Fax Caddis Tutorial (Old version)

- [EDIT: Since this video came out I've simplified and made small changes to how I tie it. Using thinner thread and the thinner parts of the stem for the wings is the most crucial part. Here's a newer video (in Swedish) where I tie it at Sportfiskemässan 2023. • Avsnitt 66 - Fax Caddi... ]
Tutorial on how to tie the Fax Caddis. It's kind of my own pattern I think, but of course I've used techniques and ideas from other tyers!
This is my first fly tying tutorial so please give me your opinion on it and how I can make other tutorials better in the future.

Espectacular
Thank you!
Brilliant double dubbing loop! Never seen that before!
It's a cool technique but nowadays I mix deer hair and cdc in a clip and put it in a split thread. Just because it´s faster :)
Super tying
Thank you! :)
I am impressed .MORE PLEASE!!! With this COVID all around the world I find tying your flies relaxing.
Thanks! We'll see... :)
I watch a lot of fly tying videos and this is one of the best. Love the fly. So many opportunities to screw it up. You have perfected the techniques. Thank You.
Thank you so much!
Good job
Thank you!
Very nice fly and video and very clearly explaind. Good technique. We all take stuff from other tyers. I can see Marc Petit Jean in this one.
I am not so crazy about the wing it looks to roughly but thats personal preference .
That looks so good and will take me at least an hour to make and a second to lose in the trees. worth it though. Thanks
Thanks! There are shortcuts if you want to tie it faster :)
What an awesome tie and great tips. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you! There's an updated version in the description.

Awesome fly,well done
Thank you!
This fly is amazing and if there wasn't a fly already called the serial killers, your fly deserves the title. Your skill is amazing as well so thanks for the great demo. I think after making a half dozen I might be close to yours. Only maybe. You just gained another follower.
Thank you! In the description there's a link to a more recent video where I tie it with slight changes.
Outstanding

Thank you!! :)
Super video! Superfly!
Thank you!
Fantastic!!SUPER Star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for posting this, I love the way they come out! all I would add is that you can color the thread just before making those wraps, makes it easier to get that color in there without seeing the white of the thread, sort of like the resin at the end, easier to put on before you wrap :)
Thanks! You’re absolutely right! There are other things I’ve tweaked with this pattern as well since this video was published.
Great looking fly, will try and tie that one, hope l do it justice, and comes out like yours.
Thank you! I'm sure you will!
That is outstanding. Subscribed. Your videos stand on their own merit - they do not need elevator piano music. The top three fly dressers on UA-cam (Ord Clarke, McPhail, and Edwards) don't add a music overlay because they are taken seriously enough without it.
Doubling back to form a compound material dubbing loop was inspired. Well done!
Haha, noted :) Thank you!!
AMAZING! Never saw anyone make 2 dubbing loops then combine them together with a bigger dubbing loop! Great job! Please post more of these on UA-cam! (^_^)
Thanks! Yes, it can be a good way of doing it. But I actually make it a bit easier nowadays. Here is a very recent tying instruction where I have simplified or changed minor things.

That makes one fine looking caddis.
Thanks a lot!
Belter my friend all the best mate and tightlines.
Thanks!
Not a fly I would attempt but watching this video makes me feel I should, absolutely beautiful work from start to finish. Regards from 🏴🎣🎣
Thank you!
Great tutorials and flawless tying, very helpful tips and tricks! Although Instagram is nice, I hope you will continue to post some more videos here on youtube as well ;)
Thank you! Yes, maybe I will.
Very realistic!
Thanks!
Thank you for such a great informative video.
Thank you!
Шикарный мух!!!!
Thanks!
Великолепно 👍👍👍🤝
Thank you!
Put your material list in the Description Box. You'll receive more likes as tyers/viewers can instantly scan to see if they have the required materials. Your way takes 13:00 to see the materials. Also, should you desire to make changes, you can just edit them in the DB. Starting with the hook, list your materials in the order that they are tied in. That is a great tie, got to try that.
This was my first and only SBS-video almost 5 years old. But yes I would do that if I were to do more. Which I am not.
Creo que mejoraría si el contorno de las alas formado por el raquis se colorease con indeleble de el tono adecuado, es una humilde opinión. Gracias
Nowadays I use the thinner parts of the stem. That way the stem isn't as visible and the slight color change it gets when you pull the fibers isn't as obvious. But you sure can color it with a marker pen if they are too white.
Los ojos le sobran,lo demás precioso
もうコレは、アートですね!
もったいなくて使えないです。
Brilliant!
Thanks!
