Born in 1983, now I am 40. Our mother is white and father is black. We did not grow up with the “perfect” upbringing, but that only made us stronger. Same here. It was the first album I played in my car (1989 jeep cherokee) when I first got my license and I wore that cassette tape out for over a year. Such a powerful album. Genesis, Sting, Enya, Annie Lennox and Chicago owned me for the entire year of 1997-1998.

To think that Genesis were looking for a new singer when Peter Gabriel left,,, and they almost overlooked the drummer who stood in whilst they auditioned for a new front man. Thank goodness they kept with Phil.
There are singers and songs you hear and they are awesome for a short period of time. Then you don't wanna hear it again. But when it comes to Genesis, Phil Collins as solo, there isn't any hit that we get tired of listening to. We identify ourselves with the lyrics of his songs, the strength of his melodic voice expresses emotions with a special invisible touch that get in through our ears and go straight to deepest emotions. Thank you

My love died of cancer, not a day goes by without me thinking of him! My Ray will always hold my heart, I will never ever move on from this! He still had hold of me!!! I still and always will adore him, Forever AND ALWAYS MY LOVE!
🙏🙏🙏
Wow!! Those are powerful words that I can tell are coming from your heart. Sounds like your love was a very lucky man, may he RIP. You sound like too deep of a person to stay alone. No one will ever replace him, but someone, including yourself needs to feel your love and to give it right back to you. Many blessings Paula.

Shit you'd never hear in the hood but it's a timeless classic
So true😉
you might, soundcloud.com/ninosuperior/intoodeep
Actually, the hood has been turned onto Phil Collins for a while. They still jam it to Sussudio.
@@GorditoCrunch343 very true shit
this thread is hilarious
“Do you like Phil Collins?”
“I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.
Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.”
Explain please exactly what you mean by too artsy .
@@jonnobloggs1139 This is a quote from a movie American Psycho.
What does the person mean by too artsy ?
@@jonnobloggs1139 I don’t know, I guess you gotta watch the movie. 🤣
Do you like Huey Lewis and the News? Just picked up their CD at the radio store
I can't believe such a classic hit such as this has such low views. I'm listening in 2019. Phil Collins is awesome.
3:10 damn💗💗💗
I am , because my life is a Phil Collins song.
Still listening on REPEAT in late 2019!! 😭💖
@@marytatum6395 Mary, it would appear we are on the same page. I have replayed this video about 6 times this morning. I forgot how much impact Genesis had in my life. This song is so beautiful. Great tempo, great lyrics, great singing....what's not to love?
It's a PERFECT song and GREAT video!!

Makes no sense you’d be 35 or already 35 how did your dad just turned 39 has to be a type O or your dad had you at age 4….😂😂😂
❤
The math is off my friend
I took it to read that dad was 39 when child was born in 1988....
This doesn’t make any since idk if you you’re a retard or you’re a kid trying to justify liking an old song by lying about your age on UA-cam 😂

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
agreed. this song came out when I was transitioning from grade school to highschool..and it is totally nostalgic
Yep, there are certain 80's songs that give me painful nostalgia too. My problem is that number is in the hundreds.
I know that feeling exactly. 💜
@@blake7871 definitely.
Exactly!
I think this is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock.

I always thought this song was about a heartbreaking breakup.

When a song really hits you hard and makes you want to reevaluate your choices and decisions
🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻I've always thought that about songs like that. But never had put that feeling into words. ItIt's so true though.
Thats what the 80s music did to you!!
When we have millions of "moments" in a lifetime and just a few beats of one song can instantly transport you to one of those "moments" even if it was 35 years ago, well, THAT'S what a great song can do. ❤
One of the hardest things in live i had to do was leave the only person I have ever loved. He did not care for me, I had to go. Leave him.
Makes me feel so spiritual every bit of this song 🥰
Genesis and Phil Collins are literally the soundtrack of the 1980's.
This song can absolutely break your heart if you have the failed love story it speaks of...
Well said
Failed many times and starting again.. Staying single after this I'm to old to care..
Yes!

Most of us have had that failed love relationship experience at least once......
I would put Phil Collins up with all the greats - alongside the Beatles, Cliff Richard, Elton John etc. He's a legend
No doubt!!
He not dead yet.
He's good, but I preferred the hits when he was with Genesis. The songs had more of a punch with less sappiness.
I'd drop Elton John and put Phil on his place.
Wtf is cliff richard?
Phil Collins made me feel normal. I could always cry w Phil Collins by my side.
❤
😢😢💯💯💯🔥🔥grew up hearing my Moma play Kenny G,Phill Collins,Luther Vandross etc. .now I just listen to the same thing thank God for these timeless heavenly songs like real talk, type of music that soothes the soul ya dig!
I feel bad for Phil now. Can hardly walk and just went through a bad divorce. But at the same time I admire that he still wants to perform. Youre awesome Phil!!!

Yess!
Everytime I hear this song it reminds me of the stuff I went threw with a girl at that time when this song came out
Je ne m en lasse jamais
"It's like we never knew eachother at all... It may be my Fault". I felt that.
That's the line that says it all in this song.
LITTERALLY
Probably the best singer/ Performer in the world at the 80's
Singer n drummer. Legend from the 80s

Really hate to see him get old, so full of talent! He's done so much cool music through the years

Sadly, the time never stops
Most of us get old if we are lucky to live a long time life and aging isn't forgiving to us we age and get old and it sucks too we deal with it cause there is no eternal fountain of youth if your lucky to have kids you will live on through them too ! That is life stay safe!
"I know you're going
I can't believe the way you're leaving
Like we never knew each other at all....."
F*cking brilliant.
I turned up the radio loud after that and shed a few tears🥹💜💯

Driving from London U.K. to Glasgow Scotland everyday back in the late 1990s as a young man listening to Phil Collins on the Alpine made the road trips better.
Same here. It was the first album I played in my car (1989 jeep cherokee) when I first got my license and I wore that cassette tape out for over a year. Such a powerful album. Genesis, Sting, Enya, Annie Lennox and Chicago owned me for the entire year of 1997-1998.

Hey Paul!
You can blame Peter Gabriel for that. Once he left, they really found themselves...
The departure of Peter Gabriel and introduction of Phil Collins changed the creative landscape entirely.
You said that just as well as Christian Bale!!
THIS MUSIC NEVER GET OLD STANDS THE TEST OF TIME
To think that Genesis were looking for a new singer when Peter Gabriel left,,, and they almost overlooked the drummer who stood in whilst they auditioned for a new front man. Thank goodness they kept with Phil.
No body like him❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

2021 and still with us!
All this time, I still remember everything you said...there's so much you promised, how could I ever forget ♡
I almost believed you...
Thank you
England has given the world so much and asked for so very little in return. Genesis is a perfect example.
