Anderssen took 3 pawns and lost his queen, both rooks, light sq. bishop and 2 pawns yet he wins by checkmate. The ultimate position over material example.
And then Lionel Kieseritzky crushed him in next games he played in 1851 with king's gambit Lionel gave the new variation of king's gambit and he has mastered every variation of it Adolf was nowhere close to it but surprisingly Lionel lost this one so badly

These are my favorite games. Most chess is reactionary to immediate threats. These type of games are focused on winning. The king is always the goal in chess, something easily overlooked.
@@danielfreer8487 The problem is: in the immortal game, the opponent simply played stupidly and got punished. If they had even considered the possibility that Andersen might not be sacrificing all his pieces for nothing, they would've won easily.

+relja cabarkapa Thank you. It is quite a game, definitely :) I love showing it to people who haven't seen it. I remember how amazed I was when I first saw it

i feel that i need to comment on this game.. i'm now 61 years old. i got really interested in chess about 12 years ago, before my Dad passed away.. But why do i need to comment?.. because this is the ONLY Chess game i have ever seen, in which i could picture something happening on the board, that blew my ,mind.. it was the two knights. and when that single pawn was placed in between them, i could swear it looked like he was closing a door or gate!.. the most beautiful single move in chess, next to the check mate of Paul Morphys greatest game.
After watching this game years ago and watching so many games and even playing many good games myself, I came back to watch this again and the game starts with King's Gambit...!!! That's the very moment I felt that An Immortal Game can't get any better than this ♥️😍🙌🏼 Absolute beauty.
I know the rules of chess, but I'm not a knowledgeable player in terms of any strategy. I just recently stumbled upon your channel and it has given me new appreciation for the game. Thanks so much for sharing ! Blade Runner brought me here - Sebastian Vs Dr. Eldon Tyrell scene - unforgettable as it’s the greatest film and science fiction film ever made will never be bested !!!
I found Qf6 in a few seconds (of course finding that move isn't the impressive part; seeing this position so many moves ahead is). What's silly is in Blade Runner when they use this game, Tyrell calls this move ridiculous, even though after it's played it's plainly obvious you're getting mated next move. And he's supposed to be a genius.
I learnt this game so I could beat my older brother, he was 'good' enough to beat the adults and teachers - I was happy for him, until he said, 'you'll never beat me'. me 14yr him 19 : This Andersen game I found in a library book - realised I can lose material (even Queens and Rooks) and win. And the rest is history: beating him over and over. That was in the late 80s early 90s - Thanks for doing this video, what sweet memories.....
The immortal game on June 21st, 1851 is probably my favorite game ever, this shows how Anderssen took 3 pawns & lost his queen, both rooks, light sq. bishop & 2 pawns but he still was able to manage to win by checkmate. With the two knights & 1 black sq. bishop he was down 21 points, but could still give checkmate with his weak material. This 170 year old immortal game just will never get old, no matter what the moves which were played back than!
I love watching Anderssen's games. It's not often you can describe a chess master as playing with panache, but that's Anderssen. He didn't just want to win, he wanted to win in the most dramatic and entertaining way possible.
One of the best games in chess history. Of course, there are different variations that can be tried, but, real chess is played in the board, and it is a testament of Anderssen genius' and risky style to play this game and finishing it in such an elegant mate with three minor pieces.
Really this game is simply awesome and how creative our ancestors were ,, really modern chess seems very boring and engines suck because all players following the engines move and forgetting their creativeness ,,# thanks agadmator for this game ❤️ from india
The same for me, kept playing the king's gambit a long time, expecting a kind a miracle like this game to happen. But had better results with the Blackmar-Diemer. Romantic for ever! Would love you to present a game of the last romantic: Rudolf Spielmann.
Great video. However, a minor point. I believe Kasparov had to play the black side of this game (with the b5 counter gambit) not against Shirov but against Nigel Short on the sidelines of the 1993 PCA World Chess Championship.
Lionel Kieseritzky (1806-1853) died penniless at a charity hospital for the insane in Paris. He was only 47. He was buried in a pauper’s grave. Only one person came to his funeral, a waiter at the Café de la Régence. :(

Sacrificing the most powerful pieces in the game for a checkmate, when do you even see that?
Mortals: You cannot win a match down 10+ points of material.
Anderssen: Hold my rooks.
Anderssen: take my queen
There is not such a thing in chess as a point of material. The only winning law is that checkmate ends the game.

Anderssen was like "Look, lowly peasant! I don't even need a queen to mate you!"
or a bishop and both rooks!
you want a rook? Here, take anotha!
why do the last 3 words sound so wrong LOL
i know this is a joke but he very much did need the queen to deliver mate. nobody else could've forced the knight away from defending e7!
Down two rooks, a bishop and the queen.
Not a problem.
Well, he was never down a queen, really. Black was forced to capture the queen and it was checkmate on the next move. But yes, an excellent game.
