I started driving Detroits back in 1975, and I had a boat with a pair of 6-71's. I will NEVER get tired of hearing those engines! And resurrecting a cool old truck is about the second greatest gift to mankind! Well done guys! And a Merry Christmas to all.
First great credit to you younger guys for saving these from the melting pot. It is so nice to see people taking intres in theses trucks that are younger than me. The removal of the air intake from the sleeper was commonly done. Reasons for this were first it gave you more room for your feet when you were sleeping at night. Second made the cab quieter and warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. As a Canadian all of the v12 we saw had 46,000 pound rears it is funny to see this big power with such small rear ends. Most of the V12 up here were used for hauling trains. So there aren’t many left that were not work to death. Can’t wait to see the progress.
My grandpa and uncle drove gravel train in Michigan and I remember seeing that cabover when I was a kid and you can't ever forget the beautiful sound of a buzzin dozen
It absolutely blows my mind that truck could have sat that long and then started up that easy and ran that clean. Wishing Everyone A Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
What a glorious thunder when she leapt to life, there’s just nothing else that sounds like one of those big old mills! Very cool, love this truck what a beast, whoever ran this thing back in the day was the king shit of the road 👍
Oh man you shoulda seen it. We only had enough hose to hook up the lift side of cylinders - the other side of the cylinders was disconnected so if it went past balance point it woulda free fell.
Love this content, Good to see a few friends enjoying and sharing an interest in old classic trucks. Must be a great feeling seeing that motor come alive again after all of those years.
That is an awesome truck all around. Imagine being the guy that drove that one new? Telling everyone he's got the buzzin dozen. Nice to see it live again.
What a cool truck! I love the sound of a Detroit! My buddy had '74 Kaywopper K925 dump truck with an 8V-71, and I loved riding in that truck listening to the Detroit sing!
"The Buzzin´Dozen". It must be so cool driving a 12 cylinder 2-stroke diesel that revs so high in a truck. Best Regards and Merry Christmas from a German viewer.
It's always great when you have James bacon with you on these adventures, although he's been a little bit reserved than normal all in all another great video Wayno Merry Christmas
Man this brings back memories…I grew up on a farm in Ohio. As a little kid, I would love it when the trucks would come to the farm to pick up a load of grain. Usually corn or soybeans! Sometimes wheat or oats. But I would beg the truckers to let me ride in the cab, sometimes they would let me ride to the edge of the property….I thought that was the best thing ever! I still feel that excitement when I see some close up truck action. Thanks for sharing! Happy holidays to you and family…..Tom
Thank You for today’s video. I’m avoiding family and watching this video. I’d rather watch your videos than be stuck with annoying people. Merry Christmas my friend.✌️
Awesome Wayne ! Merry Christmas to you all! That was great to see how easy she fired up , great to save those old trucks . I gotta get a 12 v71 , my biggest two stroker is a 8v T 350 hp , had her going yesterday love the sound when she fires up . There’s a dude here in New Zealand who put a 16v71 in a IH tractor for tractor pulling 🤣 surprised he hasn’t broken the tractor ….yet
It’s amazing how a non turbo 12-71 made 475 peak hp and around 1250 torque. That’s roughly the same numbers as an HO 6.7 Ford now. Granted, the Detroit would make that number all day everyday but still…pretty amazing. Oh, and nice truck. That’s going to pop when it’s all cleaned up.
Absolutely awesome!! Clean it up, pull a full service on it. Give it a Wayno super tune and once over and throw it back on the road. That truck would be a blast to haul grain with. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas 🎄
That short wheelbase on that sleeper/tandems cabover is OLD SCHOOL! Gotta get them Detroits running good, because the next guy would rather have a Cummins, but will keep the Detroit if he can keep it running.
Merry Christmas uncle wayno 👍🏻 best wishes to you and yours, best wishes to the rest of the viewers, god bless you and god bless America from Manchester north west England. 🙏🏻🏴❤️🇺🇸 Jay
Beautiful old COE, kinda small fuel tanks though, for a truck that would get 5 mpg, on a good day..love the old DD, my dad had a 78 pete, he bought it new in 79
Unfortunately if Donnie ever decides to Sign up and goin the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) he would be told by the President of the ATHS;that he would have to put the air cleaner back in it's origional location or he wouldn't be able to join as that is one of the conditions that needs to be met,if someone wants to register their truck in the ATHS it has to be in origional (factory stock) condition for a classic truck to be registered in the ATHS Historical class section at truck shows like MATS (Mid America Truck Show).

I never get tired of them either! Merry Christmas!
I started on a 1972 Brockway 318 Detroit 13 speed and your absolutely right that sound of a Detroit will haunt you forever!!!!
@@DaveO-ts8dw Seems EVERYONE started on them, and then you either loved em or hated em from there!
A pair of 6-71s, I'm surprised that you can hear anything now 😊 I'll bet that was some sweet music.
@Notthisguyeither 🤣🤣🤣
That thing cranked up like it was parked in that barn last winter. Fantastic.
Unreal how well they come back to life sometimes!
@@Ol2StrokerNow I just wonder why it was parked just starting like that? Hope you had a festive holiday Wayne. Have a great New Years 🎉
covered it in the first video. Economy tanking, fuel prices, and their business changed more to excavation.
@Ol2Stroker Ah, shows how much retention I have! Did watch, guess I was still mesmerized by the pair - best to you, hopes for a great new year.
What a Christmas present. Thank you Wayne
Merry Christmas! Hope you enjoy the video.
anytime I hear a Detroit come to life I'm happy.
same!
As badass as a long hood conventional cab is I will always love me a cabover the best, and this one is super cool! What a rig! 👍
It's aces!
Death trap in a wreck.
@andyloebrown8250 don't wreck it 🤷
@@Ol2Stroker And don't wear no damned flip-flops in it!!!!😁
@@Ol2Strokercan’t always help it, especially if the other driver is an idiot
Awesome guys I drove a 79 transtar coe in 86 it had the 318 Detroit in it fell in love with that old truck.keep it up guys
That's late for an old 318!

Pretty amazing actually! Merry Christmas!
Congratulations Wayne on a Successful Startup and to Donnie for saving a Beautiful 352 , 👍👍👍👍
He finally got his dream truck after our 7 year chase!
What a glorious thunder when she leapt to life, there’s just nothing else that sounds like one of those big old mills! Very cool, love this truck what a beast, whoever ran this thing back in the day was the king shit of the road 👍
I would love to see a picture of it working!
Wow ! 352 with a 12/71 cleaned up real nice , needs just a little more love and care ! The 359 has a 12/71 wow !
She's getting all the love, bud.
Oh yea we'll get it backed dialed. Great start though!
That is the most frightening thing. Tilting a cab for the first time in a long time.
Oh man you shoulda seen it. We only had enough hose to hook up the lift side of cylinders - the other side of the cylinders was disconnected so if it went past balance point it woulda free fell.
And if we're being honest i still get nervous every time i tilt mine.
Hey steve
Wayne is the real Santa on this Christmas Morning. 😂
I'm trying! Merry Christmas!
Can't hardly wait to see yours up and running. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas! It's KILLING me
I love how clean it runs after sitting all those years! Hating on Brucie W was epic, should’ve threw Whistlin Diesel under the bus as well 😂
It runs really well after all that sitting! No hate intended just talkin a little shit!
WOW SHE GOT THAT DETROIT GROWL TO HER
Now that presents have been opened, family is napping...time for watching some 12v-71 goodness! Merry Christmas!

Yea twin 70s is short haul capacity for a v12 lol

To me, I think it looks better with the intakes up behind the cabin instead of through it.
Better isn't original.
