    Well done! As a bonus Dubia Roaches like the dark they also like lot's of hiding spots. You can have a lot of Dubia Roaches. But if the temperature and humidity are low. No can't procreate your most invertebrates species! He speaks the truth! Excellent information for the new breeders. Well done, Mate! You are strong 💪. I don't mist my Roaches! I have over 60 bins don't want a pet problem! It's not fun!

    I have mine in a large sized clear container and spray painted it with flat black paint (exterior only).
    Also I rubbed down the inside with high grit sandpaper for traction, but left the sides alone.
    I also use a heating blanket for a dog connected to a reptile thermostat.
    I don’t put water inside and feed them oranges, apples, carrots, lettuce, and bananas every 2 days.
    I shred the Apples and carrots and throw that on the top of the egg crates. Cut the oranges in sections.
    And they are doing great!

    My Dubias have had an explosion of babies, and I've many adults now. I'm in need of some middle sized Dubias, so I will have a look at the suggested link you put on here. I know they are doing good, and have been giving them rabbit food already, before you suggested it. So I know I've been doing good. Cool video mate.

    Hi , first of all I’m learning loads from your channel, keep up the good work, ok my question is when using a heat mat, how and where do you fit the sensor probe for stat, drill a hole through the side or roof and seal it ?? Couldn’t find it in your video’s unless I missed it lol, starter colony coming this week..

    I have a really nice mealworm colony going. Im getting a decent superworm colony started . I've finally talked my husband into letting me breed roaches. It took a year to wear him down. But I kept every receipt for the last year and showed him we spend annually on feeders alone. We also have a nearby town and the closest access to any feeders is an hour away. Im going to make myself a side gig. Im going to have people sign up for a weekly subscription and I will deliver them. I'm hoping this works well. I've bought 100 roaches. I've had 13 people who said they would pay the extra money to have them delivered once a week or twice a month. And they also buy feeders for their friends. Fingers crossed. I think it might be a lucrative little side hustle.

    Loving your vids, recently got a leopard gecko as a rescue and doing good on mealworms but looking for more variety in the diet. Can you make a mini colony just just like 2 females and a male to feed just one gecko, as don't really need thousands of these . Have found anyone doing a small scale version for just one pet. 😉

  • @jilliancrawford7577

    I keep my breeding bin in my bathroom closet with a space heater and some foil to help keep the temperature high without making the heater need to stay on all the time to keep the same temperature. I know it isn't as good as a proper heater with a thermostat but it does well enough to keep a small colony going lol.
    Is there a particular humidity percentage to keep in mind of and can dermestid beetles ever become a problem? The dermestids in mine are absolutely thriving, so of course the enclosure is very clean, but I want some other opinions if if they can compete for food and be an infestation like they can if they get with mealworms or superworms.

  • @helenandellie
    @helenandellie 2 роки тому

    Another great video! I’ve been making your 2020 chow with rabbit pellets, weetabix and porridge oats, would you say the mix you are using here is better? I feed the colony a small orange along with apple & carrots once a week, is that too much orange? I I move the nymphs out for a couple of weeks and stop feeding orange, thought that was enough time to get the citrus out of the system, hopefully I’m not wrong 😬
    I actually saw a female giving birth the other night, a first for me, it was pretty cool to watch.

    • @rebel4466
      @rebel4466 Рік тому

      Well my answer is very late, but might as well. The orange is digested by the roach, it's not a big problem for reptiles after that. I only wouldn't feed an orange to the colony and directly feed the roaches to a reptile afterwards. Just to be sure.
      The food isn't all that important, if it doesn't contain too much protein (for reptiles. Spiders or scorpions don't really care). Whatever is cheap for you.
      Lastly I'd not use water crystals at all. These are polymers, much like the stuff in diapers. If you wouldn't eat it, don't feed it to an animal. Rather drop in a carrot

    I really really really want to know how to keep the flies out. Fruitflies specifically. I have those infesting my dubia roach and hissing roach colony's to a point that I'm sick of keeping the colonies. In about a week the whole bin is full of larva and smells horrible.

    • @richardroyster405
      @richardroyster405 Рік тому

      Same here! I find I have to clean the bin out about twice a week to keep the gnats and flies under control. It's not too hard. I just wipe the frass and carcasses out. Thing is, the frass especially is supposed to be beneficial so I would really like a better solution. Another thing I do that helps some is put yellow fly paper on the inside of the lid where the roaches can't get to it. Still would like tips from others.

    I tried to ask on your brumation video, but didn't get a response. If my bearded dragon is in brumation ( he put him self in his cool hide and hasn't come out of it in 1 to 2 weeks ) but i know for a fact that he has food in his stomach because he ate a meal after the last time he popped, should I take him out and give him a bath and then let him go back into brumation, or would I let him be? I know their are cons to both, if I give him a bath, it will interrupt his brumation but if I let him keep going he could die of impaction? What should I do? He is an almost 8 year old beardy who I got 2 years ago. Last year he didn't brumate so this is my first experience with it, and him being so old makes me a little worried.

    • @TobysExotics
      @TobysExotics 2 роки тому

      So basically right now your Beardie has food inside of him and he is not warm enough to process it, this depends on what his enclosure temps are. So if his enclosure is still all lights turned on and fully still set up and he’s just gone to his cool side then there may be enough heat for him to warm up. If it is turned off though and he is in a cold viv you are basically letting food rot inside his stomach which will kill him rather quickly. Bearded dragons usually don’t brumate fully like for example some snake species and beardies usually will still come out mid brumation to have a wee look around. Personally, If you know for sure that he ate and that he hasn’t pooed and doesn’t poo then yes I would say a bit of encouragement wouldn’t go a mis as this is his life we are talking about here. However if he is still pooing and the food is processed properly then you should be absolutely fine. Just make sure you do not turn his enclosure lights off completely for now. Giving him the opportunity to bask and warm up if you think he still has food in his system is the best bet. Remember in nature, the sun is never turned off there are just more cooler and darker places than he would find in a viv. So give him the opportunity to bask but keep him at a low temp if that makes sense
      Hope this helps,
      Toby

    I've been following your roach journey and I can not believe your still using synthetic water crystals. I have several huge colonies and never once have they had water crystals. All you need is heat, chow and fresh veg on a night for hydration. I'm no knocking you but crystals died out ages ago fella. Anything synthetic is not natural so is not tge best way to breed dubias and after 10 years of breeding them and still using them should make anybody question if any advice your giving is accurate. Luckily enough 99% of your viewers don't know this so your channel will take no hit.
