Not necessarily. It can also be an opportunity for people to learn more about the real historical St. Nicholas. Better than the tooth fairy where there's not much going on behind it.

I only recently heard the story about St. Nicholas saving the three men who were about to be executed at the order of the corrupt official and MAN! That gave me flashbacks to another video you drew of another saintly bishop who ran across water to do the same. God is truly glorified in His Saints!

And I can't wait for my kids to grow up enough so I can teach them that even santa can go to jail.
In the version I knew, the Theotokos appeared to Nicholas himself in the middle of the night and the bishops released him upon actually seeing him in the prison with his episcopal garments

Hello, I was really happy that you did Saint Nicholas. I live in Beit Jala, Palestine and we have a church named after him and it was built on top of his "cave/house thing" , we also believe that he has done many miracles for us and will keep doing. Thank you a lot because Saint Nicholas is a big part of life here.

Boyan - on the second video on St Nicholas’s legacy please add info on why the saint is so revered in Russia. Few years ago, the pope allowed some major bone to be sent to Russia for a visit. The out pouring of the Russian people and the church priests and bishops was huge. Amazing!

Are the black halos (nega-halos, anti-halos?) you put on negative figures a thing in Orthodox iconography? If so are there rules on who gets them?
They are not used. There are a couple of instances of them being used in Western iconography for Judas. I liked the concept for my drawings but I don't think they should be used in official iconography.

I don't think it is getting very trendy Orthodoxy-wide, just to English-speaking audiences, and even there his scope is limited.
This is something the Church has already dealt with so I wouldn't be much concerned about it.
@@BibleIllustrated yeah, I definitely should take care not too view what happens in the anglosphere of Orthodoxy as the entire sphere of Orthodoxy. It does seem that even some hierarchs in the US espouse the view, but oh well.

I'm not fully orthodox yet but the only orthodox church in my town is a st.nicholas church
In Scandinavia we have not a nice Saint from Myra, we have his great grandfather "Tomten" who helped farmers and their animals as far back as in the pagan times. Tomten was with us long before Christianity existed. When Christianity came to us, we kept to our pagan friend Tomten. His name is so old that no one knows what the word means. So even today Tomten comes to the children every 24th of December. In Mid Winter the pagans celebrated the New Year by offer pigs blood to our pagan gods. And even today we eat pork every 24th of December. And we never started to call it "Christmas", we still have the pagan word "Jul" (Yule in English). But of course the Jesus Child plays a big role every year. So our celebration is mixed between pagan and christian. So Merry Christmas! (or God Jul = Good Yule!).

Is St. Nicholas of Myra an Orthodox or Catholic Bishop?
I can't find any evidence that proves him to be a Catholic or Orthodox...
Both Churches venerate this Saint, so I'm kinda confused.
He was an Eastern bishop who lived before the schism that divided the Catholic Church from the Eastern Orthodox Church. I don't think he has any extant writings in which he talks about the later controversies about the Filioque and papal primacy.
Each can claim him for their own, but he simply comes from the time when there were no such categories. ''Orthodox'' then meant ''non-Arian.''
St Nicholas lived when all christians were the same church. The church did not split until 700 years later ... after st Nicholas had died.

Children experience pain when they are hungry (that's why they cry), unlike adults, who can more or less ignore their hunger for a time. This sounds like one of the stories people made up in the century after the Apostles, like the Protoevangelium of James, which have a lot of gratuitous and unnecessary contents but which the people loved to hear. These stories are non-canonical, though I suppose it doesn't hurt to believe them. No offense.
