I'm surprised no writer ever came up with the most obvious and most interesting origin story for Stilt-Man; a person whom loses his legs and builds (or commissions) a suit with bionic legs.
That would be mixing apples and oranges. Stilt-Man's design is inherently over-the-top, putting a layer of real down-to-earth trauma underneath that is kind of in poor taste. His legs would turn from a weird standout gimmick into a desperate coping mechanism and that would make his character all sorts of uncomfortable.

"Hated by all fans" is a really strong term. I think he's more beloved by most fans than anything in a jokey, "he's too cute to be threatening" sort of way. I think the Marvel Universe would be poorer without him in it.
marvel has hundreds of joke villains actually, they rarely try to redo them so turning them into joke is a default, you dont need a hundred condiment kings nor fake treat them as some big villain equivalent like some dofor the sake of contrarianism.
Thank you rogues for spotlighting Stilt-Man, I do agree that there's nothing silly about someone becoming as tall as a skyscraper. I think Stilt-Man is one of the most underrated Daredevil foes and Frank Miller did hint that a more darker and fascinating Stilt-Man is possible ins his story!
People hate on Stiltman, but forget that the best villains challenge specific aspects of the hero. Stiltman is a specific challenge for Daredevil’s acrobatic abilities.
It's weird. The tech used by stilt man has alot of potential for everyday use in construction, repair, and transport. Yet the only man who has the tech uses it for petty crimes...
Believe it or not I actually like the character of Stilt Man for what he is and feel he's an important part of Daredevil lore, even if his gimmick is a bit outmoded by modern standards and wonderfully Silver Age! Still I get where you're coming from Rogues, and think these are all great picks! I/we can always count on you to highlight obscure mid-20th century stories/characters! Never change!
"Daredevil's most hated nemesis" ...is it bad then that he's one of my favorites? Like the Frank Miller story is my favorite lighthearted Daredevil story, I like it more than pretty much all of Mark Waid's run. Plus like Rogues said, the original Stan Lee/Wally Wood comic is actually really decent! Among the best of the early DD stories. People say Stilt-Man is so lame, but in all honesty his stories really don't reflect that. Wilbur has more good comics than Mr. Freeze imo, so in that sense he's doing pretty well for himself.
I was just about to say, I am a huge Stilt-Man fan Haha! He's really goofy, but I can't deny his charm. Also, he is one of very few villains that actually learn from his battles and adds defensive measures to his armor like, electric current to shock Daredevil when he touches him, or a special chemical coating that dissolves Spider-Man's webs on contact etc.
To me Stilt Man can work as a threatening foe, just change the name, add extendable arms, he can shrink his legs down, he can be a pretty interesting robo looking mercenary.
I can't believe Chris Claremont took this guy seriously. Meanwhile, back at DC we got writers making fun of old Eddie Nigma. This guy shows that you can have a nice balance between goofiness and threat level. Wish Dr. Light was still around, but noooooo, they needed to write Identity Crisis...
Stilt Man is a very cool villain, I know he might be a joke, but I still like his design with stilts to make him tall. I didn't even now this guy was an enemy of Daredevil, since he already has some villains in his rogues gallery like Kingpin, Bullseye and Jester. I really liked the stories of Stilt Man you chose, I got to say my favorite one is the 2nd story "High and Mighty" it's a cool story for a D list character, and it has good taste of artwork. I wish there was more to this Stilt Man person rather of him being insane like other villains like Gorilla Grodd, but I still like the character, like I said the second story I like potrays the character good. That 5 issue Black Goliath run was pretty sweet. He literally lost in every comic until the last one, which also introduced an alien race that appeared in literally no other comics but managed to get referenced in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie
Did you know Stilt-Man’s costume appeared in a background scene on the Netflix Daredevil show. Anyway. How about talking about villains that appear in other superhero comics. Like Flash villain Weather Wizard fighting Batman in a Batman story, or Riddler battling Elongated Man in a Elongated Man story. Hammerhead fighting the FF. There are plenty of stories like that.

Your right I wasn't expecting this. Stiltman can be a pretty solid C list character. There are really only two flaws. Day is a man who always came up short, but now that he can tower over everything is on a power trip. O.k. villian motivation, but not much to work with. The more serious is the joke aspect. Not writing him as a joke threat is easy. He has power armor. The trouble is he uses most of it to get really tall. Obvious question. Why not just boot jets. Or trade being able to only get 200 feet tall for more superstrength? True he does have secondary weapons. But lets face it. No one is looking at that cover and noticing the gun in his hand.
When I think of Stilt-Man, I think of Iron Man #225, where Tony Stark, walking tall in his Silver Centurion armor, takes Wilbur out in two short pages. I need to read these comics to raise my estimations of this pillar of the Silver Age!
Could the next video be about the frogman from Spider-Man? He started out as a villain then when his son took over he tried making it as a hero. It was the first overweight hero I had seen in comics ( aside from the overweight asgardian god and kingpin... yes I know Kingpin is not a hero but in my eyes he was 😂)

In fact, on the topic of Stilt-Man, he was used in Chip Zdarsky's Daredevil run in a pretty cool way, as recently as 2023. Day was one of the villains Matt recruited to rehabilitate on a private island and help him fight the Hand. It was one of the most interesting parts of the whole run, even if it only lasted a few issues.

I don't think I'll ever understand why everyone treats Stilt-Man like a joke. He has an absolutely unique gimmick and power set, a classic look, and has proved himself to be a genuinely formidable foe under the right circumstances. Sure, maybe he has a bit of a silly name, but 'Doctor Doom' and 'Green Goblin' are also a little silly, and no one ever has a problem with THEM.
Having long legs is a joke by nature, its only "serious" to someone who doesnt grasp reality, its the whole reason hes a joke villain, its worse than KiteMan at being a threat, even the most try hard poser who just wants to be contrarian would get that you cant write any story about a leg stretching tief without it being a joke. Comparing them to just the 'name" of a mythical creature and the concept of "doom" is straigh up bad faith, you can like the joke character without trying to hard to be quirky

I never understood why Still-man is considered a pathetic villain. Yeah, his gimmick is kind of ridiculous but not as ridiculous as other villains, even within the Daredevil rogues gallery. Personally I think the Matador is more embarrassing, he looks like a villain from Adam West's Batman series but without tricks or weapons based on his theme, the only joke about him is throwing a cape. Maybe he seems ridiculous because now his armor looks obsolete but at that time there weren't many armored villains and few at the level of Iron Man.
Its one of the most ridiculous gimmicks by far, much worse than a kiteman. Some kid can push you over, its just long legs, its less useful than having nothing, other than the meme crowd who fake defends silly characters to fit in without reading the comics, its the whole reason why its a joke, imagine thinking its the armor, your grasp of reality needs to be quite done for, because even a joke hero gallery doesnt have a power that useless.

Its one of the most ridiculous gimmicks by far, much worse than a kiteman. Some kid can push you over, its just long legs, its less useful than having nothing, other than the meme crowd who fake defends silly characters to fit in without reading the comics, its the whole reason why its a joke, imagine thinking its the armor, your grasp of reality needs to be quite done for, because even a joke hero gallery doesnt have a power that useless.
