I do love the jumper. Such an old pattern, a 'go to' book. The person who suggested that crochet was boring wasn't just passing a remark but giving advice and that's what got to us! Friends rallied and all is calm again! We certainly had a laugh which is always a good thing. Tobermory the tortoise was certainly fun too.

How lovely to see how happy it made Mum when you spoke about being cross with Dad for letting Mum go into hospital without him, her face was a picture. I remember the rose hip syrup and the orange juice bottles which my Mum put teats on for our ‘baby dolls’. Thanks roller girls such good fun you three. The pea soupers must have been dreadful for everyone. I heard that it was due to the government pushing the public to light fires (using coal) to keep warm because it was after the war and things were getting better and money wasn’t so hard to come by, but how true that is I’m not sure. Thanks for your recipe Pete, your videos are so informative Pene I love them and as you can see I’m slowing getting through them. 😊

Episode 34 - well done! My mum loved dad so much just talking about him lit her up, thanks for bringing that memory back and well just noticing. How lovely having those bottles for your baby dolls. I wonder how safe those teats were for real babies! Through our chats mum told me that coal was hard to come by but it was the only form of heating at the time. After the 1952 tragedy the government encouraged different forms of heating and gave grants and smokeless coal was introduced. I think it was a weather front that made this lethal mix. I watched this episode (34) before but enjoyed it so much again. I especially love your mother's part. I can only imagine how much you miss her. The crocheted hats are a hoot! I crochet but do not knit. The Bolognese looked so yummy. How lovely to have a chef of your own. I enjoyed the story about the firefly. You are right that we need to continue to study nature as it has much to teach us. I'll remember to watch past episodes because I can see that even though I think I paid attention I did miss some parts here and there. Stay well!

I taught myself to crochet in lockdown also, I found it very relaxing whilst recovering from my broken ankle.

Hi Pene, I’ve just come across your podcasts by accident really and found them really enjoyable. I was born in 1953 and when you and your mum reminisce it brings back memories of my own childhood. I definitely can remember the delicious orange juice my mum used to get from the baby clinic ( my sister was born in 1955) and rose hip syrup.Xx

I really enjoyed you and your mum's chat. Since I was born in 57, I remember my mom had a wringer washing machine in our garage for awhile. I was probably 6 or 7 then. I love the crocheted hats with curlers. So funny! 🤣 I've been crocheting on my 2020 temperature blanket while enjoying this episode! I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish it this winter or not. Loved the film at the end. The bird tapping the ground like raindrops to get the worms to come up!! 😂 How clever!! I tell you, when God created all of these animals, what a fabulous imagination He has!! 💞💞💞. Oh! And that tortoise eating lettuce! I'm going to have to show that to my 2 granddaughters I babysit.

You're right, the gull did make us laugh and we watched for quite a while. It's something we see all the time in our own garden and take for granted but our friends hadn't seen it before and that prompted me to film it. Toby is gorgeous and they take such good care of him.

@@penelopeschinwag I also meant to tell you that our little ShihTsu's name is Tobi. Lol 😅 We didn't name him since we got him from a shelter last summer. He already had that name and we liked it. He's 3 now. 🥰

It is interesting to hear your mom's stories. Ten days in the hospital does sound like an eternity!
I am in the market for a new frying pan. Sure wish I could find one that come a with a chef!😉
Crochet is fun! I think most hand work has an element of fun, but some folks don't have the imagination for it. Lol. of course the folks saying crochet is boring probably think math is fun🤓. We all have our strengths, left brain, right brain. I crocheted a Viking helmet for one nephew and a Transformer helmet for another. It took some thinking as I wasn't using a pattern, but it was a fun project.
Ok, the seagulls doing a rain dance! That was hilarious and yet fascinating.

I was 10 days in hospital myself with baby and it does seem like an eternity. I think the whole experience wasn't too great for mum. I wish I could loan the frying pan out but sadly he's chained to the cooker. The helmets sound wonderful. Seagulls dancing - just par for the course round here!

Oh I love those hats and the fun you had with them! My husband has made quotes from The Carpet Shop. We really enjoyed it - please tell Heather. Not just that, but all her poems. Maybe she can do one about the crochet incident with her boring friend who doesn't know better?
