I remember they held senate hearings to try to shut him down and Aftermath/ Interscope were heavily picketed and so were his concerts, love the reaction
It's one of the reasons he became a sheeple using leftist narrative talking points. I've heard him dissing white gun owners & lost respect for the dude! He became a puppet for the Democrats.
When Eminem came to England I think in 2002 I seen him in concert - he had a protest outside from people wanting him banned then also. Of course he wasn’t, came on stage with a mask and chainsaw and the rest is history
Come on. Dre knew exactly what he was doing. He was one of the architects of NWA and Gangster Rap. When he found Em he knew exactly what he had. And I thank him for it.
I don't think even Dre knew how fire Em would be. He knew there was something there, ofc, but there is no way he could see what Em is today. He produced Mary J. Blige, Eve, Ice Cube etc. That's a decent catalog already and he was obviously able to recognize talent when he saw it. But I don't Dre ever imaged that Em would blow up like he did from the first single and everything that came after that.
Ever heard the demo tape he sent to Dre (u can find it on YT if not - recommend it!)? To sign him was a null-brainer. Like, realy, the credit Dre gets is way overblown. Dre is one of the greatest, no question. But Eminem even at that time was already a polished diamond.
Hes saying when no one knew him, being white held him back, no one wanted to sign him, but when he blew up all the white kids started bumpin that hip hop, all the parents shit like what is this
Bc at first when hip hop was 99% black music and a white boy stepped on stage ppl didn’t want to listen then once he started to blow up it got white ppl intrigued to see a white person dominating the genre
The Eminem Show album was my birthday present from my mother when I was 15, my father was not a fan initially and my mother said "just wait" & sing for the moment was on every radio station and literally remember my father coming home from work & saying "I get it now, he has something to say". I'm from nsw australia, and I was Nine inch nail's(Trent Reznor is god) & LINKIN PARK....so the volatility of this song always kept with me, my mother and I literally spent every lockdown breaking down Eminem's albums I probably ruined my point there, but he's one of the reason's I'm still alive xx
This was the time when Tipper Gore, our vice presidential first lady and US Congress were trying to find anything to blame for the violence in America at the time. This happened around the time of Columbine massacre. They tried to blame rap music heavy metal and video games and violence in movies. They never thought to question mental health, or bullying. They still don't bother to question it as much as they should. Em stood tall through all that and came out even better than the government. He's one of the loudest voices of my generation, and yet his words reverberate through all generations.
PMRC created by Tipper Gore started in 1985 when they started blaming violence and sex in music for bad behavior from kids. Before gangster rap and Em. Congress did of course harass Them later around the Columbine shooting though. Funny how the PMRC got the parental advisory label put on the albums but it only boosted sales lol.
The problem they really had with em was his influence on the White kids , its cool as long as rap stays in the hood but when it came to white suburbs thru em it became a ”problem”
It was his influence on the white suburbs that did it. Em in the trailer park wasn't that big a deal for the powers that be. It wasn't just the fact that white kids listened to his music but the particular white kids. Poor white kids loved Em from the jump.
Facts, he exposed the hypocrisy of white America and white privilege and the government got involved. He was protested by Tipper Gore, Al Gore’s wife and Liz Chaney the BP’s fam. He was expressing his anger towards white privilege and hypocrisy.
Wasn’t even really that so much as him pointing out inequality to the white kids. Showing them that the country isn’t standing by its own constitution. When they can’t pin us against each other they fall because we notice their flaws. Ignorance is only bliss when you’re the one inducing the ignorance. The government hates that he is helping people see the problems with our government. And that’s also the reason this song is called “white america” because it’s actually a government built for white people, to aid the white people and keep the African American community oppressed and pinned against the white community. And the reason they are systematically doing that to Americans is because if we are fighting with each other we don’t notice how they’re fucking up the country. And that’s the problem.
Of course. Whyts have standards. Listen to what he's actually saying. "whyts don't like it when artists glorify and teach their children to like crime, hurting woe-meyn and children, gang-lifestyles, and drugs. But the blayk community loves it and has no problems with it." It's not an indictment on whyt culture for him to say this. It's not "whyt america's" fault that blayk parent[s] tend to be absolute crap. Funny, though, he's trying to say the whyts are bad and the ghetto blayks are good for being shyt parents and having no expectations/standards/restrictions/limits. Riiiight. I like Eminem, but this message was just retarded childish angst crap that aged about as well as milk in the sun. Still has a great beat.
In the 90s when this stuff came out, it didn't matter the color of your skin...we all listened to it. It crossed boundaries once thought to be impossible to cross. Dr. Dre and Eminem definitely changed the narrative of rap music forever. Was so good!!!
7:10 Em is just acknowledging that Dre gave him the credibility he needed to crack open the black rap fanbase. In return, Em introduced the white rap fanbase to Dre. The symbiosis between the two of them 100% both made Em who he is today and brought Dre back into the spotlight as a producer after he split from Death Row and started Aftermath.
I swear, I was never big into Eminem when i was younger, but now that I'm grown up (and lets face it, finally have taste) and know how good he is it's like every song i hear of his i respect him more. GOAT.
I grew up in south Chicago heights as a white boy in the ghetto. I knew what hip-hop / rap was from listening with all my childhood buddies. Then we moved to rensselaer indiana and nobody listened to rap. Within 2 years of living there everybody listened to rap because the emergence of Eminem. He made white people feel like they could now be part off hip hip culture. He really did open a whole new world and he knew it. Thats why 9 times out of ten a white person will say Eminem is their favorite rapper cause the impact he had for us. He broke the wall that had been there forever and now white people could be part of something special. He even referenced how his skin was working to his benifit because before he blew up he was judged and outed simply for being white "rap culture was a little racist to white folks" so thanks also to Dr dre for actually looking past his skin tone. Breaking walls shattering boundaries and bringing people together.
It's true Dre albums were not saleing when he left Death Row and when he signed Em he helped him to get back to hardcore hip hop they helped each other
They "hated" Eminem because he was the first Major white rapper to reach such a wide audience, especially youth (8 to 18) and I literally remember being 10 to 11 years old, and having to go to a school meeting several times in the Auditorium, for a PSA to students about his music and I quote "It's repulsive, and obscene nature" and they would suspend any of us found with his CD's in School. So your husband is definitely right! They tried to prevent him from hitting his own demographic.
If it makes you feel better they did the same thing with us over Two live Crew and NWA , kids use to get sent home if they had an NWA shirt, we would carve it in desks, and pass lyrics like secret notes.
I'm a little late to the party but this is one of those songs that can be misinterpreted easily, the whole song is a metaphor/bar basically. He's acknowledging why he blew up, which was dope and mocking "white america"...dope reaction love how you guys talk about it
I think that's 50% of the song's message, the self awareness about why he's got the reach that he has. The other 50% is about the double standards of white picked fence society critizising him more even though there is other rappers out there with just as "strong" lyrics. After no one literally gave a fuck about him in the past because he was a white dude in the game. Just my 2 cents though.
Oh man y'all! If my mom knew that I was listening to Eminem in elementary school and at my friend's house, she would have grounded me for listening to "Inappropriate" rap. Obviously, I was a rebel and didn't really tap in to the lyrics because I didn't really understand them. Perhaps that's what my mom was trying to protect me from. Til this day she still doesn't know. Am I going to bring it up? Hell no! Haha! Anyways, love that y'all reacted to and analyzed this song because listening to these lyrics, I understand. It brings a whole new perspective as an adult. Peace and love! Sending y'all positive vibes!
So I got this CD uncensored for my 12th or 14th bday (I swear it was right when it came out, but I would've only been 12). I am white Hispanic, but I don't look Hispanic at all. From this perspective, I 100% jammed to this song. Em was my introduction to rap. I went and sought NWA and 50 and Pac and everybody because i saw Em on TRL. I was little Erica, a young white suburban kid who saw a cute guy and begged her parents for the CD and got it. My dad knew who Em was and grew up on rap. He got it because he wanted to listen to it too and could pass it off like a gift lol. I raided his CDs to listen to more rap ETA - he is also speaking to the fear white America had of him. He was corrupting their children. He was introducing them to rap and hip hop. He was infiltrating the airwaves to pollute their children's minds. He looked like them, so they related to him and bought his music.
I’m here for ALL Eminem reactions.. he’s the most amazing artist to ever grace a microphone!! I relate to him on so many levels and have over the last 25 years..
When Asia says "Is he saying he brought Dre back up with his white fans" YES.. He is saying EXACTLY that. BUT he is also saying that he gained a lot of black fans just because he was produced by Dre, so it was a 2 way street.
Eminem look goddamn Legend of iconic legend he talks about everything I do for every ways when America doesn't respect that black race them off Eminem talks about that on this song that's why everyone has respectful Eminem in the rap game and in general and everyone needs Eminem's opinion Eminem and dr. Dre all the kings of the rap game everything goes on this thing and they put in 50% of the money in Interscope the big record label and Eminem owns Shady Records and aftermath
Dre was at a low in his career when he found Eminem. Eminem got Dre back to the top of his success. More money than Dre ever made. But Dre’s co-sign gave Em credibility.
It’s really ironic. He’s telling you he couldn’t get signed because he was looked at as a “White boy rapper” then once Dre signed him the fact he was white and could actually rap worked in his favor massively specially with suburban white kids. I mean the beastie boys and MC Serch were the only white dudes I rocked with prior to Eminem so he really blew peoples minds.
Actually, some did try to take him off the airwaves. The FCC threatened a radio station in Colorado with fines for playing the clean version of The Real Slim Shady
Did anyone notice that “Eric” and “Erica” are both in AmERIC(A)? BARS! I love this song. Show those hypocrites!! Also, the balls on Em to have the audio of two planes flying across right after 9/11. That’s super hard.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥; as a white male, I never listened to rap until I heard Cleanin out my closet......song was so good, I bought The Eminem Show CD, and this is the 1st song off the album. Mind you, I never heard swearing in any of my previous music, and then...."I never would've dreamed in a million years I'd see so many MF'in people....." was like whoa! I'm lucky that my 1st contact with rap was purchasing one of the top rap albums of all time. After that, I bought all his stuff, and branched out to the genre as a whole. Would never have been exposed if not for the goat. Love the channel, and was fun af to watch Asia on this reaction 😊
I was at trl in 2001 standing in a crowd of people that stretched 13 blocks it was an epic moment in hip hop history for sure i still have the pictures from it also
Eminem references the parallel to Elvis and converting something that was initially Black music to music for everyone. But the same happened with Jazz about 20 years before that. Which makes it a pattern. Black Culture originates, some white kids, especially poor white kids growing up in proximity to Black communities get exposed to it and one with talent helps it break big to white audiences. Now both Jazz and Rock are seen as music for old white people.
Eminem definitely brought different energy when he's on TRL 😂 He's funny, entertaining, energetic, and didn't talk shyly like most artists at the time.
Em had everyone coming at him during the first 6 or so years of his career. From parent groups, the catholic church, LGBT groups, family members, other rappers, the FCC, and Congress. Im glad I grew up during peak Em
Same. I remember listening to him as a kid as albums came out, he was a big deal for some groups and quite controversial. It was so cool hearing these songs as they came and seeing that stuff happen when it did was crazy. This is one of my favorite songs.
I am white from a small town. I grew up on run dmc, nwa, and after I was all about dr Dre chronic album when he introduced snoop. Dre introduced me to em in music. I think that’s what em meant by Dre having as many white fans as em had black fans. Just my personal opinion. Absolutely love your guys reactions!! Much love!
Em is saying that race can work for you and against you. It helped his sales when he became famous but his race worked against him because no one wanted to sign him
I was one of the few white kid listening to nwa and a lot of people would dismiss rap music but once people started listening to Em they actually listened to other rap and enjoyed suddenly everyone one liked rap was crazy
You are right, but you are missing some points he's making : 1-Because he was white he was ignored by hip hop, the color of his skins didn't favor, 2- When he blew up America was concerned as he spoke to white kids, while black rapper could not, so they didn't care Love u guys
Not about privilege, it’s all about fan base! He introduced so many more people to hip hop! The government didn’t like that he was transcending race with rap.
I just don’t get why people hate on Eminem, everyone that hates on Eminem they are just racist, and they just don’t want to admit that he is one of the Greatest Rappers to ever touch a mic…
@@EpickaNESSiskool Well most of the time the argument people give when they say he ain't the goat they say 'because he white, rap is for blacks' that's just racist, come with real arguments or don't speak at all.
yup thats me a White man racist against white men, i guess... M&M is a punk, he ONLY does exactly what he is told to do, nothing more and nothing less or he and his family are toast. Thats what happens when you sign on the dotted line.
I was in the 8th-grade grade going to be a freshman in high school when Eminem first came into the scene. People have been trying to cancel Eminem for the last 21 years. From politicians, GLAD(Gay, lesbian, and I forgot what the last letter stood for) to a bunch of different groups of people trying to stop Eminem's career, but Marshall is still here. Most rappers at the age of almost 50 would have retired by now, but not Eminem, he is still at the top of his game. Eminem not only keeps up with these up-and-coming artists, and in most cases can smoke these new school"rappers". Since day one Eminem came out onto MTV I as a new hip-hop artist I never cared what color of skin he had. For me it's was what Eminem could spit as an MC. Sure Eminem may get away with rapping about sensitive topics(or the topics you shouldn't talk about) mainly because no one tried to rap about these sensitive topics before Eminem. Most rappers would say, you can't rap about the president." Eminem more or less said" Why not?" and proceeded to do so anyway. Em has always pushed the bar further and further away and made it possible for other rappers to not be afraid to express themselves as an artist. To say that Eminem hasn't done anything for hip-hop needs to check themselves because you know that is a lie. You don't have to like Eminem as an artist and that's your choice to do so, but you got to respect Eminem impact that he made in the game.
That sequence of bars was saying Eminem was ignored by rap labels until Dre heard his demo and looked past his race. Dre is the reason people know who Eminem is.
if you listen to first few records there was quite a few blank spots in a lot of songs, cause the record label was editing them after he turned the completed songs in also.
Em speaks the truth and calls out hypocrisy and just wants us to all get along and work together no matter skin colour or who we love or religion. He gets it that in the end we are all human and thats what we should focus on and care about.
I remember. I am a metalhead, and love Motown. I don't like most rap. Public Enemy, N.W.A., Dayton Family, Tupac, and Eminem are about the extent of rap artists that I actually like as a whole. When Em was on TRL; was the only time I would tune in, just to see what he would do next. That was about the same time MTV quit being about music.
A bit of the first verse is that he was considered “trailer trash” for the first 20 years of his life. Why even after he got a record deal, he still felt like an outsider with mainstream White America.
Great line regarding the history of em at the time is the "fuck you Ms. Cheeny" the wife of Dick Cheeny, held a full press conference for the sole purpose of telling Eminem what he can't say. All while her husband was holding a hearing in congress for the same reason. Like "who the hell are you Ms. Cheeny? You don't like my music to the point of holding a press conference? Fuck you"
Eminem reminds me of John Lennon. A rare person that comes along and just don´t bullshit anymore. Just raw brutal truths, and not folding to the establishment.
Y'all's channel is awesome. You don't care what it is, what genre it is or what color of the person is. Being a 54 year old white guy I feel the same way. Let's get all colors to sit down together And make peace. Let's face it, the government doesn't care about anyone outside the government no matter what color you are. So let's band together and let them see we are ALL AMERICANS. Keep doing what you're doing cause it's awesome.band Asia, you can damn sure sing. Why haven't I been able to buy your record yet?? Mad love
Eminem is not referring himself to b privileged but rather unwanted in this hiphop scene coz of his color.... but coz of his talent and dr dre's acceptance of his talent beyond his skin, he got a chance... and he is very self awarethat heconnected with the audience immediately coz he was like one of them... white with blue eyes so it somehow helped him in this success... thats y he says if he was black he would have sold half coz he knows he might had been lost jn all d other greats but his skin color has started to work to his advantage...
It's funny it was my daughter who introduced me to Eminem the song was called think my Dad's gone crazy from then on I really enjoy Eminem thanks for taking me back and it is sad you can't speak your mind in front of people for a fear of backlash I do it all the time cuz I just don't care thank you for your reaction
I remember they held senate hearings to try to shut him down and Aftermath/ Interscope were heavily picketed and so were his concerts, love the reaction
Yep... they had Chaney and Gore's wives heading the picket lines.
Same old ladies tried to do the same to the rock n roll scene in the 80s.
It's one of the reasons he became a sheeple using leftist narrative talking points.
I've heard him dissing white gun owners & lost respect for the dude!
He became a puppet for the Democrats.

Joe Rogan once said "What is the point of having F-you money, if you never say F-you?"
Eminem embodies this phrase for me

Mosh. That’s another em classic
Definitely. And both videos are awesome IMO.

When Asia says "Is he saying he brought Dre back up with his white fans" YES.. He is saying EXACTLY that. BUT he is also saying that he gained a lot of black fans just because he was produced by Dre, so it was a 2 way street.
He chose Eric and Erica from Am"eric"a because they are common white names in middle class america everything for a reason
Hell of a breakdown and understanding the bigger meaning behind the song. The best breakdown of this song thus far. Great job.
Classic song! From the beat to the lyrics!
You guys are both so smart, love listening to you guys break it down
Dre was at a low in his career when he found Eminem. Eminem got Dre back to the top of his success. More money than Dre ever made. But Dre’s co-sign gave Em credibility.
It’s not like Dre was falling off though. His label just didn’t want him anymore. The Firm went double platinum in the late 90s.
That’s super hard.
woah
Em has always been self aware early on. That was crazy to witness at the time
This is my favourite Eminem song, its so good.
Dre was almost done when he signed Em. The industry had turned its back on him. He was almost over. Look up interviews with Dre about it.
Can no one f*** with Eminem lyrically! It's really not even a competition
i remember during his 2nd and 3rd album they were definitely trying to take him off the air ways. he use to be on mtv and cnn.
Her reaction to this song is everything great about reaction videos. Thank you for the video
BJ said, 'hot diggity dog'. That made my day
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥; as a white male, I never listened to rap until I heard Cleanin out my closet......song was so good, I bought The Eminem Show CD, and this is the 1st song off the album.
Remember at that award show n he had all the slim shady come in when he did the real slim shady it was historical
I was at trl in 2001 standing in a crowd of people that stretched 13 blocks it was an epic moment in hip hop history for sure i still have the pictures from it also
You missed how he said I'm SHOVELIN' IT ON .... WHITE AMERICAAAAAA
This song will always be my favorite. 🔥🔥👍🏼
Much love!
I really enjoy your videos! Love Eminem! Nice, insightful sharing of thoughts. Especially the one at around 3 mins
Em is saying that race can work for you and against you. It helped his sales when he became famous but his race worked against him because no one wanted to sign him
Love this song 🎶
I was one of the few white kid listening to nwa and a lot of people would dismiss rap music but once people started listening to Em they actually listened to other rap and enjoyed suddenly everyone one liked rap was crazy
You are right, but you are missing some points he's making : 1-Because he was white he was ignored by hip hop, the color of his skins didn't favor, 2- When he blew up America was concerned as he spoke to white kids, while black rapper could not, so they didn't care Love u guys
60 year-old white woman here, and this is one of my all-time favorite Em songs.
Amaz 🔥 Reaction! THX’s❤️🔥
Not about privilege, it’s all about fan base! He introduced so many more people to hip hop! The government didn’t like that he was transcending race with rap.
You guys missed when he said at the very end.
"Im playing know I love you" lol
I just don’t get why people hate on Eminem, everyone that hates on Eminem they are just racist, and they just don’t want to admit that he is one of the Greatest Rappers to ever touch a mic…
I like Em, but just because you don't think he's the GOAT, that doesn't make you racist. lmao yall Stans are weird
@@EpickaNESSiskool Well most of the time the argument people give when they say he ain't the goat they say 'because he white, rap is for blacks' that's just racist, come with real arguments or don't speak at all.
@@idc9419 nah barely anyone points to that except for dudes like Jamar. Most people just wouldn't put Em in front of Hov, Nas, Pac, BIG, etc
yup thats me a White man racist against white men, i guess... M&M is a punk, he ONLY does exactly what he is told to do, nothing more and nothing less or he and his family are toast. Thats what happens when you sign on the dotted line.
@@DanJunkins he's a punk???? Why are you listening to him
I was in the 8th-grade grade going to be a freshman in high school when Eminem first came into the scene.
Love your reactions ✌🏼 greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Asia lookin beautiful!
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 my mom lost her mind when I was listening to Em back in the day
A bit of the first verse is that he was considered “trailer trash” for the first 20 years of his life. Why even after he got a record deal, he still felt like an outsider with mainstream White America.
10:57 😂 her expression change is amazing!!!!
Fuck you"
In the 90$ i was listening to Dre ,snoop ,cube,Pac n my white homie got me into Eminem ,from aussie
One of the best explanations I have ever heard. Bravo.
‘ shoveled shit all my life now I’m dumping it!!!’….golden!!
Eminem reminds me of John Lennon. A rare person that comes along and just don´t bullshit anymore. Just raw brutal truths, and not folding to the establishment.
Yall should do Castle and Arose back to back on that order.
Great reaction guys
At the end yall missed "in just playing America, you know I love you" lmao🤣
Em is the best lyrisist the world has ever seen - No-one comes close
He was only something like 28 when he wrote this song. So prolific.
"hot diggity dog"
took the words right outta my mouth LOL
Y'all's channel is awesome. You don't care what it is, what genre it is or what color of the person is. Being a 54 year old white guy I feel the same way. Let's get all colors to sit down together And make peace. Let's face it, the government doesn't care about anyone outside the government no matter what color you are. So let's band together and let them see we are ALL AMERICANS. Keep doing what you're doing cause it's awesome.band Asia, you can damn sure sing. Why haven't I been able to buy your record yet?? Mad love
One of my favorite songs 🎵❤
N that Nas & Em bout to drop tomorooo 🔥🔥
Eminem is not referring himself to b privileged but rather unwanted in this hiphop scene coz of his color.... but coz of his talent and dr dre's acceptance of his talent beyond his skin, he got a chance... and he is very self awarethat heconnected with the audience immediately coz he was like one of them... white with blue eyes so it somehow helped him in this success... thats y he says if he was black he would have sold half coz he knows he might had been lost jn all d other greats but his skin color has started to work to his advantage...
Eminem was the reason we have explicit lyrics warnings.
Y’all need to check out Eminem’s “Untouchable” next.
Thank you guys. real shit
Dre helped him be accepted in the black community and Em helped Dre expand his fan base. They're great friends.
Love y’all videos. New subscriber. Look forward to many more.
Yep, that part!
Love you guys next patiently waiting
Ahh i died at “f you and the hole you came outta” I am so stealing that! 😂
Em been woke forever...
What do you mean by that? Are you a hater or something
