Kelp Farming .....You referring to Rikki? He couldn’t be further from a nihilist. Why call him a nihilist and not atheist? The only thing he rejects is religion. In every other aspect of his life he seems quite rounded and down to earth, though I don’t know him.

I lost my girlfriend to a drunk driver in 2007. She was 4 months pregnant with my only child when she died. Gervais' performance was so relatable to me in his outlook and demeanor that it took me back to those first couple of years without her, and not only how I felt, but what the people around me went through having to deal with me. After watching the first season, it actually helped me make peace with certain aspects of that time that I never really got over. This is truly an amazing series. While it stands on its own as is, I would love to see a second season!

I actually have a theory... well two.
Firstly, I reckon he thinks "wardrobe" is just a waste of time that eats into his profits. He's playing a guy who is kinda like him and looks like him and his age, so probably dresses like him.
Secondly, I think when you get a certain amount of money in the bank, Simon Cowell introduces you to his "large, black, v-neck, shapeless t-shirt shop" which is then worn religiously, like a uniform for the obscenely rich who no longer give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

I wish I could tell Mr Gervais how grateful I am for his brilliant "After Life." I stumbled upon the show shortly after my man died --- the love of my life, with whom I'd made a life, for over 20 years. I was deep in grief. Watching the show, it was all too apparent to me that I WAS the character portrayed by Mr. Gervais. Every bit of it. I cried a lot watching the series. Since Mr Gervais' character was purely fictional, I must applaud the PERFECT job he did in that portrayal. Gervais nailed it! I found something useful in the show...that there IS hope for me, as time goes on. I am still very much in the pain of my grief, a year later. I cling to the notion that perhaps it will be easier to go on alone, at some point. However, I have not reached it yet. But, there is that hope for myself. So, Mr Gervais, if you happen upon this comment, please know that you are brilliant! And, I thank you for "After Life." And, all rough edges aside, I love you for YOU and for daring to be you, even if others find that awkward or uncomfortable. I hope you will venture into other ideas always being YOU. Don't ever change.

Joy Shaw thank you and I’m sorry for your loss too ..such a weird saying isn’t it ? but it’s heartfelt . At least shows like this give us something to relate to and connect with in a real way . I think so many tv shows and movies portray widows and widowers in a lighthearted way and make it all about looking for another relationship . Not everyone copes easily and some of us are just plain broken by the loss of their soul mate . They are
not replaceable and many people struggle to “move on” . Grief is the cause of many many mental issues, addictions and sadly suicide . People need help and not much is available sadly . Take care 🌹

I have watched 'Afterlife' continuously for 6 weeks. I can't stop watching it over and over again. I've asked myself why and I'm not sure. Apart from the brilliant mind of Ricky Gervais encapsulating contemporary life through his character, I feel like watching the show is almost a religious experience. It elevates me to a level of empathy which we all battle with. Striking a balance between ourselves and those around us is in a sense the meaning of life. Having said that, 'Afterlife' is life for me now and until i draw my last breath. Thank you Ricky Gervais for making it a bit easier to understand the human condition, the dichotomy of existence.

I love Tony because he is such a complete a-hole when he's interacting with others. He sort of startles to hear that 100 yr old lady call everyone "cunts." Perhaps that was the episode where he changed his attitude the most about the way he was behaving towards his peers in the story? I just loved that lady's attitude simply because I personally would NEVER want to live to see 100. I laughed like crazy at her rant about all the other 'cunts' she has had to outlive there at her retirement home. Hilarious.

I lost my wife to cancer. She was the absolute perfect soul mate and everyone adored her. I watch After Life occasionally because Lisa is so much like my Karen. This series helped me immensely with dealing with my loss knowing I will never have another, and concentrate on being there for the kids and of course our dog which is what she would want. She sends me signals and I can't wait to see her again, and I am good with it.
When I stop crying I will start worrying. Thank you so much for After Life.

This series shows the touching and funny side of Ricky Gervais. I wish there were more episodes per season. It is happy and sad and wonderful and in this time of so many people passing, it is needed to give people an outlet to cry and laugh and not be judged in public. You are helping an endless amount of people with the series and I am one of them. Cheers, Mr. Gervais.

So many of us dont talk about grief enough and try to cover it up. What is powerful is he talks unahamedly about feeling everything to feeling nothing. Something so raw and beautiful, ive never seen this in any other series. The conversation about suicide and having it as a back up and how that makes you feel better. When someone you love dies you dont just grieve for the personyou grieve for yourself as you were with that person. Thank you for helping me on mmy journey Ricky (if you ever read this) x

I am convinced afterlife is a modern masterpiece. There is nothing else I have ever seen that has captured comedy/tragedy and blended so well between them in a single scene transition. The emotions it plays with are fantastic. The portrayal and writing of Tony is perfection, you can relate to him and tell exactly what kind of person he is from the first episode so well it feels like you can read his thoughts on situations. Ricky Gervais is an Artist, Shakespeare would be taking notes

I loved everything about this series. Then I watched the out takes on YT and laughed so much it hurt. How the actors got through any scene amazes me. Looks like they had so much fun. Not only are these actors brilliant but seeing them undone just like anyone makes me realise just how hard acting is. Behind the seriousness, they're all crying with laughter too. What a gift this series is. Just brilliant.

The whole thing was fantastic. Had me crying and then laughing, over and over again. I loved so many of the characters, Tony and Lisa of course but also Tony's brother in law, Anne at the cemetery and Tony's dad. In fact all the characters were well written and we'll acted. Loved them all including the lovely dog. I think it's not a rarity for someone's loved pet, to be the thing that stops them giving up and helps them on the road to recovery.

This man is so talented, not only amazing comedic perception but the ability to draw out empathy and poignancy into every series. The actors he chooses are extremely well chosen and add a great deal to All of his series. Has incredible intuition which is the key to this quality work
