Fucking SAME. God I wish they had the balls to do something like this again. Not a sequel, cuz most Disney sequels notoriously suck, but something like it. A brand new spin, on an old as dust tale. I wish they would utilize deep canvas again. I wish for a simpler time, when this was revolutionary. I want them to put a new spin on so many old classics. Instead of just making sequels, or remakes, or taking something out of the vault for the "super mega ultra diamond platinum edition, with ultra hd, even though it doesn't make the movie look or sound all that much better". I want them to take medieval tales, and bring em up to modern standards, or futuristic ones. I want the creativity behind this GREAT film to come back into Disney films again. I mean, come on, who thinks treasure island, and says "hitchhikers guide"? Fuckin nobody anymore.
When I was born my dad left and when I turned 5 years old he forgot my face and my name back when I was young he came over before he lost his memory of me and he was getting ready to leave and I grabbed his hand asking him plz don't go but he left and this was when I was 4 years old T_T
Well I can tell you why it hit me so hard. Life is basically us wanting to be spontanious, and sometimes people will try to wear us down, but you strain to get out of their judgmental eyes. And if you are not dealing with them, you are dealing with ones that are careless. In the end, you want to scream at the world and tell them "I'm still here".
+Regan Robinson, our favorite songs may be our favorites because we connect with it weather we are aware of it or not. This particular song sends messages to a broad audience abandoned kids, young people with no father figure finding one, people fighting even when they feel no one believes in them or even not believing on themselves. People fighting prejudice. And many more interpretations. Disney is good making themes relatable on many levels for different people.
For the most part, the animation was slightly different from what most people were used to at the time. If memory serves, it mixed traditional animation with a little computer based. Pair that with the sci fi theme and you have a truly unique movie. The same could be said of the movie Atlantis as well. They were released before the sci fi theme became larger. Since then, the overall mindset has changed. Imo, if they were recreated and released today, I think it would do far better.
+mariaarakal Because opinions. I honestly think that people like to go for perfection or want something on the level of Citizen Kane (I don't see how that is considered the greatest movie of all time)
One thing that makes this movie so great is it's originality. It's not about Jim falling in love, or becoming this figure. It's about doing something that is worth doing. Something that really makes you believe in yourself, and that's what makes me love this movie so much.
God... all the nostalgia that I experience revisiting this! Always loved this part of the movie ever since I first watched it in 2004. They simply don't make movies like these anymore... sadly. :/
i think you're forgetting Princess and the Frog, which was very recent(2009) and was this style, 2D animation!!!C'mon, don't be so harsh on new Disney movies, just enjoy all of them, old ones and new ones!!!! Besides, recent Disney movies have started this Disney Revival Era and with movies like Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen and Big Hero 6, Disney is finally getting there!! :)
STATRIMC95 Yeah your right about that, tangled and wreck it ralph are good movies, but there is just this magic about these old movies that i dont see in new movies. Maybe im just crazy lol
This is the most underrated movie Disney's ever made, and I'm including The Hunchback Of Notre Dame when I say that. WOW I had such a huuuge crush on Jim and I'm 100% sure that he's the reason I really like that undercuts are in style now lol
Tro Cavanagh Well yeah I'm not saying that it did poorly, I'm saying that it doesn't get as much recognition as many of the other movies that came out during the disney renaissance. Maybe that's because it's a dark movie and people thought kids couldn't handle it? Lol I know I couldn't have
Tro Cavanagh Compared to the rest of the Disney movies, stuff like Hunchback of Notre Dame, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, Rescuers, Great Mouse Detective, and Oliver + Company are fairly underrated. Ask anybody about their favorite Disney movie and its gonna be either a recent movie (Tangled/Frozen) or a Disney Renaissance/Princess movie (Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc). Even then I think the only Princess movie that fell under the radar was the Princess and the Frog.
2 fabulous reasons to love this movie: -1: the theme is steampunk, which makes the universe a great treat to the eyes of those who watch it; -2: the drawing style, the characters and the music are really good to make kids smile;
#3: Disney's name doesn't hold that much impact to me, not anymore i guess but if you're referring to the glory days of disney then i agree with you a 100%
Very underrated film that didn't get good critical reviews, which always piss me off. It was a very unique film with the perfect mix of science fiction and somewhat colonial time style
Ikr, same for Atlantis, both movies had a strong impact on my childhood. I hate how if it's not bringing in the money, Disney drops it instead of pushing it further like they did with Frozen for more money.
Too bad 1 of the 3 execs at Disney got butthurt and spread lies that it was a bad film. That's also why Disney stopped making the "serious" animated movies that were prevalent during the late 90's and early 2000's.
Aaron pfund Yeah, it's a damn shame, they were really on to something and I was glad I was able to go to Disney World in 2001 when it was themed for Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and others.
This film should get an award. It was the one and only film that truly captivated me as a kid watching it in the cinema. It was truly born for the cinema. I relate to it as well, cried when I rediscovered it.
Déanna Hudson yeah :( i was mad at first... but i realized that it is just like our little secret, our loot, that we gonna show someday to our sons... and we gonna play with them as we wish somebody would did it with us as a kid. (sorry about my english)
Déanna Hudson Atlantis but this movie is COMPLETELY underrated. One of my most favorite Disney movies that I can watch again and again. Just recently bought a blu ray of it and im 24 years old.
The scene where his dad leaves is so powerfully emotional. It used to make me cry every time I watched it. .....I'm not crying. Someone's cutting onions. I don't cry anymore.
For some reason when I was growing up, I always sort of just learned towards this movie, spirit, and Prince of Egypt. Since I'm older now I'm start to realize WHY I was so obsessed with Treasure Planet. I identified with it, seeing a kid in a movie who's dad walked out on him and the struggles of coming to age really hit me hard. I could relate to Jim better than I could any other main character in Disney movies, being the delinquent while also having to provide for his family and deep down wanting that father figure..
I was in the 1st-2nd grade when this movie came out. I was OBSESSED with the music and used to sing it all the time in class. My teachers thought I was going through some shtuff because of the deep ass lyrics. What happened disney? When did "let it go" and endless tinker bell movies become more meaningful and memorable than shit like this? THIS has to be one of THE MOST underrated disney movies there is. Some people have never seen this master piece but are willing to fight you over how frozen breaks barriers......
I agree with you 100%, this is the best animation I've ever seen and defiantly had a huge impact on me, it's actually meaningful like frozen is shit lmao
I agree wholeheartedly that this is a very underrated movie, however, Frozen is the first Disney movie (that I can remember) that portrayed depression. I do think that it's been totally blown out of proportion, but it is still a good Disney movie in my opinion :)
Too bad 1 of the 3 execs at Disney got butthurt and spread lies that it was a bad film. That's also why Disney stopped making the "young adult" movies that were prevalent during the late 90's and early 2000's.
What happened was during this time it was the studio in Florida that was considered the backup studio that made this movie and The Emperors New Groove, Atlantis, and a few others because the main studio was working with Pixar on 3-D animation movies and told the studio they could do whatever before Disney completely stopped doing 2-D animation movies. A lot of the worker then got hired at Dreamworks studio.
Because this movie was going against a wizard boy and his friends (Harry Potter). I love this movie it's just a shame that critics said that it was part in the dark disney era.
3 reasons. 1. It came out at a bad time, which also happened to be during a dip in Disney's popularity. 2. It didn't get a lot of advertisement either. 3. It lacked continued support from Disney like they do with the really popular movies or Disney Princess movies. So, all in all, while the movie was great, and one of my personal favorites, it sort of flew under the radar for most people.
It was steampunk/fantasy, I'm not saying it was bad it's personally one of my favorite Disney movies. It's just not what you would expect to see from them these days.
***** Omg Atlantis OMFG best movie in disney's arsenal! Fun Fact in the scene where Mole speaks to her in french he asked her if the curtains matched the drapes.....
Nahh it's cause I think they want to bring out more emotion in there characters. CGI does that really well. But they do the best job on there own traditional animation. The last Disney film I can think of that they did Traditional on was Winnie The Pooh 2011 and the animation was pitch perfect, although I prefer my Winnie the Pooh to be a little 50's style animation.
Taking "Treasure Island" and turning it into the fantastic version that is "Treasure Planet" was a daring and fantastic feat of writing and animating. Plus take into account that "Treasure Island" was and is not a "normal and tame" piece of children or young adult oriented literature. Still is controversial, i think. Besides, the creativity that went into this! Just look at that sky surfing and that story book the protagonist is reading! Marvelous!
Lsa F your right this movie's screenplay shows true creativity and inspiration. How the pair that made this created moana is beyond me. I was glad when zootopia won best animated instead of moana. Zootopia showed a lot creativity as well. If someone ten years ago said that disney would do a animated crime thriller they would have been laughed at. Much less one that openly references the godfather and breaking bad.
I just never like how they change Silver for the movie in every adaptation. Thewhole pointof silver is he is a man that manipulates everyone one around him and essentially acts like a conniving child. By the end, Jim is still only 12 and acts as a man, having pitty on the old child before him
I don’t believe treasure island in its original time period was meant for children. Just like original loony toons weren’t meant for kids. The original grimms fairytales ….
What's unique about this is that the characters are real - relatable. Their problems were real, were our problems. For example, when the cyborg guy was choosing between saving the protagonist and keeping the treasure - his dilemma was believable. It was believable that his character was really having a crisis. Unlike say, I- really don't know what they're showing nowadays. Also, I think it's because this has a vibe for the introvert, unlike today where most kid shows are about extroverted characters. Maybe it comes with the ease of connection these days? I don't think there are anymore introverted children - ambiverts at most. ??? lol haha
I agree fully. The writers of this movie *really* knew how to build up characters with real motivations and personalities. They felt like real people, rather than just cartoon characters. I also think movies (especially kids movies) should focus more on introverted people. I mean, extroverts are already familiar and comfortable in the world by their very nature. But introverts will never feel comfortable in a world where they never fit in.
Exactly. Thank you for putting it that way. The build up, real motivations and personalities. Today's cartoon characters are derivative. Archetypes easy to identify, overused. I don't think the kid in me, nor the kid I was, would've identified with any of the characters today.
I'm honestly curious about Silver's past, especially when he talked about his dream and how it might have led to his leg and arm stuff. I think. I have to go watch it again. xD He's one of my favorite characters.
And let's not forget, they didn't even need to force a romantic relationship on this one. Jim never feel in love with a woman and was still a great an epic character. i love the films where they can have an adventure without falling for someone every single time.
+Claudine Malis You never ever lose the younger you. You can always reawaken that passion and ferocity by just looking, because it's your core. Don't put yourself down!! :)
+Claudine Malis . i'm 34 and nearly lost my inner young self. Here's how I find my younger self back. #1. Collect anything that represents your inner self. A photo, picture, totem, a movie scene, or even talk to another child reminds you about your younger self. put them in your phone or anywhere at your convenience. #2. Destroy anything that distracts you or forgets your younger self. Such as world news, social media, bad people. They will turn you into one of them. Do not let them take you. #3. If all fails, do not surrender. Keep looking. Sometimes your heart knows the answers before you ask. Hope this helps.
The real reason this film and Atlantis was classified as underrated wasn't because of the story. They were deemed to dark for Disney and got blacklisted because of it. It actually has nothing to do with the actual films themselves so much what's in them.
filipinowhiteboy at the time that came out no one cared. when this and atlantis came out a parental group was basically blacklisting every other kids movie as too dark. that and many really good shows. in reality they just hate disney. that's the real truth.
+TheCrusaders13 nah. it was more like wrong place wrong time. people wer complaining movies were getting dark, cheap, etc, etc. as of now, apparently everyone went to see frozen and tangled, and no parent complained
I just started crying so hard. I was watching this remembering watching it when I was a little kid with my sister or my family and realising those times are gone forever really hurts me.
Bro, why do you have to hit me like this. This defo my favourite Disney film aswell as my Dad, i remember being a young kid and going to my Dads for the weekend staying up late on the sofa watching this for the first time. :'( Love my Dad, i miss him now im older :(
I wish Treasure Planet got more recognition, it was one of those underrated disney's like Brother Bear...Its so sad that something like Frozen could possibly become the "#1" rated Disney movie when there is so much in this song alone...I actually cried throughout this. I never cried once in Frozen. never. to me this movie speaks to the soul. truly.
Noah Strickler unlike you guys I found it really enjoyable to watch frozen but yeah Treasure planet was such an underrated movie and for some reasons the reviews weren't good either which suprises me and makes me wonder if we've watched the same movie. Also i remember going to the movies to see brother bear when i was younger and at the emotional scene i was like i'm not gonna cry and i did. recently i rewatched it and obviously i knew what would happen but i still cried. they are such amazing movies and i'm going to watch them till i'm old
This movie is my favorite movie of all time, I found an old note in my room the other day which said "Treasure planet Bästa filmen någonsin" Im swedish and that translates into "Treasure planet Best film ever". So I watched it again, man... brings memories :) I just love how many others are clandering about how this is an underrated movie. If they would make a sequel. Dreams come true for me and many others I beleive ;)
Saw this in cinemas with my Dad back when I was a little dude. Now looking back at this is sort of strange, I don't see my Dad anymore so it really hits my heart
Jims mom always reminds me of my mom. Strong, independent. My dad was worthless, but my mom busted her ass every single day. This movie sticks with me because I feel like Jim alot of the time. I'm just waiting to find my map and a way off this rock too.
Bruh same I am too waiting for that kind of thing too cause I'd rather be up amonst the stars and other planets then stuck here day in and day out doing nothing with my life I wanna go on a great grand adventure just like how Jim did. I Wish all of that was real and not just a movie.
+Sathya The old Disney movies had great and memorable storys and characters, beautiful music and immersive atmosphere but the new Movies almost only focus on comedy and nothing else and same thing with American animation in general nowadays.
Reminds me of all the times my dad had to leave for long periods of time (He's in the navy and has to travel a lot) Kinda sad that im used to it now.. but I still tear up at the scene
One of the things that I think is sad about that part is thaf, while it completely plausible the the father just plain left, I think that he actually didn't evdn want to leave. I feel that judging by his clothes and such a small traveling bag, I think that Jim's dad was drafted into a military.
This movie speaks to me in a special way. My dad left when i was 2, and i did see him sometimes but sometimes he'd go for so long i forgot him. I really related to Jim watching the movie, i was really young but it spoke so much about life to me it's ubelievable. I always had this theory that John was secretly Jim's father and when i was young i'd theorise about who was my real father (i knew who it was but i'd imagine if that guy or that was my real father and all they told me were lies). God the feelings this movie gives you. Movie of my childhood.
My dad left when I was 12 because he cheated on my mum and it was when I really needed him the most and since then he has lied to me and manipulated me and is now selling the only home I've know because my mum can't take on the mortgage by herself and we have no where to go. it's stressful because this is my last year of high school, the most important and I won't be able to focus on anything, because I worry so much about my mum, my first year was terrible because my mum would sometimes skip meals and I got really worried but she better and that's all that is important to me. He can sell my home, lie to me and manipulate me but I won't care as long as I have my mum with me.
I remember my dad's old nissan quest had a vhs player and tv built into it, and I would always watch treasure planet on long trips in that car. Man those were the days.
Godamn this is the story of my life… being a trouble maker due to the absence of love or a father figure. Having a single mom who couldn’t handle my “behavior”. Then meeting a “mentor “ who turned out to be a complete lie.. this movie has a special place in my heart. Always.
Iron Giant, Indian in the Cupboard, Prince of Egypt, Spirit, Treasure Planet, Titan AE, Chicken Run, El dorado and Toy Story were out when i was really young and shaped my childhood with their imagination. Nothing is as special as dusty old childhood memories, and for me, those movies mean much more than entertainment. The soundtracks were inspiring, the movie was upbeat, the plot actually existed, and it felt more real than anything today. I miss those days
to me, I feel like kids these days will never know the passion and love we had go these underrated movies. iron giant, treasure planet, were my most favorite childhood memories . If they could bring the iron giant back into the big screen, even tho iron giant isnt part of disney, who knows if Disney decides to bring treasure planet as well
+pedro ortiz my brother's showed all this stuff to me when I was little so I think it's fair enough to say I understand what good movies and cinema was. it's also why bionicle and Kamen rider the 2000s must have been great...
I have taken some time to think about this. But here is my conclusion. I am happy that this movie was, is, and will always be, underrated. That critics gave it shit, and that it dropped off the Mainstream spotlight with haste. That helps it in the long run. How? Longevity of charm and value. It doesn't spoil it, ruin it, or kill it. At least, not to us. :) Which is worth it to you? The brilliant raging forest fire or bonfire? With its magnificent, blaring, loud, awesome ferocity, attracting massive crowds, given pictures, videos and attention, that is snuffed and gone within a matter of days? Or the dim, quiet, calm, content little candlelight, surrounded by just a few content people? That, while timid and small in form and in attention, keep their charm, their light, their warmth, for all of us to share _indefinitely..._ If you ask me? I choose the candlelight. I can enjoy it's warmth for decades to come, provided i treat it right. As can we all. Frozen was rediculously popularized. It was hyped, merchandised, and made known to all but the most iscolated individuals. EVERYONE who lives in a first world nation knows something about Frozen. I dont think there is a sane minded person in said nations that enjoy hearing "Let it Gooooooo" everywhere they go anymore. I know i sure as hell cant. There's spoiling music, but Frozen took it to a whole new level with me. Now lets hypothesize for a moment here. Let's say Frozen and TP switched roles. Replace the sound of "Let it Gooooooo!" With "I'm still heeeeeeeeere!" Imagine all the kids singing that.... All the toys spouting that...all the tv commercials popularizing it, and using it in their advertisements. All the parodies, the sing-alongs, the christmas toys, and God knows what else. Can you imagine what that would mean for us? The idea that a movie as incredible as this one is beyond-spoiled rotten to the point where NO ONE wants to hear it anymore? Or see it, or think of it? With how well made and overall wonderful this movie is, the very thought is nightmare fuel for me...as i hope it would be to all of us. This is a hard fact to accept for many, but my years of underground music have helped me understand it in a more fitting perspective. It's not the quantity of a movie, or it's fans. But the quality. All the mainstreamers have been weeded out. And like the song suggests, we true fans are all still here. And always will be. These wonderfull movies are usually better off underrated in my humble opinion. Lest they get popular, monetized, merchandized, and eventually corrupted with sequals, spin offs, parodies, cartoons, and other such undesirable parphenillia. Im glad Treasure Planet was left relatively untouched in that regard. And i hope it stays that way. This movie has little to need for a sequal. The only thing i would like to see is Silver and Hawkins meet again. Thats it. And i can let my imagination do that one. This movie is ours, and ours alone, fellow spacers and space pirates. Our own Treasure to share amongst ourselves, our families, and each other. And hopefully, and more importantly, one we will be doing so with for a very, *very* long time.
I agree with you 100%! That's the NIICE thing about underrated movies. And the sad thing about movies like Frozen. I'm fairly certain that I would have loved Frozen twice as much if it hadn't become so popular. I'm partial to musicals and Idina Menzel, but I'd already heard all the songs and had the plot ruined for me before I even got to watch it, plus I've been smothered with "Let it Go" ever since. Good movies can be ruined by too much attention.
my dad loves this song because it reminds him of my Grandma. she adopted him when he was in high school and showed him in his own words "right from wrong" sure me and my dad aren't so close anymore, but whenever i hear this song I remember him and how he'd always talk about his mom. Heres to you dad
I am a question to the world Not an answer to be heard Or a moment that's held in your arms And what do you think you'd ever say I won't listen anyway You don't know me And I'll never be what you want me to be And what do you think you'd understand I'm a boy ' No, I'm a man You can't take me and throw me away And how can you learn what's never shown Yeah you stand here on your own They don't know me 'Cause I'm not here And I want a moment to be real Wanna touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong And how can the world want me to change They're the ones that stay the same They don't know me 'Cause I'm not here And you see the things they never see All you wanted I could be Now you know me and I'm not afraid And I want to tell you who I am Can you help me be a man They can't break me As long as I know who I am And I want a moment to be real Wanna touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong How can the world want me to change They're the ones that stay the same They can't see me But I'm still here They can't tell me who to be 'Cause I'm not what they see Yeah the world is still sleepin' While I keep on dreamin' for me And their words are just whispers and lies That I'll never believe And I want a moment to be real Wanna touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong And how can they say I'll never change They're the ones that stay the same I'm the one now 'Cause I'm still here I'm the one 'Cause I'm still here I'm still here I'm still here I'm still here
The worst most painful part about watching this after 13 years is that you read online that there could have been a sequel or a television series based on it, but was cancelled. Meanwhile, Tangled gets an animated tv series and Frozen gets a sequel.........
I think this is my favorite Disney movie. I was in my early twenties when this came out. It just tugged and tugged on my heartstrings, totally underrated. l still get a little sad when this song comes on. I Love it, you ludacris parcel of driven galoots.😁
Many, many years passed. And while movies as 'Lion King' bore me nowadays (though I liked that movie SO much back than) this movie is one of the very very few Disney films that I absolutely loved back then, and that I still love today. It's a veeeery far shot from the original Treasure Island that me and my lil brother grew up to when we were kids. But watching Treasure Planet in our late childhood/early teenhood, and feeling this 'not having found your place/relieable friends in this world yet' struck incredible deep. So - thank you very much for that great vid!
Ok, you are so amazing!!! One I love Kingdom Hearts so much! Two Treasure Planet is underrated and that would be so cool if it was in Kingdom Hearts, I feel like Jim and Sora would be awesome friends, and it would bring awarness to the movie
sadly in the box office Disney actually lost money with the movie, i guess it was a bit too ahead of the times. Still my second favorite Disney movie (Lion king still takes the top)
Most Disney sequels are really bad compared to the original and as the first did badly they'd probably only invest a tiny amount of money into it in the hypothetical scenario it was created. Considering that any sequel is likely to be awful so it's probably best that we just fondly remember the one we have and let the movie rest.
Hi im the 90' from Indonesia.. Leaving comment here wish that a few months or years later somebody can like this and remind me back... Im on oldies spree 90-2010 song
I'm so upset that this movie was shoved under the rug as one of disneys unknown classics, the movie is brilliant and it's an amazing adaptation on treasure Island. To think that this movie was meant to have a sequel and a TV show truly upsets me.
I feel like a tv show would've killed it story wise and the sequel wouldn't have been great CUZ we all know Disney isn't great at that look at Aladin two but this movie was amazing and relatable and should be one of its more well known classics
***** Agreed. Disney does tend to sick at sequels. Although, I loved Toy Story and all the sequels. In my opinion, that was the only time they nailed the sequels.
This song along with the movie truly captures how I feel.. My dad was always deployed in the military or gone while I was growing up, and finally when I turned 12 he disappeared.. For good this time. I don't know a single thing about him or what happened to him, but I remember feeling like I could never do anything right. No matter what I did, I felt like I wouldn't amount to anything. All of that changed though. I met people who came and went, but each of those people who came into my life left a lasting impact in one way or another, and because of that, I made it. I pulled through, and became something. Every night I look at the stars and think back to this movie, and I feel happy because I know that just like Jim, I made it too.
This movie and Atlantis: The Lost Empire were my favorite movies as a kid. I was a 3 year old when Atlantis: The Lost Empire had released and I was almost a 5 year old when this movie was released. These movies make me feel emotional as a kid and till now! I want to hold on the special movies that taught me so much but I didn't take any bad visuals or messages from those movies because I didn't understood them and I was still an innocent child. These movies are special to me about love, dreams, and being who you are.
iskremape It's not a reboot (which would be The Amazing Spider-Man vs. Spider-Man) but an adaptation of the classic novel Treasure Island. (Unless there actually was an older Treasure Planet that I'm not aware of? I'm pretty sure there isn't.) I do agree that I enjoy this more than the traditional Treasure Island works :)
Well, I guess we're allllll saying this then, I'm a girl who is 15 years old and this is in my top 5 favourite Disney movies. It's so underrated, and I don't see why. It's so beautiful, especially the visuals and the animation. It's just so entertaining to watch and has a really strong message, which I love!
I agree. I was 15 when this was first released back in 2002, I think this was pretty much at the end of the golden age of hand-drawn animation, I don't consider it up there with the greatest Disney creations I grew up with in the 90's like The Lion King or Aladdin, or earlier works like The Jungle Book, but I do agree it's an underrated film that has some beautiful animation, a wonderful steam-punk kinda storyline and likeable characters. It just didn't find its audience at the time.
I grew up with ones like Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet of course, Atlantis and really bad ones like Chicken Little and Home on the Range. You're pretty lucky, the ones I saw were kinda ups and downs. I'm glad to hear you think the same! Actually, this is my 5th favourite Disney film, haha! The Hunchback of Notre Dame is my favourite which was made in the 90's, so yeah c:
Ugh, I used to love Chicken Little. Now, I absolutely hate it. I think it's the worst Disney film. Eh, Home on the Range was boring to me. Aw, I was born in 1998...
Sad but true, when I was young this movie spoke to me like no other movie ever did or has since. It literally changed my life. My parents divorced when I was young and my father moved across the country. I didn't see him much and it was a difficult time. A few years on and this movie comes out. I was on the edge of getting kicked out of school, I was angry and a loner. After watching this movie my outlook changed so much. In many ways I've got a lot to thank this movie for. No other work of art has ever affected me as much as this movie did and continues to do.
Im decently young and i find this so relatable my father walked out on my family and this story is a love story about him and his mom and thats exactly like my life so i feel a deep connection to this and whenever this comes on i cry like a 2 year old. Cheers.
The reason why Big Hero 6 was awesome was because they have the same producers as Treasure Planet. And Yes Treasure Planet is underrated and dare I say Frozen is Overrated. Treasure Planet's animation was brilliant and its soundtrack is pretty awesome and relatable, they got John Rzenik to sing 2 songs in this movie, how awesome is that. Tbh i would rather watch a sequel (which was sadly cancelled) of Treasure Planet than Frozen. Don't get me wrong, Frozen is pretty good but Treasure Planet is much better.
Your right about Disney sequels being pretty ( shitty) I mean don't get me wrong but have you seen the little mermaid sequel? I hope Disney don't mess up frozen 2 ( even though frozen is really overrated I still kinda want to see it )
Charissa Lim The problem is, is that treasure planet would have to have a fully original story for a sequel. The movie is based off the book Treasure Island, a short novel about a young lad in the 17th century competing with his old pirate friend for loot.
LovatoLover22 Disney has a separate studio make the sequels. The studio is called Toon Disney the makers of the Tinker Bell and Planes films. The studio producing Frozen 2 is Disney Feature Animation. They have only made three sequels those being The Rescuers Down Under, Fantasia 2000, and the recent Winnie the Pooh.
I love this film, it's such a shame it's so underrated along with other Disney gems like Atlantis the Lost Empire. Simply because when they were released the public didn't like them because they didn't follow the Disney formula of that time which was the princess fairytale. If they had been created and shown now they probably would have been a bigger success.
+Alex Burton Screw it. People love it, Treasure Planet is the kid in Disney school sitting by himself and playing his video game trying to get by in Life. And guess what, that kid is someone special that kids, adults and anyone can connect to. It doesn't matter if he wasn't the popular kid like Aladdin, or Frozen. He made his place in a lot of peoples memory's and hearts and has probably inspired more than just a good time for some. Every Disney cartoon has there place in the world, and I think it's ok to say I haven't ever truly despised a Disney cartoon as all of them have important lessons that no matter how old you get, they can still be retold like farytales ;)
Not to be one of those people who just hate frozen, but I honestly think this song is way better than let it go. Thinking about the meaning of both songs, and how they were made, I just have to go with this one. This goes back to my childhood, and takes me on a much further emotional journey than let it go. Even though I can relate to let it go, I just feel like this one is much better.
+Super Rachel what I still get mad about is I literally only watched this movie for the first time when I was 15, like 2 years ago. No idea why. Iron Giant and Sinbad of the Seven Seas I didn't find until way later too!!
+Super Rachel Different era's need different types of songs. Let it Go sought of resonates with all ages of 2010's because were becoming more widely acceptable of conflicting personal issues, where is in the 2000's we were more trying to evaluate who we are as people due to a lot of uncertainty of change. Maybe that's just my way of justifying some peoples hate and love for songs, but I think it fits the bill pretty well.
Rachel Dame a thousand times yes! I've listened to both songs but this one I could listen to again and again and get the feels We're as in "Let it go's" case my ears start to bleed
wow back when Disney actually had a meaning. It cuts deep when he talks about his dad. My parent have undoubtedly forgot me and I have gotten over it. But when Im road tripping and getting drunk with my buds and this song comes on due to shuffle. I blare the fuck out of it. They dont understand why, but I do. CAUSE "IM STILL HERE" AND "You dont know me and ill never be what you want me to be" Id do anything to shake the hand of this artist. Just to let him know how much this song has helped me get through those long night
I grew up in this age of Disney movies! I loved this movie so much! I'm so happy to be a full grown man and still love this! This was exactly similar to how my own childhood was like. But now, I know that I have family, friends, and other people who really are there for me and truly care! This movie is SO underrated! This is one of my very own favorite Disney movies of all time. So, if Hollywood was going to do a live action of this movie, they better NOT screw it up! In closing, the story of Treasure Island is very dear to me and I hope it can be a very emotional ride for EVERYONE! Even for future generations to come!
This reminds me of one of the only times I was with my parents and grandparents and everyone was happy. We saw this at Disney land when I was a kid, and it was one of the happiest moments ever. Seeing this today and being 23, brings tears to my eyes. Thank you so much. For this short time I remembered a time when my family was together and happy.
In my nostalgic feels rn. I remember begging day after day to have my mom rent this movie when it was released, my step grandpa at the time took me to get it from the local movie store in his big rig and I remember hopping out of the cabin at 4 years old and running inside and watching it over and over and over again. I love this movie so much. This movie is just so perfect, I grew up with out much of s father figure and when James’ dad walks out I just started balling because it’s basically what mine did and after all is said and done, I’m still here.
Hannah McGuigan Unless you were born during the 80's or 90/91 at the most, other than that you're too young to probably remember anything. Either way, it's a decade and it's gone.
I am 15 years old. This was/is the one of my favourite movies. Today, this melody just was in my head. Then I listened it. I am crying now :) IT'S BEAUTIFUL!
This Movie brings back so many memories. It's a good way to understand life kinda, if you watch it from the right perspective that is and also another reason I like to say "I'm still here"
KALIMAindia Well, rewriting a huge classical book (Treasure Island) + making it Scifi, + releasing it in 2002 with not so great marketing... Clearly it's great, but i can totally see why you'd go "meh" at the time on this.
I remember watching this when i was a kid. i think i was around like 6 or 7. When i saw the flash back scene, and seing Jim running after his dad as he was leaving made me cry. I'm not sure i fully understood what it really meant at the time, but now as a young adult in her 2Os, and as someone who's dad left the house a few years ago, it hits much closer to home and made me cry a lot more.
I remember watching this movie in a playroom on an old silver box-like TV, I had no idea what I was watching but GOD DAMN did the music get me into it to the point where I wish I could live in a life like that.
I can't believe I went so long without watching this movie. I watched it all the way through for the first time last night and it left me absolutely breathless. I love this movie so much. It's sad that it's not more popular.
I didn't watch this movie until two years ago, when I was fifteen, and I really loved how Captain Amelia was a smart, sharp woman who wasn't afraid of risking it all and of speaking her mind. Her line "but I won't bore you with my scars" really hooked me onto her character. Why do some good movies, with strong women, have to be underrated while movies like Twilight, with...whatever the heck Bella Swan is, get the spotlight?
+heatherjasper97 I think they're trying to say to enjoy the movie for what it is rather than compare it and make it into something else entirely. Twilight isn't directed towards people like us. No need to bring it up here.
The nostalgia is real man. This used to be me and my older brother's favorite movie when we were younger. I relate to Jim more than any other character I've seen in a movie. I can hardly watch this without getting misty-eyed.
Man, I really miss films like this. Sure it was a little all over the place, but that was its charm. Now we live in the "Let it Go" generation. God help us all.
Yes and it was pretty good, especially for having more adult themes. However, it was then followed by the new Jungle Book, which got more praise than it deserved.
we had a very small box tv to play vhs tapes in the truck when we went on family vacations. This cilm and finding nemo were probably the 2 most watched by my brother and I. I always knew this film was something special. It always resonated deeply with me. I went through a very long period of being alone, having no friends, hurting. And today watching this video, it inspired me. I'm not that helpless little boy anymore. I'm growing into a man. I need to make my own decisions and carve out my own path. I need to have confidence in myself, be honest with myself, stay true to myself, and never second-guess myself. I've been alone for much too long, so I know exactly who I am. I am comfortable with me. I know I can accomplish great things. Parts of this film hit home hard. At the end of this video when he shows up back home and surprises his mother, that puts a knot in my throat. I want to do that. One day, after I made it on my own, after I can live on my own with no help from anybody and find success in my own way, I want to come back home and see my mom. And show her I made it. I'm ok. You did it, we did it. And now we can be happy and dance.
so everyone else in the comment section says this song hurts. But in my case, it's the song that brings a smile back on to my face when everything is going wrong. When my depression hits this is the go to song. And sure, maybe it's because i re discovered it at the most difficult time in my life, but hell, ever since, when i listen to I'm still here, i start to feel like i deserve to be who i am. i deserve to exist, and everyone else can suck it.
Sasha Campbell tbh it's the same with me. December marks the six months I've been clean from self harm, and I'm getting a tattoo from this movie to commemorate it because this movie had such an effect on me.
I'm glad to hear you are doing better, keep doing what ever you have been doing, and try to stay happy. I'm still on the road to recovery myself, but I believe I have found the root of my problems. as such, as soon as I move out, I should recover practically over night.
Memories right in the feels. I used to listen to this over and over again, man loved this so much, still do, it's just sad that Disney can't make movies like this anymore. Movies that actually /move/ you.
One of the most criminally underrated Disney films ever. I adored this movie growing up.
For real. I'd lovee to see a live action movie of it. I used to watch it a lot
This and The hunchback of Notre Dame are my two favorite underrated Disney movies. They're just so deep kids cannot understand them
people could not handle the realness of this film so it got bad reviews.😞
This and John Carter of Mars are both so underrated
The scene where he runs out to the port where his dad is leaving still hits me in the feels..
Same
Same. My dad visits on the weekends so when I was younger I would get upset and chase after his car.
When I was born my dad left and when I turned 5 years old he forgot my face and my name back when I was young he came over before he lost his memory of me and he was getting ready to leave and I grabbed his hand asking him plz don't go but he left and this was when I was 4 years old T_T
oh my god
MrGabeanator True story 😔
THE MOST underrated Disney film of all time imo. Can’t change my mind. In 2050 I’ll still recommend this.
YES!
See you in 2050 my friend
Man, I don't know if I make it to 2050 but cheers anyway.
explain me why this song hurt so much?
This song just broke my heart
Well I can tell you why it hit me so hard. Life is basically us wanting to be spontanious, and sometimes people will try to wear us down, but you strain to get out of their judgmental eyes. And if you are not dealing with them, you are dealing with ones that are careless. In the end, you want to scream at the world and tell them "I'm still here".
:'(
Because Jeffy, you understand it :)
memories so much 😭 . miss them old days
This movie and Atlantis are so underrated. Two of my fave movies!
IKR THEY ARE MY FAVORITE MOVIES
ikr
+ MsHeart50 TITAN A.E. Também .
+MsHeart50 SAME I LOVE THOSE 2
LITERALLY SAME
I don't understand why this movie had such a low rating on Rotten Tomatoes...I just saw it again and it was so good?!
+mariaarakal I think this movie was ahead of its time.
+PATR1CKSOMMER That movie is horrible. The only good part is the I stand alone song. And even then just barely. Don't let nostalgia cloud your brain.
too be honest its nostalgia. for adults its nothing special. I mean you dont see kids reviewing these movies on the internet.
So true, this movie really conveys a great and sadly, a bit unique, message!
God this brings me back.. cheers to a simpler time lads.
Cheers
Just like Good ol days. CHEERS!!!
Cheeeers :/ :'(
My friends and I watched this...our ages are 22, 24, 24, and 25.. we all cried like babies. We all got put in our feels!! I love this movie..
Christopher Jorge What id give to go back to these times
God... all the nostalgia that I experience revisiting this! Always loved this part of the movie ever since I first watched it in 2004.
They simply don't make movies like these anymore... sadly. :/
what about Frozen?
Hamphus Hultgren It was descent but nothing compared to old classics like these.
right !? ever since walt died (rip) they went downhill. frozen is the closest theyve come though.
i think you're forgetting Princess and the Frog, which was very recent(2009) and was this style, 2D animation!!!C'mon, don't be so harsh on new Disney movies, just enjoy all of them, old ones and new ones!!!!
I don't think hunchback is underrated at all it got a Second movie ( that sucked) and a lot of people consider it one of most darkest Disney movies
Tro Cavanagh
Well yeah I'm not saying that it did poorly, I'm saying that it doesn't get as much recognition as many of the other movies that came out during the disney renaissance. Maybe that's because it's a dark movie and people thought kids couldn't handle it? Lol I know I couldn't have
KettiexD Not goin to lie guy pulls it off it just fits perfectly with his style
^^^^^^^^^^^
Or lion king
2 fabulous reasons to love this movie:
-1: the theme is steampunk, which makes the universe a great treat to the eyes of those who watch it;
-2: the drawing style, the characters and the music are really good to make kids smile;
#3: Disney's name doesn't hold that much impact to me, not anymore i guess but if you're referring to the glory days of disney then i agree with you a 100%
+Ivanator The Great Disney has lost a lot of its quality tbh.
But its not really steam punk
Less than William more like spacey steampunk
Extra Usapi No, not really. Just because its that time period meets Sci-Fi doesn't mean its steam punk
Very underrated film that didn't get good critical reviews, which always piss me off. It was a very unique film with the perfect mix of science fiction and somewhat colonial time style
I know right. If I have to choose between this and Frozen or Inside Out, I'd choose this movie any day.
Ikr, same for Atlantis, both movies had a strong impact on my childhood. I hate how if it's not bringing in the money, Disney drops it instead of pushing it further like they did with Frozen for more money.
Too bad 1 of the 3 execs at Disney got butthurt and spread lies that it
was a bad film. That's also why Disney stopped making the "serious"
animated movies that were prevalent during the late 90's and early
2000's.
Yes, they stopped making these cool sci-fi and young adult films due to an internal spat.
Aaron pfund
Yeah, it's a damn shame, they were really on to something and I was glad I was able to go to Disney World in 2001 when it was themed for Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and others.
This film should get an award. It was the one and only film that truly captivated me as a kid watching it in the cinema. It was truly born for the cinema. I relate to it as well, cried when I rediscovered it.
This and Atlantis, so so brilliant. So so underated:(
Déanna Hudson yeah :( i was mad at first... but i realized that it is just like our little secret, our loot, that we gonna show someday to our sons... and we gonna play with them as we wish somebody would did it with us as a kid. (sorry about my english)
Déanna Hudson Oh gooosh Atlantis
Déanna Hudson Atlantis but this movie is COMPLETELY underrated. One of my most favorite Disney movies that I can watch again and again. Just recently bought a blu ray of it and im 24 years old.
***** Amazon bro :)
Déanna Hudson I KNOWWWWWWWWWWW. This was probably my favorite Disney movie of all time!
The scene where his dad leaves is so powerfully emotional. It used to make me cry every time I watched it.
.....I'm not crying. Someone's cutting onions. I don't cry anymore.
The nostalgia literally hurts
For some reason when I was growing up, I always sort of just learned towards this movie, spirit, and Prince of Egypt.
Since I'm older now I'm start to realize WHY I was so obsessed with Treasure Planet. I identified with it, seeing a kid in a movie who's dad walked out on him and the struggles of coming to age really hit me hard. I could relate to Jim better than I could any other main character in Disney movies, being the delinquent while also having to provide for his family and deep down wanting that father figure..
Stormi Purdom i know that feeling
Beautiful 🙏
@Stormi Purdom - I Know How U Feel
Some people have never seen this master piece but are willing to fight you over how frozen breaks barriers......
true
I agree with you 100%, this is the best animation I've ever seen and defiantly had a huge impact on me, it's actually meaningful like frozen is shit lmao
I agree wholeheartedly that this is a very underrated movie, however, Frozen is the first Disney movie (that I can remember) that portrayed depression. I do think that it's been totally blown out of proportion, but it is still a good Disney movie in my opinion :)
Too bad 1 of the 3 execs at Disney got butthurt and spread lies that it
was a bad film.
HOW THE FUCK is the movie so underrated. My fav childhood movie
Mason Holmes I know right
aw man we know
Because this movie was going against a wizard boy and his friends (Harry Potter).
So, all in all, while the movie was great, and one of my personal favorites, it sort of flew under the radar for most people.
in short, it got fucked. but it will be a cult classic like so many other films that never got the attention it deserved
this movie was so different...
Aslynn Johnson in what form?
It was steampunk/fantasy, I'm not saying it was bad it's personally one of my favorite Disney movies. It's just not what you would expect to see from them these days.
Aslynn Johnson I know you know I love this movie
@Alonso Reyes exactly
This movie and Atlantis are so underrated, why they don't make traditional animation movies no more? is CGI more cheaper?
***** Omg Atlantis OMFG best movie in disney's arsenal! Fun Fact in the scene where Mole speaks to her in french he asked her if the curtains matched the drapes.....
Dohvanetwork Smith I don't know about that, i only watched the european portuguese dub
oh lol, well it's not exactly a well known fact and he did whisper it.
Nahh it's cause I think they want to bring out more emotion in there characters. CGI does that really well. But they do the best job on there own traditional animation. The last Disney film I can think of that they did Traditional on was Winnie The Pooh 2011 and the animation was pitch perfect, although I prefer my Winnie the Pooh to be a little 50's style animation.
no
Taking "Treasure Island" and turning it into the fantastic version that is "Treasure Planet" was a daring and fantastic feat of writing and animating. Plus take into account that "Treasure Island" was and is not a "normal and tame" piece of children or young adult oriented literature. Still is controversial, i think. Besides, the creativity that went into this! Just look at that sky surfing and that story book the protagonist is reading! Marvelous!
+Luisa Flores Couldn't agree more.
Absolutely. I love reading these comments, this movie needs more recognition for how incredibly done it is.
This movie is special to me
***** I can relate to the main character in a lot of ways, especially his relationship with his family.
It is one of the 3 earliest movies i can remember in my life... list is this, toy story, toy story 2
ive always remeberd this movie and i seen it when i was like 5
What's unique about this is that the characters are real - relatable.
I think. I have to go watch it again. xD
He's one of my favorite characters.
Jerome Joz rise of the guardians and how to train your dragon have introvert characters in them.
And let's not forget, they didn't even need to force a romantic relationship on this one. Jim never feel in love with a woman and was still a great an epic character. i love the films where they can have an adventure without falling for someone every single time.
I miss you so much, younger self. You are braver, a stronger fighter and more awesome---than the me now.
Don't give up on yourself. Awaken that passion, its still their waiting for you.
+Jeffery Krueger Thank you for taking the time to say type those words.
I miss these movies and will never get a good one like these again.
The real reason this film and Atlantis was classified as underrated wasn't because of the story. They were deemed to dark for Disney and got blacklisted because of it. It actually has nothing to do with the actual films themselves so much what's in them.
This movie was pretty dark, with all the on screen deaths and even murder. I feel like kids need exposure to that though.
+Natalie Landwehr of course they do. Kids this days will grow thinking evdrything is pinky and happy
+TheCrusaders13 too dark!? and Great Mouse detective isn't!?....man, that movie scared the crap out of me as a kid.
filipinowhiteboy at the time that came out no one cared. when this and atlantis came out a parental group was basically blacklisting every other kids movie as too dark. that and many really good shows. in reality they just hate disney. that's the real truth.
Me to
You just read my mind and I'm not happy about it.
Bro, why do you have to hit me like this. This defo my favourite Disney film aswell as my Dad, i remember being a young kid and going to my Dads for the weekend staying up late on the sofa watching this for the first time. :'( Love my Dad, i miss him now im older :(
Bailey Bassett I cried too : )
this was brilliant movie
a*
YOU BET IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE AS A CHILD
definitely needed more credit. incredibly made!
underrated movie
Probably one of the most underated movies i've ever seen. It was one of my favourite Disney Movies of all time.
I wish Treasure Planet got more recognition, it was one of those underrated disney's like Brother Bear...Its so sad that something like Frozen could possibly become the "#1" rated Disney movie when there is so much in this song alone...I actually cried throughout this. I never cried once in Frozen. never.
to me this movie speaks to the soul. truly.
I agree with you on that Yuuzuki. This song means a lot to me ^_^.
i all so agree i did not like frozen but i love treasure plant and brother bear old
disney better then some of the new ones who agrees :)
Noah Strickler unlike you guys I found it really enjoyable to watch frozen but yeah Treasure planet was such an underrated movie and for some reasons the reviews weren't good either which suprises me and makes me wonder if we've watched the same movie.
Also i remember going to the movies to see brother bear when i was younger and at the emotional scene i was like i'm not gonna cry and i did. recently i rewatched it and obviously i knew what would happen but i still cried.
they are such amazing movies and i'm going to watch them till i'm old
Don't forget Tarzan!
I agree, Frozen was pretty lame, Treasure Planet should have gotten more recognition.
An underrated movie. 25, and I watched it a month or so ago and enjoyed it.
It's beautiful, isn't it? Seeing all these people loving the same movie and thinking about how movie critiques just shout all the time..?
This movie is my favorite movie of all time, I found an old note in my room the other day which said "Treasure planet Bästa filmen någonsin" Im swedish and that translates into "Treasure planet Best film ever". So I watched it again, man... brings memories :) I just love how many others are clandering about how this is an underrated movie. If they would make a sequel. Dreams come true for me and many others I beleive ;)
BrilliantShadows What the hell would the sequel even be about?
aethertech About Captain Amelia...the plot can be cheese on toast for all I care as long as Captain Amelia is still in it,LOL! XD
yup
Saw this in cinemas with my Dad back when I was a little dude. Now looking back at this is sort of strange, I don't see my Dad anymore so it really hits my heart
I'm sorry about that :(....
I know what you feel... i don't see my father anymore neither, but the memories of the times i shared with him are the greatest.
Tell him what you can while he's still there. You'll regret it when you can't anymore.
Aw I'm so sorry to hear that plus you're really cute!
Same here, me and my dad would do everything together, now we barely even talk to eachother
There is always something magical about old Disney movies compared to the new ones.
+Sathya That's nostalgia my friend...
It's the meaning and message of the movies that makes them magical
+Sathya The old Disney movies had great and memorable storys and characters, beautiful music and immersive atmosphere but the new Movies almost only focus on comedy and nothing else and same thing with American animation in general nowadays.
Sathya you can thank the hand drawn animation for that
Sathya
They all looked different unlike the exact same animation every damn time.
i cant be the only one who teared up at the scene of young jim running towards his father as he left him
I cried. A lot.
just as long as i wasnt the only one
You're not
Reminds me of all the times my dad had to leave for long periods of time (He's in the navy and has to travel a lot)
Kinda sad that im used to it now.. but I still tear up at the scene
I know exactly how you feel one minute my dad is her for about a day then I don't see him for ages
FamousOnChains I feel the Same way, It's magical when a Great Movie( with awesome music) can be easily relatable . This Movie needs more Praise
FamousOnChains mine left when i was 10 and i haven't seen him for more than maybe an hour in like 7 months
FamousOnChains I never met mine at all, but I still see a lot of myself in this movie
01 nissain quest? , because i have one too and its fun to watch old Disney movies with it
Ryanthekill8 yep that's the one lol
And how quickly life turns into bullshit
Omg I had the 04 Nissan Quest.
Wool TheonlywaytogetanewthreadinaNemo did that one have a DVD player?
The best Movie of my entire childhood
Remember the times before "LEEETTTT IIIIITTT GOOOOO"
Those times were great...
We were the I'm Still here generation
And not ashamed of it!
+mario167100 lion king still woops its arse because soon it will "uncool" but never the lion king that first line still always does me in.
Wow...You old niggas always mad other people get to have a child hood
+Raizen Sun (Alexis Lovelace) bite me
Godamn this is the story of my life… being a trouble maker due to the absence of love or a father figure.
+KamenRider HQ Same story withy big brother bro. He's the only reason I know these.
you forgot tarzan and atlantis and ofc lion king
Whoa spot on.. Every single movie you named..
Which is worth it to you? The brilliant raging forest fire or bonfire? With its magnificent, blaring, loud, awesome ferocity, attracting massive crowds, given pictures, videos and attention, that is snuffed and gone within a matter of days?
Or the dim, quiet, calm, content little candlelight, surrounded by just a few content people? That, while timid and small in form and in attention, keep their charm, their light, their warmth, for all of us to share _indefinitely..._
If you ask me?
Replace the sound of
"Let it Gooooooo!"
With
"I'm still heeeeeeeeere!"
Imagine all the kids singing that....
And hopefully, and more importantly, one we will be doing so with for a very, *very* long time.
the hawkins generation ;)
I agree with you 100%! That's the NIICE thing about underrated movies. And the sad thing about movies like Frozen. I'm fairly certain that I would have loved Frozen twice as much if it hadn't become so popular. I'm partial to musicals and Idina Menzel, but I'd already heard all the songs and had the plot ruined for me before I even got to watch it, plus I've been smothered with "Let it Go" ever since. Good movies can be ruined by too much attention.
Totally agree. Underrated media is awesome.
+Daniel Cannata awesome comment bro
+Daniel Cannata True. I can't deny that. But I just can't stand the fact that fuckin Frozen brought enormous income to disney and not Treasure Planet
This better not get taken down.
+emma butcher Oh God, please no
+emma butcher This vid is almost 10 years old LOL, don't think there's a high chance of that.
+emma butcher #"itsss still herrreeee"
TG's unravel got taken down and the views on that were high af.. ._. this NEEDS to stay
🎵Im still heeere🎵 😊
Don't you love it, whenever a good old flick like this gives you feels years after you've last seen it?
Yup
38 Likes!?
That's the most I've ever had! Thanks (the viewers of) UA-cam!
Crying Is for Winners I remember when the movie came out in 2002 omg i feel old. but the fells! ^-^
Crying Is for Winners Oh yeah. Haven't seen this movie in like 10 years, but loved it as a kid. Saw it again, and it brought back a ton of feels.
LovatoLover22 rmmm.

my dad loves this song because it reminds him of my Grandma. she adopted him when he was in high school and showed him in his own words "right from wrong" sure me and my dad aren't so close anymore, but whenever i hear this song I remember him and how he'd always talk about his mom. Heres to you dad
My grandparents adopted me too when I was fifteen!!
I am a question to the world
Not an answer to be heard
Or a moment that's held in your arms
And what do you think you'd ever say
I won't listen anyway
You don't know me
And I'll never be what you want me to be
And what do you think you'd understand
I'm a boy ' No, I'm a man
You can't take me and throw me away
And how can you learn what's never shown
Yeah you stand here on your own
They don't know me
'Cause I'm not here
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change
They're the ones that stay the same
They don't know me
'Cause I'm not here
And you see the things they never see
All you wanted I could be
Now you know me and I'm not afraid
And I want to tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
How can the world want me to change
They're the ones that stay the same
They can't see me
But I'm still here
They can't tell me who to be
'Cause I'm not what they see
Yeah the world is still sleepin'
While I keep on dreamin' for me
And their words are just whispers and lies
That I'll never believe
And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can they say I'll never change
They're the ones that stay the same
I'm the one now
'Cause I'm still here
I'm the one
'Cause I'm still here
I'm still here
I'm still here
I'm still here
When music had meaning..
How can I pin this on my end XD
The worst most painful part about watching this after 13 years is that you read online that there could have been a sequel or a television series based on it, but was cancelled.
Meanwhile, Tangled gets an animated tv series and Frozen gets a sequel.........
Nigel Nathaneal and frozen is a broadway musical
The art direction and animation on this film is fantastic.
I want Treasure Planet in Kingdom Hearts 3!!! This is maybe the most underrated Disney movie. I would have loved if they made a sequel.
Ok, you are so amazing!!! One I love Kingdom Hearts so much! Two Treasure Planet is underrated and that would be so cool if it was in Kingdom Hearts, I feel like Jim and Sora would be awesome friends, and it would bring awarness to the movie
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
sadly in the box office Disney actually lost money with the movie, i guess it was a bit too ahead of the times.
They were planning to but the box office failure of this made them pull the plug on it.
such an underrated film
Hi im the 90' from Indonesia.. Leaving comment here wish that a few months or years later somebody can like this and remind me back... Im on oldies spree 90-2010 song
The greatest movie about fatherhood.
And the fatherhood part of it is so good thanks to disney, for changing it, which is a relief, to be honest.
***** They'd force a love story on Jim in a sequel, guaranteed... ehhh no thanks
+abbieco1 same with Atlantis the lost empire
+abbieco1 Yeah maybe it was better off staying with one movie :P
Definitely a underrated movie
+deysi gonzalez its the best movie EVER !!!!!
These movies are special to me about love, dreams, and being who you are.
so underrated
its a reboot but IMO its much better than the original
iskremape It's not a reboot (which would be The Amazing Spider-Man vs. Spider-Man) but an adaptation of the classic novel Treasure Island.
(Unless there actually was an older Treasure Planet that I'm not aware of? I'm pretty sure there isn't.)
I do agree that I enjoy this more than the traditional Treasure Island works :)
thanks for correcting me. thats what i meant
Little did we know at the time that that hairstyle would be so prevalent in ten years
Lmqooo bruh
Truly ahead of it's time
One of the greatest masterpieces Disney ever produced, it is deeply and humanly relatable to many people who watch it.
*****
just realized ive never seen this movie nor half the ones uve listed XD
Kids today will never know how deep this movie really is
Sad but true, when I was young this movie spoke to me like no other movie ever did or has since.
Daniel Hall I do xp
+Kylar Little Dude groovy
+TheConnorian I'm sorry to hear about that but I'm glad you had a positive outcome in a tragic situation. you have my respect
Charissa Lim Then again...Disney does sequels pretty horibbly but nahh still would rather watch Treasure Planet 2
Oh thank you! Didn't know that. 😀
Every Disney cartoon has there place in the world, and I think it's ok to say I haven't ever truly despised a Disney cartoon as all of them have important lessons that no matter how old you get, they can still be retold like farytales ;)
somebody call an ambulance because I think I just got my nostalgic heart pierced
;'(
Is your name a Robots reference?
+Ai Kirin OH MY GOD FINALLY SOME PEOPLE THAT KNOW ABOUT ROBOTS!
+TheArmoCanuck IKR! i thought i was the only one who got that refrence.
someone call the doctor
Crying Is for Winners yup, which is perfect for Patrick's freeform jazz :D
This is some good quality editing for something 8 years old.
29gish Yes!!
I seen a comment on Charlie and the chocolate factory video
Try 12 years now!
Drew Russell no I think you are right!! Different decades eras etc have different vibes to them, it makes sense! (:
Rachel Dame a thousand times yes!
I've listened to both songs but this one I could listen to again and again and get the feels
We're as in "Let it go's" case my ears start to bleed
God I miss this movie so much. Just watching it again after so many years made me fall in love with it all over again.
wow back when Disney actually had a meaning.
This film deserves more attention. It's my fave Disney movie and is probably one of the best Disney movies.
A cornerstone in the childhood of so many of us.
I love this song and this movie, it brings back so many memories and it's one of my favorite Disney movies, not to say my favorite!
This film is so underrated. I was amazed when I first saw it and it's one of all time favorite Disney movies
Am i the only one who thinks Jim is freaking hot?
ehm...lol
Cartoon character
We'll that is technically Joseph Gordon-Levitt
He's a bad boy who is deep and understanding. I love him for that
You are most certainly not.
I love this movie so much, but I feel like it resonates with me more as an adult than when I was a kid.
This song has more meaning to those who fully understand it
yeah i love rewatching movies from my childhood i understand them and the message much better when im older
I'm proud to be a 90s kid
Irrelevant. This film came out in '04.
Being born in 96 doesn't qualify you as a "90's kid". You were 4 or 5 by the time it was 2000.
Hannah McGuigan in the 2000's you still lived in the remains of the 90's, so as a 96er i still am pretty sure we lived like you in our young ages
Hannah McGuigan Unless you were born during the 80's or 90/91 at the most, other than that you're too young to probably remember anything. Either way, it's a decade and it's gone.
Hannah McGuigan depends on who your talking to. Technically, speaking being a 90s kid means u were born in a on that timeline. to me anyway.
I am 15 years old. This was/is the one of my favourite movies.
Today, this melody just was in my head. Then I listened it. I am crying now :) IT'S BEAUTIFUL!
+XAvO Studio im 16 this movie was my childhood
This Movie brings back so many memories. It's a good way to understand life kinda, if you watch it from the right perspective that is and also another reason I like to say "I'm still here"
How did this movie become such a box office bomb???
I know! Possibly my favorite movie of all time.
Vesok EDM Ahhhh you know, tell me!
KALIMAindia Well, rewriting a huge classical book (Treasure Island) + making it Scifi, + releasing it in 2002 with not so great marketing...
Clearly it's great, but i can totally see why you'd go "meh" at the time on this.
DavidHaverson And you are....
Well i was just answering your qusetion, why it wasn't a great sucess ...
This and Atlantis are the most underrated Disney movies. Such a shame they are so fantastic.
And thus, amvs began. Thank who whoever posted this, you started all these music videos
Watched this with my father as a child, watched it again now, makes you glad you have a father ya know?
I can't believe I went so long without watching this movie. I watched it all the way through for the first time last night and it left me absolutely breathless. I love this movie so much. It's sad that it's not more popular.
This is one of Disney's most underrated movies.
What an amazing movie... What an inspiring song... Miss those days when I was child and kid movies were full of colours and magic...
+heatherjasper97 but.....the film is about Jim and Silver not Amelia?
Demi Moore I know. I mean that Amelia should get more credit, rather than Bella Swan and like female characters.
+HarmlessCritterz How is cheering on a female character who doesn't hang on a guy's arm "anti-feminist propaganda"?
+heatherjasper97
I think they're trying to say to enjoy the movie for what it is rather than compare it and make it into something else entirely. Twilight isn't directed towards people like us. No need to bring it up here.
Cassius Povey Okay. *Bows head.*
+1717Dave What exactly do you find disagreeable about Frozen vs. 'films like this'? Both movies are all over the place.
have u watched zootopia?
Yes and it was pretty good, especially for having more adult themes. However, it was then followed by the new Jungle Book, which got more praise than it deserved.
Frozen fails to hit anybody in the feels. Treasure Planet is a piece of art. Frozen is a product.
we had a very small box tv to play vhs tapes in the truck when we went on family vacations.
"How can the world want me to change? They're the ones who stay the same." This line is too close to home
If any Disney movie deserves a sequel, it is absolutely this one.
ahhhh the nostalgia is strong in this one..
Memories right in the feels. I used to listen to this over and over again, man loved this so much, still do, it's just sad that Disney can't make movies like this anymore. Movies that actually /move/ you.
These old Disney movies bring back so many memories. Damn my childhood was great.
