Saint Nicholas’ feast day is still celebrated on December 6th today by many people. Intercessory Prayer of St Nicholas for anyone who wants it:
      O good St. Nicholas,
you who are the joy of the children,
put in my heart the spirit of childhood,
      which the Gospel speaks,
      and teaches me
      to seed happiness around me.
      You, whose feast prepares us
      for Christmas,
open my faith to the mystery
      of Godmade man.
      You, good bishop and shepherd,
help me to find my place
      in the Church
      and inspire the Church
to be faithful to the Gospel.
      O good Saint Nicholas,
      patron of children,
      sailors and the helpless,
      watch over those who pray
to Jesus, your Lord and theirs,
as well as over those who
      humble themselves before you.
      Bring us all in reverence
to the Holy Child of Bethlehem,
      when true joy and peace
      are found. Amen.

After reading the title and watching this video, I'm even more confident in my belief about Santa being more than a person in red; he's a symbol (just like a superhero.)

Fun fact, Santa is actually a canonical character in both the DC and Marvel multiverse. In DC he's a complete badass who solos all of Apokolis on Christmas JUST to personally deliver a sack of coal to Darksied (the most evil and powerful supervillain in DC, basically the devil) every single year. In Marvel he's an Omega-Level Mutant, which if you didn't know Omega-Level Mutants are basically mutants so powerful that they are basically considered gods. Professor X and Scarlet Witch are some examples of Omega-Level Mutants.

it's really beautiful to see the genesis of one of the most beloved festive incarnations (I'm thinking of the Ghost of Christmas Present from Christmas Carol), I think it would be nice to also mention the origins of the other characters, not only Christmas but also those of other holidays (jack lantern: halloween, cupid: Valentine's Day and the Befana: epiphany = even if of Italian origin, but it could have been there), and perhaps "reveal" the secrets of Christmas fairy tales, such as the origins of the famous "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" as an example.
Maybe you've heard that beautiful song from "The Muppet Christmas Carol": "It Feels Like Christmas" sung by the Ghost of Christmas Present, I hope it can make You Feels Like Christmas!

Saint Nicolas or better known as Sinterklaas in the Netherlands is still celebrated here to this very day. Added stories and traditions. Changed a few around them as well. We celebrate it as long as the early 1600s and while he was born in Turkey in our story he resides in spain now. Comes over in a steam ship every year to stay 3 weeks over here with his chimney soot petes (roetveeg pieten). He brings candy with his helpers in shoes during his stay, visits schools, city centers and more.
On december 5th we have presents evening (pakjes avond) where he gives presents to celebrate his birthday and he leaves on december 6th...
The holiday is mostly loved and kids enjoy it the most. Its a holiday of anonymous giving which is absolutely beautifull.
We dl celebrate christmas as well but Santa is mostly seen as more fictional, after all, we do see Sinterklaas enter our country every single year on the news while the jolly santa isnt seen at all 😋

TL; DR sometimes kids say the coolest things….
My friend is a Buddhist, but his kids were raised Christian-ish. As such, his younger son is my Godson. (Episcopalian thing).
Once there was a party at his sisters house. His three kids, and three nieces were talking about time travel (from a UA-cam video they had seen).
A friend of his was visiting from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, who was a Tibetan Gomchan.
When one of his nieces asked the Gomchan about Christmas (it was December) the kids were entertained by an unbelievable story about how Santa Claus used time travel to stretch Christmas Eve over 360 days to deliver presents to good kids worldwide.
[The story took a while, and included cedar trees from Lebanon, as well as a reindeer herd in Norway.
It seemed like he had told versions of this story before].
My Godson was nine, and believed this story until about 12, or so. He would occasionally retell it to younger kids in his teens, often exaggerating parts to show he knew it was mythology.
PS. Why take 5/6 days off a year. Vacation ? No.
Santa apparently is a bodhisattva and won’t miss a yearly festival in Tibet (whose name I can’t remember).

there are a lot of legends of saints who did heroic deeds or preforming miracles, take for example St George that slew a dragon, Joseph of Cupertino power of flight or St Denis surviving post decapitation, there's many more especially in delaying martyrdom like St Lucy or St Margaret the virgin. In fact the process to be canonized a saint includes having performed miracles.

    • @ErinyHany-ve9lp
      @ErinyHany-ve9lp Рік тому

True, because how would we know if that person is ACTUALLY a saint or not ?,but st George slaying the dragon could be either: the dragon is the devil incarnated just like when he incarnated as a snake OR it's a creature that actually existed but medival times used to exaggerate words,OR it could be symbolic/these are also possibilities, saints are indeed heroes, even some acts were not legendary but heroic that actually happened I'm just saying this because I don't want anything attributed to saints to be "legends" like saints doing an act of charity or saving someone from death,I mean sure if miracles are "legends" and it's totally understandable to not believe in them unless you see one,but a saint giving people money, saving people from jail are not to be called legends these are just holy people doing god's work,st Nicholas though, somehow he turned into a man who broke into people's houses and eats their cookies and milk 😂😂

Mos Crăciun, brings gifts on Christmas eve.

Ancient Elf: "The Prophecy has come to pass, that there would come to us a Chosen One, and that he, having no child of his own, would love all children everywhere, and that he himself would be an artisan, and a craftsman, and a skilled maker of toys. [to Santa] And now, Chosen One, come forward. From this day on, now and forever, you will bring all our gifts to all the children in all the world, and all this to be done on Christmas Eve."
Santa Claus: "How can I do so much in just one night?"
Ancient Elf: "Well, know this: time travels with you. The night of the world is a passage of endless night for you, until your mission is done. This is your legacy, and your gift.... as is the gift of flight. Now, all those within the sound of my voice, and all those on this Earth everywhere know that henceforth, you will be called --- Santa Claus. And now, everyone, Merry Christmas."

In germany, or at least my region in germany, we still differentiate between St Nicolas and Santa Claus. We still practice the tradition of making little presents on the 6.12., and give more/bigger presents on the 24. or 25., which are brought by Santa Claus or little Jesus.
Actually, even in language, there is a bigger difference in german, as we call Saint Nicolas "Sankt Nikolaus", which is pretty similar, but Santa Claus is "der Weihnachtsmann", meaning the christmas man.
