@@danstlaurent9907 thanks mate. Yeah there's lots of visual queues that can be used . It's alot of fun practicing them. Door off is definitely the best in a 500.
I think this is a good idea for showing VR recordings, because if you show the first-person footage as the main focus, it can make people feel motion sick if they're not there.
Great video and tips for practice. Nice scenery to show it off. You are really good at handling the Shrike😱 I feel like I am nitpicking on you a lot 🙈 but if you are aiming for us beginner it would be nice if you explained how you balance the helicopter on the slope. I have tried this on a slope and depending on the wind or some kind of draft I really needed to balance with the cyclic like in hover. Thanks again for the series of videos🙏
@@MagnusThornberg thanks alot. Yeah toe in landings take abit of practice but basically once you have the toes in the ground, lower collective and tilt the disc into the slope, same for a sideways one skid. Lowering collective and tipping the disc in helps plant the part of the skid you have there firmly so your not light and moving around. Watch the rotor clearance on steep stuff tho. 😅
Thanks. I have an AMD RC 7900xtx gpu. Yours shouldn't be lagging with a 4090. Something must be causing it. I can run relatively high settings too. I'm also running my own custom 1m resolution terrain mesh in areas as well.
@@jonallsop7502 Just judging how far. If you look how far they are out front when your stopped on the ground sometime. It's not too hard judging the distance in VR.
It's based on an old max flight stick one. I've redesigned and 3D Printed my own grip for it and swapped all the buttons over so it replicates a 500. Max flight sticks do have a 500 style set but it's not even close to the real thing.
Sloped landings takeoff you position the cyclic to keep the rotor blades level, it wouldn't be in a neutral position. But I expect that isn't modeled. Shame desktop sims for helicopters are still so poor. Whoever did that model of MD500 the pilot is sitting in the wrong seat.
@@Kiwi_Dave yeah the takeoff and rotor position is something I'm still practicing to get right. This sim is getting better all the time in regards to helicopters. Tweaked flight models can help. Most devs flight models standard are pretty sub par for realism. Taogs Huey sets a new bar for what can be done with this sim. I have only seen left seat piloted 500s in NZ.😉
@@simonclark7082 Sim can only go so far, what's really missing is the feel because a lot about flying helos is all feel. Any sim I've flown except Level-D stuff feels completely disconnected from the helicopter as if you're just controlling a drone. Good for practicing procedures though, but then again so is a white board. I'm not sure how to better replicate the controls with a home sim, maybe crank the sensitive on the cyclic to an uncomfortably high setting.
Another great video. I often use the helicopters shadow for reference if possible. Door off or open is a must. Cool little pad sir.

Nice vid and a nice simrig! I can see you using VR! What framerate are you getting? I have a 4090, and its lagging.....

How do you know whether you've got enough clearance so the rotor doesn't hit the terrain?

The pilot are in the left seat in a MD500😊
