Barry- thank you for this one! I've been waiting for this since last fall. 😄 Great tip on prepping the gloves too. I was doing some Aussie Hoppers last week where this would have come in handy. And I know this was a tough video to make so do know we appreciate the effort!
I feel so inadequate. As a hobby I started tying materials to small jigs as a prelude to getting into flies. I can see I have a long road ahead. Thank you for sharing your talent and insight.

Truly a beautiful pattern Mr.Clark ! A pattern I would love to see your version of is the Tan Meadow Hopper on a size 12 if you would be so kind. The Big Trout are going nuts over the Tan Meadow Hopper's and the Green/yellow Hopper's here right now....
Of course there is an extended body tool! Are you sure you are not related to the Serpent of Temptation in the Garden of Eden??? Always new tools,! I like the vinyl glove treatment! A great thing to know, thanks Barry!
Great helpful video get a professional fly ,thank you . Can I ask how you cut the gloves into strips and the small foam inserts ? Thank you for your help and all the great videos . B
Hi Barry, an amazing pattern that I would like to tie myself, please explain where I can buy the detached body tool mentioned in this vlog.Thank you in anticipation. BTW I have treated myself to a copy of The Feather Benders Flytying techniques book which contains QR codes to all of the illustrated patterns great idea and a very good book. Graham A Hicks
Hey Barry absolutely love this pattern, I picked up the tool and started tying a few and they look incredible, can't wait to try them out this mayfly season in the Sierras! One question I have, any tips for forming the foam that you insert to the correct shape to fill it out? I've noticed mine ends up a little small sometimes to fit all the way inside the vinyl body and it doesn't look as nice as yours. Cheers and thanks for making these!
Hi Zac, good to hear! All I do as in the video is cut the foam into thin strips and then taper it a little with my scissors and just before I insert it into the body, I roll it in-between my finger and thumb, to squash it down. It will swell and fill the body quite quickly after you have inserted it. Good luck...
Thank you. A little wax on your tying thread will hold materials securely in place with only a couple of wraps. It also strengthens your tying thread and makes the fly stronger and last longer.
Amazing fly tying, another time 👌 Just want to know where do you find the ditatched body tool used in the video ? Thank you so much 🙂 Greetings from 🇧🇪
@@Thefeatherbender indeed. I am going to try to use a barbless gamakatsu or use a straight needle and thread the middle hair with a longer strand. That way when it’s sealed I can pull that hair taught to get that curvature.
Very realistic impression! Body looks like a lot of work if these are made in large quantities. Commercially, these would have to go for at least $5 to $6 dollars each to be worth the amount of time it takes to make one.
Amazing !!! The best way to do extended body i’ve seen Simple, very realistic and it looks solid! I adopt your technique ! Just one question, does it twist the leader wire during the cast or not ?
ok a more practical comment on this approach - I dont think all Vinyl gloves are the same - I cant seem for example to get the tag end to melt sufficiently enough to adhere it to the end of the body. I have tried standard Vinyl medical gloves, thicker 8 ml just because it was there and the truly translucent thin options. Nothing seems to melt or adhere so the body unravels. What thickness and brand of gloves are you using ?
@@Thefeatherbender interesting - im using non powdered vinyl but it burns but wont melt back to itself. I think I can see a life time supply of Vinyl in my future as I search through brands...
@@Thefeatherbender save me some steps boss!! ( wait !....unless a certain amount of frustration makes the pattern fish better!!??) - what brand of gloves are you using ? :)
Nice Tutorial, I knew the techniqe allready from Edwin but I must say not every type of Vinyl Glove works. I bought a pack, but it dose not stick together

Gosh, Barry. €20 for the tool. But my resistance wilted and thought OK. Went through the signing-up business and pressed GO, only to find postage added almost the cost of the tool. That's just too fruity, so I'll try to make one. Shame. The maker needs agents.
Yes, they are difficult to make, the mandril has a very special finish to the surface so you can remove the finished body. Also the slots at the end of the tool I gather is also very difficult. And yes postage has become crazy the last couple of years, even sending flies its too expensive.
Barry....much like the Mustad herritage hooks....you are a legacy! Absolutley perfection at its finest. Yiu are truely an artist!
Very kind, thank you.
These are truly works of art , worthy of taking the most beautiful fish in any ones river.
Thank you.
That's the best mayfly representation I've ever seen. The Trout in Lough Mask county Mayo, will fall for it....👍
Hi Paul, I do hope so. I fished Lough Mask 25 years ago and loved it. I do hope that I will make it back one day...
Pure artistry.
Thank you PG.
Wow! What a pattern, I was speechless when the bit of foam was used. I can't wait to try and tie one up. Thank you so much.
Thanks NCF.

Barry , I could not tie that in a month of Sundays . Beautiful concept ,but beyond me .
Ha, its not that difficult Bill.
Between your books and your videos I've improved my tying immeasurably.
