As a lifelong fan of Dolly and a fellow Tennessean, I can tell you her writing was and still is ahead of its time. There is one song in particular that is unlike any song that I have ever heard. It’s called ‘The Bridge’. It was an early song of hers. It’s a must listen story song. But just listen to it like you did this one. DON’T watch a live version. Trust me. I very much enjoy your reactions!
This was great, I have never heard this song. Dolly has written over 3000 songs in her career. She is just such a great person, Parton's Imagination Library has gifted over 221 million books since inception! to children 5 years of age and younger to get children to start reading. A very gifted artist.
Dolly takes pride in her biggest accomplishment being her songwriting. She's literally written thousands of songs and still keeps writing. I think she's at over 50 studio albums and counting nearly all of it her own songs.
I love Dolly. She is such a down to earth lady. She has acted, and was very good at acting..many movies ( 9 to 5, The best Little Whorehouse in texas, Steel Magnolias, just to name a few). She started out at a young age with another country singer, Porter Wagoner. They had many duets. When she decided to strike out on her own, she wrote the song " I Will Always Love You" for him. Yes it's the same song that Whitney Houston sang. Check her version out whenever you get the chance. Dolly is a beautiful soul who never forgot where she came from. Much love to you and your family ❤️
I have seen a few of her films! She is a great actress! And wrote so many iconic songs. Looking forward to more of her music. Thanks for watching. Much love to you and your family 🫂❤️
Dolly has some beautiful songs. Dolly was born in Tennessee and there is a Dover Tennessee. Her song “ An Eagle When She Flies “ I picked to be played at my Grandmother’s funeral. Would love for you to react to that
‘Me and Little Andy” is a heart breaker, some her new stuff is great to. She has a song with King and Country called “God Only Knows”, “He’s Alive” the live performance from the CMS’s. She made a rock album playing covers from rock groups “World On Fire”.
According to Google: The idea for the song came to Parton as she rode through Dover, Tennessee on her tour bus. The song was controversial for the times and Parton has stated in recent interviews that mentor (and uncredited producer) Porter Wagoner told her that she'd never get played on the radio with story songs like that.
Thank you for reacting to this very important song. The Bridge is another “Gothic” Dolly had to record!!! A true songwriter must get the message out … not for hits or radio play.
I don't know if Dolly had any Dover in particular in mind when she wrote this or whether she just used it because it rhymed with "clover" but there are many Dovers in the US and one is right here close to Nashville in Tennessee and Dolly lives in Tennessee so it might be a safe bet that she was referring to the Dover here in her home state. I don't think I have ever heard this song when it didn't bring tears to my eyes because I can absolutely identify with this young woman who was "sent from the homeplace" when her parents discovered she was pregnant. It also is not much of a leap for any of us to imagine a young man who would learn of a baby being expected and skate out never to be seen again. This song just breaks my heart. Dolly wrote this song I believe in 1969 but her record company thought the subject of a young girl being pregnant outside of marriage was too controversial a subject for them to allow her to release it as a single and it was sort of "buried" in an album. Fortunately, many people who heard it on the album requested in when Dolly performed somewhere live and they also called radio stations and requested that it be played so it could never be totally obliterated which is what I think her record company hoped for. It's a beautiful song even though it is extremely sad.
This is a remake. 1st time l've heard this version. I do like it, but l think her original recording makes me feel the saddest. IDK maybe it's because of the backkup singers. In both versions you can feel the emotions Dolly's singing with.
Thanks! Love your reactions. Requests: Ray Stevens, "Can He live You Half As Much As ( live version, not the one where he is in a chicken suit) " The Haircut Song" Original Version ( I have to find the right version...ua-cam.com/video/rGa9lvpooKl/v-deo.html&si=7oAQYToO3i9pqcx ) And "She's Got ToBe Somebody's Babe" Jackson Browne?
Thanks for the kind words and support, Kevin. All formal requests go through the buymeacoffee platform, you can find the link in the description of my video's.
I think Dolly once said she wrote this song while she was still a teenager. I would call it an early masterpieces by Dolly.

Thanks for responding to this song. Another great song is Mountain Angel, also heart breaking but a stunning song.
Thanks for watching and the recommendation.
I cried today like I did 50 yrs ago listening to this on my parents 8 track tape. A cautionary tale I remembered in my teen years. 😢

Wow! Thats a lot! Hope to explore many more!

Powerful song. Thanks for watching
Hard Candy Christmas. It's from a movie soundtrack. That same album had I Will Always Love You on it.

It's a tough one from Dolly. She certainly isn't always bubblegum and smiles.
Great song 😢😢
Definitely a tough song, but indeed a great one.
Dolly does great gospel music as well.

Mom always told me ' art ' should be pretty ...
I've always held the idea ' art ' should speak to the viewer ; pretty or not .
another she does that I love is What will Baby Be
For me Dolly is the best storyteller and Loretta Lynn a close second in county music!
Definitely want to explore more of both artists' music.
Love Dolly. Thanks for this one.
Thanks for watching!
Made me cry!
Definitely hit me hard as well.
Thank you for reacting to this very important song.

Very powerful song.

Me and Little Andy is very sad as well.

A good song is Sherri Austin/ Streets of heaven.
Try a few other sad songs of hers, Gypsy Joe & Me, I'm doing this for your sake, The Bridge, Me and Little Andy
Thanks for the recommendations!

Thanks for letting me know about that! Will have a listen to the original recording if i can find it.
When you paused to mention how sad the song is and that it was not sugar coated before you got to the real stinger I though "oh no. He ain't ready"
Very powerful song. Heartbreaking
Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood did an awesome cover of this. Check it out too!
That sounds amazing. Thanks for the recommendation!
