Who’s listening to this in 2024?
I just did !! Best decade ever !!
Have the album Invisible Touch in the vehicle. So good. Best to you!
And 2025 and 2026 and on and on
Yo
🙋🏻♂️
I don't think any of us knew how good we had it back then.
I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then (re: music)! lol
Actually, there are still great musicians, but corporate radio ignores them.
True story! What I'd trade to go back and take another shot, so much I'd get right!
Sure didn't 😢
Good times will return.
Once we get off the couch
and Make it Happen!
Best of times
There will never be another Phil Collins
There will never be another Genesis.
You've got that right
80's. The best music era. Best wonderful teenage years.
Yes definitely. I remember going to see Genesis Invisible Touch tour at Wembley in July 1987. We had all just done our A levels and left school. Wonderful memories 😂
This song is so epic. I swear Phil Collins achieved some kind of musical enlightenment in the 80's where he just could not write a bad song. It was just hit after hit after hit between Genesis and his solo albums.
True!!!
Its called musical genius and he was in the open hit a stride and stayed on board his creative ethics .
Its is quite extraordonary not all writers get this ..opening ..❤thank God .The great master player ..
The older it gets, the better it sounds. Beautiful.
60s,70s,80s music is the best era of music in the history of the world
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love Phil's tongue-in-cheek intro to this. ❤
Invisible Touch was the best record of 1986-87.
Tony Banks keyboards on this track are just sublime...
Agreed!!!!
Two years ago, I learned my best friend in high school (class of '85) had drank herself to death. I remember the day we were introduced to Genesis, and it literally changed her. Turns out, she was passionate about their music for the rest of her life. I was driving home crying, and turned on the radio and this came on. Hadn't heard it in 20 years. It was the right goodbye from / for my friend. Thank you Genesis for years of soundtrack for our lives.
😪😪😪😪
I hear you this song is bittersweet...I loved a guy who I never told how I felt but he's gone now out of my life and married to someone else I'll always love him in my heart
I miss the 80s ..I wanna go back in time ...anyone wanna join me
I'm right there with you on that plan! 🎉😂
I do
If you can, pick up a copy of his book. Not Dead Yet. A fabulous look back...💕
Have we left yet?
Unfortunately, I think @ it Daily -
Then put on 80 /90s music on Repeat
& Get Happy 😊
Mid 80's. Magical time to be alive. 21 yrs old and had the world by the balls.Too bad I didnt realize it. We were all too busy having fun. The music, movies and life in general.
Absolutely
I closed my eyes, and for four minutes and seventeen seconds, I was back in the fall of my sophomore year of college.
Love this ! Perfect
Phil Collins is EPIC there will NEVER be any one like him EVER
YES!
Definitely!!
Peter Gabriel :P

@@melissabalcacer43 ;) I still adore Phil, especially now what he's goin thru :)
*One of the greatest breakup songs from one of the greatest Bands of all time...*
Yep. My girl left, told me to listen to this song, the year 1986. Never heard from her again. Probably the biggest mistake I’ve made.
This song was huge when I divorced my first wife.
I still love her with all my heart. And miss her every day.
But
You can make it through keep your eyes on Jesus listen to your beautiful music think about the good times give this music bring back the good memories 2:31
Wearing tight clothing.
I sincerely don’t understand how Phil is not in the top 3 singers ever. So many hits and number 1s over his time. Forever a legend.
He is in my Top 10 for sure.
Top 10:
Michael Jackson
John Lennon
Billy Joel
Phil Collins
Paul McCartney
Cat Stevens
Bryan Adams
Tom Petty
Prince
Liam Gallagher
💯EXACTLY
@@bleep77 that’s a good list!
Forever!!!
I read that he's reviled by the left for being suspected of having conservative views.
One of the best song of Phil Collins - The awesome singer that has no replacement ever.
Phil Collins, Mike Jagger, Genesis, The Police, The Rolling Stones, AC-DC, Kiss, and so many others. A golden Age that I had the luck to live in. I'm still young, at 55 years born in 1968
Simple minds, Tears for fears, U2, Roxy music, Yes, Caravan, Camel, ELO, Duran Duran, Talk talk.......
I'm the same age 55 and agree entirely. I remember going to see Genesis Invisible Touch tour at Wembley in July 1987. We had just done our A levels and left school on the Friday, then saw Genesis on the Saturday. Hard to believe its 37 years ago!!
Genesis
"Throwing It All Away"
Invisible Touch
Atlantic Records, 1986
As a kid, I liked many songs, but when I grew up and understood more about life, I realized that 80's music was loaded with lyrical depth and emotion. This song has an interesting juxtaposition, musically it's kind of upbeat, but these lyrics are quite poetic and sad. Such a perfectly arranged song.
It was a combination of lyricism of people who actually had thought about what they wanted to put into their art, and artistry to make that consumable for those who were out to sell records/tapes/CDs. The problem with music today isn't that artists aren't artists, it is that too many people in charge of labels/platforms are chasing dollars to let these artists develop 'properly'.
There are many recent songs that touch me in the same way these hits do, they are just mired in the swamp of fly-by-night operations looking for a buck, or megacorps churning out gunk like they're doing us a favor.
Okay boomer
I agree good rhythm
Sometimes a great song reminds you of a special person and remarkable woman!😢
@@kevinhoward603 i am right there with you brother
Hands down, my favorite Gensis song ever. I could put it on repeat and listen to it over and over again and love every second.
I listen to it several times every day..................
Me too
Still jam it everyday. This song heals heartbreak a little bit every time you hear it!
❤
Me too...every time I hear this song I'm immediately teleported back to 1986. It is so close to my heart and just every time I hear it I'm in tears by the end. I miss those times so much as I was 10 years old in 86 and it was just an amazing magical time in my life. I wish Phil could live forever as I love him SO MUCH!
One of the greatest bands ever
😮My fave lyrics of the song "the only sound you'll hear is the sound of you're voice calling... calling after me"😢...words to live by...
Genesis will remain a cutting edge band for ages to come!!!!!!!!
Late at night when u call my name the only sound you will hear is the sound of your voice calling.... calling out to me.
An unmistakable voice… this song hit me in the eighties as a kid. Now as a middle aged man, I miss these days.
I wish i could go back to this time
Yep world now is f##ked
Me too.......2021
You can, for at least 4:17 minutes watching this video, or in your minds memories for as much and as long as you'd like.
Oh how I wish I could go back to these days!
Yes Bob……. Obviously we cannot go back but when I hear music like this, it truly takes me back to a time in my life where the only worry I had was being in college and finding the money to go to a concert. Oh and by the way, those concert tickets were about 25.00 back then!!! Crazy how things have changed. I saw Genesis back then and I’m quite certain that I paid less than 20.00 for a ticket. The world has gone crazy!!!!
I love videos where we just see the band messing around and having fun, it creates a certain nostalgia
This is going to be my theme song for cleaning out my garage!
😂 best comment I’ve read in a while specially now that I’m decluttering 😂
This guy (Phil Collins) is music itself
#PhilCollins #Genesis #80sMusic Still loving this in 2023 with the awesome old school music power of classic MTV and Phil Collins.. anyone else?
Most definitely! 🎶🥂
These were true musicians, no noise, just connecting our spirit
I was a Saturday girl hairdressing in 1987 I earnt £12 for an 8 hour day. I saved my money and ordered ‘Throwing it all away’ on 12” it took three weeks to arrive and I’ve still got it now xxx
Money well spent
We all took it for granted at the time like you say. But we all knew deep down that the 80's was a special time. Phil Collins was the soundtrack of that decade
1986. Lots of radio play. Remember it well. Sighs. 40 years old now and I stay with stuff like this when songs were still good and had meaning. I applaud the young upstarts who can appreciate old stuff like this, even if they weren't born yet.
Song still gives me chills they really don’t make music like this anymore ❤️
They damned sure dont.
It's sad no music today will ever compare to 70s 80s and 90s❤
This transports me to emotional happiness.
Yeah the "just throwing it all away, is there nothing that I could say?" chorus part is so awesome.
True!!!!
I love the 80s that's when music was music 🎶 🎵 ❤❤
I am just about obsessed with Genesis right now. But Phil Collins era has been growing on me like crazy. Every era....
Proceding to the Revelation I secretly preach to "The People"
"The People" JUDGED by a kid. Who they used to be judges them. Their fear marks them, it is all on them
This song is just so freaking good
even better than that --
musicianship and songwriting… who knew
Yes it is!!!!
So good!!;
UA-cam is like a time machine . You are all immortalized . Thank you Genesis for all the wonderful songs . Thank you Phil . You are adorable 🥰
One of the greatest ballads ever.
Agreed!!!
I remember growing up in the 80's and this man got me through a lot of the tragedies of my life. Thank you Phil
Phil pretty much ran the 80's.

I know Sean. Right there with you.
Same here.
You are so right. Its funny how a song can bring back so many memories.
This man may not realize how his music, lyrics, and personal experiences have impacted so many of our lives....for quite some time..... I am 61 and I can say that the influence of this music was major in my life..... crazy....maybe.....but true
Great, but Mike Rutherford mainly wrote this song.
Agreed, you are SO right! There are SO many of his and Genesis's songs that have impacted my life and helped me IMMENSELY through some turbulent and trying times.
Lisa I am almost 60, I feel the same way about their music. As far as I am concerned it does not matter who wrote the songs. Their music is priceless.
That would make you 63 years old you're an amazing person most girls do not share their age I'm 61 for some weird reason I had a heart attack a few weeks ago but I'm doing fine anyways this song is amazing brings back so many memories of the 80s
@@EdSmith-bq1ox Here is to your rapid recovery! Age to me is just a number. I took my Mom for A magical mystery tour yesterday..And had a playlist of her fav songs . Music gets me nostalgic. So, I literally took her to our house we grew up in. The owners welcomed our intrusion, we had a blast. The son was there, he is 60 and I told him stories of who exactly had been to that house, including Jeff Beck.
But late at night when you call my name, the only sound you'll hear, is the sound of your voice calling, calling out to me. Now that's emotionally strong lyrics.
Yes for sure!
My favourite verse in the whole song...reminds me of the first time my heart was broken...💔
I didn't know what real heartbreak was until losing my wife and best friend . Phil get me through this

You’re right about that!!!
Thursday, October 9, 1986 , Chicago - My first time seeing Genesis with my older brother and his girlfriend. Just found the ticket stub tucked away in a box from long ago, The price for a main floor seat, row 26, back then $17.50! Such an amazing memory. Still one of my favorite singers and songwriters of all time. Just had to play some of the music tonight. Now if I can only find the t-shirt I bought that night.
Hey good luck with that! Do you have an attic?
1962 and I hope that guy does find his shirt from the Genesis concert that he went to@@reneetherese1963

I love Phil and his music it's absolutely great ❤😊
My husband and were split up and after I heard this song and I took out our girls and went back to him right after that I got pregnant with our son our miracle baby. It was so worth it ie. We've been together for 43 years. Thank you Genesis.. ! ❤
Truly a legend.
This is one of my favorite singers. I heard this song back in 1986 and I loved it then, but when I heard it today, 33 years later, it made me cry. I guess that's the difference between hearing and living a song.
I was born in that year of 1986 and I had subsequently listened to the songs from the Invisible Touch album (and watched the corresponding music videos) later in my lifetime.
❤
The end part of 86 was a great year@@manuelalvarado6510
I took the 80s for granted. 🤦♂️
We all did!
Check out those 80 styles for sure!
Ain't that the truth....
Yeah we all did such magical fun times that are gone. I believe we will find it again someday...
We all did...damn
One of the greatest singers and groups ever!! With Genesis and as a solo artist, Phil Collins is one of my all-time favorites!
The solace I've found merely in virtue of the soothing cadence of his voice is remarkable to say the least. What a legend.
The music is just Timeless when you listen to one of those songs is like going back in time for those times when they came back when it came out I love Genesis

My favorite Genesis song.
Phil Collins could do no wrong back in the 80s. Everything he did was magic. Who can forget his Miami Vice appearance!
Please pray for beloved Phil, he isn't doing too good with his health. We love you Phil.
Yes we do
That’s because he went Disney, the dark side’
Praying for him🙏I love his music and him so much
Phil, this life is just a dream,we will live forever 🙏
Just saw Genesis in concert in Chicago 2 nights ago. Aside from the nerve damage he has or whatever makes it hard for him to walk, he seemed to be doing pretty good. Was definitely in good spirits at the concert, joking around with everyone, and DAMN does he still sound good.
Need I say I love you
Need I say I care
Need I say that emotions are something we don't share
I don't want to be sitting here, trying to deceive you
Cause you know I know baby that I don't wanna go
We cannot live together
We cannot live apart
And that's the situation
I've known it from the start
Everytime that I look at you, I can see the future
Cause you know I know baby that I don't wanna go
Just throwing it all away
Throwing it all away
Is there nothing I can say to make you change your mind
I watch the world go round and round
And see mine turning upside down.
Throwing it all away
Now who will light up the darkness
And who will hold your hand
Who will find you the answers when you don't understand
Why should I have to be the one who has to convince you
Cause you know I know baby that I don't wanna go
Someday you'll be sorry
Someday when you're free, memories will remind you that our love was meant to be
But late at night when you call my name, the only sound you'll hear, is the sound of your voice calling, calling out to me
Just throwing it all away
Throwing it all away
And there's nothing that I can say
We're throwing it all away
Just throwing it all away
Just throwing it all away
How the hell did we go from lyrical complexity like this, to the shit on the radio now?
Preach!!
Right!!!

For ended relationships, this song is pitch perfect, it makes me remember my lost relationship of 10 years. I feel sorry about the health condition of Phil Collins right now, the good thing is that he deliver us his daughter, a brilliant actress.

Best concerts in the 80’s!!! Miss that! ♥️🎶🎶🎶♥️
I was only 4 years and 3 months old when this was released. My eldest daughter is now over 4 years and 7 months old. How was I ever younger than she? My life seems like a blur! In the blink of an eye my life is half over! I will be turning 39 in less than 12 hours! This song reminds me of the relationship I have with my daughter's father. He was a baby of the 70's, but a life long lover of the 80's! Also, my first born brother was 7 months when this song was released whereas my baby daughter is 7 months old today!
It was 1986 when he came out with this one. Now its 2020 where are all my friends.? Gone forever now

Phil, when i was a young tweenager and getting interested in rock,my mom instantly approved your music. She said your songs were full of wisdom, and great messages. So you were my first, and at 46 years of age,you are still one of my absolute favs, and your music is still relateable. My fav song is Land Of Confusion. Your music helped me thru some tough times.
