There are "rappers" and there are "poets". Eminem is a "poet". There's a big difference between the two.
Honestly, when Eminem first came on the scene-- I thought he was a joke. I had him painted as some goof-dick comedian rapper-- like the Weird Al of hip-hop... that white dorks would listen to and say, "Look Mom, I'm listening to rap music." And then this song broke. Holy shit! It's hard to wrap my head around it. The Weird Al of rap makes a movie about his life and creates a signature song for the film... and neither suck??? As a matter of fact... the movie had heart and was above average and the song is a literal masterpiece? What world am I living in? It's like watching a McDonald's commercial that legitimately challenges your perspective of life.

Eminem was discovered in 1996'by a woman who was at a rap battle scouting for new talent...Em was only 22 at the time, the only white dude there, and even he came in 2nd place, most people who've listened to the entire battle say that the only reason Em didn't win was because he's white.....in 1997 he recorded a mix tape that has some of the dopest lyrics he ever recorded.....
Never mind about Rap, this song in its own right is one of the greatest song's of all time.I would not consider myself a Rap fan, but this song is so motivational, i just love it and consider it a masterpeace in song writing.Eminem is a musical genius the lyrics he can put together to tell a story just blows me away.

What I like it is the hook you got one chance to blow : its an inverse because he is not talking about making the shot , he is talking about taking the shot. WInners want the ball. What is great about it is he is not talking about being successful, he is talking about just taking the chance. A lot of songs say take the shot and youwill be successful , this is saying you want the chance to put it all out there and then whatever happens you say I took the chance.
