I have found that at least 50% of decent hotels will let you park under the sallyport at the front entrance if you ask. Which is normally covered by CCTV and lit up the best. Also cover your bike with a locked cover, out of sight out of mind. Get a no name cover NOT a harley branded cover.
For your key fobs, you can get a Faraday pouch, That can fit in your pocket that makes it impossible for thieves to copy it because it’s shielded. You can also get boxes to store key fobs in at home.
Park in front of the front entrance/lobby. Front disk brake lock. Full cover with a cable lock securing the cover. Anything can be stolen, but the uncovered, unlocked bikes, will be targeted before yours. A thief has mess with your cover, and see what you have, and that extra time and risk is a deterant.
Situational awareness is a must at all times. 23 years in the Marines Corps and all I can say is "Chance favors the prepared Mind". If you made your mind up to steal it, you'll own the end result, hope you have a will. Be safe out there
I've always planned my trips where I stay in campgrounds with showers and tent camping and occasionally cabins. They are generally off the beaten path and have some type of security. Camping is not for everyone but it works for me. It also generally eliminates the possibility of lice and bed bugs as a hotel may look clean... but that's not always the case.
Excellent video, thank you very much! Along with disc lock i am looking into a camera i can put in the window facing my bike , Amazon has a good selection. The last tbing i want to do is confront 3 people strong enough to pick up a 700 pounnd fat alone in the middle of the night.
For me. I Carry. If I can’t carry somewhere I don’t go there. I never thought of a motel. I did stay at a holiday express once & couldn’t see my bike. I to want to see my bike st Restaurant. If we go out to eat where I can’t see it. I’ll get up & check it a couple times. I also bought a caliper lock. & I’m thinking about a air tag or another GPS device
Yeah, it is always nice when you can just glance over and see it! I have air tags on everything, even my dogs collar has an air tag! lol Nothing wrong with being cautious!!! Thank you for sharing and for commenting! 😎 MB
I personally have a GPS tracker hidden on the bike, I also stashed a air tag hidden also, and I have a brake disc lock on it, I carry on me always, and if the place don’t look good, I don’t stay there, also my room has to face the parking lot so I can park the bike in front and see it from the room, also sometimes I will park the bike on the walkway in from of my room,
My buddy and I ride choppers and we pull them into the ground level rooms that Kevin mentioned. Some motels actually suggested we do so. Duane's got it right with keeping your bike in sight at restaurants. Besides that, we try to bring anything we can think of to prevent us having to leave the bike on the side of the road in case of breakdowns. I know this isn't helpful for everyone, but the general rules apply to all of us riders
Good question: There are a few reasons, right off the top: 1. The thief does not know that. 2. Being right outside the door makes the thief more vulnerable/visible than if the bike was parked in a lot with only other cars and bikes around, this by itself is a deterrent. 3. Sometimes people are not looking to steal....they just think it is ok to touch, sit, fiddle with someone's bike. 4. Usually that area is better lit, which is another deterrent. I am sure there are more that I am not thinking of right now. KP
That's exactly what I do. I also get the floor level motel room so I can park my bike near the door. When I hear the disc brake alarm begin squeeling, I'm come out packing 15rds of lead.
1. Stay in a different hotel 2. Park under a light, outside your room, or in front of lobby entrance 3. Have alarm armed There are probably other things that could be done also. KP

Definitely true about tings looking clean, but not always being clean. Thank you for sharing the added advice and for commenting! 😎 MB

I certainly wouldn't be the person confronting anyone! 😂 Thank you for commenting! MB

The new tracker are now real small and work great , I’m going to add one on my bike.
Having some sort of tracker will definitely be useful if someone takes your bike. Thank you for commenting! 👍 MB
Look for lights and cameras on the area you intend to park. I always empty the saddle bags and tour pak and still lock it.
Good tips! Thanks for the add.

Yes, having a necessary tool bag to wrench on the bike if need be is a useful tip. Thank you for sharing and for commenting! 😎 MB

I just stayed at super 8, parked my bike outside my 1st floor room window. Locked, alarm, cable lock on wheel. Nice that several other bikers there.
That is the way to do it! Thank you for commenting! 👍 MB
I always lock everything , have the security alarm and always completely cover my bike on all trips, for that added "inconvenience"
The more you can inconvenience a thief the better. Thank you for commenting! 😎 MB
Its a damned shame that this is the world we live in now!!
There have always been threats and reasons to pay attention, but I do believe it has only gotten worse with the years. Thank you for commenting! 😎MB
A good cover that is locked. Out of sight out of mind.

I have a cable lock from Germany company from wheel to wheel and frame . Plus I try to not stay by any intersection roadways .
Awesome! Sounds like you are already taking necessary precautions. Thank you for sharing and for commenting! 😎 MB
Never ever stay at a Motel 6 unless you want a hookup or buy drugs, I made that mistake last year.
Noted! Thank you for sharing and for commenting! MB
If you’re not going to confront a thief then what’s the point of trying to get a room where you can park the bike right in front of the door?
Good question: There are a few reasons, right off the top:

2. Being right outside the door makes the thief more vulnerable/visible than if the bike was parked in a lot with only other cars and bikes around, this by itself is a deterrent.

had a friend at a hotel and his pipes were stolen. not sure how you could prevent that.
Wow!!!!
Wow!!!
1. Stay in a different hotel
2. Park under a light, outside your room, or in front of lobby entrance
3. Have alarm armed
There are probably other things that could be done also.

Very good advice. The 2nd Amendment is your friend, use it.
