    I started my Orchid hobby over 2 years ago purchasing a couple of large Phals from the local supermarket. They have not bloomed at all until now. I believe the reasons are that I did not have them growing in a bright enough spot and watering was inconsistent. 6 months ago I moved them and other subsequent Phals bought to a bright Southern facing window with an opaque curtain so they won't burn. I also provided humidity trays for more consistent moisture. They started spiking in Jan and now they all have very beautiful blooms!

    So glad you were renewed!! I was given 2 orchids over a year ago and thank god I ran across your channel because they were NOT doing well. Now one of them has a flower spike growing and is ready to bloom - the other, I think will need some time to come back from my initial mistakes, but is also doing well. Thank you for all of the helpful information!

    This video is so helpful to me, thank you for all the information. I have been collecting orchids for a year and 3 months so I’m starting to get my first rebloom. But some are not blooming . I’m getting there , but I was so excited because my first Vanda made a spike ! It got bigger and bigger & then it just died? I wonder what I did wrong to it . Shame I might have to wait another year . I’m happy to keep trying . This hobby is great. I love that I always can refer back to your help for beginners stuff . And also your twinkle is a showstopper my goodness !

    Hi Dani, I live on the coast in Ecuador. The temp never drops as low as you are suggesting to trigger budding. I have phals grown in nurseries in ecuador. I have moved them to an a/c room but the temp only goes down to 22, while the other rooms are at 26. The only other diff is the drop in humidity in the a/c room. What do you suggest? Thanks for your advice.

    • @katearcher8881
      @katearcher8881 3 роки тому +1

      Hi, I recently read somewhere, that some nurseries use misting and fan in the evening to imitate temperature drop. You should be careful though, your orchid leaves have to be able to fully dry where they attach to the stem to prevent crown rot.

    I just received my first orchid ever (a white phalenopsis) as a gift today, and am really excited but nervous - so it was a relief to find your channel.
    The only thing I'm still unsure about is placement... my small apartment only has one (very large) west-facing window, but its sill is over a radiator, while the panes get very cold in winter. But I worry that on sitting a desk 2.5 metres away, it'll be way too dark? Is steady light or steady temperature more important, in your experience?

    hi. i just find your channel and thanks for the videos. i have a phalaenopsis orchid, it had blooms when i get it two years ago. after that it didn't bloom again. this year i put it in the stairs to feel the autumn (it was about 20 degree celsius. our home was the same!) after a few weeks the leaves start to loosen. then i brought it back to home. the leaves became good and stiff but after few days they start to yellow one by one from the older ones! up to now it lost 3 leaves. i noticed it was in direct sun exposure and put it in a darker place. what else should i do? i'm worry about it and i don't want to lose it. it was a gift from my boyfriend. please help me or address relevant video of your channel.

    Hello! I would like to ask about the root. Some have branched out as they do, but there are section of the root that is mushy and clearly dead. On the dead part, the stele has been exposed and not covered by the velamen, but must still be transporting water, as the branch downstream is very much alive. Now, would you cut them down nontheless? I have plenty of roots and generally a healthy orchid. Thank you.

      I’m going to say something outrageous here. Throw it in the trash! Don’t even give it away to some other hopeful person. Move on and make room for something lovely that will bloom for you regularly. We only have room and time for a limited number of plants. Those plants should be ones who give us something back long before 10 years passes. Life is too short! There may be something wrong with the plant and it may never bloom.

    Hi, I have a Phal that hasn’t grown a spike in almost two years, last bloom was summer 2019. I repotted after, and has otherwise been thriving in the new pot. Lots of new roots, aerial roots, and lots of new leaves, but no spikes or blooms. The only thing I think is that it’s decided to grow/leans sideways (more natural though?). If that’s the reason is it worth trying to wean it back to straight up so that it can push out a bloom? Or do you think this is happening for another reason. Thanks

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 роки тому

      Hi, nope leaning is absolutely normal and doesn't affect blooming. I think temperature drop, or lack of it, is a more plausible reason, or any of the other reasons in this video 🧡

She receives the same treatments as all others (which all bloomed/are still blooming) and yet, 4 years that I've had her, I've seen no trace of new stems. Just a lot of leaves and active roots. This year I thought to bring her to a even cooler room, but nothing worked.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  3 роки тому +1

      Well, unless it's a polychilos hybrid or species, I would go as low as 15 C (59 F) for a month! Some hybrids can have some cool grower species herritage and spike at lower temps. Some hybrids even need only 20 C (68 F), but the sweet spot for 99% of them is what I said in the video. There are exceptions though 😉 hope it spikes!

      @@MissOrchidGirl she's the classic supermarket hybrid. If it can help, I remember she had little flowers in a color range of white/green/yellow. She stayed in that room for well over a month and during night time temp goes down to even 14 degrees at times. She put out a new leaf (still growing) and that's it. I think she now has something like.. 12 leaves. There's plenty of space for her to bloom! I'm just sad cause she was beautiful and I just want her to give her full potential. I know she's relatively happy cause otherwise she wouldn't grow so many roots and leaves, but still 😭
