I took a couple of those edger blades that go on weed eaters that looks like circular saw blade and ground the teeth down and put a scandi grind on them and they are scary like a razor blade frizbe from hell try it out if anything can be called a throwing glaive they can 👍

I said this a while back on a previous vid, but I would still recommend putting thick rubber tiles on top of those concrete tiles. So the weapons don’t get damaged and last longer.
Flex Seal should do it

I've seen some EVA yoga foam tiles from the dollar store, so that might work for cheap.
I can't say how it is there, but here any decent farm supply store will have 3/4" rubber stall matting for cheap.
Cover the concrete tiles with big thick slabs of Boromir meat.
Weapons seem to bounce like crazy on those. >.>

Really, when that 5 blade "glaive" whistles by your head, and your brain finally catches up on current events, realizing what had _just barely_ missed you, most people would decide that the fight just wasn't worth it.
Unless that was their only weapon and are now unarmed, now you realize you've already won.

Unless it's a throwing axe or javelin, I wouldn't worry too much.
Thrown weapons are more of a distraction than a lethal threat.
If you have this mindset you can catch a knife thrower off guard and get the drop on him by just trying to tank his projectiles.
You will get hurt, you will bleed a little. But it's very unlikely to kill you.
@@sevenproxies4255 Nah, I think most people just haven't put in the time, and they have bad technique. I can consistently sink a knife into a 5 inch diameter circle at any distance up to 20ft. Beyond that it's less consistent, but still passable. A person could definitely be incapacitated relatively easy. I mean, just a rock the weight of a throwing knife could kill you under the right circumstances. Our ability to throw has helped us evolve to where we are now. There's a reason why so much of our technology is just an enhancement of our ability to throw things, from the atlatl to landing a probe on a comet.
Blade is an amazing movie. Would love to see an analysis of his sword as well.
MCU Blade is also going to suck hard without Wesley Snipes.

Mahershala Ali is a great actor, and I think he could be awesome as Blade. I don't think the lack of Wesley Snipes is why it'll be terrible, but oh yeah, I think it'll be terrible, regardless of how good Ali might be. Disney can't make anything but trash these days. Doubly so when it comes to the MCU.

Something I noticed about Shad's performance with the throwing knives is that he kept on having to adjust his pauldrons every time he got into position! Even if the pauldrons were light weight and weren't getting in the way of his throw, he was getting distracted about keeping them in position, which meant he wasn't fully focused on the throwing! In the meantime, the other two who did not have pauldrons almost threw perfectly!

there's definitely a disadvantage having your shoulder rotation impeded like that. You cant really get your arm high enough for a good throw.
Krull is one of my favs. It's a glorious, cheesy 80s swords-and-sorcery romp with loads of "before they were famous" big names like Robbie Coltrane and Liam Neeson
If you try something like this again, you might try making a Caber throwing weapon from "Beastmaster". It's like a folding double-handaxe thingy

If I remember correctly, the krull weapon mostly moved on its own. He would theirs it in the general direction, but the weapon would spin and move in is own.
It both moved independently and could be directed and recalled.
Nope, Colwyn controls it, he claimed it and became bonded with it enabling him to control it's flight and return to him.

@@Blurns They make him looks like the kind of noble stereotype that just uses his wealth to get tutored in combat and taken on adventures. In fact, their gear all kinda makes them look like different kind of adventuring nobles: Tyranth the warfare-oriented type (like a former captain/general), Shad the exploration-oriented type (the one looking for unusual creatures to hunt/capture or unchartered terrain to map and name), and Nate seemed like the type of pragmatic noble (responsible, handles the party's finances/logistics) kinda just being dragged along knowing the other 2 might kill each other without them (even though would rather be eating good food and drinking good alcohol back at his keep).
My wife made me a pair similar to those many years ago, only in brown. Used to wear them when I went to Faires...can't afford to go anymore, so they just sit there, not being worn. They are quite comfy.

A glaive is a weapon for slicing far away people. Usually using a blade on a pole, but you can also just throw the blades for a throwing glaive. At least that's a reason the name could make sense, though I'm pretty sure someone just thought "throwing glaive" sounded cool (which I do agree with).
Perhaps something like "glaive chakram" since "throwing" got dropped and just "glaive" used for various fantasy chakrams including both fully round blades proper and "rounded" knives that don't complete an outer circle.
I love how nate is still in the intro for being apart of this legacy; but is it possible that he might do videos with y'all in the future as a cameo?

I think the Blade one seems like a two-headed sickle, despite the cutting edge being on the outer side instead of the inside, and having a point on the blades instead of being flat at the end. It's like if you took a reverse-edged sickle (like the reverse katana) with two blades inverted on the handle, which is around the same size as a sickle handle anyway.
Best game for glaives has to be Warframe. It has both the Krull kind, in all sorts of flavours, and the proper polearm kind, also in all sorts of flavours. Warframe isn't accurate to anything, though, it's just a fun and very weird game.

Not just the Krull kind of glaive, it's the actual Krull glaive, first reappeared in Dark Sector and then it's spiritual sequel Warframe.
Someone probably already mentioned it, but throwing glaive most likely was meant to be a different word for throwing knives, and inspired by the roman gladius. As a gladius in french is called a glaive, and I believe glaive is also acceptable in english as a synonym for gladius, it simply is less used since the polearm named glaive is more recent and people like latin words like gladius.

So the term Glaive is actually correct for bladed throwing weapons where multiple arms stick outward from the throwing center, its just that another culture happened to make the polearm variant also called a Glaive (polearm glaives are actually far more recent, so technically the throwing variant has some claim to being the one that should hold the name). Glaives (thrown) and Chakrams were the two close relatives and sometimes even were made in ways that counted as both
Boromir caught the wrong end of the knife because there was a RING attached to it.
As someone who owns and knows a bit about fighting with a glaive i can tell ya. Throwing it CAN work, but in most cases WON'T so you SHOULDN'T throw a glaive.

Glaive = Scimitar on a stick. They can include an extension of the lower end of the blade that returns to the pole.

How I would love to see a full-sized, high-carbon steel version of the Krull Glaive.
As for the name, if I'm not mistaken, 15th Century English made the word Glaive from the Latin word for Sword, Gladius. Originally, 'Glaive' was just another term for a large bladed weapon, with the more famous Glaive-Polearm being distinguished by the fact it was a Polearm with a Sword-Like Blade.
When the Glaive was named in the movie, I think what they were going for was this idea of a "mystical sword", like Excalibur, that went beyond the expectations of mundane understanding. So, it was essentially meant to be understood as a Five-Bladed Sword, more than a Throwing Star/Wind and Fire Wheel/Star Knife type weapon.
I live for the Shad vs Tyranth rivalry. I also love everyone caught in the middle, between Nate's "oh look the boys are at it again" and Ant's "yup, super glad to be here, going with whatever you say!" attitudes, it's half the reason I watch these. Love the weapons and the information and all that, great stuff. But the banter between everyone is just the icing on the cake.

I think… you should do a video on Kingdom Hearts combat. Shad’s reaction to the Keyblades would be hysterical, and it’ll just pile on the hysteria as the Shadiversity team goes deeper. Lots of questionable weapons, lots of other things, and Shad being himself in a Kingdom Hearts setting would be priceless.

It's a double ended or double headed Karambit. The key part that is missing is the finger loop at the end off the handle that makes it easier to hold on to.

With the overhand throw distance is very important due to the rotation. Which is why the flat throw with throwing knives is a more versatile option as range to target is not as much of a factor.
Without Nate, it just doesn't feel like medieval Top Gear anymore 😭😭
"Krull" was one of my childhood favorite movies. Which is why I immediately recognized the Glaive when "Sho" threw it in "Ready Player One".

Ya know what the absolute best practice for throwing the “Blade” version. There’s a “Kong” dog toy that’s a combination tug of war toy and throwing toy. It took me a while to learn to throw it correctly, but now that I’ve learned I can throw it almost as far as a frisbee.

@@DH-xw6jp both would work in a video but I’m more interested in the functionality of a cape. I know he uses it to glide, shield himself and others, and uses it to stun enemies. I just want to know how functional it can be against a single enemy or multiple.
@@Beymaster20247 I know capes were used in sword duels (there are mentions in manuscripts), but I'm not sure if even a ballistic cape would help against henchmen with guns.

I love the banter these videos bring XD, literally just 3 dudes screwing with each other having a good time.
Shad pushes it too far. Some of the videos (like this one) end up just being him doing "I win/you lose" bants to the point of completely ignoring the subject of the video. Rather than constantly trying to win, they could have discussed what they were seeing/learning from each throw. Don't get me wrong, it's fun in small doses, but Shad doesn't seem to be able to let things go and actually focus on the topic at hand.
Shad Norris can kill you with either end of a throwing knife.
It's so funny, I can definitely tell you and Jazza are siblings because of how you both shout when excited. Like the kunai intro clip, very similar sounding
Anthony is settling in well to the "Hammond" role.
One point to add with the Blade weapon is that he's using it against vampires that go poof when hit so getting it stuck in isn't really a concern or priority for him.
9:44 just as Tyrenth goes to throw the blade you can hear a chirp. I think he's using V.A.T.S with a hidden Pip-Boy. Shad you should look into if he's cheating by not using his actual aiming skills and just relying on the hit percentage.

If I remember correctly, the Krull device had curved blades. Great movie at the time when I was a kid. Joerge at the Slingshot Channe,l designed a really cool throwing weapon that always stick in the target, regardless of strength or technique. Really cool device! Cheers.

Legend has it that the name 'Glaive' was a hang on from the days when these blades were launched from the end of a glaive for more distance and power etc, A trait discovered in battle when damaged glaives would lose their tips whilst being swung at opponents, this very quickly led to the development of the 'throwing glaives' we know today, these ones being simply a more concealed carry/EDC version, although they were mostly used to show off whilst feasting. ;)
I like it when a shadow University video turns out like this. Things that shouldn't work work extremely well. I love how baffling it is as a reaction when it when it does happen.

A name that will live forever.
It encapsulates the design to perfection.
I can already see several problems with their glaive tests:
1. Blade's glaive isn't meant to be thrown like it's an ordinary knife.
2. In addition to the grip from the gloves the other issue is his shoulder armor. (Blade didn't wear any shoulder armor and had a lot more arm maneuvering.)
3. He keeps throwing overhead and releasing too late.
4. He's at a greater range than what he might be used to throwing at.
5. The material and density of the glaive also factors in: Blade's was probably made of silver to kill vampires, whereas the one's they have are carbon steel.
6. Using the glaive in close combat isn't just about wrists, it's also about elbow positioning, grip strength and general arm motions.
7. A glaive like blade's isn't really meant for piercing so much as it's meant for slashing.
Any weapon can be mastered; what's required is discipline, imagination and adaptation.
In the video games I've played. Throwing Glaves were usually about half the size of short swords blade wise. In terms of anime size comparison think about maybe just shy of the Demon Wind Shuriken.
The throwing glaive is supposed to be shard on both the inner AND outer edges. If you had it the correct way it would have stuck 90% of the time even if thrown the way blade throws it in the movie. I bought a replica which obviously came with a flat edge but I grinded it down and then used wet stones to bring the edges to a razor sharpness and it works AMAZING!
Across central and southern Africa there was a hodgepodge of things like with a variety of names that were generally lumped together as "throwing irons" that's about the closest real counterpart.

hey shad, good video. i think next time you do a throwing weapon test, you should unequip the pauldrons. it looked like they were interfering with your range of motion in your throw. i think this really illustrates how pauldrons like these were designed for melee combat and werent designed for throwing weapons
The Throwing Glaive, I know that from Warcraft 3. One Hero of the elven factions and an infantery unit used these. And I think there was a siege version.
They had a ballista-like thing they could load the glaives into to fire them further, or use them as a thrown weapon. Or as a melee weapon, but never really understood how that worked.
Get some stall mats for the concrete.
They are a nice stiff rubber, they might even work for your makeshift armor tests.
Shad opens by proving the lightsaber hilt is all you need.
