RIP AND TEAR. Big thanks to every one that joined me over on twitch while I streamed Brutal Doom! Come give a follow if you want to hang out in the future! www.twitch.tv/jarek4gamingdragon
Edit 1: The tile warping is happening because, as I said, I'm playing zdoom. YOU CAN NOT RUN ZDOOM IN HARDWARE MODE. That's an option you can only choose in GZDoom, which doesn't work for me. I said all this in the video.
Edit 2: YES I GET IT. Apparently the modder is a bad person. *I do not care.* You can still play the mod, without giving him money, and enjoy it.

One nitpick about whether DOOM 2016 stole glory kills from BD. The scarce leaked gameplay of first alphas and pre-alphas of the Doom game that was canceled (the one about Hell on Earth and heavily inspired by COD) contained most of the glory kills seen in 2016, and it was under development in like 2009-2010 (before getting scrapped), while BD came to existence in 2011.
So, no, it's pretty much certain that BD did not inspire the glory kill system.

    • @joshwist556
      @joshwist556 3 роки тому +64

Even if it was stolen, they did the mechanic justice by making it fast and give weight by giving you health. In brutal doom, it was used for spectacles and it was pretty cool but useless when you just wanna fist imps.

Yeah DNF had them and gave you health back for it, but they were slower and you could take damage while you did them

I don't really agree with the statement that you *need* patch mods before playing Bethesda games originally, at least in Skyrim and Fallout 4s case. I've played both (though no Fallout 4 DLC yet) without any issues that mods would fix, and if I did come across any they weren't game breaking. I also use what is called the reanimation pack for the weapons so that they look and feel more realistic, like the grenade launcher on the MP5 having an actual reload animation and so on. There is also a mod I use which has the HGrunts look more like their Opposing Force/Gearbox counterparts for the sake of consistency.

Few nitpicky things to point out (I'm a long-time Doom player too) :
    - It's not necessarily a totally complete overhaul (or Total Conversion), it's a gameplay mod that can deal with any map you throw at it, with exception to maps that chained with DeHackEd tweaks. (Note that HoE Starter Pack is a separate WAD and more often shipped separately)
    - For starters, Brutal Doom is NOT compatible with source ports other than ZDoom derivatives. Don't expect it to work on something like PrBoom+, Choco Doom, Cripsy Doom, and even Bethesda's Unity port (which, in fact, still retains the Doom engine at it's vanilla - it's closer to Crispy Doom with vanilla limitations intact)
    - Because Brutal Doom is ZDoom only, that means you can't be seriously competitive with it. Classic Doom's speedrunning scene does not allow ZDoom derivatives due to how distant its modification from the vanilla engine is. Therefore, if you want to get serious and jump in to the competition legally, use source ports that is faithful to the vanilla engine, either PrBoom+, Choco Doom, or Crispy Doom. This is due to how the scene validates runs for the past 27 years - using vanilla compatible demo files (consist of sequence of inputs)

And if you really want to suffer, play BD on Tactical Shooter mode with Realism Hard (UV) difficulty. Can only dual wield pistols and plasma rifles. No auto reloading: must press reload key to reload even if empty. Recoil and weapon spread make ADS required for long range accuracy. Slows player default speed down and adds a sprint function that is VERY GENEROUS, IMO. Realism makes the player take 700% damage, so even pistol rounds are something to dread. (play smart) Hard makes the level use the Ultra Violence difficulty spawns. NOTE: Some maps are basically unplayable on Realism mode due to hurt floors doing a TON of damage.

I hate and love some old shooters because they are adrenalinic, but feel dated and modern shooters because they feel repetitive and unoriginal, but have more realistic mechanics. Brutal Doom is the best FPS i have ever played imo since it feels old and new, fixing both style of shooters flaws and maintains its positives, while adding so much blood and violence that i love it.
If original Doom is a 7 or 8 imo, then Brutal Doom is a 9.

I've actually played Brutal Doom before I played the actual Doom 1, and it made me appreciate both Brutal Doom but also Doom 1, and Final Doom, also Doom 2 but I just see it more as a tool to create mods and maps for it since the stock Doom 2 maps are... **questionable.** I just think Brutal Doom is a different game than Doom 1, since the gameplay is changed so much, there is so much stuff added and changed that it is more of a modern-type shooter to me. I don't like modern shooters, but Brutal Doom is the only good one that I know of. Also, you CAN start with Brutal Doom, just know that your skill in Brutal Doom won't translate to any unmodified classic Doom game. It's an especially good way to get into the classic games if you haven't played the classic games but have played the new Doom games!

  • @dweller132

As an alternative to drag & drop, ZDoom Launcher (ZDL) also works. It's basically a launcher and kind-of a mod manager, so you don't have to drag & drop files onto GZDoom or ZDoom. You basically add the game WADs, the sourceport, and the mod WADs to it, and you can start Doom from it.
(Note: Load order is important to a degree when adding multiple mods. And if you want to add mods alongside Brutal Doom or Project Brutality, refer to the ReadMe's that come with them for load order.)
