I'm not a video guy just a photographer but I've also found myself picking up a few older cameras I used to have from years ago just to see what I can get out of it now. I wonder if that's a common thing to do amongst certain creatives. Part nostalgia, part seeing how far you've come.
i still use my 80D, got it back in 2018 and never had an issue with it. i'm an independent filmmaker from the philippines and heat is an issue here, but i never experienced overheating issues even after 10-12 hours of shooting (even straight 2 hour sit down documentary interviews). planning to get the SONY FX30 as my new A-cam. considering that the FX30 doesn't have a viewfinder, i'm still gonna use my 80D as just a street photography cam, or when i'm in the mood to feel it's shutter.
5:19 pure gospel 👏🏻 I think it’s a terrific camera either for beginning filmmakers or advanced ones like you who know what they’re doing. I had a 90d and this makes me wanna have it again! Thank you Nigel. Ivan, proud Patreon fan
I had an 80d earlier for my client work but recently i switched to 90d. This video really motivated me to get the most out of my 90d. Will definitely purchase your cinestyle luts very soon.
you know a lot of indie films are shot in 10bit 1080p still as shooting in 4k is expensive in file retention. storage is much cheaper than it used to be.
Also keep in mind if sensor size (which affects the look) is important to you. The apsc’s slightly larger 1.6x crop sensor versus the micro four thirds’ slightly smaller 2x crop sensor. Just my two cents.
And here I am lately falling in love with the 90D. I've been an avid Canon user since 2007 (mainly photography with the 30D, 40D, 60D, 70D, 6D and the 5DmkII). Bought the Sony a6300 and the Sony NX100 camcorder for film and looking at the Lumix S5IIx for the longest time. 😁
I've just recently started to try my hand at film-making with my 80D which I bought on sale during Covid, and I'm using the kit lens because it's stabilized. I have yet to make any interesting videos with it, but this video gives me confidence that I can do it with the gear that I have.
I got Canon 90D. Image is super sharp in 4K and if you using right lenses like samyang cinelenses or telezoom lenses, bokeh makes the image 9/10 if you got stabilization by gimbal or tripod. Slow motion 100fps is also decantly good if focused and lights are proper. Cameras might also have their own "tone" in colors and feel, and sometimes its enough to produce your story in artistic style, so not all high end consumer cameras are not necessary, because they more towards commercial corporate works etc.
Id say the biggest cameras that came out that made huge leaps forward were (in order): panasonic dvx100b / canon 5dmii / Pansonic gh2 / Canon 70d / Pansasonic gh4 / Sony a6300 / Sony a7siii
Great video! question I have a 200D (SL2) in your country. I would like to try shooting film with it; Is this possible? Which budget lens would you recommend for a decent background seperation? Does the SL2 work with cine-style and your amazing LUTS? I like the way you give "old" gear a second chance 👍
I’d try to save up like the extra 200-300 to get the GH5 best bang for your buck especially because of that IBIS and all the video codecs it brings 🎥 and it’ll future proof you better 🙏
I looked on the Internet for a used 80D body. It can be had for around 400 Euros. For the same price you can have a pristine GH4 that shoots 4K. OK, you won't have the Canon autofocus but the GH4 is packed with features the 80D doesn't have and even un HD the GH4 has a way sharper image.
Hello. I have a question that probably interests many of your viewers. Why do you insist that the camera must have good Full HD? Many people use 4K. But in addition to 4K, there should be high-quality Full HD, - you say. And some of the other video operators also say so. Please explain why?
Awesome Awesome video as always, the only thing I was hoping for was that those talking head bits were also filmed with the 80D. At first I thought holy . . .that image is the 80D, but then I was like no way that's 1080 xD Nice job regardless!!!
A6500 has a terrible Rolling shutter in 4k, it's one of the worst i see with any camera and 1080p is terrible, mushy, soft a look more like 720p or even worse.
Always a great time filming with you man. This camera has helped me experience some of the coolest opportunities in my life. Being a solid enough camera to let me film: college football, weddings full time, and short films. I am right there with you recommending this bad boy 🫡

My doctor just told me I have a 80D, can't wait!
bwahahaha

yea i pick up my 5Dii all the time
I feel that way abut a lot of old cameras I used to own!

I appreciate that Ivan!
I use the Sigma 18-35 with a T6i and love the way it looks. That lens is a definite value for the price.
I also use the T6i! It's my first camera :)
I agree the lens is probably what makes the camera look so good even today

The camera I would still pick up and use without hesitating is the Panasonic GH5. Love the 80D, but GH5 is an ageless wonder of a camera
I bought the GH5 when it came out and I still use it as my main camera.
i have been using a g85 and am thinking of getting a GH5 as well
Every time I use my Gh5 I feel at home😅
Got the GH5S, Lumix Gx85 & the 80D and let me tell you they are the best triple threat combo 🎥🙏📸
The GH5 is legendary
🔥🔥
Interesting thing is now all the youtubers you mentioned use the Sony A7SIII and the sony cine family
Great video! I’ve never used an 80d but have a 70d. I’m still using a t3i on my channel. Looking forward to trying out the new luts!

If the 5dmkii isnt on that list its incorrect😇
@@tjena ohh good call. The first video dslr!
No GH5?
@@Wildridefilms the gh4 brought 4k which was huge. the gh5 was nice but didnt have anything groundbreaking that hadnt been done before.
@@BarefootMediaTV It was the first 10 bit internal camera and also brought uncropped (oversampled) 4k60p.

I can tell you cine-style works with that camera. That camera is in my collection.
I really like to see you in lumix lab contributor luts
Your videos always ground me man 🤟
I love that you named the luts after PDX streets.
I need your opinion on this I want to purchase a camera for music and wedding videography. I had a lumix GH4 in mind what do you think?

@@omaralcantara1142 Well noted with lots of thanks 😊 I will surely save up for the GH5

Woah your just down 205 from me in Oregon City. Neato.
Awesome video again buddy
Once again, its proved that the camera doesn’t matter as much as we think it does
Gh7 is out..might uo grade to hg6 from gh5

I got a question. I have the old cinestyle lut pack and i love it. Is the pro Version a complete new pack or just an updated version of the first one?
completely new!
I kind of want to shoot a project with my 80D to see what its really capable of.
Awesome Awesome video as always, the only thing I was hoping for was that those talking head bits were also filmed with the 80D.

Only when you see the 80d in my hands, those shots were my S5IIX, all the other talking head shots were the 80D!
Try the gh5
I have

no wonder no one likes new cameras man. the old ones look better ;)
facts!

Bruh I think you mean the 5diii and then the 70d, 1080 24p, 720 60p, no headphone port, first with DPAF 🤝🏼🤝🏼 OG Canon DLSR video legends
I love shooting 5.7K Magic Lantern Raw Video on the Canon 5D Mark III.
a6500 makes more sense, it have FHD 120 and 4k and canon 80d don't have 4k
