Have a 2012 CX9, same issue as described in the video. Happened to me after I changed the transmission oil, which never had been changed earlier on, got multiple different views for different people. But I must say the shudder fix tube did the job, if not 100, 90-95% of the problem has gone. Really happy with the outcome. Thanks for the video
Thanks for this tip. My 2008 CX-9 I just purchased from my dad was having this exact same problem. It has 206K miles so I was thinking about taking it to a shop to see if I was going to need some transmission work done. I stumbled across this video and figured I’d give it a shot. I picked up this stuff at Autozone for about $13, and was surprised at how well it worked. You notice a difference your first trip after adding it in. Id say it fixed at least 90% of the problem. I am amazed how much of a difference it made.
Shudder came back, I changed out the spark plugs, shudder is completely gone. Hope this helps someone. Subway surface commenter was correct, change out the plugs. Like a new car again.
After changing my trans oil about 3 years ago, I had a bad shudder. I used this Shudder fix and went another 40,000 miles. I did another change recently and forgot to add the shudder fix again, I did add one more bottle and back to shifting normal.I suspect that Ford/Mazda added a friction modifier at the factory for these transmissions. My 2008 CX-9 now has 179,000 miles on original transmission and engine. Thanks for the video. Great product. Works wonders.
This stuff really works! Put it in and have driven for five days now. I can't feel any shudder at all. Mine was shuddering in 4th gear, at slow acceleration, right at about 1500 rpm. I can't believe this was a simple fix. I'm hoping this will last. Thanks again for the video.
After a couple of weeks a very slight shudder, almost unnoticeable came back in 4th gear. Because I had not used the Mazda recommended transmission fluid I decided to flush the system using the transmission pump by disconnecting the coolant lines. The old fluid was not red even though it was only installed for a few months. By flushing it this time and using the JWS3309 fluid and one tube of Shudder Fix there is absolutely no sign of shudder in any gear now. If that ever changes, I'll post it here. I'm glad it worked for you too!
I have the same problem and will test this as soon as I can. My 2008 CX9 has a 160K miles on it and has been doing it since quite a while. Love everything about this car except this shutter.

I have the same problem and put in Lube Gard. The problem reduced but still there. Then I found that by switching to Manual mode the problem eliminated about 98% of the time. You still get very mild shuddering around 4th gear at 1000 RPM but not as bad as in Auto mode.
We had similar problem. The transmission shop could not find a problem and suggested this could be car performance/tuneup issue. The problem was fixed after replacing the spark plugs as some website suggested spark plugs or ignition coil could be an issue. Spark plugs replacement is a 2/3 hour work and got it done in a shop. Before going to the transmission shop, I had used this lube but it did not change any thing with my car situation.
Does your car have a dual clutch transmission where you can do both automatic and manual shifting?? Lube guard says not to use it on dual clutch trannys. But if it worked for you, I'd like to know, and for how long did it work? I have a Mazda Cx7, and my have to use in the future since previous owners never changed out the tranny fluid. I just did a drain/fill at 108k since fluid was so dark.
We had a shudder issue with our 2008 CX-9 which has just over 290,000 km on it. Turns out it's not the transmission but the U-joint at the drive shaft. The drive shaft needs to be replaced - it's costly but not crazy expensive. The CX-9 is off the road until the drive shaft comes in, which is currently on back-order.

@@Chance2Go awesome thank you, I put some in this morning and seems to be subsiding. I will get the mazda fluid my next flush, thank you for responding.
Our 2012 CX9 sounds like it runs over the rumble stops on the side of the road (or middle) when it is accelerating around 40-45 mph. Is that a “shudder” by your definition. Mechanic is saying transmission issue
Hi @Parker.. my 2008 cx9 had same problem. Dealer did a software update for Torque control. But didnt help. Now its occurring at gears 4,5,6. Seems gotten worse. And they say to replace the Torque convertor plus the fluid for $2700. Does this makes sense. I’m not sure if something major happened with the Transmission!! And not sure of the odds for a 100% fix even after the TC replacement !
Not sure. Try adding the Shudder Fix fluid. I eventually traded mine for a new CX-9 because both the transmission and transfer case needed to be replaced for $7,000. Sudder Fix prevented the shudder problem though until the new problem.
Our CX9 2008 at 128k km had shudder while changing lanes on highway. It happened on gear 3, 4 n more so at 5. There was hesitation to accelerate. I sent it to dealership to have a complete ATF flush n a change 1 week later. . I changed the air filter n also spray cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor. 1 tube of this wonderful fluid was added as the last resort. After spending C$650 the shudder problems was still there at every stage. Finally I got the 6 spark plugs replaced with new plenum n throttle body gaskets for C$250. Tedious details for this change r here in this video: ua-cam.com/video/gPZrjQY0g5E/v-deo.html Now our CX9 is back to zoom zoom again...
Great video, thanks for posting. I am having the exact same problem with my 2010 CX-9 (about 101,000 miles). You are correct in that it is difficult to find useful and helpful information on this problem (other than replace the entire transmission). I am going to go out today and buy some "Shudder Fix" and try to report back in a week or so. Did you simply pour this into the transmission via the dipstick tube?
Yes pour it in. I also recommend changing the transmission fluid but only use the recommended JWS3309 (I think) Mazda fluid. Amazon has the shudder fix product.
We are having the same issue, I flushed the transmission fluid and it seemingly made it worse. My question, where it is only a 2oz package, is did you need more than one and how long till you could tell the difference? Thank you.
mxP443 did you use the Mazda recommended transmission fluid? If not, flush it again. Shudder Fix worked instantly. It took care of 95% of the problem. When I then flushed the old fluid for the correct specified fluid then added one tube again, it solved it 100% and has remained fixed for several months now.
I have an issue with a very hard downshift from 5th to 4th. Mine is a 2011 with 167k. It's been happening for probably 40k miles. Double ATF flush seemed to help for maybe a week, then it was back. Anyone else having this known issue - and have a fix for it? I don't think lubeguard is the answer for my issue.
Try Lucas Trans Addative. I used it for hard up shifts(2nd and 3rd gear)on my 2004 Pontiac Motana, worked wonders!! Must suck out/drain a guart of trans fluid then add a quart of Lucas!
It worked great on my 2007 CX 9 but i should have changed the fluid first. It’s seems to work best in hotter climate. It’s starting to get cold here and it starts to shudder until the transmission fluid warms up.
Mazda removed the dip stick around that year. I think there is a bolt that covers the hole to add fluid into the transmission. You may need a mechanic to help locate it.
hi at what mileage should transm. fluid b changed? also my gear stick gets stuck at p position so i temporarily unplugged the gear sensor to be able to shift to d. any clue why it gets stuck at p? thank you
The factory does not have a recommended change for the fluid. It seems smoother though since I did at 100,000 miles. Only use the Mazda recommended fluid and flush all of the old fluid out. Draining the pan only gets half of it out. I tried different fluid at first but didn't completely solve the problem until I went back to the Mazda fluid. I am not sure about the other problem that you are having.
The shudder did not return but I had another problem with the transfer case that caused me to trade in the car one year ago. I bought a new CX-9 and love the car.
@@AaronAviion The splined shaft that connects the transfer case to the transmission stripped due to inadequate lubrication. Both the transfer case and the transmission had to be replaced at $7,000. I complained to Mazda USA because it seemed like a design flaw and they offered a discount on a new Mazda so I traded it.
Most likely the transfer case failed. If the splines between the transfer case and transmission are stripped the transmission will also need to be replaced. That happened to my 2008 CX-9, this past January. in this video and the dealer wanted $7,000 to replace both. Instead, I contacted Mazda Corporate and traded it in for a new 2018 CX-9. Because the car was so old Mazda wouldn't help fix it but they did give me a discount (employee pricing) on a new one. I am very happy with the new car.
@Chance Parker, below you say, "I eventually traded mine for a new CX-9 because both the transmission and transfer case needed to be replaced for $7,000. Sudder Fix prevented the shudder problem though until the new problem.". What was the new problem?
Walt van de Kust t shaft between the transfer case and transmission wore out due to lack of lubrication. It would have required both to be replaced. In research I found this to be a factory defect. Even though it was over 10 years old I contacted Mazda and they offered employee pricing on a new one. It got me about an additional $1,500 off of the best price I could get. The new CX-9 is far superior to the old one and I’ve had no issues in 39,000 miles so far.
The spline between the transfer case and the transmission failed. The splines were stripped due to improper lubrication. From what I read this was a design problem. To fix it would have required replacing both the transfer case and the transmission at $7,000! Mazda Corporate is or was helping fix these if the car is 2009 or later. Mine was a 2008. Instead they offered me employee pricing on a new car. I liked the 2018 CX-9 so I took it and like everything about the car. It's much more refined than the 2008 and I did like that car until I had the transmission problems.
Chance Parker does it happen only it AWD versions then? I got FWD 135k miles on it and no fluid has been changed since it was produced. Curious if I had to change it if I dont find anything wrong with the car yet.
Hi, how is your CX-9 after using this Shudder Fix 9 month ago?. I'm having the same problem and I'm about to do the same thing you just did. But I would like to know if you after posting the video had some problems. Regards.
The shudder problem did not return. In January the transfer case went so I lost AWD. When I took it to the dealer they confirmed that but after removing the transfer case found the splines to the transmission were stripped. It would have required replacing both the transmission and transfer case at $7,000. I called Mazda corporate to see if they would help even though it was a 10-year-old car. They wouldn't help cover the repair costs but did offer employee pricing on a new car. That got me an additional 4% off the price of the car plus all the other incentives. So I bought a 2018 CX-9 and love it. The turbo 4 cylinder has more torque than the old 6 cylinder and it gets 25% better gas mileage! I am in the mid 20's MPG now. Hopefully this one has a better transmission and transfer case than the old design. Time will tell...

Hey man I know its been a while since you uploaded this but maybe you can help me. How much of that shudder fix fluid did you use? Did you use the whole pouch? Also, was your transmission dipstick located closer to the back by the intake and the hole for it the size of a coin? Sorry I know its alot of questions, but I'm having the same issue and want to give this a shot. I appreciate it man.
Joe T. Hi Joe, yes use the entire tube. My 2008 had a traditional dipstick. Later years have a screw hole like you describe. I since traded mine for a 2018 that I love but this solved the problem for a year for me.
@@Chance2Go I appreciate man, thank you so much for the quick reply! I'm gonna give this a shot and cross my fingers!
How much of a pain in the neck was it to pour in the liquid?
So I have a Mazda CX9 130k and I had this happen last month, it was tough describing it to my mechanic but it sounds exactly the same ( I Think). Around 40-50 mph slow light buck,. My mechanic was confused with no lights coming on, he must have called another mechanic who probably recommended this product, he just told me he added something but I have not driven it too much, tomorrow to work will be a test. I really hope it works, new transmission I can't afford now. How many more miles have you put on yours, I am wondering if It is fixed and If I should sell mine? Thanks for your post
I traded my 2009 for a 2018 about 6 months after this video when the transfer case failed. The 2018 seems much better engineered than the 2009 with far fewer problems.
@Chance2Go I had to drive 100 miles the other day to airport it was driving great but my AT light popped on the last 10 miles, I shut it off picked up family and drove back the light was off then popped on, did your AT light go on. I'm praying 🙏 to hit lottery 🙏
Any reports back on how long the LubeGuard works? I have had this problem for the last 3k miles. Changed fluid at 130k and again at 166k to see if that helps (used Lucas too). The rest of the car is great. Anyone replace their transmission? What did that cost?
So did you add the Lube guard? ...or just the Lucas?
Hi I know this video was made awhile back but I'm having the same issues with my Mazda 6 2009, already flushed the transmission fluid twice and seems to have gotten better but still a slight studder between 35 55 mph when slightly hitting the gas. Just wanted to make sure if it's OK to put this stuff down the dip stick hole? Thanks in advance!
Yes, and you should have used Mazda transmission fluid. I tried another brand and learned I should have used Mazda fluid.
Yes, that's it.
@@Chance2Go I’m having difficulty getting the torx head cap out. Any suggestions?
@@EJR898989 No, I am not a mechanic just a previous 2008 owner and now own a 2018 CX-9 which is a much better design.
I have this problem with a 2013 toyota rav 4 doing a shudder/vibration. Dealership says $3500 repair to replace trans. Thank you!
I used it but it’s still making shutter should I use another one
You can try but if one didn't fix it, it is more likely a bigger issue
Our CX9 2008 at 128k km had shudder while changing lanes on highway. It happened on gear 3, 4 n more so at 5. There was hesitation to accelerate.
I sent it to dealership to have a complete ATF flush n a change 1 week later. . I changed the air filter n also spray cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor.
1 tube of this wonderful fluid was added as the last resort.
After spending C$650 the shudder problems was still there at every stage.
Finally I got the 6 spark plugs replaced with new plenum n throttle body gaskets for C$250.
Tedious details for this change r here in this video:
ua-cam.com/video/gPZrjQY0g5E/v-deo.html
Now our CX9 is back to zoom zoom again...
I did several of the things you tried and was quite relieved when a $3 tube solved the problem.
@@Chance2Go where do we get in from.malaysia
@benjaminbaker2733 Have you ever previously replaced the tranny fluid? Also, did the shudder fix work?
Just did my 2009 cx9 113000 ml update in a few hrs let you guy know the results
It's been awhile...what was the update?
We are having the same issue, I flushed the transmission fluid and it seemingly made it worse. My question, where it is only a 2oz package, is did you need more than one and how long till you could tell the difference? Thank you.
mxP443 did you use the Mazda recommended transmission fluid? If not, flush it again. Shudder Fix worked instantly. It took care of 95% of the problem. When I then flushed the old fluid for the correct specified fluid then added one tube again, it solved it 100% and has remained fixed for several months now.
So where do i pour that in
I have an issue with a very hard downshift from 5th to 4th.
Can i get transmission complete kit in Qatar?
Will this work in a 2010 Mazda CX-9
Hola te funcionó?
It worked great on my 2007 CX 9 but i should have changed the fluid first. It’s seems to work best in hotter climate. It’s starting to get cold here and it starts to shudder until the transmission fluid warms up.
I cannot find where to put the transmission fluid it is a 2012 CX9
Mazda removed the dip stick around that year. I think there is a bolt that covers the hole to add fluid into the transmission. You may need a mechanic to help locate it.
hi
at what mileage should transm. fluid b changed?
also my gear stick gets stuck at p position so i temporarily unplugged the gear sensor to be able to shift to d. any clue why it gets stuck at p?
thank you
The factory does not have a recommended change for the fluid.
Chance Parker thank you chance. there is only 85k km on my car so u think it is still early to change transm. oil?
thx again for your responses.

Hi Parker, Hope you are going great.
Just wanted to know is it still running smoothly ? or you had to upgrade
The shudder did not return but I had another problem with the transfer case that caused me to trade in the car one year ago. I bought a new CX-9 and love the car.
@@Chance2Go please how can I change the transmission oil
@@Chance2Go what was the other problem?
@@AaronAviion The splined shaft that connects the transfer case to the transmission stripped due to inadequate lubrication. Both the transfer case and the transmission had to be replaced at $7,000. I complained to Mazda USA because it seemed like a design flaw and they offered a discount on a new Mazda so I traded it.
Thanks! Been having this problem with my 2009. Will try.
Chris b have you had any results?
How do you add it to the transmission?
curtis reese my 2008 had a dipstick. Later models did not. I think there is a bolt you remove then use a funnel.
My uncle has a 2008 but he said his doesn’t have a dipstick. But I can find where the bolt is. But you just add it to the transmission fluid?
curtis reese , yes, add it to the transmission fluid
Ok thank you so much
Hello All, I have Mazda cx9 2008 and its 4WD system is Not switched on while offroad, could it be transmission problem?
Most likely the transfer case failed. If the splines between the transfer case and transmission are stripped the transmission will also need to be replaced. That happened to my 2008 CX-9, this past January. in this video and the dealer wanted $7,000 to replace both. Instead, I contacted Mazda Corporate and traded it in for a new 2018 CX-9. Because the car was so old Mazda wouldn't help fix it but they did give me a discount (employee pricing) on a new one. I am very happy with the new car.
Chance Parker if the transfer case failed will it be able to be replaced? Or need to replace transmission?
Does this last for a long time? Or does the problem come back?
It lasted about 8 months but I eventually had other problems that caused me to trade in the car
Chance Parker hey, what were the other problems that forced you trade it in?
Only the AWD has a transfer case. I would recommend flushing the fluid with the Mazda fluid. It's a lot less expensive than a new transmission.
Time will tell...
is this the 2 or 4WD?
AWD

What is the problem and what is the solution?
mrem mrem , I don’t know. You can try the Shudder Fix but I don’t think that will fix it.
Great thanks for the info
Has anyone had the AT dash light come on in conjunction with the shuddering? ATF fluid isn't that old, but the car has 125K miles on the odometer
I have several times. The Automatic Transaxle light and Check Engine like will pop on at the same time and my vehicle gets stuck in 3rd gear. Hooked mine up to a scanner and said it was the Shift Solanoid Circuit High.
Hey I never change my transmission fluid do I half to change it before using this because I am getting the same problem
No, I did it at first without changing it so try it. If it does not completely eliminate the problem then change the fluid.
Welp, not buying a Mazda cx9.

I had to replace the valve body.
Did you fix it with the valve body replacement ?
Son of a 3###%%/## too late for me had my car in shop shutter gone now transmission screwed up....
This is not working bad product
It doesn't claim to fix a bad transmission. It appears to work for a lot people. But it probably won't work in every situation.
The transfer case are trash
