An Uncomplicated Watch | Seiko SBTM159

Welcome to Addicted to Watches. Today we’re looking at yet another watch I picked up from Japan, and yet another radio wave solar watch. Many people look down on quartz movements as cheap and nasty but there are still some high quality ones and especially in Japan. Seiko’s brightz line includes a lot of these, including this one. This is the Seiko SBTM159.

Great overview of this watch. How do you think this compares with the titanium Casio Oceanus OCW-S100-1AJF ? I bought a new Oceanus in Japan for about $476 (45,220 Yen).

I haven't personally handled one of the casios, however in terms of finishing from what I've seen, the Casio is head and shoulders above this Seiko. And I picked it up for under 20,000 yen second hand so for that price it's perfectly fine

45000 yen is about 320 dollars..

How would you compare this to the Astron SBXY031?

I'd say the astron is a level higher than this one in terms of quality and finishing, but that's also reflected in the higher price. Both are solid options, it just depends on budget and which design you like

Hi , I have just had the sbtm 313 arrive here in the UK . Having some issues getting it to sink to the atomic clock , do you have any tips ? Many thanks

All I can tell you is what the manual says because I haven't synced mine since I'm not in an area that receives the signal. Try placing it next to a window overnight. I think the manual explains which side of the watch the receiver is on, so point that out the window

Nice watch .. but Seiko could have made the second hand a lot better it looks awful up close.

The amount of crud on the dial and hands is horrific.

It does look like someone before me opened it up to do something like replace the battery and let dust in
