      Yes! My hematologist told me to be patient for the number to go down, as it took 66 years for this to build up. Really? No one noticed it before?? I was finally diagnosed because my GP saw that my liver enzymes were high. I had an ultra sound and an MRI to check for liver damage. I also had some exhaustion and my knees started feeling strange (later read joint issues are common). I felt like I had aged 20 years in 6 months. As far as I can find, I am the only one in my family that has this. Lucky me!! 🤔

      @@ItsMeCheryl1231 Many are misdiagnosed for genetics. For the liver enzymes I recommend you research Milk Thistle , Choline , TUDCA, Dandelion. The liver is the only organ that self repairs. See a functional medicine doctor to figure out the root cause as sometimes it's caused by other things . General doctors don't connect dots unfortunately like functional medicine doctors . Best wishes

    I was diagnosed with Hemochromatosis about a year ago. I was at over 1200. It was found in a yearly blood test. I have been having phlebotomies to bring the iron count down. My symptoms were exhaustion and knee pain. I didn't have the skin discoloration or spoon nails. I'm not sure if I tan easily, as I haven't in the past, and have stayed out of the sun for the most part. After almost a year of phlebotomies, I am FINALLY in the normal range. My hematologist said it is hereditary. I got the gene from both parents. I have contacted as many of my family members as I could, but so far, I am the only 'lucky' one. Once my Dr. says I am at a level she is comfortable with, I only need to donate blood about 3 - 4 times a year.

      @@TerryManitoba Normal is between 10 and 235. I was at 189 and she wanted me to be a bit lower. I had 3 more phlebotomies in June. I just had a blood test last Monday (9/18) when I went for my yearly GP visit. I had a blood test and was at 149 that day. I will have another test in November and will see the hematologist on 11/22.

    Was diagnosed with hemochromatosis quite a few years ago and treated for it with the blood draws up tell 2020 when covid hit. For a year no blood draws where happening for the obvious reason and i moved so i changed hospitals. The first blood draw at the new hospital i got my levels and was surprised because they were near identical to the year before which should have been impossible.
    So after much fighting with the system i got access to me hospital records online and quickly realized the numbers were not adding up.
    Called my hematologist at the time and was going to tell her but she was busy tell me what she thought without asking a single question i realized it was pointless talking to her.
    Talked to my family doctor who likely thought i was crazy and stopped seeing the hematologist as my doctor monitored my blood work.
    After about six months the monitoring stopped as it became clear i did not have hemochromatosis.
    It's been two and half years going on three and my iron levels have never been high once and infact were close to abnormally low at one point for reasons unknown.
    This is of course medically impossible for someone with hemochromatosis although the irony is i do have the h63d mutation if not hemochromatosis itself.
    I am just a tad pissed off about that.

    My husband has high ferritin, hemoglobin and hematocrit levels…he has been seen a hematologist for the past couple of months and she has tested him for everything and all tests are negative. She has tested for hemochromatosis, epo level, jak2, calr, mpl, blood cancers..he also had an echo of the heart, lung xray, and had his oxygen levels test overnight since he has sleep apnea and ALL good. She said it may be idiopathic so he is going for his first phlebotomy on June 16 to see if that helps the levels. Crazy!

    I have hemochromatosis & it’s b/c we lack the enzyme needed to excrete iron from the body. We absorb normally - we just can’t get rid of it except by bleeding. Normal people can do it multiple ways. I am actually anemic right now, even with hemochromatosis. My ferritin is 3 😮 & I’m receiving iron infusions.

    10:00 eating a lot of fortified food like cereal, plus the right things can get you close if not in excess of the cap. I’ve run the numbers on my vegan diet that includes cereal, pasta, and legumes, and found that it’s almost something to watch as even a bit of supplementation would take me over the recommended limit, and I exceed the limit without supplementation some days. The cereals alone can be enough if one is reckless as they can have supplement levels of iron in a single serving.

      I suggest you seek a functional medicine doctor and do a liver ultrasound and check your liver through blood test also . Improving your liver can help with Milk Thistle, Choline, Curcumin, NAC . Alpha Lipoic Acid can help with chelating metals out
      If you can afford do a heavy metals hair sample test . The gut could be the root cause like SIBO infection which hinders normal gut function then pressures the liver and then more iron roaming around . Best wishes

  • @lesblake41
    @lesblake41 7 місяців тому +2

    No mention of blood tests. Does that mean that iron overload cannot be diagnosed by blood work ? I test for ferritin, transferrin saturation, TIBC etc but my doctor insists I don't have Iron Overload My symptoms are: severe fatigue, minor stains on some areas of skin, sometimes painful fingers, erectile dysfunction and loss of libido. Local red cross will not do phlebotomy because of my age.

    • @Total_Body_Fitness_USA
      @Total_Body_Fitness_USA 5 місяців тому +2

      If your ferritin is less than 100ng/mL then you need iron. I don't just go by TIBC with my own clients. If your ferritin is indeed high, then check to make sure you don't have hemochromatosis. Check for HD63 and/or C282Y SNPs through a saliva DNA test that can be done at ancestry or 23andme. There are other places as well that can check this. Also, elevated ferritin can be caused by inflammation as well. Do a HS-CRP test to confirm.

      A 5 ferritin will result in massive negative symptoms. Make sure you take copper as well considering you are not allergic or have Wilson's Disease. Copper is responsible for iron transport into ferritin. A teaspoon of cod liver oil also gives you the other co-factors needed to raise ferritin levels. Hope you are better!

    Very interesting! Two of my friends (one had two strokes and died from this!) have had this, so when I developed that coloration, I saw my PCP! Turned out, I was anemic, BUT I had recently started taking astaxanthin as an antioxidant. Astaxanthin is apparently made from red algae, and that coloring was being passed into the fat layer under my skin! During the very thorough exam that I had, along with a multitude of blood tests, it was found that the astaxanthin was collecting in my liver and kidneys, causing my urine to look like coffee and my liver enzymes to go completely off the charts! For some strange reason, I can’t tolerate even a small dose of astaxanthin and now use EGCG (from green tea) as an antioxidant, instead!

    My head has been consistently itchy for about three years and my hair is falling out and thinning rapidly. I'm also quite tired all the time. My heart beats irregularly sometimes and even wakes me up from a dead sleep, I have patches of discolored skin (scarring) that is growing, but that was diagnosed as morphea from a specialist.... My ferratin is 576 ug/L which my doctor says is fine (although the internet says that is high)....Any suggestions out there? Does this sound like hemochromatosis? Need help, can't stop itching.

    Okay so how is it possible to have anemia, (iron deficiency) but also have an iron overload? I’ve only had an iron transfusion 3 time and not back to back either… but I began to start having elevated liver enzymes and pancreatic enzymes after my first transfusion, which fluctuates. I just had an MRI done which now states I have iron deposits in both my spleen and liver🤦🏽‍♀️ and had a liver biopsy back in September that stated I had a liver injury but no medication I was on was a cause for it! And I don’t take supplements either sooo what does that mean?
