Dear Santa: Really like the way you "produced" this video. While some might find it boring or slow I actually really like the difference it showed as you basically showed setup on everything pretty much at real speed. Most do like you said in the beginning or might show a clip taking it out/off the truck and BOOM.....it's doing whatever it is supposed to do. I feel your transparency has always been pretty clear and that is definitely one of the main reasons to watch your stuff. Hope you and the family have a happy holidays!
I like honesty, adventure, and actually taking action about things that don't feel right. Keep on doing commercial adventures, so long as it's still useful for area recon, a good storyline, and how the gear works, I'm in. New subscriber here.

Love the video/commercial...lol! How did you mounting the diesel on the cab door? Really like the efficient setup....keep up the vids!
One of my main requirements for a roof tent, was being able to leave all of my bedding set up. I cannot imagine having to roll up my sleeping bags and stuff every single morning. As a photographer that just makes those early mornings even earlier and the last thing I wanna do is struggle with my bedding. That’s why I went with Alucab even though it’s narrower has more room for bedding, which I fully appreciate! Great video with some great ideas for us gear nerds.
The Alucab is a great alternative to the GFC - If you can handle the weight. There are all kinds of good options out there. I’m with ya though, it would be nice to lay the bedding flat and roll away.

It will take us a bit to get there with a bunch of stops along the way. But I will not miss out on wheeling in Utah next year, it has to be the best place in this great country to explore. 100% agree that a sous vide to meal prep is a game changer. If you use an ice chest you don't have to worry about your ice being contaminated with raw chicken or any other raw meat. Also cuts way down on cook time.
Great Gear Review! You need the solo stove heat deflector. We use one for our ranger and its a game changer.

Thats awesom you will love it. I have recently ordered the cooking hub. I cant wait to try out! I have also read that the heat deflector can rest on top of the cooking hub without the legs attached. This will help because the cooking hub nests in the solo stove for transportation and the heat deflector can easly be transported without the legs attached. @@JustinBMcBride
I run the Toyo R/T Trails and also had a 9.9 pucker level coming down a steep shelf road north of Ophir on a snowy day in my GX 😅. I'm highly considering switching them out for all terrains. I love RT's but man for snow I don't think they're it. Also, that folding torch is awesome!
I have heard good things about the soon-to-be Hankook RT. It appears to be triple-peak rated.

Silky saw will be even better once you get the hang of it. It is a pull saw, so it cuts much better if you exert most of your energy while pulling it back and ease up when sending it forward.

Dear Santa, I appreciate this style of video. Thank you sir! If I may, when splitting wood, I do not recommend your method, holding the log with one hand and the hatchet with the other and doing one motion down on another log or ground, that is a great way to cut your hand (like you almost did here) 8:40 . Instead place the hatchet on the wood, using another log or hammer, smack the back of the hatchet, no hands below the sharp cutty bit.
You’re not wrong. One benefit of watching all of my camping videos back is learning lessons.

Totally agree on how Sous Vide will change the way you camp. Multiple times we've water-bathed steaks to medium rare, then just refrigerated them, and just seared them at the campsite. PERFECT steak while camping without the guesswork.
It really is something I can see more of us talking about this year.

Dear Santa: does the roof rack on the front help with wind noise from the GFC? Gas mileage (or too minimal to notice)? I have a new RTT on an xtrusion bed rack on my Gladiator and get some wind noise, not horrible but noticeable. I was looking to do a wind deflector or even a roof rack like yours. Your thoughts? Good video -I like honest gear advice!
It definitely helped with wind noise. I can’t say it has any effect on mileage.

Looks cold! Ever notice how campers always build a fire but don’t actually stand by it much to keep warm? It’s just burning over there for ambience or something.
Trust me, I kept standing by this.
Curious if you ever tried the rocket fire torch or one of those lava box portable campfires? I checked out those overalls from that livsn brand and they look like my next purchase!
While I was in Canada a few weeks back the guys were using the Rocket Fire Torch. Similar idea to the snow peak. I like how small the Snowpeak packs.
And we used the Lava Box in this video. It was neat, but not for me.

Dear Santa, Does the Devos Light Ranger put out as much light as we see on the video? I know some cameras tend to brighten up the scene, but if it does that well, I can't see any use for the Goal Zero, unless you're looking to host a sporting event or something! Definitely interested... And FYI, I've been a good boy this year! 😁
The DEVOS is pretty true to life in this video. These are on their brightest settings.

Dear Santa, if the purpose of this video wasn’t just to highlight gear, what would you have left at home?
Personally the solo stove is a great fire pit… only when you don’t need it for heat. It spits all the heat straight up and you need to buy another $175 thingamajig to deflect the heat. Makes some of the simple flat pack fire pits seem better for a winter camp when you just want to elevate the fire and keep it out of the snow.
I left all the gear at home that I don’t use. That was the point of this video.
In my previous gift guides I over-inflated my gear list, but in this approach I showed only what I actually use.
Sure, the Solo Stove is expensive and not perfect, but I’ve used the BioFire and the Devos fire pits, but the BioFire ran through logs and didn’t put out enough heat for the amount of logs I was carrying, and I didn’t like worrying about a battery.
The Devos is nice because it’s a flat pack and doesn’t have the side wall, however as the steel heats up it flexes and the hot ashes spill out. It great, especially when trying to camp in a spot that doesn’t have a fire ring like we did here.
If I could afford the Howl, that is what I would’ve brought. But for now, I use the Solo Stove.
Dear Santa, does that Solo stove really radiate heat well? While it burns efficiently, I’ve heard all the heat goes strait up/out the top. Ok if your standing, but not so much when seated, right?
It kept us warm on this trip. I did just get the new heat disperser from them. I’ll try it out this next week while snow camping again.
I will say this, yes everything is ridiculous expensive these days. Use discount codes wherever you find them and ask yourself this question....when im camping in the cold do i want the gear that works?

Dear Santa, any tips on wheeling in the snow? I live in South Florida and we don’t get much snow down here.😂 I will be using Goodyear Duratrac’s.
If it’s crunchy it’s not fun to drive on. That’s the best advice I can give. You want it to be powder.
Chains can help with the crunchy stuff, but it isn’t a sure fire answer. If it’s deeper than your ground clearance you’re going to be fighting it and can likely end up in a ditch or off the scary side of a road.
The bulin single stove is much better than the jetboil. Saved the bulin is only &40. And yes the Silky rocks.
I will have to check that one out!
Dear Santa, I’ve wondered about using sous code to under complicate normal life (my wife gets very squirmish around raw meat…it’s rough). I was curious what the process(es) you like to use for semi prepared meals (I guess specifically when camping). What do those look like?
The Sous Vide is my new favorite thing. I use it all the time at home.
I use the Breville+ app with their Joule to do the recipes.
But in short, add meat and seasonings to the vacuum seal bag then use the app to determine temp and time and drop it in the pot of water.
Yeah that all makes sense. I was curious if you are sous vide(ing) your camp meals right before you go camping and then searing them, or if you are cooking them and cooking (possibly freezing them) and then warming/searing them at the camp site.
I thought the goalzero light was a guided missile; sweet mercy that's huge!!
