- Wow, 20 years ago today marks the premiere of the Powerpuff Girls on Cartoon Network. That's just crazy to me, that it's been that long already. I may not have caught the show when it first premiered (earliest memories I have of it took place around the summer of '99), but it's been almost 20 years since I started watching it too. I can't name many shows that have been around for that long and never gotten old for me; Dexter's Lab is like the only one and that show kinda goes hand in hand with this one in a lot of ways haha.
But yes, here it is, a video that I knew I'd make ever since 2016. I always had a feeling that something like this would be how I introduced the original series on my channel (since this is the FIRST TIME I've made a video on it), and I'm really glad to finally have it out. It just wouldn't be right of me not to do something in celebration of the anniversary, so I decided that making a video compiling a lot of the important history behind the show would be the greatest way to do it. Of course, I couldn't fit everything in lol, but I think I covered the most important topics. Hope you guys enjoy it, this took a lot of effort for me to pull off.

I dont hate the reboot its just not ppg...its very medicore..at least its not offensive...and the characters are still funny and similar to how they always were....just wish they had the old writing staff and voices... the art and animation dont annoy me its the writing that does its so basic bland and boring sometimes...

The 2016 reboot is just mediocre. Nothing awful, just disappointing. It pales in comparison to Teen Titans Go and especially Total DramaRama.
British Media Bully except Total Dramarama is the best out of these three. Not the best cartoon in modern cartoon, but really good.

This is honestly one of the best videos I've ever seen done on the Powerpuff Girls, I've loved that series since childhood and its easily in my top 10 favorite animated shows of all time. Phenomenal work man!

im almost 28 & its still my favorite cn show & always will be. my brother & i r twins & i got the whole series box set 4 our birthday last year! i shouldve bought it when it came out back in 2009! blossoms always been my favorite girl. she was my favorite character when i was little but now professor is. hes such a kick-ass dad & theyre damn lucky 2 have one like him. i just hope craig gets somebody as awesome as tom kane 2 play him & him again in the reboot. i didnt know he played him too when i was little & could never tell if him was a guy either cuz of his voice. i hope tom recovers from his stroke too :( ive been praying 4 him, just did last night & will again 2night. i know hes probably never gonna voice act again but i hope he makes it & recovers. get well soon tom aka professor & him :(
What's so sad is that the current Powerpuffs cartoon has become the very stereotype people thought the original was...disgraceful
And disgraceful for not contacting Tara, E.G., or Cathy, who knows what good the future will hold for Cartoon Network.

This video was uploaded on November 18th. The PowerPuff Girls premiered on November 18th 1998. This video also has music from Sonic Unleashed which was released on November 18th 2008. Very clever.

professor is great but come on...the best character easily in fiction is mo jo jo jo...thats not even close...just what a character he was.....in every sense of the word...like I enjoyed dr. drakken and plankton when they were goofy but mo jo is just as interesting being evil ..those other 2 aren't...I kinda hate them when their evil....when mo jo is evil I love him just as much as when hes jokey...if not more so...I root for him
mommy fearest is one of the only few episodes where he pisses me off. why the hell would he believe some bitch he just met a couple days earlier over his own daughters? he knows them better than anybody else, how good they r & theyd never disrespect anybody but he realizes she lied 2 him & has them call the cops on her. hopefully he apologized after that too & prolly did. he owed them a huge damn one. i first saw knock it off in may on boomerang & its soooo sad that he says theyre his family when he tells dick not 2 hurt them :’( it makes me really sad that he tells them he loves them when the knockoffs take him away too :(

I really like this video. I was still a newborn when powerpuff girls came out but I was obsessed with the powerpuff girls when I got older, my parents bought all the vhs's, toys, backpacks, pretty much all the merch you could think of. My parents loved the show as much as I did, my dad would always watch it with me whenever he came back from base/iraq(i swear he liked it more than me) me and my little sister watched it when she got older and my mom always had a good time watching it with me. The show still holds up to this day and I still love watching it now, even more than I did then
My favorite was bubbles growing up, my sister liked buttercup and my parents liked bubbles
This is an incredible video - its been a while since I've been in a PPG mood but its still amazing to me how well this show holds up after all these years.

This was a very endearing watch. Powerpuff Girls is a far greater show than I likely recognized when I was younger, and I'm happy to rediscover it like this. Also, I can't believe I never caught that "Alpha male" bit. How did they get away with that? XD
I've seen PPG Z in its entirety ten years ago. It was alright. A fairly generic Magical Girls show, but it wasn't without its charm. I'm not sure I could watch through the entire thing again, but it was worth the one watch.

she was my cousin’s favorite too. blossoms always been mine & always will be. she was my favorite character too when i was a kid but now professor is. hes such a kick-ass dad. hes a bad one in a couple episodes but realizes it & fixes everything. im gonna miss tom kane playing him & him in craigs reboot. it sucks that he had a stroke & had 2 retire :( i didnt know he played him too when i was a kid & could never tell if him was a guy either cuz of his voice. i can imitate it. id show tom if i met him but i guess i never will now :( ive been praying 4 him, just did last night & will again 2night. i know hes probably never gonna voice act again un4tunately but i hope he recovers. get well soon tom aka professor, him & darwin :( thanks 4 being one of the best damn voices of my childhood. im gonna miss it :(
Great Video Shadow Streak. There's a lot to be said about this show and how it shaped Cartoon Network into the network that it is. One of my all time favorite episodes would have to be "Mime for a Change" because of the music, the characters and the animation.

did the haters of that ep miss when the females all line up to tell the girls: did she look out for me when (fill in tragedy here)...shes a hypocrite...every faction has manipulators trying to rig the system to help themselves and step over others...she may have some legitimacy to a grander narrative about female justice and equality but she also still is using that as a shield..shes not really down for the cause....the episode isn't about hating on equality its about hating on feminazis...big difference....duh..a child can see that....

Just because has "Girl" in the title doesnt mean its "girly" show. Powerpuff girls is one my favorite shows when i was girl. I found it so unique because how many shows starts 3 cute girls kicking badass monsters and freaks. This before I watch sailor moon or another magical girl anime.
Yes, tell me about it. I"M a boy and I've watched Powerpuff Girls, Sailor Moon, Daria, Teenage Robot and many, MANY more movies, anime and television shows with great female protagonists and antagonists for YEARS. My list could go on. The creator(s) and crew just need to know HOW to exploit the imaginative possibilities. That's how they stand out.
Shows really should stop being gendered... It stops people from watching really good ones :(

If anybody is gonna tell me _Powerpuff Girls_ is a girls show, I'll tell them to watch any episode of the series and tell me what was girly about it.
I still remember watching powerpuff girls in my room as a kid and having SO MANY TOYS! I wish I still had some of them but all well. I at least have 2 toys of Blossom now, she was always my favorite. Funny you mention the fight between Blossom and Princess cause I LOVE THAT FIGHT! As well as Blossom's speech at the end,showed how awesome Blossom could be. Hard to believe it's been 20 years but, 20 years and still going strong YOU GO GIRLS!
I thought Femm Fetale episode was very populair and praised
i can see where some may misrepresent it and hate on it but the reality is its not about hating feminism or equality its about hating on feminazis ...I can see where people get confused there cause they represent the feminism as a villain character but shes also using it as a shield and is clearly lying manipulating and abusing her power for personal gain so shes not a good person obviously so you may agree with her point but shes still the bad person and you never abuse power to get even with past wrong doings you should truely stand for equality not biased reparations and double standards
@@razkable It's ironic that the writers made an episode against double standards, yet had multiple standards on how the main characters are treated in their respective episodes.
So many memorable moments of this show. Holy crap, 20 years. Feels like yesterday when Bubbles was screaming for Buttercup to squish that cockroach. Or how about the time Fuzzy turned one of Bubbles' pigtails into meat and she literally flew into a rage. Buttercup refusing a bath. Blossom gaining ice breath. The girls trying to help a monster find his kitty (major cat lover here). A cat that was controlling the professor. Mojo's plot to turn everyone into dogs, twice. The sandman who just wanted some sleep for a change. The boogeyman. That freaking zombie magician. The entire city falling ill thanks to the Ameoba Boys. The mime sapping all color and Bubbles desperately trying to get it back with crayons. The girls refusing veggies. Bubbles getting glasses. The body swap episode. There's just so many to list. Everything is slowly coming back. It really is difficult to top this series.
I really like this show. I personally think seasons 1-4 are my favorites.
I think this is why u like this show. It's a classic phenomenal cartoon.
From timeless villains like Mojo Jojo, to Fuzzy Lumpkin and even the devil HIMself. Whenever people talk about the show, i see it as CN's SpongeBob SquarePants.
My personal favorite character is Blossom. She is a perfect example of a good leader. She has one of the most bad ass moments out of all the girls. Mojo was always my favorite because he was such a villain, yet so comical. I love his personal catchphrase, "Curses!!!!"
Overall I think I speak for all of us whem this review is amazingly good. Thank you Shadow, for making this review.
Also 6:10-6:23 has got to be the best one. She's still got Bubbles voice right which is amazing! Happy 20th anniversary, Powerpuff Girls!

This is my favorite cartoon of ALL-TIME! Everything about it just screams awesomeness! I know other people think its a girly show, but it's more than that. I love it just as much as I love Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk and others! It's that good!

Well said, dude! I too, don't know where I'd be without Powerpuff Girls- mainly the 1998 series- and neither does America and the world. It also inspires me to be more proactive and to be a better person too though my father thinks it's nonsense. It's gotten not only you and me but everyone else through so many tough obstacles, it's one big unforgettable masterpiece I can't tell you how grateful we are to have such a show like this. My mother thinks I'm too old of Powerpuff Girls but no one's too old for this masterpiece in animation history that is the Powerpuff Girls 1998 series. I think we should also give the 2016 Powerpuff Girls reboot a little respect too. Out of all my obsessions with cartoons and anime such as Arthur, Dragon Tales, and other Cartoon Network shows like Dexter's Labortory, Ed Edd 'n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Codename Kids Next Door, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Juniper Lee, Camp Lazlo, the Ben 10 original continuity, Adventure Time, Regular Show and Steven Universe, and sometimes, Disney XD shows such as Gravity falls and Star vs. The forces of Evil, and anime shows such as Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon (original anime), the Pokemon Anime, Digimon: Digital Monsters Anime, and Yu-Gi-Oh! and Beyblade anime, even Demashita Powerpuff Girls Z, and of course the best adult oriented cartoon "King of the Hill", The Powerpuff Girls stands out as the greatest shows in cartoon history, Happy 20th anniversary, and here's to 20 more years!
It's a good show, but America not the world necessarily *needed* this cartoon to exist.
The Powerpuff Girls isn't the greatest cartoon. I'd say that The Ren and Stimpy Show is the greatest.
Powerpuff Girls is one of the greatest cartoons of all time. It is one of the shows that inspired me to be a cartoonist. It is hilarious and as humor for kids and adults. I always loved to draw but I didn't know what I wanted to grow up to do until I watched shows like Powerpuff Girls and Gumball. Thanks Craig McCracken I am forever grateful.
I remember seeing the PPG Movie in theaters, I went with my grandma and we were the only people in the theater.

Looking back on the show; I look at Classic PPG like I do with Nick's show, The Loud House.
While both aren't perfect or without flaw, it feels like the good episodes they have FAAAR outweigh the bad. In PPG; for every episode like Dance Pantsed or Custody Battle, there were episodes like Members Only, Twisted Sister or others.
In the Loud House's case; for every Brawl in the Family, Green House or No Such Luck. There were gems like Pulp Friction, L is for Love, For Bros who Want To Rock, Back in Black and countless others.
So, while both shows aren't flawless; the good stuff far outweighs the bad
PPGZ is only enjoyable because of him, he isnt as scary as always has been but he stays true to manipulating the lesser minded people and as a huge presence.
I quite enjoy it, I prefer the emphasis on Spice of Life scenes, but I wish they'd kept the Girls' personalities closer to the originals.

I did like the reimagining of (most of) the characters and to be an alternative version (which does not try to supplant the original) I find it interesting.

This means, No Teenage Robot, No MLP:FIM, No Equestria Girls, No DC Superhero Girls(2019), No Foster's Home, No Flapjack, No Kid Cosmic, No Adventure Time, No Steven Universe, No Regular Show, No Gravity Falls, No Wander Over Yonder , No Odd Squad, No Sesame Workshop's Helpsters ( Which both shows are created by Tim McKeon, who also worked on as a writer on Adventure Time), No Ok Ko, No Clarence, No Craig of the Creek, No Victor and Valentino, No Over the Garden Wall, no Bee and Puppycat, No Summer Camp Island, No Owl House, and No Amphibia.
Thank you so much for this video. Always wanted to see more video essays about PPG and here you are, with an amazing one. PPG was one of my favorite shows in Cartoon Network, if not my favorite show from the said network. Being a young girl like our 3 beloved girls and just, being a child in general back then, it was a huge (and still is) part of my life and like you, it has a special place in my heart up until now as well. 🥺

Glad you finally get to review the classic enough. The way you did was alot better of how the reboot handle It and could've been so happy for myself! I still own both the VHS and DVD version of the movie and still own that copy of the complete boxst of all seasons to this very day!🎉😎🐶

Haa a breath of fresh air. This show holds such a special place in my heart. My brothers and I would watch it on long car trips, and we would argue which if us was which girl when we were younger. I was always my fav Blossom. Thank you for making this video. Such a cool special.

This was an absolute treasure to watch, Shadow. I got so nostalgic that I actually binged the entirety of the PPG after I finished the video. I love how you're able to put so much passion into such a video and I absolutely adore this so much?? Like I loved the Powerpuff Girls so much growing up (to the point where I was super into the fandom) and I still do love it, so finding someone who loves it just as much makes me so happy. I'm inclined to say you've got a lifelong subscriber. Keep up the astounding work, you beautiful being. I'll be here to watch it all.

The attention to detail and sneaky references impress me. The music, the episodes, the action, there is just SO MUCH to take in and love about it. There's a lot to live up to when it comes to the Powerpuff Girls, and it makes me really nervous, but excited to see what can come of my cartoon after its incredible legacy.

If Craig allowed the original series to go on, Powerpuff Girls could have been to Cartoon Network what Spongebob is to Nickelodeon, the main stay flag ship show with endless possibilities for content and merchandise. But he chose to end the show somewhat gracefully, gotta respect that.

Yes I am. You got the hot and talented Tara Strong in the video. Powerpuff girls is my favorite Cartoon show on Cartoon Network. This show along with Courage is why I stuck around for CN as a kid. Which is why I watched KND, Cow and Chicken etc.

Very well done video. The main thing you do well is some brief history to the show, allude to the documentary on the boxset... and then focus on the show itself. You give enough history to go by, but not too much, allowing the focus to be on where it should - a multi-layered cartoon capable of telling varying kinds of stories, which gave it lots of flexibility. Other then perhaps me expecting a little more personal history then you perhaps have, this is a fantastic video, working both for those only vaguely familiar with the show and the die hard s mostly watching it. Well done, Shadow! This video could go far for you.
Did I mention Powerpuff Girls is in my top 4 favourite animations? Well, it is. Despite not discovering it proper till 2009. So to me, it’s just a great show and movie, little of the merchandising phenomenon that surrounded it for a few years.

Beautifully written and edited video! I was 8 when the series premiered and was a faithful viewer pretty much from the beginning- I even remember the What-A-Cartoon shorts! Along with Sailor Moon and Princess Leia, the girls were my heroes. I still have my plush dolls and my Heroes and Villaons CD, and I rewatched the series on Hulu last year and loved (almost) every second of it. Happy birthday, girls. You truly are one in a million.
I would love to meet EG Daily at some point in my life. Not just Buttercup, but Hinoka from Fire Emblem and Tommy from Rugrats.

@PinkBomberPPG Yeah, it was the first show I ever loved ^_^ I had a bunch of the toys and VHS tapes xD I binged it the whole way through a few years back to see if it still holds up to an adult (it DEFINITELY does!), but I haven't really watched it since. I'm tempted to binge it again ^_^

You did a great job on this tribute. While I wouldn't say "Powerpuff Girls" is one of my favorite CN shows, I still have a lot of appreciation for it; from the fast-paced action and witty humor to the awesome villains and lovable heroes. Plus, I really admire its art direction and how dynamic it looks, especially when compared to its modern incarnation (which is just bland and garish).
Oh yeah, and those old commercials really take me back to the classic CN days.
