this song has always been so special to me, I can't help but get super emotional listening to this even now. I remember listening to this when I was twelve, sobbing, thinking I'd never make it to fourteen, but here I am, eighteen and going strong. Yeah, I'm of a rather similar age and know exactly what you mean. When I was a teen it hit the angst button, a few years later and it became a melancholy nostalgia. These days it's a pure truth in musical format, there's a bottomless depth of wisdom in those words, along with the sweetest pain. Undoubtedly one of the greatest songs ever written.
My favorite song of all time. The opening guitar is unmistakable, and that chorus absolutely hits it home. A timeless classic in every sense of the word.
I was a 17 year-old girl, watching City of Angels in the theater by myself and this song played. It said everything I couldn't, and it's forever a part of my soul. Fast forward 25 years, and I'm going to finally see the Goo Goo Dolls live tomorrow 😍 Thank you for being such a special part of so many lives!
My wife walked down to this song at our wedding 10 years ago. This song means so much to both of us. It has helped us both get through some tough times. And Iris just reminds us that sometimes all we have is each other and we’ve got each other’s backs. Here’s to 10 more years and beyond, babe. I love you. ❤️
I worked security last for their performance in Ridgeport Ct. These guys are genuinely really good guys, very respectful coming in asking how we(the workers) are doing and starting conversations with us, till they packed up to go, they continued to brace us for doing our job and holding it down . Much much much respects and to the people of Connecticut, very nice people out there
Being a stagehand is hard work you run your butts off for hours then you sit and wait to do it again lot of sleepless nights! Keep on keepin on ❤️ ✌️ 🤓 👍
This song is Satanic plain and simple. It is a song about the singer wanting a spirit to enter himself as he says "and I don't want the world to see me as I don't think that they'd understand" why is it that he doesn't want the world to see him???? Please don't tell me you think this was a lyric about a woman lol you'd want the world to know you thought about your girl right??? He is talking about wanting to be possessed and that he knows sooner or later it's over (his life once the spirit is done with him).....it's a dark evil song made to hide in plain sight. Sorry but things aren't what they seem. But carry on.
Also, he keeps looking through the one eyed lense of the telescope.....one eye is showing one eyes is looking through into "space" notice also that there are no women in this video......because again he is NOT talking about a woman or love he is talking about the spirit he is trying to summon via this song. He is telling you who is talking to and what he is apart of via the imagery in the video. Wake up.
'Iris' is a freakin emotional rollercoaster, man! You can practically feel every word Johnny Rzeznik sings deep in your bones. And those guitar riffs? PURE magic. Whether you're belting it out in your car or letting it hit you in the feels at home, Iris is one of those tracks that just gets better every time you hear it. It's like it's got its own little spot in your heart, yk???!!!
Nah its too cheesy and cliche of a song to come off as authentic and impactful. If you want this type of music but with more edge and actual impact, listen to Creed; much better guitar tone and riffs (surely Tremonti is way better than some singer guy who looks like, well, a doll), better voice and lyrics.
Not your fault....real emotion.... Recognize real emotion. I'm at the point where that's all that matters...no one control's it...just ourselves. This song gets 20 out of 10 when it comes to epic emotion.
Seriously, same here. Heard this in a grocery store a few days ago, for the first time in at least a decade, and it's been in my head ever since. The lyrics ended up being rather close to heart, after a thorough listen, in a way that they weren't at all when this came out when I was in High School in 1998.
Sorry for my bad English, but when I hear songs that I grow up, I'm feeling a joy that grows up in those years and brings me a sadness too that years will not come back

However, I can see myself getting nostalgic for these once time passes, as they've helped me get through busy days and lazy hours.
@@kenyaholloway-reliford8213 I'm 18 and I feel the exact same way about old music. Sometimes when I listen to songs that were popular before I was even born, I feel nostalgic as if I used to listen to them all the time when it's in fact the first time I'm hearing about them. Now its just a great memory of her. I still can hear her singing along. The words have always got me but they hold a special place now.
I am so sorry for your loss. It’s great to have those precious memories of your Mum. I lost my Dad and every time I hear a Johnny Cash song, it reminds me of my Dad. I love how music can bring up our precious memories.
I don’t think a lot of people understand what this song is about, it’s about knowing the one for you is out there, you know who they are, you know they’re somewhere, you have a picture perfect reflection of who they are in your mind, yet you don’t know where they are, and they don’t know where you are. But you both know, god you both know you’re out there. God I really need that person right now.
I disagree. I think its about someone wanting to show themselves to one person and be loved unconditionally but theyve held back showing their true self their whole life and dont know how to be that person with the person they love.
The song was written for the movie the City of Angels. An angel must jump off a building to bleed to make himself alive to be with a woman that couldn't truly see him until then. So in that case the songs true meaning is that an infinite and protected nothing is worth less than a short emotional something. I think whats great about this song though is not knowing what it is about. I hadn't learned why John wrote this until recently, and its helped me for so long before then. It can carry so many touching emotional meanings that are so helpful to so many of us.
I legit swell up when i hear this.... i think about being younger.... when i met my oldest daughters mom.... the years.... the bliss..... everything that came so quick that we at one point only thought that wouldnt. Life is nuts man.......... wow
When I turned 17, i had to stay at my grandpa's house and this song was being played on the radio, so my grandma, who doesn't speak any English at all (I'm Mexican), let alone understand this music, turned up the volume for me to listen. She just said: "these are the kind of songs you like, aren't they?" Fortunately she's still to be with me in this world for a long time.

Live acoustic with no autotune or digital enhancements. Peace out and stay safe in the '020s.

this song has always been so special to me, I can't help but get super emotional listening to this even now. I remember listening to this when I was twelve, sobbing, thinking I'd never make it to fourteen, but here I am, eighteen and going strong. It's saved my life more times than I'd like to admit over the years and I'll forever be grateful that this song exists. I'm getting a soundwave of this song tattooed over my self harm scars soon. Thank you.

I was 18 when this song came out. Now I'm 42 and this song hits on a different level. Amazing tune.
Undoubtedly one of the greatest songs ever written.
i absolutely love how music can bring people from all generations together. i just turned 18 in october and this is one of my favourite songs.

This song will never be old, this is gold.
I feel sorry for the people who didn't grow up with this song. This is pure nostalgic bliss.
Facts!!!!
everyone has a time, every time has a person.
Freaking A yes!
Wake up.
It's a beautiful song, you MUST listen to it with the person you love most ❤
'Iris' is a freakin emotional rollercoaster, man!
Agreed, I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing to listen too when I'm drinking.
It brings tears up sometimes, because it's so close to "home"
Very true💕
Nah its too cheesy and cliche of a song to come off as authentic and impactful. If you want this type of music but with more edge and actual impact, listen to Creed; much better guitar tone and riffs (surely Tremonti is way better than some singer guy who looks like, well, a doll), better voice and lyrics.

I feel the exact same way. I always feel...I don't know, something about this song 😭😭 bit's of deja Vu. Maybe your the one😂🤭🤭
Thanks good to know...
hang in there buddy
Life is nuts man.......... wow
I really think this is one of the greatest love songs ever written
the words are amazing

"Run to the water" by Live is my personal favorite. The song has amazing lyrics
When I turned 17, i had to stay at my grandpa's house and this song was being played on the radio, so my grandma, who doesn't speak any English at all (I'm Mexican), let alone understand this music, turned up the volume for me to listen. She just said: "these are the kind of songs you like, aren't they?"
Fortunately she's still to be with me in this world for a long time.
Ooh, idk why but this made me cry
@@lovelynicholas_2007sure you do
Awww thats precious. Brought tears to my eyes. I miss my granny.
I was 18 when this song came out. I was living with my granny.
@CoralandSOLO No thank you
After listening to this band for the last 20 years I finally saw them live tonight, the entire show was incredible. Iris was truly emotional, there is something about this song that is indescribable, soul touching really. Just an unbelievable show.

If music was the breath of life. This song would be oxygen.
Well said
Beautiful comment
it is a song that kind of takes you into the darkness or lonelynes of your own psyche. and it does illustrate the way a lot of teens were in the 90's
💯💯💯
The crazy part is you're right
Hi I recommend a song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
I miss this kind of music style.. Even though I was born in 2000's I still love to hear this 90's songs.
CGV Taehyung oppa omg same
I'd be honored if some GooGoo's & 90s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performance of their first big hit NAME on my YT channel in tribute to the masters. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
I love acoustic music than the original music. Idk but it gives me peace of mind and take away the stress every time I listen to it.also the old songs,I really love those.sometimes, people around me especially those who were the same age as mine kept telling me 'hey, what kind of music of is that. It's too old .youre still in your mother's womb at that time that song were made so why listen to it. ' instead of answering those nonsense words,I just shrugged and smile.
Then I ask myself ,what's wrong with that it's still called music.
Nevermind me... Hahaha
Same me from 07
I know that feeling...
This vibe, this energy, this feeling. THIS is exactly what the current broken world needs right now. 💔
