I would recommend playing the unofficial update for BD64, v2.666. It adds new monsters (some from Doom 3, some from Quake, some originals), new maps, new looks, and numerous revisions.
It has proper Doom 64-style sprites for the Archvile, Revenant, and Spider Mastermind (which were missing in D64) _plus_ a deadlier variant of the latter.

In my weird head canon I like to think that Doom 3 happens between 64 and 2016, consistent with the release order. After 64, Doom Guy stays in hell to fight demons until he gets betrayed and captured. While imprisoned, Doom 3 happens, where you play a different marine(s) and you see and read tablets about the Doom Guy and his exploits in hell as this legendary warrior wielding the Soul Cube. Then in 2016, Doom Guy is released from his imprisonment and his saga continues...well, until Eternal´s DLC happened.
Now we have a canon game that takes place between 64 and 2016.
lol you guys need to stop your fanfictions trying to fit Doom 3 in the timeline. Doom 3 is and was always meant to be a reboot, it's not gonna be canon.

I actually love to think 3 is also a prequel because when the original Doom starts the base is already infested. I also think the guy in the 3rd game isn't the same marine, he gets dragged back to hell and devoured.

@@Armstrong84 The guy in the 3rd game survives. You actually play as a different character in the original Doom 3 and in the two expansions (similar to Quake 2)
There is actually a fan update to the mod called version 666

Every time I see Doom3 mentioned I usually start replaying it. It's easily my favourite Doom game.

@@papalegba6796 To high school me in 2005 that shit was as real as it got. I literally screamed at that part where you first encounter the two Hell Knights. My parents came running into the room thinking I'd been stabbed or something haha. Now I've played it so many times I just breeze through it but the first time you play it when it was new... that was insane. I had not played anything like that before.
That cat and mouse level in Doom64 still haunts my dreams.

If you guys want a Nintendo 64 "port" of the original Doom and Doom 2, there's a mod called D64ifier that converts the PC versions' graphics and sounds to that of Doom 64 so basically PS1 Doom with the N64 graphics.
And if you want Brutal gameplay on top, D64ifier's "Core" module is compatible with BD64.

i little note for hellhounds, they were actually considered to be new enemy type in in doom 64 but again, limitations of nintendo 64 didn`t allow it, i mean we didn`t see revenants, archviles and spider masterminds because of that, it`s nice to see brutal doom trying to bring back cut enemies but

My fan theory for 3 is that it’s a branching timeline that led to the same hell, and the guy on the tablets and in the one sarcophagus is the original Doomguy, while you’re just another marine.
It's not a fan theory, it's fanfiction. Doom 3 is a reboot, it's not canon.

First time I've played Brutal Doom 64 was the same day I got Titanfall 2 back in 2016, such a great day.

In my opinion, by far the best Brutal mod, maybe BDv22 is a close second, but I think the stuff in BWolf are incredibly when implemented and the mod feels more polished than most other Brutal mods, also it features a full campaign, a rarity in Brutal mods. You and your team did an amazing job on that.
Brutall Doom 64 V2.666 is the most current version, and it's really good :)

You'll be happy to know there's a big update to Brutal Doom 64, which is version 2.666 that is almost finished! It is made by a team of modders with permission from Sgt. Mark.

Glad to see this one getting showcased properly. The more languid pace of vanilla D64 isn't really for everyone and I'm glad this exists to offer some spice to that experience
The thing that makes me think DOOM 3 is indeed canon and the first game in the series is the fact you have the soul cube in Eternal on a desk in one of the rooms in the hub, and also, despite people saying they dont look alike at all, I still find Doomguy in Eternal incredibily similar to the Marine from Doom 3. But the soul cube is the biggest hint for me

Yo it's irl jarek, so sad that there's no iconic hat though. One day we have to get a toggle for the dragon model to have it.
There is of course the add-ons to brutal doom 64 Ive seen that does of course further refine the mod and adds in new enemy variants and some unique ones like a new boss monster that looks a bit like Korax from Hexen just in the style of Doom 64.

Because for me this features a little breaks the immersion in the og brutal doom mod. Also hellhound reminds me the same enemy from Heroes of Might and Magic 5, there was also a hound with two heads (at first level) :) By the way, it's great to see a channel maskot is actually animated)) Looks great))
Doom 64 and Brutal Doom 64 are horror themed. Adding glory kills and insults would take away from the horror immersion.

Although I like the idea of Doom 3 being canonically (and thematically) the first game, that makes id even worse at counting than Valve. So the order the games are numbered is: 3, 1, 2, 64, 2016, Eternal.

Nice video, also, some comments are right, you should give a shoot to BD64 2.666 version. Its well polished, has new stuff, REALLY good sprites for monsters and more.
Doom 64's monsters have much more of claymation look compared to regular Doom, so it makes sense that Blood's monsters fit so well.
Also, I like the idea of Doom 3 being a prequel, showing how it all went down on Mars proper before Doomguy arrived on Phobos.

This was my first experience with Doom 64. Really fun mod. But I think it needs a new update to add the new levels from the rerelease and to polish some stuff.
You should check out Doom 64 CE project void. It adds many of the enemies and weapons from Brutal Doom.

I have to say that you have some of the most based opinions on games. Boneworks is your favourite VR game, you didn't like Doom 64's ambient tracks... hot take or not, I wasn't a fan of them either.
I mean, the ambient tracks are good, I just thought classic doom style music would have been better.
@@Jarekthegamingdragon Yeah, I agree. There is absolutely a charm to the ambient tracks, but the gameplay didn't suit them. Your point about the tactical mode complimenting the ambient music was excellent, I'll definitely check out this mod.
This was music style Midway games went with. The PSX version of Doom also has a similar ambient soundtrack from the same composer.
In my opinion it made the games feel a bit more like survival horror than action.

Have you tried Brutal Wolfenstein 3D? It is a reallt fun Doom WAD to play and it includes several episodes including The Spear of Destiny.

Totally. Doom 64 never really held my attention past the first 7 or 8 levels. It just felt off to me. Brutal Doom 64 on the other hand got me to play all the way to the end. Loved it.
A slight tidbit, I always assume Doom 3 does happen but on the side of sorts, like Doom 3 is its own thing and the Doom marine in that game is his own person.

Why does it feel like there is Ray Tracing or something enabled? Does Doom64 really look this good vanilla or it's just the Brutal mod?
I think Doom 64 was less popular because it was released only on Nintendo 64 at a time where FPS games were not that great with a controller. I wanted that game so much on PC. It was already an improvement visually and felt more a proper Doom 2 than Hell on Earth which felt like an expansion of the original Doom. We had to wait 2020 for a proper Doom 64 release on PC, and he met some success.

....I always figured Doom 3 IS Doom 1... basically they went back to visit the original story with all the stuff they wanted to the firsy time, but took out for the sake of game speed and available tech.
Doom 3 is both a remake and reboot. It's named "3" because Carmack wasn't a fan of Doom 64 so they called it that way to point it was the official third doom. But it's a remake/reboot.
Edit: for everyone's edification, the "laser gun" is named the Unmaker in game. Neat collectable

OMG, doom 3 being first makes so much sense, the slayer was just getting into the fight. ALSO. "have you ever fisted a baron of hell" I died. Brutal doom is showing realism in a fake world. People fire miniguns from the hip in real life have recoil. The gun is built to handle recoil, but it still kicks.
I would say its better not only in the visuals but it has that more gothic look how ever it suffers from having less enemies at once on the maps due to the cartridge limitation on the n64 but with brutal doom you can add mods adding in so much higher textures and enemies but i do prefer doomn64 ce version
