    Such a coincidence!
    Recently started on my “ugly” Hoyas as well..
    Those are mainly plants that are in the growtent and do not need the humidity of it… such long aerial roots, not pretty!
    I mainly have that tent because of lack of proper window space (due to other people saying Hoyas are slow growers I suddenly ran out of space, since obviously they aren’t slow), shoved everything that didn’t fit and everything finicky into a small tent, but have now decided that only plants that grow prettily in the tent can stay there… as for the rest…. Ill keep the ones that I like best or am most curious about for the windows and the others can go to a new owner.
    Don’t want to install any more growlights just to keep plants in places where I actually don’t really want them.
    Its hard to be reasonable when it comes to plants 😅.
    When another hobby/collection overflows… it can be put anywhere (attic/on top of cabinets/dark corner/cubbyhole etcetc) but with plants…. they need good conditions, so thats a nice spot and a bunch of investments (lights, stands/tables/cabinets/tents, sometimes a humidifier or a fan)
    At this point… I want the plants just to be an enrichment of life 🌸

    • @soberplantguy
      @soberplantguy  2 дні тому +1

      I could not agree more--with everything here. My home is a home, first and foremost. Yes, I have a lot of plants, but it never looks overwhelming (at least to me lol). If you don't water and feed your plants until they're in distress and the leaves are thin as wax paper, yes, they will grow..... Have I mentioned that on my channel??

    • @Wubblyt
      @Wubblyt 2 дні тому +1

      @@soberplantguy Happy to hear that you keep things sane (for yourself)
      Haha yes, that advice is so wrong! But unless one stumbles upon (a channel with) decent information…. its the information that most people get when they get their first Hoyas 😖
      The recent mindshift for me is: “what do I want” and “where do I want it” in stead of “I like all these plants and now I have to find a space for them so that they are all happy” (the latter being what I have been doing for years)
      It will mean not having everything I like(d) but its such a more relaxing and comfortable approach (and an ongoing process 😂)

    Well, another highly informative video. I am learning so much from you. I received an order of Hoyas the same week as the ones I got from you. Some of that shipment are doing fantastic, others not so much (the Hai Phong I got from you that same week is showing more roots, I can feel that Jennifer is rooting but can't see any roots yet). You have answered a pressing question I had about checking the roots of the order not from you. I am going to give the "slow" ones a couple of weeks to show me something and then I'll check them out. Or maybe I should just go ahead and do it now because I got the supplies to make your substrate and some of the plants are still in what they were shipped in. Can you kindly advise me?

    • @soberplantguy
      @soberplantguy  2 дні тому +3

      I always put plants into my substrate straight away. I find that way I’ll reduce the risk of root rot, or potentially find problems early. Glad to hear that “our” plants are doing well !

    Hi, I have dilemma. Being a newbie back into growing plants and learning about hoyas, I planted them into a very dense potting mix. All my small ones have been repotted into a chunky mix. My question is about my biggest one ( a publicalyx) . The top is growing but I don't see any roots through the clear pot. And I probably should have used a smaller pot. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Would you just take the bull by the horns and repot in a chunky mix? Most of the ones I repotted had not the greatest root systems. 😢

    • @soberplantguy
      @soberplantguy  День тому +2

      In my experience, anyway, nothing good comes from waiting for things to improve when potted up into a too-dense substrate. So, yes, *I* would get that plant into a more suitable substrate. That's me. I am unafraid to grab the horns, however 😆
