I have a 2018 GTR and have owned it for nearly 3 years, really love it, great in every way apart from the battery. Had the same problems as you, replaced the battery (with high quality one) but if I don't drive it for more than two weeks in the winter it's flat. Have no way of trickle charging so bought a solar powered charger from the AA (£25) that connects to the ODP port, problem solved. Recommend you get one.

I have a GTR and it’s the best thing I have ever owned, I bought it with 2,697 miles on it from redline and when I took it to litchfeild for a service they said that it’s been remapped and has 640hp... I knew it felt faster than a standard one. It has no exhaust mods or anything like that and it is a switchable map. There’s a switch under the steering wheel adjustment lever. It’s a monster.

I owned a 2009 GTR for 5.5years... I had exactly the same opinion as you... There's nothing that is a more complete and capable package... Especially for that money. I've just swapped for a 2010 manual v10 spyder and it feels like a step back when it should be a step forward. Brilliant car in its own right but the GTR just tops everything for the money... That's why it took me over 5 years to get rid... Couldn't find anything I wanted to replace it with!

Four GTR's owned from new over ten years, main dealer maintained, never had a battery problem and they often stood for 6 weeks outside in all weathers unused..........Turn off the exhaust, close the valve switch under the dash.....On motorway press the furthest away of the three switches down, used to be the snow button, makes it a relaxing drive in that situation..............Yes mirror a problem and left arm rest has aways been to far back.
Overall a great car,i have experience zero problems in 10 years of ownership, never felt the need to modify the cars because i thought it would ruin the experience,as it is a great car, cross country fast as anything.

I also looked at one almost 2 years ago. I actually got a 2020 AWD Stinger GT--it is 90% of the GTR at less then 1/3 the price. I have had my stinger almost one year exactly and have been to the track only once--where it is the only place you can even use these types of cars.I can hit triple digit speeds getting on the HWY near me at about 2/3 down the ramp at maybe 60% throttle already in my Stinger. Do not get me wrong--the car is world class--but for 99% of the time it is overkill.

The battery thing is weird. I had a 2008 and now a 2017 and my battery lasted years. I drive it every weekend but sometimes I am overseas for a month and it still starts up well. If you wanna modify, just add a midpipe and you'll he happy. My 2008 was FBO and although it was fun it kinda ruined the drivability because turners won't spent hundreds of hours to fine tune it down low. Slap a midpipe on it for more sound and it's perfect.

Agree totally. Have had my 2010 for 6 years now, bone stock still and zero desire to modify. The thrill has never worn off and it is unbelievably dependable!

Worth getting an early model like a 2010-2012 as it’s cheaper? Or try and save for a newer model?

@@bigredzebra6220 I definitely am still in love with my gun metallic 2010, but I think it depends on how long you think you would keep it. If you think you would keep it long-term, maybe opt for a little bit newer one. If your plan is only to keep it for a couple years and then get something else, a 2010 to 2012 would give you as much fun as you could ever ask for. Personally, I plan on keeping mine long term!

Here in the states, they're holding value extremely well, I would have to go back to the beginning years of the GTR, to even get one around $50K(US) or so. I'm still sad that they didn't offer a manual. That's why I have a 350Z & a 370Z, obviously, both manual😁 Thanks for the review, I still have this car in my list of potential collection.

Prices were very nice pre-covid and you could find excellent example 2009-2012 for sometimes $40,000'ish depending on the seller. Now those prices have increased so much that only those affluent enough to afford one can have one. They are now out of reach for anyone middle class or slightly on the higher end of middle class. I could buy one BUT the payment would destroy my paychecks and I couldn't eat.

@@stlwrx I'm in the same boat. I, actually, would rather have an R8 for this price range & that would get me the mid-engine & a manual, that I would prefer...but, their prices have done the same...ridiculous!!!

I am sure , you are right about the 7th gear. I have a Qashqai J11 manual, which is a joke in power compared to the GTR, but I am missing the 7th gear also for better consumption and during driving I feel I need to switch gear but I realize it is already in 6th.

I see where you’re coming from. I bought my first gtr 09 model 7 years ago and couldn’t part with it as there was nothing else like it. I paid 38k for it and after 7 years sold it for 30k having clocked up 40000 miles in it. When it came to replace it I just bought another a 2019 as for the money nothing really comes close. If you’re going to modify it, get a stage 4 without downpipes 640bhp. Really transforms the car in a good way.

I absolutely agree with the battery, and im glad you pointed it out as i havent seen anyone else complain about it. I pulled into a costa after being on the motorway for over 2 hours and sat with the music on for half an hour and the thing was dead! Switched to Optoma Yellow Top in the end, but the general size is just too small for such an engine. I wouldnt swap the GTR for anything, but the starting never sounds healthy in the cold because this silly battery.

I recommended buying a Antigravity battery. Solved my problems, worth the 800$ price tag. Has built in jump start features, double the cold cranking amps, Lithium ion battery, Weighs 8.5 lbs, and electronically disconnects itself to prevent battery drain.

  • @tc-bladeofgrass6719

You probably didn't kill the battery.
Same think happened in mine in the first lockdown, my mate who's a mechanic said to get a charger which also reconditioned. If it's totally flat a full reconditioning and charge can take 48 hours, but now my battery is tip top.
I fitted a quick release on the neg terminal, so it's only a 2 Min job to disconnect the battery if you know it's gonna sit for a few days.
    Little tip for ya
