I’m 70 years old and this sure brought back memories of the mid seventies when I actually drove a Wrecker identical to that except it was green and a just a little shorter because the gap between the cab and bed wasn’t as wide and ours had a extra 40,000 # bed winch, thanks for the memories. God Bless and stay safe out there!
My uncle Harry was friends with the Gillespies . I remember when I was a kid going to Florida for couple weeks and staying with him and going to that shop. This video brought back a lot of memories.
I was there maybe 3 years ago to visit some family and we stopped at this place and I've always wanted to see if those trucks would run. Thank you for the content and glad to see the truck run. Thanks again
I'm soooo glad that you got a chance to see both of those trucks. I've been passing those trucks for 15 plus years wondering what the history was on the two of them.
That’s crazy that’s old man Gillespie’s tow truck. I remember seeing that old truck cruising up and down highway 60 over 20 years ago. It was a single axle tractor before they put the tow truck body on and it ran really good 👍
Cool video! I love big old wreckers. Back in the early 90's I drove a 1975 White fuel truck with a 3208 Cat, positive ground. Every morning in the winter that truck was hard starting. The heater in the cab might as well been non-existent, however, I did get some heat through the firewall. The two speed rear was air operated the two speed motor would freeze and I had to drive it in low range for about ten miles until the rear warmed up, then it would shift. It had power steering, a hydraulic cylinder that ran the length of the front axle and, I believe, connected to the pitman arm, so basically the steering was all me lol.
Hi from uk Bruce👋👍 great will it start there and thanks Mr Gillespie for access too 👌 good old piece of history in fact I bet the whole shop and land got a few tales to tell 👍 love it an thanks for your time and be safe see you soon 👍👋
It's my prayer that you would be safe in your adventures whilst bringing old trucks back to life and refreshing some viewers' memories! Thanks so much for making my day as always!
I know you are stepping back from UA-cam a bit, but man, it's fun to watch your videos on the "Will It Start?" series. Plant City has a special place in my heart. I had a great uncle who pastored FBC there a long time ago. I've always wanted to go explore there. In any case, keep 'em coming, Bruce - when you can.
Neat old truck and service station. I agree that we need to keep businesses like that going. Those places are usually good to deal with and can get you out of a pinch. Thanks for the videos. Look forward to the old dodge start.
Our grain truck was exactly that Dodge...but so mint that we took pictures in it and people thought it was a classic car...my favorite part was the pull up hood scoop for better air flow and the foot pump window washer.
That old wrecker has been there for at least 20yrs. I remember when 60 & Turkey Creek was strawberry fields and the Racetrac was built. Been to many wrecks at that intersection as well. Fun times at Medard Park too!
I love that shop! I can just SMELL the history of this place! I grew up around Diesel shops and Train yards here in the Pacific Northwest Pasco Washington.
Uggh! I wish there were more old shops and buisnesses around like this one!!! I didnt get to enjoy them when they were around, but the few ive been in make me miss them! Such a cool piece of history. So much knowledge in that building.
Same here In Kentucky..I worked for a company that had too many of these trucks, my first job in trucking. Schwerman Trucking company, they're still in business I think
Once these old trucks crank, next try the air horn. Everybody who loves old trucks loves air horns. Great video. Keep up the good work. What a cool way to make a living.
The old Dodge tow truck is a C series . Many of them came with either a 361 or 413 big block gas engine. They also had inline 6cyl. two stroke Detroits in some of the twin screw road tractors which took up a lot of the inside of the cab.
I drove a 1971 C 900 with a 238 Detroit and a 13 speed that was a tractor made into a dump and I can attest to the room being taken up in the cab. It was tight in there and hot inside even in the late fall
Nice job use to run a 750 Holmes split boom with a 1 inch drag line. This thing was mounted on a old Kenworth tandem 71 or 72 can't recall just now the actual year. That old girl could out pull alot of these new rigs. Enjoy the day.
My papaw has. 1972 brockway. Very similar looking. Has a Holmes wrecker body on it. Frame is tripled. 1693 cat paired with a road kind 10 speed. Still runs and drives today. And he still towed stuff with it until about 2019 when he sold the buisiness (kept the truck) because of a stroke. He lets me drive it from time to time. Such an awesome piece of history
That's awesome that that old war beast came back to life. Sounds like you need some Claritin or something like that if u go back out there for another revival. Glad ya found ya camera person
Inside doesnt look so bad. The outside looks like it has a lot of rust repair work needed but its manageable I would imagine? Be a sweet truck to partially restore especially with that wrecker body.
That's the "Tow-mater"! 😁 I like those old trucks, and the patina was really cool. In the days of no power steering, you'd need a knob on the wheel, maybe two. That Toyota sitting beside it would make a good off road rig.
Just goes to show the build quality of trucks back then. Been sitting for close to a decade and all you really need to check is that it has an engine. Yes? Okay, hook some batteries up, spray the intake, and she’ll chooch. Always fun to see.
The ones I have been around you pull the compression relief and let the engine spin fast and then let he compression relief go and then it starts, lol nice thanks BigAl California
That’s an awesome truck. Great job getting it running. Bruce I don’t know if this is possible, but it would be really cool if you brought a mobile pressure washer along to each truck and gave it a clean before leaving it. Just to see what’s underneath.
Growing up, I lived right next to a junk yard. I remember all of the old cars, and trucks. I spent lots of time climbing in and out of them, even got stuck a few times, lol
The reason the steering is geared so low on it is so you can do your work and not need arms like a weight lifter just to drive it. I drove a 70 white 9000 just like it with manual steering and you really didn’t need both arms to steer it going down the highway but backing it into a tight dock it was appreciated
@@dawarmonky2122 Ah ok...no wonder then that he does it so well. I like the background he shares with us about the vehicle, and how he tries so hard to not damage anything. Someone may want to restore these old pieces of iron one day.

Going down to spend every summer with my dad he lives off of turkey creek i Distinctively remember seeing those old tow trucks thank you for reminding me of home .
Greetings from the O-H-I-O Porters.🇺🇸 Those we’re cool old trucks! My buddy has a White 4000 as well & it’s a wrecker.🤩 This is a 72 model? Love the simple dash. The cab was in rough shape & I bet the floorboard is rather rusted as well, but still a good truck.🧐 Love those old shops like that. I went to places like this with my dad when I was growing up. He took me to a lot of old junkyards as well. Love it! 🥰 Glad you got that thing running! It seemed to run rather nicely & it still had good air pressure! Wow! Love to see those old trucks still being used & appreciated! Not abused or neglected! Good stuff! It was nice to have those jumpers as well! Saved ya! Thanks for taking time to do things like this! The old Dodge will be a cool truck to start. It’s probably got a 360 gas engine. Those swing out fenders really opened the front end up for engine access. Loved those trucks, too! The cabs really rusted out if they weren’t taken care of though. Bring it on! Take care! 🥰😎✌️
Looks like y'all are having fun down in Central Florida Bruce! Question, do you ever post follow up video's about the machines you get started? Would be curious to see what actually happens to these pieces of history! Video's are great!

ME TOO, John. 750 on a Mack. Got a thumb that is a little bent from the manual steering. Great old trucks !!
I want a Holmes 750 so bad. Rugged, versatile, and still relevent for recovery work for those mean and tough jobs.

That old tow truck is awesome. The motor is either a 220 Cummins, a 230 Cummins or a 250 Cummins. Runs good for sitting there as long as it has.
As my family’s business revolves around tow trucks this hits me hard

Yall started and drove that moldy old wreck without check the oil and with the old fuel in the tanks??? That's amazing!

I was gonna say, probably a 413. Seem to be more common than the 361.

I was thinking that Dodge is an LCF, Low Cab Forward. Near the end of the C series there were International 478 & 549 gas engines installed.
