  • State forest camping in Michigan is a great opportunity to try some rustic boondocking with a bit of structure for those who might think finding a spot in the middle of the woods isn't for them. At Leverentz Lake State Forest Campground near Baldwin, you'll find two lakes for kayaking, canoeing, or fishing, plus vault toilets, a hand pump for fresh water, a short trail system, and large sites that are well spaced out for some privacy.

    Michigan State Forest campgrounds rock. I've always liked them due to the lack of electricity and the resulting lack of noise. Keep the good stuff coming guys.

    You can fill water for RVs from hand pumps, I put a large plastic funnel in my blue 5 gallon water jugs pump them full and pour into my trailer water fill very easy

    You make camping in a state forest very appealing! I may have to try that in the fall. Just wanted to say, based on your vlog on Cheboygan State Park, I booked two weeks and I love it! Small, quiet and friendly. It’s what I remember camping used to be! I mentioned you to the camp hosts and they remember you from last year. Keep up the great work! The state should be paying you for your great reviews on their parks!

      Thanks for all of your support, Karen. It's great to hear that Cheboygan SP worked out so well for you. It is a quiet little gem that too many people probably overlook. Although, for peace and quiet, maybe we shouldn't keep encouraging people to go there. 😀 Safe travels! -Ari

    I bet the well water was cold enough to give you "Brain Freeze"! How do they collect the $15 site fee? Thank you for posting another great episode...😊

      Ha! It was very refreshing to splash off in and to drink. 😄 As for fee collection, there are envelopes and a pay tube at the front of the campground. They accept cash and checks. Great question, we should have probably covered that in the video, so thanks for asking!!

    Sorry state forest campgrounds are 20 dollars a night now but still worth every penny!

      Yes, the price has gone up, but as you said, it is still worth it! Thanks for watching.

    Hey guys, another great video! We will be up in the Charlevoix area for about a month this summer. We have a 40’ 5th wheel. Can you recommend a state forest campground we might be able to get to fairly stress free? We are new 5th wheelers. There does not seem to be much in that area as far as state parks go, that or I am missing it somehow. Thanks and hope to see you camping this summer.

      Young, Fisherman's Island and Petoskey state parks are the three that come to mind in that corner of Michigan. Fisherman's Island is mostly rustic camping, although that's what you'll get with state forest campgrounds, too. There isn't much state forest left up there for them to put state forest campgrounds into, either. Plus, most of the state forest campgrounds have length restrictions that your 5th wheel probably exceeds. It's often because of the way they are set up and lack of maneuverability, not the size of the sites. Thanks for watching and commenting -- wish we could be more helpful with with camping ideas for you! If you haven't tried it yet, check out The Dyrt, because it lists public and private campgrounds in an area, with reviews from users, and we have found it to be very handy. ( www.thedyrt.com )

    How was the Verizon cellular service at this campground?

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  2 роки тому +1

      I found a note on a Google review I wrote that Verizon cell service was "decent." We probably didn't test it all that much that weekend because it was a holiday and we weren't working, however, if the cell service is really poor, we probably would have noted that in the video, because we do have family that we try to keep in touch with even while boondocking.
      And, that was two years ago and we have found that even in many areas, cell service is continually improving, so it may have gotten better by now.
      I wish I could be more definitive for you. Thanks for watching! -Ari

    Hey did this campground have a beach?

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  4 роки тому

      No, it has just the kayak launch (Little Leverentz) and the boat ramp/fishing pier (Big Leverentz). Plus, it's not a lake we're sure anyone would want to swim in. 😳😄

    what makes the class b better for you than class c

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  4 роки тому

      For us it's about the size. The B has less height, width and length to deal with in the forested areas we like to visit and camp in. Also, we get way better gas mileage than most class C's. Still, there are times when we envy the storage bays on the C's!

    what is your thoughts on e bikes

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  4 роки тому

      Haven't ridden them but would like to try it. Initially, my biggest concerns would be justifying the cost (which is coming down) plus dealing with the added weight on the back of our rig. -Ari
