I stayed until the end of course. I have my colony in a secluded area in a critter keeper. And I use three plastic bottle lids: one for the water crystals, one for dry food, and one for wet food. I just want to make sure I can avoid mold and fungi since they will be the main predator for my roaches. They seem to be doing quite well. I just have to get around to separating them. Great video!
Mate. I found you a week ago as we got a leopard gecko about a month ago. I've binged so many of your videos! Your info is top draw, I can't thank yoh enough for the time you put into them. Also, I'm starting a colony as soon as I can. Cheers!
As someone who's bred ivory head roaches for several years as composters I had no idea there was an expensive way lol. I've never spent one penny. I compost all my food scraps and garden/yard waste in the roach bins. So much better at composting than worms it isn't even funny. Not to mention they will eat anything where you have to be more selective with worms. They are also more resilient and faster breeders than worms Now, with that said the species of roach I am breeding requires slightly less heat than Dubias to breed. I don't need any heat in summer and in winter I put the bins in front of the vents in my house. Never had an issue
I just wanted to leave a huge thank you!! I have been setting up my first bioactive enclosure and am now in the process of building the second one and your videos have helped me immensely throughout the whole process! I still haven't actually gotten my first reptile because i am too scared, but my springtails and isopods seem to be enjoying themselves ! Thaank you so much and greets from the Netherlands :)
Hi Richard,I wanted to Thank you for your videos I was having problems breeding my Dubia roaches I took your advice on using oranges to get them going🥰🤣 and WOW it worked great now I have hundreds of Dubia Roaches !Love your channel and your content!
They really seem to be really popular since making the one about £2500 . Maybe alot of people are thinking about profiting off them. I know I'm thinking about doing it
Love the tips!! Watched your vid all the way through! Just started a dubia colony recently to feed my bearded dragon. Always trying to find ways to save money.... because that was the whole point of starting a dubia colony in the first place. As far as those plastic tubs, I agree I save as much plastic tubs and containers myself and try to reuse them in anyway I can before trying to throw it away... we really need to significantly reduce plastic use if not do away with it completely but anyways... you could use them as egg trays to put in an incubator if you ever decide to breed any of your reptiles. I use many of my plastic containers for some type of storage or end up converting them into a food/water dish or sometimes hides... i like hanging them in arboreal terrariums like for chameleons and that's where i'll drop the feeder insects for them to eat out of lol! Anyways awesome vid!! Keep it up!!
I do breed a few reptiles however with these tubs the venterlation in the side really hinders the hummidity needed for incubation. Thanks for the comment and watching until the end
I always watch your videos to the end😁👍 awesome video!! I have been breeding dubia for like 4 months now, they are doing fantastic. I will start breeding red runners in this week. Keep it up👍👍 greetings from sweden🇸🇪
Watched loads of your videos to the end! Thanks for always sharing such great info and tips. QUESTION: Do I have to separate out my feeding dubias from breeding colony's? Is that a nesscarry step? Or Can i keep all the dubias together? I only have one bearded dragon, she eats smalls for now.
I would recommend keeping them together, separating just turns into more effort than it's worth. I just take them out as I need them, but everyone is different so you do whatever works for you, just know that separating them is not a necessary step.
I watched this last year when it first came out because I was planning to start breeding dubias if my frogs liked them. Turned out, they didn’t, lol but I still used the information from the video to help me produce heat for my other amphibians I own. Now I have a new use for dubias so I wanted to review what I remember since I actually STILL own the dubias from when I previously bought them(almost all of th are adults now), and I now plan to breed them for my hamster.
I also found that using kaytee bird extract cockatiel weening food has the right amount of protein and nutrients for them since it’s grain based and I would definitely recommend you trying it out, the actual powder formula also has higher protein if you’re interested in that as well.
Hey this was a great video man. I'm starting my own a dubia roach colony & the weather is cold as well. The Kinetic heat was a good idea im have to see how I can apply that to my set up.
Hey still loving the videos! Had a quick flick through your vids and couldn’t see a video on bearded dragon supplements.. there’s a lot of conflicting information out there maybe an idea for a new vid.. reason I bring it up is I’ve just got a 3 month old one called balderick and finding correct info on the subject is a nightmare
hi mare i have learnt a lot from watching your videos and ive not long started breeding my own budia roachs i have about 12 roaches there is at least 6 adults one of them is a mail and i have some roaches coming up to adulthood and the rest are babies and im thinking of starting up 2 new collieries soon i feed the roaches to my 3 tarantulas as a treat
Love the tips very interesting I'm taking on a bosc monitor had reptiles before but the research I've done says they eat alot so looking in to doing my own dubia Colney taking tips thanks for ur opinion its much appreciated 👍
I've just started my dubia colony. Bought 50 small (mainly bought those for my gecko to try) 50 large and 100 medium. I've got them in my old terrarium. Have just covered the sides with black paper.
With the old containers that i get live feeders or animals in i save them for holding animals when cage cleaning or humid hides/boxes. I also use them to store food for certain animals and even to put calcium in them to dust my feeders easily
How large of a colony of dubias do you reckon would be needed to sustain a savvy? I’m looking to get one in the near future but what to be ready before hand :) (I will be supplying a varied diet Ofcourse, not just roaches)
I'm trying to start up my own dubia roach colony not for profit purposes, just to feed my bearded dragon. I use the the heat of my viv too and just check them once a week when I put in fresh veg. I'm still waiting and hoping lol x
Just started a colony a few days ago ordered 50 "large" roaches to start off with feeding them your chow mix and following your information so hoping it's successful. Currently In a clear container covered by a towel to keep it slightly dark but most seem to be staying at the bottom of the container is that normal?
Google is normally good at finding info, but I cannot get a fix on a source of those small plastic bug containers that you get when you buy live food at a pet shop. Obviously you would need them to ship insects to customers if you were breeding them for sale. Any info appreciated please even if it is just a search name of the container in question. Follow you and really enjoy your informative videos. - well done and thank you for your valuable efforts (thumbs up).
The plastic boxes I save for when I actually sell some of my insects or giant snails or something. Lot of buyers just show up without any thought of bringing a box of their own, so its good to have something to use.
Hi I know this isnt dubia related but I had a question. I rescued my savanah monitor and hes really small. Is that normal? He should be full grown being almost 4 years old. I know he was kept in a 40 gallon before I got him and wasnt being fed enough. Could that have stunted his growth?
Best way to get egg crates before you start a colony is simply buy crickets. They'll throw egg crate sections on the bag, just collect them and build a house with em
Iam starting up mines as well I have 200 males so far only paid like 15.00 for 200 males. Got lucky I guess .. it’s the females that are more expensive 🤦♀️
What I would do if I was allowed to breed them which I will one day is I would have 2 or 3 tubs of em and have a fourth tub with just their food for convenience purposes and have a mini fridge with carrots in it. Use egg cartons that I've got lying around because we have many of those and I'd order them online in bulk for like 200 and then I think that would be the easiest and most convenient and successful setup
hi i watch to the end do i get a badge award for doing so heheheh. I have not got yet but may be looking to buy a beaded dragon. I don't want to be spending money over the odds like going to pets at home and spending £2 for a small tub. So question is to give to a beaded dragon - 1- how many 2 - how often. so how big a colony do you need to have to not need to buy more since you said they only have 9 lots of kids how do you know when a female is no longer producing more kids.
I need an extrovert friend to go on an egg crate hunt. I’d prefer to pay $50 over walking into a restaurant and ask for some. lol. Introvert struggle is real.
I want to breed my own food for my Leopard Gecko but feel like he won't eat them fast enough and I'll have a lot of excesses.... my idea for solving that is to just get more Gecko's.
My son 12 and started breeding Leo geckos New York. I love your page. I would like to see your process in the shorting of your dubia and how often do you do so. Also check us out at @3brothersbreeding we welcome your feedback

Aww mate thanks a million. Means so much to me
How’s the colony now?
I'm just starting my colony for my leopard geckos. I'm starting out with roaches of various sizes and started with 100. Thanks for the tips.
For the insect box you could use them to sell your dubias, so once you have your insects you don’t need to buy deli cups but recycle and reuse the box
Great ideas

I will be putting mine in a small closet that houses the hot water heater. it stays at 90 plus.
