A good tip for folks if you want sharper lines, keep your cut out pieces and adhere them to your painting after it is dry, and respray the background color.

I appreciate it! It’s my honor to make these videos, I hope it helps you make amazing stencils 👍 I do take custom requests, you can contact me on Instagram @youngwarrior_fineart
I feel like editing the picture in the software is just an extra step not necessary.. if you project the picture onto a screen just make your corrections and additions there
The effect is AMAZING! defs dropped a like, as an artist the left arm, or lack there of is triggering my OCD tho XD U should definitely do a DBZ character, if u do the PLEASE do Vegeta, Goku as been done way to many times
No worries! Yes the video is getting old lol. Multiple layers can be made at the same point when you’re drawing out the stencil from the projector. Basically you make color areas that will be below the main stencil and fill the areas you want color in. I do hope to make another video on that exact idea 👍
I tried doing stencils and I always end up with my outcome smudged or running, I'm not sure if I'm spraying too close or not letting the background dry enough which I'm sure I am. The outcome just doesn't come out as sharp.
Yo Infamous I appreciate the comment! This is likely the greatest challenge in stencil making, I have tried many methods in the effort to get the most crisp lines and short of using vinyl that is adhesive backed, each method has its drawbacks. My best advice if you are spraying vertically, like in this video, press the stencil close the surface with your free hand and be very subtle with your paint, it is easy to spray too much especially if the can is too close. I have had the best results spraying stencils horizontally however, weighing the stencil down from the top and spraying gingerly that way! Hope it helps!
I have found that a spray adhesive sprayed thinnly on the back of the stencil works awesome. Wait for the adhesive to almost dry 4-5 mins, then its tacky. But doing this method you have to let each layer dry fully
dolphintv dolpintv I use an xacto, they are very sharp so you don’t need to use much pressure and make sure you have something beneath the stencil so you don’t cut up your table.
Hey sorry about the not getting back sooner! I use an ExquizOn projector, its okay quality but i have used an old school overhead projector in the past which works very well. Hope it helps!
Have you seen me before? I use an xacto knife, specifically the larger #2 blade and handle. Be very careful if you use this type of cutting tool because they are literally some of the sharpest in the world.
You’re welcome! Yeah they aren’t too expensive but I would recommend extra blades because the whole point of using a very sharp knife is to get clean cuts that won’t rip the paper, so you will need to replace them every so often as they dull or break.
I use 22x28inch heavy weight poster board for the painting surface and for the stencil. I use rustoleum, montana, and liquitex spray paint all found in different places but most hobby supply stores have these materials as well as big box stores like target, walmart, home depot, and hobby lobby. Best of luck :)
@@youngwarriorfineart you mentioned something about tracing paper. What type of tracing paper and what size? Also you mentioned something about an projector? Which one? What type of stand are you using in your video?
dbz mini yes tracing paper is a good option, any kind of transparent paper will do, just needs to be the exact same size as the image you want to use for the stencil, this can be harder though because sometimes you can’t make the image bigger which is why the projector is great. I have an off brand projector from amazon called an exquizon, it’s works okay. I taped the stencil paper to a board and propped it up with a painting easel, I just put my projector on a pile of books lol.
@@youngwarriorfineart ok but isn't the poster board too thick to trace the image or is that what the projector is for. Will I need an projector screen as well. I am a bit confused
dbz mini correct it would be too tough to use poster board and a light box. With a projector the poster board acts like the screen, so you draw directly on the poster board to get your cutout image 👍
Young Warrior Fine Art can I ask you another question? How long can I use a cap, until perhaps the paint clogs the cap and it needs to be replaced? Thanks!
Marco Dimario of course! Typically a cap can be used until it clogs, to prevent clogging you can turn the can upside down and spray until only air comes out, this may take 2-3 seconds but it will save your caps! Last thing though is the Rustoleum cans I use in this video can be sprayed at any angle so this trick won’t work with those.
Thank you! I apologize im not sure where the image came from, my client provided it for me. You might be able to find it with a google search, otherwise im not certain the source.
Fist Of Blur Leath25 With this stencil I knew I would be using white spray paint, so I traced out all of the white areas from the digital drawing with the projector and cut those out. Hope it helps!
@@youngwarriorfineart thanks I want to do a Beatles stencil for the side of my scooter, but its plastic and already painted black,so I think I need to sand it down 1st then respray it but I haven't got a clue. Regards Carl from England.
“Make sure to never cut towards yourself.” 1. Literally impossible more than 20% of the time. 2. The least stable position 70% of the time. 3. I’ve only ever cut myself while cutting “away” from my body. As someone who works with sharp and potentially deadly tools for a living, there are plenty of situations where cutting towards the body is the safest thing to do. Of which, almost always involves a predominant wrist action.
Joe Allen I appreciate this break down and I think you are absolutely correct. I suppose I should have said something more like: make sure your fingers are not in the cutting line of the blade.
Young Warrior Fine Art Hey partner, reading back over that I sound a bit more condescending than poking fun. Thank you for the lighthearted response, and keep producing solid content. 👍
That would be Excellent. Any suggestions of a good one? I still do like the poster board because you can get several sprays out of it but I wont exhaust any options.
@@youngwarriorfineart I use a UScutter generic one. You can get them for around $200. You can cut business card type paper with them. I’m not sure if that would be thick enough. But for sure would save u time cutting out the pieces
Kinda pointless using a stencil if the colors are gonna bleed and blend under it. Obviously you weren't happy with the result 11:45 yourself and sprayed over parts(chest at least) 11:50 but that only caused the black to bleed over the white which makes it worse IMO
LeROYtheLAMA stencils are never perfect that’s what gives them their unique look. I did go back and touch up parts that were obviously off to get the project where I like it. What I learned was the small pieces of tape don’t work the best so I use another method now that doesn’t bleed at all.
