    For those commenting about how a Mazda shouldn’t be on this trail, I agree, this was not a good trail for it. Fortunately, I do now have a lift kit installed for an additional 2”, I’ve taken off-road recovery courses, have recovery gear, have underbody protection, and have traveled hundreds of miles off-road. I have found my vehicle limits and can be happy with what I *can* do. I hope people take away from this is that going out there and enjoying nature with good peeps in whatever you have is good enough.

      That is what I like about the off-road community. Everyone is eager to help others. At least the Mazda owner knows what he is getting into and is prepared for it. Everyone helping each other and it looked more fun and added good memories to me.

    I was ready to groan about the Mazda, but then I looked at it form another angle. He is getting out there, trying new things and seeing more than most of the asphalt cowboys in Florida driving Jeeps on 40's and bro-dozer Super-Duty's. Props to him.

    It amazes me that people take cars on trails. It's like Black bear pass. People up there getting stuck and having to get rescued. Just because you almost can doesn't mean you should. Great video. I live in St George and have driven alot of these trails.

    This video reminds me of my first "Adv" motorcycle. I fitted knobby tires to a street oriented bike it and took it offroad and I destroyed that bike. I went through 2 skid plates and 2 sets of crash bars and like the Mazda, I held up all the other riders due to how slow and terrible that bike was for the type of riding I was doing. I sold it and got a motorcycle designed for that riding and surprise, it was way more enjoyable! It was not only more enjoyable for me (having the proper tool makes the job a lot easier) but I wasn't keeping everyone else waiting and carrying me through the trails. I appreciate your patience with him, but dang, its time for him to get something appropriate.

    • @JustinBMcBride
      @JustinBMcBride  8 місяців тому +4

      I won’t say you’re wrong. The right tool for the job is exactly the best way to describe it. While the Mazda did make it, it wasn’t as simple as it could be with, say a stock Bronco, Tacoma, 4Runner, XJ, etc.
      Even the Mazda’s counterpart of a Subaru Crosstrek would’ve likely performed better.

      @@t.o.f.t.s. it’s a challenge. I won’t lie. When Joe said he was interested in attending, I did my best to think of a trail that i knew was relatively easy. The thing is, easy for what I drive isn’t easy for what everyone drives. And without us helping to spot him, Joe wouldn’t be doing this trail.

    Quick story: About a decade ago, I (F) was with my kids in a 2007 Honda CRV to hike Hawksbill Crag in AR. A sign indicated that I should turn right onto a dirt road. I didn't notice that the only others on the trail were 4x4. As the switchbacks became incredibly steep and rocky, my exclamation { ! } alert flashed on the dash. The kids were screaming, the tires were slipping, and the narrow road trapped us in this adventure. With a rock wall on the passenger side and a cliff fall on the driver, I had to quickly learn how to drive this terrain. Finally arriving at the top, I pried my clenched fingers from the steering wheel and realized that there was also a paved road available to get there. Needless to say, the thrill of that event is why I'm watching Justin's videos, and I drive a 4Runner TRD now. I am an Overlander.
