Just a quick comment on the AZIO keyboards. They all use a natural backing, so it's not fake leather it's real leather (which means it should also be treated as such when cleaning it) and the wood is also a real wood veneer. The metal rings around the border of the keayboard is plated in either nickel or copper depending on the model. It's honestly a really high quality board, but the key shape takes a bit getting used to when you come from a regular board (the quality is on par or higher for the most part though). Not a bad way to go for a keyboard if you really want something that performs well while still giving a certain look, and they can be had without wireless functionality as well for a significant price reduction.
well why do you think most wallets use leather instead of something else? because it looks cool? ever heard of washing your wallet because of your oils and shit? no your oil and shit might effect on it but it's not going to ruin it. also why does real wood get effected by your oil you can just wipe it off if you want to. wood and leather is one of the most clever way to make a product feel more premium while retaining durability if they use real ones.
As mentioned the leather adds to the quality feel, if all you wanted was practicality you wouldn’t buy a “premium” keyboard to start with but rather stick with whatever 5$ keyboard all OEM computers come with. As for ease of use on this specific keyboard, it’s a lot easier to keep clean than my G710+. Cleaning leather isn’t all that difficult, but you can’t use any sort of harsh cleaning agent on it so it’s just good to keep that in mind. As for why you would ever choose real leather or wood over plastic it’s really the same reason why leather shoes, wallets and even wooden furniture is still popular, it gives a different feel than what plastic does. Practicality has nothing to do with it.
about the Chinese words on the box, it's "打字机机械键盘". im sure the first 5 words are"打字机机械" ,the last 2 words "键盘"is my guess so it would make sense. 打字机 means "typewriter" , 机械 means “mechanical” and 键盘 means "keyboard" .so it should means "mechanical typewriter keyboard".
I understand its a bad product, but when you encounter this 7:55 , you should then re-consider if you installed something wrong, upside down, or the product came with missing parts. seriously. LOOK AT THE METAL BENDS. you have it inserted upside down...
This is correct, however: The keyboard is a straight rip-off of a shitty Chinese keyboard which retails for $80. They did a fundraiser and raised nearly $400k so they could rebrand an existing product and sell it for like 3x normal price. I'm actually impressed. I need to get in on this indiegogo shit.
It still would barely hold a phone and not an iPad...not securely at the very least. But it probably was upside down, luckily that wouldn’t really have changed anything.
Nah, it would probably work to hold an ipad if installed properly. Maybe not securely but well enough for sitting still on a table. You can see how it's supposed to be mounted in the product pictures.
The guy has the picture up on screen in front of him and still doesnt fit it right. This kind of tripe can be annoying. Yes the keyboard is pants, but at least use it right.
If i'm not mistaken, you're not allowed to rebrand existing products on Kickstarter and Indiegogo any longer. There's a possibility that the campaign ran before this was a common scheme and the platforms changed terms due to backlash. I wonder though, is it the case that it's an existing product? I mean it could be a joint venture. Get the project rolling off the ground with crowdfunding money, make custom tooling and build a production pipeline with that with a partner in China, and THEN sell the product under multiple brands (each with some kind of region limitation) with different pricing? Which would be completely fine actually. I mean normally whenever someone rebrands a product that already exists during the campaign, someone just looks on Baidu and Taobao, and then there's a big outcry.
im pretty sure they just bought some fakeass keyboards from Huaqiangbei and put em on indiegogo as their own product, that's why the writings are taped(no damn way it's real cherry). *lawsuit inbound~~~~~*

Yeah, as hilarious as it was seeing him struggle with the bracket, I'm sort of morbidly curious if it would actually have held the Ipad as advertised if he had installed it the right way around. It is obviously an awful product anyways though.
If you need to close-up examine a product photo to figure out how to install a bracket... then it's the manufacturer's fault. As Linus said, there was NO manual included.. so if an above-average person like Linus (despite his goofy clumsy appearance, he probably has handled and installed more tech products than most of us) cannot figure out how to install it within a minute.. then the product is flawed or should have had a manual/setup pamphlet.
That Keyboard you opened up last. As soon as you pulled it out, I was like, "Oh damn, that's a cheap piece of junk." That Onyx one looked really awesome though.
Another Classic example of someone finding a product on Alibaba then putting it up on indiegogo. I found a listing for this thing in 2 minutes, you can get 10+ at $110 a piece.
Interest in antique typewriters has been skyrocketing lately (along with the prices) which is probably a big part of the reason these things are cropping up all over the place now (it's what brought me here). The Rymek keyboard seems to be a cheaper knockoff of the Qwerkywriter, which raised a bunch of money on kickstarter back in 2014. Much like the Rymek, the Qwerkywriter also has a replica paper tray (that's what that flimsy aluminum "something" is supposed to be) and a replica return lever (the other "more different aluminum something"), with the added bonus that they actually work. The paper tray will support the weight of a phone/tablet, and the return lever actually functions as an enter key would. Fans of typewriters will recognize the keycaps that the Rymek is sporting as being inspired by the Royal Quiet Deluxe, which introduced Dreyfuss keys (designed by Henry Dreyfuss), or as they are more commonly called tombstone keys (because they look like little tombstones). But, for some reason, Rymek put them upside down... Being someone who is interested in both typewriters and mechanical keyboards myself, I am dying for a good tombstone key keycap set, and it blows my mind that Rymek would make a product so off base that it could actually be disappointing to both keyboard enthusiasts and typewriter enthusiasts.
@@Shazam0527 On the other hand, no manual. They had to remove it because it used the real name of the product. But a but more fiddling around might have gotten it right.
well, that wooden keyboard actually looks really nice! :D But that other strange plastic one looks just awful, the lightning is awful, the plastic just looks ultra cheap, way to much key wiggle, and a ultra cheap white usb cable?! umm no! who would buy that?
definitely not me, I went through building my own board to something more ergonomic, but way cheaper. But about the wobbble, I must say I have printed several versions of keycap to get it right. While the version I am using now may not be perfect, the part that clips onto the MX Stem fits just right, I still have wobble, but looking at it, the wobble comes from the switch itself. My point is, at least with MX switches, you will have wobble no matter what.
I think the reason it got so much support it's because people thought they were going to be using mechanical pieces inside of it by myself really do like the feel of a typewriter but there isn't really much in the way of having that same feel for computers
The Indigogo reached 1754% funding! They were looking for $20,000. That is the capital they reasonably thought they needed to bring this product to market. If you believe in their product fund 125%, 150%, heck even 200%, but what did the backers hope to gain by funding them 1754%? Do they honestly think they are going to bet a 17x better product? Maybe each keyboard will come with a girlfriend that likes video games and makes pizza appear out of thin air. *End rant.*
Are you a complete idiot? That's the minimal amount. They basically say "we will dropship you rebranded chinese keyboards when we reach AT LEAST 200 orders". That does not mean they wouldn't ship 2000 units, if demanded. Just 2000 costs more. It's not like people invest into company shares, they actualy pre-order a product.

I bought the Elwood for myself, it’s my middle name, a few years ago. It was expensive but it has been rock solid and I get compliments on it all the time.
Yeah he had it the right way there for a while, dunno why he changed it, he saw the results. Good example why including assembly instructions would be a good idea.
What does that have to do with mechanical keyboards...? The mechanical part of a mechanical keyboard is just the key switches. A mechanical keyboard doesn't look any different, it just means it has mechanical switches.
I guess that the metal bar was assembled with the wrong orientation. As you can see, the ends that are attached to the keyboard are bent outwards and if you assemble it with the bent part facing the keyboard, the plastic bit will be touching the device you put on the stand as intended. Hope that the explanation was clear.
The Rymek isn’t as bad as he makes it look. He put the iPad holder on backwards and that’s why it didn’t hold the iPad and why the iPad didn’t touch the rubber pad.
You guys are mad, I see an overpriced shitty, glossy looking "typewriter" keyboard and the key caps is horrible Dont need to say that to justify buying this shitty keyboard 😛😛😛
I wish he would revisit this, apparently KnewKey has released new models in the two years since this video, and it looks like the quality has improved a lot. Also that lever on the upper left corner is to switch between Bluetooth devices, and the knob on the right is the on/off switch and the volume dial
Agreed. Got this 2 months ago & it came in better packaging & a manual. Was able to figure out the stand for the back before seeing the manual though. Plus the price went down to half. It’s definitely an improvement. Also based on some comments on here the one he reviewed may be a KnewKey knockoff…
@@____KB the rubber stopper he mentioned that his ipad "doesnt even sit on" is more likely something to pin the ipad up than a surface to sit on. The holes in the rack suggest it screws in.... somehow. As much as I love LTT, sometimes Linus has some oversights.
The reason manufacturers still uses microUSB Type-B and the like is because they buy it in large bulks to save money and it allows newer products to share components with older products, simplifying the logistics and manufaction process of the new product. It makes little sense to stock up Type-C when you have a lot or older products using Type-B still being manufactored, and why make changes when it does little to no improvements of the product; A keyboard doesn't need Type-C's bandwidth of 10Gbps for example. microUSB Type-B also have broader compatibility, broadening the potential market and therefore profit.
Another reason is that the profit margins are slim, and a penny saved is quite literally a penny earned- The total production cost of a $80 (retail) keyboard is less than $10. So those 15 cents are 1-2% of the total production cost.
I agree. Reviewers always condemn lack of Usb-C but so many people still arent really there with type c connectivity. I live in the U.S and JUST got my hands on a ohone that uses type c
I got the Rymek for my birthday and my mum filmed a video of me using it. They then reposted the video without permission or credit. 10/10 keyboard btw, the manual was included in mine and the 'handle' is supposed to prop up your screen (ok) and yes indeed, the metal thing just sits there, but linus put it in the wrong way sooo... Edit: the keyboard's charging port broke and we asked them if they could fix it. It cost less to buy a new keyboard from them. I decided not to ship it to China but instead bought a steelseries apex pro.
Okay so the typewriter one the metal piece that holds the iPad was backwards that's why it isn't touching the rubber Linus had it right the first time and then he flipped it around the thing still is horrible but just to be fair it will hold the iPad without it falling ....
Even though Linus can be a nutty perfectionist, I appreciate how he can be sent free stuff then publicly shit on it. He's a genuine dude and I appreciate that.
I have an azio retro mk in black and gold, I honestly love it a lot. When I code and write it is comfy, nice, metallic, and heavy, even though it took a bit to get used to with the rounded keys. It’s a super cool keyboard, and definitely recommend to anyone looking for a solid typewriter keyboard
Harold M I remember the day Ellipse first made his Model F thread over on Deskthority. No one could quite believe that it was happening, since the more conventional tenkeyless and 60% layout Model F boards were extremely rare at the time. The were others you could get, of course (I personally loved the giant, "space-unsaver" board which seemed like a battleship with all the macro keys up top), but they all had strange layouts due to their age. Honestly though, I never liked the switch quite as much as the membrane buckling springs in the Model M. They felt heavier and more resistant to me than the Model F keys, that just gave way way with a little force. Its a weird taste, but hey, I can't change what I like. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Harold M I’m sure you’ll love it too. I’m in the extreme minority to prefer the M. As for a quiet board, you likely have to add o-rings or dampeners to get it closer to silent. I personally just use a linear Cherry Red board (old, non-RGB era K95) as my gaming/quiet board. It works out well.
True typewriter like keyboards should have a push distance of several centimeters between 2,5 and 3,0 cm is would say. And yes they should cost some effort to push. The typewriter keys were very tough because you need the energy to slam a piece of metal in a curve onto inky tape that leaves the ink on the sheet.
Damn that white and copper looks really good. That is the only color scheme that I would consider buying something in white. Same goes for the pearl white OnePlus 6. Looks so good
I just got the Azio Keyboard, and it was DOA. Then I just lost confidence in the built quality of the product so I returned it. Honestly to me, the design was cool but the quality felt like worse than $50 keyboard. The box was inserted in the sleeve backward when it arrived, keycaps were uneven, I had keycaps and switches in the mac mode while my manual said the factory default will be in the PC mode, and it wouldn't power on. All in all, they were all small issues and I could've replaced it with the new one. But with all the small signatures combined, I got the impression that the company doesn't really invest in the Quality Control/Assurance of the product and I didn't want to keep it. Might as well return it when I'm still within the return period.

Linus, you have the metal stand on the back backwards. It stands up straighter.
I will take a minute to appreciate that you found out!
it should be clear, or atleast not insertable backwards. still a crappy chinese rebranded product
Cherry OEMed the cardboard boxes, so it's cool.
Apparently chinese laws are fked. You cant sue them easily, hence why there are so many chinese games that are complete rip offs of existing games.

Read it somewhere deep in the comments, but this is a rebranded (if you can even call it that when you're taping things) hellboy mx520. Maybe original product didn't sell well, Vinpok decided to re-brand and create indiegogo campaign for income, and to build hype.
a quick image search tells me that's exactly what they did

If you need to close-up examine a product photo to figure out how to install a bracket... then it's the manufacturer's fault.
As Linus said, there was NO manual included.. so if an above-average person like Linus (despite his goofy clumsy appearance, he probably has handled and installed more tech products than most of us) cannot figure out how to install it within a minute.. then the product is flawed or should have had a manual/setup pamphlet.

While the version I am using now may not be perfect, the part that clips onto the MX Stem fits just right, I still have wobble, but looking at it, the wobble comes from the switch itself. 7:03 They are literally Gateron switches, Linus.
The answer was literally in your face.

But what about wireless capability? Yay for PC Jr!
