Both 2021 TVs are updated with the latest firmware available in the US. There is a lot more that I want to talk about with these TVs so I will likely do a sequel to this video I still want to test more stuff out.
NOTE: Video footage your watching on UA-cam may not represent what I was seeing while filming at times it may appear blurry or have that compressed look that may hurt some details captured the video goes through a lot of processing with UA-cam, I will be describing what I am seeing for most scenes try to rely on that as well.
This test was meant to display out of the box capabilities of both TVs. These TVs are not calibrated and they are both in their out of the box modes ask if you have any questions at all.

If you have any questions that I didn’t answer in the side by side ask them here I’ll do my best to answer them. Please share this video in the appropriate places if you can, thanks again much love to you all!
nce content man, really clear, maybe if you have time make a compartion with the qn90a?
Can you see a faint grid in bright scenes?
Great video! Would you say the A80J is brighter overall in HDR than the C1?
Will you be doing a review on the X90J? Would like to know your thoughts on the X90J vs the LG C1 as a primary PC Monitor for both work and entertainment.
Also would you recommend the LG C1 for use as a PC Monitor vs the X90J? Is the risk of burn in worth the advantage in picture quality? I'll be using either one of these TVs for work, game and video content consumption.
I really want the LG C1 especially since LG is more active at releasing improvements via firmware updates as compared to Sony. It shows that LG has more respect for the consumers while Sony basically seems to show ignorance.
The only thing stopping me is the burn-in risk as PC Monitor usage would be the most prone to that I assume.
If it can at least last me 3 years of usage before burn in kicks in I'll at least be somewhat contented with the purchase.
As I work from home I'm probably a heavy user that will probably clock in a minimum of 10 hrs screen on time per day. This means than 3 years would approximately be somewhere around 10,950 hrs of screen on time. Would you think the OLED would at least last me this long without any burn in?
Awesome!! This is the comparison I have been waiting for, thank you for your hard work on this!
Glad you liked it thanks for checking it out!
Really good review!! Lots of info! Thx...
Thank you!
This was a great video, extremely helpful and looking forward to more content.
Thank you!
Loved your review, love the relaxed, down-to-Earth attitude you have towards these thing
Thank you, I appreciate that!
The effort put in this is tangible..keep it up buddy.
Thank you!
Need another 48inch model from Sony since Sony haven't made another 48inch yet LG is already on a c1 48inch to C2 48inch models Sony is falling behind LG well what did we expect when they have to buy the panels from LG
Your reviews have been incredibly helpful. Thank you. I am really pushing towards the A80J.
All these panels samsung Sony ect. are made by LG. They bought out the company that created and own the TV panels that make oled work so LG is always winning.
@@willdickens7712You are correct. I ended up getting the Sony. That XR processing is amazing. The "Realty Creation" feature is a game changer. I crank it up to like 80% and everything looks like it's 8k with crazy detail.
Hi KG. Great video! Can you provide any feedback on the diminishing issue when watching channels that have logos? I am specifically curious if it is a big deal when watching sports or if some folks are making it a bigger deal than it is. I don't game but watch a lot of sports so if the A80J has the dimming problems that can't be controlled, it seems the LG C1 is the way to go. Thoughts?
I like this video. Clear cut, all the info I wanted
Thanks. Your hard worked answered some questions I had. Especially about sdr content. Keep up the good work.
Thank you glad it helped!
Hi! great review and comparaison, thanks.
What was the tv picture mode setting when you had those flashing artefacts ?
It was supposed to be improved from last generations according to Vincent Teoh but still the same issues, quite depressing !
Thank you, it might be improved but it is definitely still there on occasion the flashing is going to likely be seen on all modes in SDR it takes a certain kind of scene to produce it though darker SDR shows will likely be the biggest offender.
Nice video, Like this type of Side by side comparison
Thank you! I like doing them it’s just not always easy to get 2 different TVs but I’ll think of something in the future.
Great video. Thanks man
Thank you!
Great review! Thanks for hitting all the key points. Exactly what I looking 4
Thank you!!!
Hey, love your videos, very informative and detailed comparison.
I really enjoy the Amblight from Philips, could you compare some of the recent Philips Oled models, like 806/856 706 to the C1 or A80J?
Thanks that means a lot. Unfortunately we don't get Phillips or Panasonic here in the US I wish we did.
Great Comparison! I subscribed
Thank you so much Daniel!
Loved it bro
I appreciate your honesty and you're right 99% of consumers won't pay to get their sets calibrated, definitely the Sony has more clarity, gets brighter and colors looks better, also the LG C1 crushes the blacks a little on some images. The lack of VRR is disappointing on Sony's part but is coming and the TV performs better than the C1 on everything else, however I don't think the A80J is worth the $400 price difference on the 55", but the A80J has been on sale for a while at Best Buy for $1900 55" and for a $100 difference I would get the A80J for sure.
ya its the pricing that throwing me off on the sony tv especially with the 55 inch. that being said the picture quality isnt so different that the sony become a better buy especially when it comes to gaming as lg is a lot better when it comes to frame rates. not to mention lg supports vrr out of the gate and gsync and free sync which really helps with frame rates. for gaming the lg is still the king.
Went with the LG because it has better gaming chops. If I only cared about movies then Sony would probably have the edge as it has slightly better picture processing. Can't beat the connectivity and future proof features of the LG though. Both are best in class Oleds at the end of the day.
When you Play Xbox series x you are right nur when you are a ps5 Gamer and watch a Lot of movies or series Sony ist was better Tor that.
I game but I probably watch movies and stream, went with the Sony
@@GrinchyBoby lol none console can hit a native 4 k , this 2 consoles can max hit 60 fps and 1080p xd this bad boy is fror the pc gamers and ofc cosole people who don't know nothing about native resolution , you literaly playing 1080p at this monitor with console is just expanded to 4k like all the fake chinise tvs
as a pc gamer, I couldnt care less about vrr on my tv or extra 2.1 ports. I mainly use ps5 for story exclusives type of games. The difference for tv and shows made me go with the sony. just a clear choice.
Good review .. keep up the good work..
Thank you!
Thank you for this comparison 🙏
My pleasure!
The specular highlights on the Sony are insane!! Very impressive...so much more detail. Thanks for doing this comparison. Awesome video, KG! I was already thinking about buying the A80J...now I'm sold for sure.
Thank you I am sold too but I can't quite pull the trigger yet on a bigger version without it having VRR just a personal preference but who knows I might talk myself into it.
@@TechWithKG I called my local retailer and bought the 65 inch A80J. They gave me a 5-year warranty (they are a certified Sony service center) for just $150!!! And free delivery tomorrow morning!! Awesome service! I get the hesitation on VRR, but I game strictly on a PS5, which does not yet have VRR unlocked. I bet they update PS5 with VRR when they finally push VRR to their TVs. Thanks again for helping me make my decision. :)
@@harmoncollege Who is your retailer and it's amazing to get a 5 year warranty for $150! Do they ship nationwide?
@@glllelkl It's Video Revolution in Tulsa. I don't know if they ship nationwide, but probably. The reason I got the 5-yr warranty for $150 was because they gave me a $100 service credit for my last TV that had a 5-yr warranty that was never used.
@@harmoncollege thanks
Do you leave a lot of the processing on or turn it off? I have the CX and I can say for sure that picture clarity will improve a lot when you turn off all of the BS processing. I’m not trying to be mean or critical but some of that footage in the comparison seemed puzzling on the LG side. I don’t have the C1 and I think the CX actually has better color accuracy out of the box if I’m not mistaken than this year‘s model. The detail around the sun in squadrons seemed like a big disparity between the two so it’s almost like something was wrong on the C1.
Ehh no , my friend has the lg cx and I have the c1 , and we compared both tv and the lg c1 it's bettee for the brightnes and multiplayer games
@@Zethtk out of curiosity. are you 7?
@@RyhtymFiend lol
Hi KG, do you stil own the C1 and A80J?
Would you be able to compare the True Cinema motion setting on the LG with Smoothness +1 on the Sony?
A quick written answer would be highly appreciated!!!! Thanks a lot!
Awesome video bro
Thank you!
Really awesome Video buddy 👌
I would love to see a full gaming comparison of these Tvs maybe with games like Horizon Zero dawn or something
Thank you! I will see what I can do for something in the future maybe.
I’m absolutely in love with my 65inch A80J :)
Great Video!!! So how is your personal ranking now for these three? Q90A > A80J > C1? I think I similar taste as you in tvs. I like the pop and punch but would like the cool look of an OLED. Thanks!!
Thank you! Its hard I guess I would have to break it down into overall categories. I think from what I seen the A80J impressed me the most, but that's probably because I was already using a Q90T when I reviewed the QN90A that brightness factor may hit differently with others who see it for the first time because it is impressive, C1 looked great in HDR movies & gaming but the non HDR stuff for gaming was kind of dull and had me a little worried.
Gaming Visual Impact = QN90A, A80J, C1 - I still think that high brightness makes a huge impact for gaming
Gaming Picture Clarity All Around = A80J, QN90A, C1 - Processing wise I felt Sony to be far and away the best, QN90A did gaming great as well in SDR, C1 was a let down for SDR.
Gaming Functionality = C1, QN90A, A80J - No VRR day one is a big deal
Movies & TV = A80J, C1, QN90A - Movies look good on all 3 but I think movies and TV look the best on the A80J. This is probably going to depend on preference for a lot of people though and gotta factor in room conditions.
Finally an honest review about the gaming and picture of the A80j, I agree with the differences you pointed out 👍
Really good and honest comparison. Great job, keep it up.
Many reviewers are calibrating their TV before comparison, but calibration is expensive, time consuming and not everyone is going to do it. So I was looking for a comparison review with out of the box calibration and got that here. Much thanks!
Thank you! Yeah I agree that’s pretty much what your always going to find here on this channel. So you can definitely look forward to that with pretty much most of my videos.
Awesome video! Definitely made my decision easier, also what was that game with the dinosaurs? 🤣
Thanks I’m glad it helped you. Second Extinction I think it’s called it was on Xbox game pass not sure if it still is
Why when panning on the A80J looks double the image? Is this a problem with the A80J? like ghosting or is a problem with de video capture. For example at 9:10 yo can see 4 tires, two yellow lines, two palms, etc. Many thanks!
Great comparison here for two TVs that are so evenly matched with their own sets of drawbacks. I’m leaning in the a80j direction because I watch movies more than I play games.
Thanks! Yeah id say if your watching more than playing that’s a good choice.
Why can't I take the a80j if I play a lot?
@@MrMagicdiamond you can if you want. The a80j doesn’t have as many features for gaming as the C1. Whether that matters is up to you.
@@TyroneLT thank You, which one would You choose for gaming 60% and tv 40%?
@@MrMagicdiamond probably LG but what system are you gaming on? The new Xbox can take more advantage of features like VRR and Dolby Vision gaming than the PS5. If you have a PS5 those features aren't available yet so it wouldn't make a difference on the a80j.
Went with the LG C1 77" inch great bang for the buck 👍👊
Sweet! I agree hard to argue with that decision.
Calibrated these tvs will look very similar minus brightness, processing, motion and tone mapping, the new processor from Sony is a killer. For Dolby Vision and HDR LG tone maps to brighten the entire image while Sony wants to preserve highlights, so if mid tones are a little too dark on any Sony OLED just engage Contrast Enhancer to "Low" for DV and you can go a little higher for HDR. The detail even with streaming content is great on my A9G cant wait to test the A80 or A90. Awesome video bro!
Edit: Near black is always a problem with OLED tech especially with lower bitrate streaming content, each manufacturer has different ways to try and combat the issue, if you use a Apple TV you can set Match Framerate to Off or drop black level to 49 or 48 as long as its no crushing detail.
My bad I missed this comment, really good observations. You are 100% right about the near black
Informative video. I just bought a new cheap Samsung 7 series 65”. I researched quite a bit but I couldn’t find enough information or comparisons like this to justify 4-6 times more. I’m not a gamer I just wanted a quality view when watching tv.
Can you make an audio or sound comparison between the LG C1 & the Sony A80J? Which of the 2 have the best bass & mid sounds? Which of the 2 won’t need a soundbar? Which of the offers a better Dolby Atmosphere & DTS experience? Looking very soon on this sound comparison between these 2 OLEDs.
The crushed detail on the gate at 6:20 on the C1 compared to the A80J is actually pretty insane
Couldn't tell the difference, personally. Although, the sky looked more washed out on the Sony.
@@dougdougwThen your blind
Is there a way to improve the sharpness/clarity on the C1 through the settings? Looks to me that lowering saturation and improving contrast a bit, and some sharpness can make them appear almost identical? Thank you.
Just follow a calibration guide
Theres a sharpness setting under clarity. I personally set sharpness to 0. HDR looks off with sharpness.
Great vedio . I am in dilemma to choose between Sony A80J 77" ( 2021) which I am getting after cashback offer 2499 euro in Europe . But store is advising me to go for Sony Master series KD 77AG9 that costs 2699 euro. Store says AG9 is 2019 model but way better in black handling and picture quality than 2021 A80J model. What is your advice. Which model should I go for .
Wow! You just rescued me ! Tests are so great. No wonder Sony is using wonderful processors
My only question would be how XBOX HDR games compared? I always wonder does the PS5 perform better on the Sony due to being manufactured by the same company? Great comparison and I agree with everyone appreciating the side by side out of the box comparison. In the end I went with the 65” A80J cause I tend to watch more movies than playing games anyways. I also agree with everyone chiming in about Sony needs to get their stuff together and put out VRR as they promised :/. But I digress…Thank you!
I been so excited for the Sony tv. I’m actually waiting for the 83
I can't wait to try out the A90J after testing this should be interesting definitely seeing Sony in a different light after this.
@@TechWithKG same here. The picture quality is just insane. Even with the missing VRR which is coming but not day 1 I still believe this is worth it for picture quality alone. Is superb. I can only imagine the next gen consoles on this.
Are you brain dead? The C1 is $2k less. That takes a big chunk out of the price of a decent surround sound setup. Unless you’re just looking to burn your money.
@@plh8707 picture quality looks better to me among other reasons as well. Is also personal choice and nobody’s business :).
A little help here. Deciding between 77 a80j, 83 a90j, and 83 C1. Leaning towards Sony but with the earc issues should I go with the C1? I have Sonos arc soundbar, sub, and surround speakers. Will this be a problem w/ Sony? I mostly stream from native apps and Apple TV. Thanks.
If you would be using this for some ps5 gaming but mostly watching movies and football games which would you pick? I can't decided
Really good comparison videos. For my room setup, I would prefer to get the 48" C1, but might end up just getting the larger 55" A80J. How do the two compare with motion when it comes to the soap opera effect? I'm not a fan of it, yet I don't mind just a little bit of smoothing to prevent some judder.
There is no soap opera effect on either (maybe you can get it if you force it) but the motion is really smooth on both TVs. I was overall impressed with motion.
Just measure your viewing distance based on the size you're planning to get.
Dude! THANK YOU so much for doing this. I'm about to buy a new tv and these are the two models I've narrowed it down to. At first it was the C1 but I was starting to lean toward the A80J. Your awesome work has helped me make my final decision. A80J all the way.
No problem, it was my pleasure being able to demonstrate this I always find in interesting when comparisons end up being this different. Thank you for watching!
Yup are LGs additional gaming features even worth it at this point difference looked huge on my SDR 1080i tv lol
Need an Xbox to get all the gaming features because they are partnered with lg
@@braedanrobinson2809 Xbox doesn’t have all the features as it doesn’t support gsync, also Xbox a few years ago was partnered with Samsung and not even flagship Samsung’s the lower end crappy ones. Partnerships don’t mean anything

KG is there any problem with the audio on the A80J coming out if you connected to a receiver.
Great comparison, its really helpful to see! I had two question I was hoping you could answer.
Were you able to set peak brightness in sdr game mode on the c1. I had read it was one of the greyed out options.
Also do you remember how high your reality creation was set on the a80j to get that sharpness? Thanks!
Peak brightness was locked in the SDR mode. Manual for the reality creation the default setting its 10 for some modes and 20 for others I saw but if you wanna raise it a bit it can produce some stunning results without over sharpening (I think for gaming I might have had it off) auto seems to work just fine as well.
Thanks for the response ! Thats great to know and a pretty big difference in quality.
Do you remember what the peak brightness was set to on the Sony for sdr gaming. Im curious how they would compare in a bright room.
@@TechWithKG did you set super resolution for the c1

On a live stream that you did with classy where he mentioned the dimming aspect of the Sony that cannot be disabled on the Sony. How noticeable was this for you and do you think it is a deal breaker along with the noticeable image retention? Thanks again.
Thanks! I honestly didn’t notice it in most content at first but I do raise some concern with it, it might be that some people will be more sensitive to it but the image retention was pretty noticeable. I wouldn’t say it’s deal breaker but if you doing mostly gaming I’d go towards an LG.

KG you where 100% CORRECT on keeping my QN90A for gaming. I set it up side by side beside my cousins new 55” C1 last night. He brought his over straight from the store. I had the QN90A up to 40 outta 50 in brightness and contrast. And the C1 maxed out. And the C1 was so dark man compared to the QN90A. We where about 10 feet back. And we played the new Resident Evil Village on these TVs and the QN90A in a medium light room just killed the C1 and gaming there was no studdering at all either on the QN90A. Lol my cousin is returning the C1 this afternoon and swapping it out for the QN90A. I just wanted you to know that you where correct on the Samsung and I appreciate your feedback. Your the real deal man! Keep the killer content rolling. And the A80J OLED is a gorgeous tv for sure also. And it’s a bit brighter then the C1 as I’ve seen em side by side in a store last week.
Yeah the QN90A was so impressive next to the C1 for me as well, I am glad its working out for you. I still probably would say for most normal lit or bright rooms the QN90A is the best gaming TV someone could buy right now I even like it in a dark room but it definitely gets closer in that scenario. Thank you for watching & sticking with me!
@@TechWithKG well I give credit when credits due bud. And I’m blown away how sharp and bright and the colours are mind blowing in the vibrancy Dept. And the game mode is fantastic. But I appreciate your help and I haven’t been this happy with a tv in many years. Stay safe KG
@@lunduria I completely agree :). The QN90A is breath taking to game and watch tv on. The crisp bright picture is something I’ve never witnessed till now. I’m SO happy I didn’t go OLED. Plus I don’t need to worry about gaming sessions on the Neo QLED vs OLED. In 6 years my cousin is now on his 3rd OLED and he said it’s gonna be his last one also. He said the only reason why he has this one was because the third party warranty company he has on the tv gave him 50% back in a store credit towards a new OLED.
Did you get a chance to compare the input lag? Which one was better
@@ErockHQ QN90A hasn’t had any lag at all. I’m a Halo guy and play it all the time.
What are your thoughts on the C1 and A80J vs the Q90T??????
I seen you mention that you switched to the Samsung when watching a program to avoid an annoying flashing?
Considering picking up a Q90t (savings) vs the Sony A80J
Depends on your picture preference you have to be prepared for some blooming on rare occasions and that you won’t hit oled blacks if you are getting a Q90T but it gets super bright. What’s your room like, dark or light?
Nice video!
@jmac Lol. Probably older than you are! I see you took credit for my Superchat with Brian last night. :)
Thank you!!
Sorry if I missed it, but I didn't see motion comparison. How is fast motion on these two tvs and which one came out on top?
Yeah I didn't fit it into this review. Honestly I thought motion was good on both TVs I didn't really have a way to test it outside of just watching regular content motion felt great on both
@@TechWithKG thanks for the update.
The price drop on the A80j 77" has me wondering if it's time to pull the trigger. I was leaning towards the 65" before the price drop. Great review 👍
Great stuff! A80J vs QN90A for gaming would be really interesting to see.

Hey KG, any idea what panel the 50 qn90a will use in the US? I was torn between the 55 qn90a vs the 48 c1 but I think the 55 qn90a is to big so now I'm waiting again to compare the 50 qn90a with theb48 c1. Also this will be a PC gaming display on a RTX 3090
I haven't heard anything about what panel it will use, I hope it uses a VA panel.
I have a q95t, I want to upgrade to OLED. do you recommend A80J or C1?? Ihaveboth consoles and I am a gamer.
Man that Sony does seem to have the edge. I'm in the UK and as good as the Sony seems it doesn't have VRR yet still waiting on the 2020 models to get their firmware update lol, plus not all the freeview catchup apps are on the TV similar to how the CX was last year at launch.
I think I'm going with the C1 but thanks for the comparison
VRR is coming with a firmware update sony advised soon.
@@JW-sl3ht yeah I just don't believe them. People who bought the 2020 model's are still waiting for their VRR update and they were advised "VRR is coming soon".

Vrr for the ps5 without vrr?
Most of the Games in pure 4k runs With 30fps maybe 60 With added RT in eine scenes. For what you need VRR

Hello there.
I bought the model A83J 65", and a day after i noticed that the panel of the tv is bended on left and right sides, it is bended backwards.
My question is it suppose to be like that or it is an issue and i need to claim that this tv will be replaced for another one for me?
Thank you.
With all the firmware updates it has been really hard to keep up. If I were to get a tv now, is a CX on par with the sonys or are a8h/a90j/etc still better?
I was just in a TV shop here in the UK and I was speaking to a Sony rep about the A80J and A84J (the newer model) - apparently the VRR firmware update is coming at the beginning of 2022, which is kinda pushing me towards Sony.
Great video. This was great for me and 89% of people who buy tvs. Most of us do not mess with the settings because we don’t know what we are doing lol. And, you did not go into the tech details that sound basically like “bwau ba daa bwah ba” to me. I was debating which one to get and you helped me make up my mind. FINE JOB, young man.
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful!
Awesome video as always I love sony can't help it just wish videos did the a80j and a90j justice
Thank you!!
Is the Sony remote blue tooth thinking about getting the Sony this year for Black Friday. You think this model will go on sale for the 65” and the 75” hope so
which one do you prefer? sony 55A75K or TCL 55c835. in my country both of them at the same price.
Hello for info the sony XR-77A80j is currently at 3990 € in luxembourg and Sony reimburses 1000 € which makes a final price at 2990 €!
what is that 1k off? Used price?
I 100% agree on your input about the depth of color Sony has. I'm an automotive detailer and see different paint colors every day...I can totally relate with you. I recently was at my father in laws place and he has a 77" lg c1 oled, and I gotta say, the Sony clearly wins this comparison. The LG was amazing, don't get me wrong, but yeah the remote was cool buts simplify it back to the older ones. Love this review.
Hello brother! How bad is the input lag on the A80j outside the game mode? Only for 30 fps games using motion interpolation. It's really noticeable? I can't game at 30 fps now 😅.
Hi, I have a PS5 and I’m looking for the perfect tv to game on and watch movies. Which one should I get and why?
Lg c1 is too contrast and blueish. I prefer the a80j. Tq for the review
yeah it looked waaay oversaturated
people think more color = better
Sony needs to make a 48 inch version of the A80J
Yeah they do, or at least some version of a 48 inch XR Bravia OLED.

Was contemplating buyin a cheap hisense 77 u6h until I saw the oled lg and sony side by side and I agree with your review. Both oled set really stood out compared the rest but the a80j brought the magic, the picture looks noticeably better. End up buying the 77" a80j. Glad I saw them at the store first before buying the hisense, oled is that much better and would have been happy with an A1 65in that was on sale for 999.
KG, do you have a comparison video on A80J vs QN95A (77"/75")? If not... help me choose which one to buy. My room is "normal bright". I never watch in a dark room. I prefere bright tvs but there is that DSE to worry about.
.....advice?
Thanks.
If you prefer bright TVs I think the QN95A is the direction I’d go. Quality wise both TVs are pretty equal I give the edge to the A80J on clarity but the Samsung isn’t that far behind. Just gotta know that DSE can happen with any LCD panel your likely to have at least some it’s a luck based thing on how bad it is
Thanks. This is what TV reviews should be. Upscaling, SDR gaming, saturation / color side by side.
Only thing I see is that the A80J seems to have a bit more ghosting than the C1 in game mode, if you hit pause as the screen is in motion its more often blurry on the A80J.
Thanks! Actually on the ghosting from I found it to be the exact opposite in a lot of my raw footage so that might just be a video processing thing, this video was entire video is rendered in 30fps but the footage is 60fps I had to do this for such a long video for file size. Next gaming side by side video I do won’t be as long and will be uploaded at 60fps.
@@TechWithKG nice, great to know!

Yes please KG a gaming comparison would be great.
I'd be interested to see if you think the lack of VRR on the Sony really makes that much of a difference because I'm betting that the Sony has the better picture.
Also, would be interesting to see the snow scene in Sony v QN90a comparison as the QN90A destoryed your C1 when whites were prominent (no surprises there) but be interesting to see how the Sony performs.

I can run the Sonos through the 2.1 HDMI e-arc port and Xbox series x through the other 2.1 port.

sony is something else in picture quality. i have lg c9, which is a great tv. But in overall picture quality i have lately realized that sony has the best picture quality. the micro refinements and image processing/depth/(vivid colors yet highly natural ) is extraordinary. seen it in person a8h, a80j, looks like a virtual 3d tv. sadly a90j is not available in india yet. will try to upgrade to the next year's sony flagship.
i game (ps5) on lg c9, IMO, any day for my next purchase, i'll chose pure picture quality over gimmicks like 120fps native 4k which is a pipe dream for current generation consoles as 60fps is more than enough for me and 120 will be barely supported if any, even if supported game will have lower resolution textures and definetly no ray tracing. whereas, the effect of solid basics, like better picture quality/godly upscaling/better motion will be available in whatever the content ill watch.
I also have the c9 and I was wondering about this so thank you

Does the A80J have the picture off mode in the settings bar when you press the gear on the remote? My a90J does but my co worker can't seem to find that feature on his 77" A80J. Can't find any info on this or not. If it's absent then that should definitely be noted because its very useful on any oled.
Its there maybe its not enabled on the shortcuts for some reason for him. If you click the settings bar and scroll all the way to the right where it says edit you can set up the shortcuts. Hope this helps!
You need to calibrate both your screens to get a fair comparison, especially the C1. I know it's a hassle, but honestly it's the only way you will truly get the most out of them. Rtings gave 4.6 for pre calibration on the C1 and 9.4 for post calibration which says a lot. If you can't afford the tools or not sure what you're doing, then you can always hire a professional calibrator to do the job.
I like the way I’m doing it now it gives most average consumers a chance to see what out of the box pre calibration looks like I still do the obvious needed tweaks. If I ever do get into calibration I’ll still do it this way first and I’ll do a calibrated version later if I ever get that far. Majority of people won’t be getting calibration so I’m giving them what I’d want to see if I’m in their shoes.
@@TechWithKG yeah, it's a fair point. Most people won't calibrate their TVs so pre calibration is fairly important. But then you also have to factor in that every TV has a unique panel which affects the colour and brightness, therefore yours won't be the same as someone else's. I think in a few years they will have A.I. software to automatically calibrate it for you.
C1 is so easy to calibrate. Just youtube some calibration videos. I recommend HDTVs video. I dont agree with him putting white tone to warm 50 but besides that its perfect.
Lol you think people waste their time just to calibrate. They want the perfect picture quality out of the box only
@@ainajoe5874 actually a lot of people calibrate their own displays. The "perfect" out of the box picture does not exist so not sure what you're talking about there. Sony are known to have the best out of the box picture settings, but even they're not perfect.
Another nice comparison video, KG. Damn shame both these OLEDs have a lot of issues with regard to gaming: hardware defective VRR on the C1, no VRR on the A80J, insufficient bandwidth on the MediaTek 5895 SoC to display 4K@120Hz HDR without posterization on the A80J, no Dolby Vision with 4K@120Hz signal on the A80J - and above all else - pink tinting off and on-axis, banding and the Venetian blind effect on both.
Thank you Hammer, its good to see you again. Yeah it is a shame. What hardware defective VRR are you referring to for the C1 exactly? For the 120hz on the A80J I haven't seen much difference from the C1 but admittedly I haven't spent a ton of time with 120hz HDR yet I will look closer on that. I wanna test the tinting as well there may be some pink tinting on both I was looking at some footage where I caught some of that on a hockey game but I gotta just look for some test patterns and check it out again.
@@TechWithKG- LG has confirmed VRR flicker and raised gamma are a hardware defect on their OLED panels. They stated they didn't have time to address the VRR panel limitations this year. The gamma curve adjustment they added is a workaround, but by no means a fix.
I really want to get an OLED with pristine bright screen-uniformity, as the Q90T I am currently using has unacceptable FALD grid-patterns. Evidently only OLED panels manufactured in Paju, rather than Guangzhou can offer a panel that's reasonably free of tinting, banding and Venetian blind effect grid lines. I was hoping the Evo panel would be universally better.
@@TomlinsonHolman52583 rumour is that all “evo panels” are manufactured in the Chinese plant not paju so getting a “grid” free example probably won’t happen my A90J 55 has grid but it’s not bad at all and hardly noticeable even in bright highlights I have to go looking for it
Is there a tv you'd recommend outside of these two at this point?
@@nickh9811 No, my comments here were 6-months-ago and I've seen all the 2021 OLED TVs on offer in the US. I am very happy with my 65-inch C1 with a Guangzhou Evo panel. It has pink tint only off-axis, no grid issues, minimal banding (which also improves after time and pixel refreshers), and zero dead pixels. Screen-uniformity is absolutely superb compared to the Q90T, no comparison. In dark, high contrast games/movies OLED absolutely dominates all other display technologies. The C1 & A80J are the best buys in OLEDs in 2021.
Great video subbed! I have a LG C7 55inch, looking to upgrade. Been looking at the C1 65inch or the A90j 55inch crazy price thou! but now considering the A80j 65inch as not much price difference with the C1 here in the UK. I’m 80% movies 4K content and 20% gaming with the new Xbox. What do you think is the best upgrade from the C7??
Thank you! 80% movies without a doubt I’d go A80J 65 inch over a 55 inch A90J and 65 inch C1. I also came from a C7 last year these new oled models are so much more impressive.
@@TechWithKG oh really, yea loved the C7 can’t complain but want that 2.1 to get the most out the Xbox. But if I’m upgrading picture quality is more important then anything and all I keep hearing is the Sony’s are the best for that. Appreciate the response will wait patiently for the A80j to hit the shelves this month to go take a look!!
It seemed from the video that the A80J, while showing more shadow detail, also suffered a little from raised blacks. Is this indeed the case or is that due to your recording?
In some cases it raised blacks a little probably looks worse on camera because it didn't bother me a ton but in comparison on these same scenes I noticed dithering or just crushing on the C1
Good point on the 1080p gaming
It's one reason I sold my C9,it made GTA online look terrible no matter how it was adjusted
Samsung QLED somehow makes it look so clean and crisp 👍
I see more shadow details in the resident evil footage on the A80j
