So let me get this straight: there were problems with the original design, so Whirlpool expects us to go out and spend money on the replacement “Heavy duty” stainless steel rack adjuster because they screwed up and used plastic to begin with? And then we have to fix it ourselves or pay someone else to fix it? Maybe this should’ve been recalled.

Important information missing in this video! Mentioned by both Jay and Steph, thank you. I had to reference the paper instructions to see that the metal piece must thread up through the plastic body or it will NOT snap in place.

Careful when he says "nests right into the rack" What he forgets to mention is that the metal piece that is attached to the wheels has to sort of thread up into the plastic body. Had he said this for this IMPORTANT step, I would have finished this in under 10 minutes. The second side was a breeze, but I had to use another video to be sure of the metal to plastic fitting.

This video misses a few steps to actually get the rack repaired. First, he installed the clips backward. That’s not a huge deal as it can work that way, but it does cause some misalignment. More importantly the metal piece has to slide into the grooves on the plastic adjuster before attaching the cap. In this video the adjuster is not actually connected to the metal component and will not function at all.

This official video is wrong , the ajuster body has to slide into the metal piece if not it doesn't fit perfectly , if you look at the video he doesn't slide into the groves of the adjuster body he just put them on top an that way it doesn't close perfectly.

    • @carlmontney7916

This very helpful. The only issue is at the 3 minute mark, it isn't explained that the metal piece of the adjuster rack that sits inside of the adjustment body needs to slide between some tabs and click into place, or it won't fit properly. In the video they just kind of loosely assemble it together, which won't actually work. Great video otherwise.

is there any way someone can get a part of the kit instead of having to get the entire one? At 1:02, you are removing a face plate contraption (I don't know what it's called). That's all I need. It would be much easier to just snap one in place than have to pay 6 times more for the kit and have to go to the extent of replacing the entire kit. I know the adjuster kit has been redesigned but perhaps if some company you know that sells old parts is still around, is it possible to get the part?

Thank you for the basics as the factory instructions are vague. Unfortunately, the way that this rack is repaired in this video does not allow for rack height adjustment. One needs to be careful to have the thumb pad facing the front of the rack and the vertical portion of the adjustor arm needs to be slid completely into the adjustor body - as seen in Figure 6 of the instructions.

Once it was put together correctly everything worked great.

if it was truly a OEM piece for this rack , it would be a complete plastic assemblie - the original piece was all composite plastic- not metal - so is Whirlpool stating the plastic is crap from beginning and that's why they have metal replacement or is whirlpool try to scam consumers by having this made by a third party chinese company and this is what they are trying to shove at people
