      Wow, thanks man! I'm glad you guys didn't take this video as me "dunking" on the WNBA. I'm a believer in the league. I just can't support the players' level of condescension, entitlement, and dishonesty, especially because it's coming from grown adults. That's probably the biggest thing holding the league back too.

    • @ronomgenuff
      @ronomgenuff 2 роки тому +39

      @@TREESEhoops bro no way, this is one of the most fair videos I've heard on the topic. The truth is that sports are a business and that usually if a business can't find a market it flops. It's so weird that the league will find every reason to blame for their lack of success besides the product. The NBA has changed so much over the years in ways that many fans hate, but the changes bring in views which ultimately = money. I think if the WNBA player were more realistic about the root causes of their shortcomings they could also change their product and see more success!

      @@TREESEhoops 100% agree, I feel the same way. I remember a black female anchor on ESPN recently out and out BLAMING BASKETBALL FANS for not watching it, calling it sexist etc. Exactly like what you said. A wake-up call really *is* needed.

      Don’t let the WNBA fans (I say fans and not feminists because there’s a lot of reasonable and non biased feminists out there) hear you say that a video criticizing the WNBA is fair logical and supported by statistics. They’ll attack you and call you a woman hating misogynist incel. They don’t like hearing the truth about why the league is a failure and just blame men as being sexist instead 😂😂😂

    I remember when the WNBA began and it had TONS of advertising and television coverage. But, as time passed, it became clear that very few people were watching it. The sad truth is that virtually all of the people saying that they should be paid more aren't going to games or watching. And we know because we have the numbers.
    Like you said, the league needs to do some honest self reflection and start taking steps to improve their product. Laying blame on consumers is always a losing strategy and alienates a lot of potential customers.

      The WNBA started out strong but fell off as more people figured out what it was. The NBA started out relatively unpopular but grew significantly as it aged and grew marketable stars. That situation is a mirror for how society views men and women. Women start out on top when it comes to value simply because they are young, attractive females-and they can either capitalize on it or decline. Men start out with relatively little worth and are only valued for what they can build.

      @Mark Lester Gatchalian they need to do more than that, they need to turn it into a different sport. Look at softball, the WCWS gets more views annually than the CWS, why is that? It's because softball is more fast paced than baseball. Women aren't as strong or as fast or have the reaction time as quick as men, so they make the ball bigger and yellow, pitch underhand, bases closer, fence much closer to allow HRs...you watch softball and you don't see inferior athletes playing the same game as the men, you see an entirely different game. Imagine if they decided no more softball and they had to play on a field like the men, with reg baseballs? It would be painfully obvious that the product is not as good. I watched a video of Britney griner doing an interview where she misses 3 dunks....BG has a standing reach of 9ft2in and her vertical is so shit that she struggles to dunk? That's crazy

    I’ll go to a WNBA game only if I get free parking, hotdog, nachos, and a coke with my ticket purchased at 50% off. 🎉

      It isn't just that. The ad revenue for the men far surpasses ad revenue for the WNBA. Why? Because no one watches the WNBA.

      @@M7awesat The WNBA brings is squat for ad revenue. They bring in squat for apparel and concession sales. The product doesn't sell. The only reason the WNBA is in business is because the NBA subsidizes it.

    And what people often forget is that in 1972, NBA were still apart from ABA (American basketball asociation) and the two were competing for fans, revenue and players. They merged both leagues together in 1976. So yeah, not only the NBA were not funded by any other league 25 years in, they were competing with another league at the time.

    The WNBA gets tons of promotion. ESPN features it on the front page of it's website constantly, puts news stories about WNBA players over more relevant stories, they get promoted during NBA season games when it's their off-season. Marketing isn't an issue, because they are over marketed based on demand and interest. They keep getting more and more marketing while they get less popular. They're simply a charity league.

    Bruh, I live in Vegas, and I drive Uber part-time. I have over 12k rides over 5 years. In all my years of seeing people from all over the world, I've never seen a single person wear WNBA merchandise of any kind. Not even a wristband. I watched one game on TV ever, I fell asleep because it was so slow. I didn't even make it to half time.

    Well, some good points. The conundrum for WNBA is how can they steer their audience away from bone headed shows like the Bachelorette and Kardashians and toward an athletic, merit based sport?

    And then it just drops after 1998 after he was done and then comes back again when he join the NBA again. One man basically.
