This is an awesome tutorial!! Played around with it today and this seems right up the alley of what I need!! Thanks again for the awesome tutorials, I'm definitely moving in the right direction forward. A few things I gotta tweak to get it where I want. Appreciate you so much for putting these out to help the community!!
Glad you enjoyed it, the only catch with this method is if you don't line up your stencils perfectly then you'll notice the gaps between layers. That's why the new plugin has the layers overlapping and getting smaller towards the top. Makes it much easier for beginners.
@@WickedPaint how can I contact you directly for questions? If you're up for it. Want to incorporate stencils in my projects and looking for the best way to do so. This is closest to how I want the stencils to come out but I'm so new at this so I'm up for anything that will help. I've seenost of your tutorials and trying to test the all out. I like the way the colors and layers come out with this one though so I'm up for any suggestions
Could I plz ask how you go about images with lots of islands as I have a griffin image I’d like to do but there’s a lot of islands that I need to keep in place and I’m using the cameo 4 to do the stencils thanks for taking the time to read many thanks ash
Yeah if you check my new spiderman stencil video you can skip to the part where I talk about islands and hiding them behind the layers above. Creating islands is the most time consuming part of making stencils as there is no easy way to do it but really important as it makes painting so much easier. I've heard lots of good things about the Cameo and would really like to try one out. The only thing that is a real let down with the Cricut is the software that comes with it.
Yeh I gotta admit the cameo is amazing bud I have done some really cool things on it so far and Tysm for getting back to me about it I’m sorry for the late reply iv been supa busy recently I’m goin to watch that vid now many thanks
Pretty sick. The explanation was simple and informative 👌🏼 I have been seeing ppp do this on tik tok and you ask them how to do it and they want to act like gatekeepers for this type of art🤦🏻♂️. Thanks again I will subscribe.
Thanks very much! Now that you know the secrets you can show those gatekeepers a thing or two and give them a run for their money😉 Feel free to tag me if you create something cool using these vids as I'd love to see it.
Thanks for sharing this program, it makes it easier than with other programs, I have to explore more options, and add the right bridges because I cut the layers by hand, but in general, it's awesome thanks again ;)
Glad to hear the video helped you out and its always worth exploring different option to see what gets the best results. I'll probably do another one using photoshop with a really high res image for more detail sometime in the future. Cutting by hand is something I used to do alot when I was younger and had the time. My wife got one of these machines recently and I saw it as the perfect opportunity to get back into it and cut a few stencils.
Fantastic explanation. Thank you ! How do add those register marks at the same spot on each layer? And I don’t see how you used the crosses register marks when spraying?
Glad the video helped you out, I usually set up the register marks on one layer and then copy them across to the rest making sure they are in the same spot. I use them for cutting to make sure each layer is the correct scale and spraying to line up each layer.
Thanks mate, it's the comments like this that make it all worthwhile. I am just getting started on the next one which will have a lot of detail and will be bigger too, so keep an eye out for that in the next couple of months.
Awesome tutorial! One question tough: how do you align everything properly when spraying? I did not the the + marks in the cardboard stencils during the time lapse of you spraying, so were you just eyeballing it?
Busted!! I knew someone with a keen eye would notice it eventually! Yeah I forgot to add the registration marks on this stencil so I had to eyeball it when lining up the stencils...still came out ok though but I always make sure to add registration marks in my videos these days.
HI, its awesome video, i was waiting for ideas like that, 👍🏼 is possibole to use photoshop softwear to make colorful multi-layer subjects like that or that program you use are beter and more practical ?
Thank you, I used this software because it is free and anyone can get it. You can do the same thing in photoshop and my next stencil project video will be done in photoshop.
Amazing video, want to give this a try. Could you do a simple cartoon style character like Scrooge McDuck, that would require less layers (i guess) and fits a pop art style? Great work!
Great idea! Using a cartoon would make this much easier and make it easier to organise the layers too. I should probably do one for beginners in one of my future videos.
Thanks, to get the stencils to be the same size add a marker in each corner like a + on every layer in the same place. You can use the dimension of these markers to make sure each layer is cut at the same size and then also use them to line up each layer when your painting to make sure its really accurate. Hope that makes sense and helps you out!
@dormaettu302 the one I have programmed can do 12 which gives you really realistic results. I could programmed it to do more easily but not sure why you would want it as most paint manufacturers only make up to 12 grey tones.
Hi Thanks for checking it out and glad it was helpful. I was using version 0.92.4 and then they changed it soon after which is annoying. I will definitely update the video when I have a bit more time to do so.
Hi I am wanting to make a 16 colour image into a stencil so I can spray it, but when I move each stencil to a each layer some of the layers are the same and it did not separate into the shapes/layers I wanted.
Hi, I have never tried that many layers before but it has happened to me with some images where the stencils didn't capture the detail I wanted. One thing you could do is create the stencils as the software does it but then add a layer with the details you want created by hand.
I was using version 0.92.4 and then they changed it right after I made this video which is annoying. I will definitely update the video when I have a bit more time to do so.
Smart man! You can also take a look at my Spiderman stencil in Cricut as that is also free software or if you want to be the best then the realistic photoshop stencil video will take your skills to the top of the game!
I followed ur steps but I think my stencil came out backwards but I’m not sure. It was hard to follow the tutorial bc ink scape changed their layout. Could u do another tutorial with the updated Inkscape version? Please
Hi Thanks for checking it out and glad it was helpful. I was using version 0.92.4 and then they changed it soon after which is annoying. I will definitely update the video when I have a bit more time to do so.
Yeah I guess you could. The only limitation would be the print bed size which on most printers can be a bit small. Personally I prefer thick paper as at least it can be recycled easily after I'm finished with it.
@@WickedPaint Yeah, I just used the online stencil generator, and made them in Fusion 360. Haven't tried printing yet, but they look flawless when sliced. And yeah, I guess if I want something bigger I will split each stencil into pieces, and then simply glue them together.
Awesome, the other thing you could do is 3d print each layer of the artwork using different colour fulfillment. Depending on the depth you made each layer you could create some next level stencil artwork!
@@WickedPaint Is there a limit to how many layers I can have with this method? Also, is there any particular order I organize these layers in? Does it have to be darkest to lightest, or can I paint them in any order?
When you import your image an option box should pop up, make sure you have the Embed option ticked on and then the trace bitmap options should appear. If you still can't see it then try hitting the Control+Alt+B at the same time and see if the option pops up.
Hi Chris, you can send me an email at wickedpaintairbrush@gmail.com if you like and I can take a look. Maybe they released a new version of the software that is a bit different. I used version 0.92 in this video.
The best tutorial ive seen on youtube!

It looks like you only have markers on the first layer?
