Should always turn a crescent wrench with the moving jaw on the inside of the turn. Why not use naval jelly to remove the rust, rather than an abrasive? With all of the shxt in the forks, maybe the fork seals were bad? Forks should be rebuildable. What a waste to throw it away a whole fork because you can't buy new fork seals. I'd rather rebuild a fork than buy a new one for $200. It is incredibly stupid if a fork cannot be left in the rain. Bikes are not for sunny days only.

To improve the performance of the zoom fork, you need to throw it in the trash and install a rigid fork. The zoom fork does not provide shock absorption, it only enhances all the road irregularities due to the lack of damping.
