 100% on Xbox tho
@@thesparkcity also just to let you know that video was very high quality. UA-cam’s algorithm is doing you dirty. I hope your channel succeeds and have a great day
@@DonkeyDunk Thanks for the kind words! It did ok for a while, and then I put out another video and the algorithm killed both that one and this one...good ol' youtube
I'm currently trying to get the platinum. I already have 25k deaths and im only in hell dark world... how can you say its not the biggest nightmare?? And how you only died 9k times. I played videogames since i was 6 almost every single day, now im 23. AM I THAT BAD?
Nah I don't think so! If we're talking gaming experience, I've gamed for around 28 years, haha. But I also have played a lot of precision platformers and platformers in general, so maybe that's part of it? But either way, I don't think death count is a good indicator of skill, I mainly posted it to compare to someone else's 22k deaths to say that the big numbers shouldn't scared them off. Don't worry about the deaths, keep pushing! You'll break through eventually! It's only a matter of time
@@thesparkcity No not really. I nearly have the platinum. But you can across as this game is very easy to platinum which could make people struggling think it’s easy as fuck and put them in the wrong mindset. If they start thinking ‘I deserve this because it’s easy’ that could really fuck them over. Also, i understand everyone has their own ways but you can’t just preach your way of doing it and expect it to work for everyone. You put down other content creators videos acting like they’re lying about the difficulty of the platinum. This video can very easily hurt someone’s mentality and can only help with 0.0001% of people. That’s just a few of my points, I hope you understand. I’m not trying to shit talk you or start drama.

Overall, really great video. I'd never thought that I would even get close to obtaining this platinum, but the "inevitability threshold" really exists! So many thoughts and feelings that I am unable to articulate are explained in great detail here.
That's awesome! I knew I couldn't be the only one to be trying this kind of method, so I wanted to make a vid to show folks that it's a viable one!
@@thesparkcity I also used the method without even knowing it wasn't popular :)
Keep going! Very good content!
Thank you so much!
It’s just too many hours of grinding for me and I don’t have the patience for it. I did everything else except these deathless runs and that’s enough for me. That’s my platinum.
Same thing for Hollow Knight. I did everything except the Pantheon. That’s enough for me.
Patheon can be glitched, look it up😅 thats how many "trophy hunters" do it.
@@ecchi12 You have my attention
It took me about 60 hours! 20 of that being Cotton Alley though, I'm sure someone with better reflexes could do it quicker
Congrats on the plat
Thank you!
Let him cook🗣️🔥

you should try the spiritual successor made by the same guy, the end is nigh! i genuinely don't think you could do it :)
Don't plan on going for that any time soon!
This video inspired me to do super meat boys platinum
Ayyy good stuff gamer! Lemme know how it goes!
I have done super meat boy plat on steam, and damn the last part of level 19 was thougt
Of Cotton Alley Dark? I didn't struggle too much with it, but it definitely is a scary section
@@thesparkcity yes the part with the last short jump
@@TQ76. Yeah it's a spooky one for sure!
Kingdom come deliverance is a masterpiece the disrespect shall not be taken 😭
More like mustard piece, got em
Its unique, I like the idea of your character being useless. Not like RPGs where 'lv 1s' are still skilled in their role. You feel like youve actually grown through the playthrough.
Still, masterpiece? God no 😂
@@iThinkMyNamesBenH Agreed!
@@thesparkcity alright! Thats the confidence I needed! Its on sale now too! Ill try my best ! Thank you!!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO@@Ohhfrostyyy
And thank you for the video as well ! It deserve a lot more attention
@@Ohhfrostyyy Well thanks very much for the kind words! Definitely want to make more of these, so stay tuned! :D
I would like to to watch you played celeste, it would be fun
I've actually done Celeste's platinum already, and 100% on steam too!
Max Payne 3 was my hardest platnuim , you have to
Beat the whole game on hard mode without dying
Sounds pretty rough!
the platinum on console is much simpler. on steam you gotta get all characters, get 100 bandages, and beat kids xmas world from super meat world in one sitting. all that adds up to make it AWFUL on steam, but mostly its because of the kids xmas stuff which is miserable. gg on doing all the worlds hitless btw i cant imagine doing cotton alley dark world hitless
other than the xmas chapter, the trophies are all the same on console, minus the glitch worlds, but the glitch worlds and the xmas chapters aren't too bad, even in one sitting
Best UA-cam channel on all of UA-cam - god tier!
Good job on that.
Thanks very much!
9k deaths is crazy, I played on Xbox so only had until the golden god trophy. Took my 13k
I've been playing platformers for years, I think death count is a poor marker of skill anyway, I only brought it up to show how meaningless it is (in comparison to something like 22k haha)
@@thesparkcitydamn. I bet you also have the wr Speedrun in celeste or something xD
@@rayfer. LOL absolutely not! I did plat Celeste but I'm not much of a speedrunner these days
Probably should stick to lode runner
Daryl stop bullying me
WOW
It's frustrating more than unfair. Just takes a stupid amount of practice. I've got everything except five of the deathless trophies and tbh I can't be bothered putting in the grind for them. I have about fifty other games in my backlog to get to.
Yeah there's definitely easier games out there
I found another very good channel :)
Well thanks for watching! :D
You should try the enter the gungeon platinum
I've played the game, I didn't find it that fun
That’s heartbreaking 😭😭😭
Sorry gamer!@@Orangotangs
I wish i had nerves like you..👍
I was shaking in my boots at the end there, plenty of chokes up to that point haha!
Took me 2 days to get squirrel boy...gulp
Keep pushing!

Nice video.
Thank you!
I’m not even trying the platinum. 1 I would have to buy on PlayStation (I own it on Xbox one) and 2 the Xbox 100% has no deathrun trophies which I am so glad about. Still gonna 100% on Xbox tho
Hey, you can always come back to it later if you want
@@thesparkcity also just to let you know that video was very high quality. UA-cam’s algorithm is doing you dirty. I hope your channel succeeds and have a great day
@@DonkeyDunk Thanks for the kind words! It did ok for a while, and then I put out another video and the algorithm killed both that one and this one...good ol' youtube
The End is Nigh? :O
More like the End is Nah!
But for real, i think the only other Edmund Mcmillan game I'd go for is Binding of Isaac
@@thesparkcity It's only a matter of time 😜
Anyways great vid!
@@ThatGuyUSAThanks very much! :D
It's only a matter of time
What is Platinum in this context? What does that mean
It means all achievements in the base game, not including DLC or expansions. It just Sony's way of making its system different from Steam and Xbox
not bad dude
thanks
great, now do the smbf one.

@@thesparkcity Sorry. None of this advice is any good. Could we maybe talk about it?
@@light772sandwich Sounds like a pretty severe case of "mad cuz bad itis"
@@thesparkcity The super meat boy platinum takes skill yes but it also takes putting yourself in the right mentality
