@@SuzyQ334 He played an arpeggio in a part when the original recording has a chord played softly a few times. That´s the mistake. I could be wrong but I don´t hear anything off key in his whole performance.
Apparently he's forgotten how to play this on the piano now, I suppose when you have Tony banks on keys beside him for most of his career he wouldn't get too much time to play the piano
It would be ridiculous to call him underrated, you know, considering he was immensely popular, with a plethora of top hits... but I still don't think people realize how good he really was. He made catchy, listenable songs, so it was easy to overlook his very real talent.
No autotune, no light show and an audience without smartphones filming the whole thing. No - pure talent on stage and an audience fully experiencing that✅👍
Yes I gave ya a like for the comment. I'm pretty sure he learned piano at a young age. Long before drums. He performs sitting down now a day singing is all he's got left!!
That is by far the hardest part to believe about Phil Collins. That he might've never been a singer and soundtracked many of our childhoods if he stayed just a drummer.
All I was saying is that I'm pretty sure he learned piano before drums and singing. All though being young he probably didn't realize how good of a singer he would become
You could see it when he sang Hotel California while playing the drums with the Eagles. He doesn’t shy away from the spotlight. Sings and plays with love.
Wasn’t a wrong note as such, it was in a key where all the black notes are played and his fingers must’ve been sweaty and slipped off on to the white one
Accidentally hit the wrong key. I played the piano growing up, this is not a difficult arrangement to play at all, when we mess up we aren't supposed to give it away by making a face. Its virtually impossible to play the piano and sing and never make a mistake. But this arrangement really was on the beginner/intermediate level of piano playing, he must have been very nervous. His singing was on par though no mistakes there.

When I was 6 my mum died from probable suicide and 5 years later I heard this song. When the radio played it for the first time it cut me to my very core and 40 years later it still does. It is a remarkable song, Phil's voice timeless and perfect, he wrote and created a magnificent masterwork. It resonates with profound meaning.
My god, this is so amazing. Not only one of the greatest drummers of all time, he can also do this. No effects , no bullshit. Just pure talent. Incredible.
My mum died 35 years ago today and I feel silly still playing this for her every year. I don't always play this song, sometimes I play others. She loved Phil Collins and it was kinda our thing. I hope she knows I didn't forget her and that I miss her every day.

Yes, in France, we say "canard" (to make a duke 😄) And music teachers always said to me, if you do wrong note, make tour possible not to show it on your face 😊😊
He misses a key early on, cringes & smiles, then powers through with a voice that elevates nostalgia like every strand of hair at the back of my neck. Beautiful songwriter, tremendous performer. Live-Aid may be the best live music event since Woodstock . . .
an awesome performance. Check out Patti Boyd Harrison's autobiography. She explains why he was not on his "A" game and why Clapton played the angriest version of Layla she had ever heard. They were all hopped up and hung over after partying at clapton's all night. It was a mad party mad at wives/gf/exs.
He wrote about this in his autobiography. Sweaty hands made his fingers slip on the keys and hit a clam early on. That aside, the rest of the performance, and his stellar voice, kills it.
I love the fact that he grazes that wrong note (I call that jazz..lol)....it makes the performance that much more human. Benjamin Orr (The Cars) makes a few gaffs on the bass-as well as lyrics, in "Just What I Needed" and I actually look forward to them. As a keyboardist in a band, I like seeing that, "yeah....we all have little hiccups". It shows that we're not machines!
It is...last year around the end of March. I was with my child's mother and was doing my best to make it work. Yet, for 3 years...I was to blame for her depression and how I gave her 2 kids that she didn't need. Seeing when we first met she had 2 girls. I stayed through many times where it was rough for us. Tried to do what I thought was right. Yet still wasn't enough. Then last year at end of March. I had to leave them in Canada. I was only on a visitor's pass. Even though I was dual. But with the boarder closing. We didn't want to have me lose my job. I left hoping it wasn't going to last. But it did. And now I'm still blamed for things I wasn't able to control. Told that me leaving was the best that happened to her. Even though there were years of happiness. I miss my children and the ones I helped raise.

The fact that he hit the wrong key makes this performance even better for me. He smiled it off gracefully and rocked it. 100% human heart

Of course.......absoluty!!!!!
Phil didn't "hit the wrong key". The piano was out of tune. All the musicians commented on it, including Freddie Mercury.
@@SuzyQ334 He played an arpeggio in a part when the original recording has a chord played softly a few times. That´s the mistake. I could be wrong but I don´t hear anything off key in his whole performance.
not many artists can sit at a piano and abolutely belt out a song at the top of their lungs in complete control
Not taking anything away from Phil but your wrong, Elton John,Billy Joel, Freddie Mercury,Tori Amos,Carole King,Dr John et al all just as good.

First time for me to recognize name of this song.
What a strong voice with sitting and playing the piano.
Phil is really talented.
No autotune, no light show and an audience without smartphones filming the whole thing. No - pure talent on stage and an audience fully experiencing that✅👍

I adore this man, authentic man, authentic music, not like the crap we lumbered with today, 💛 a true ⭐️
Hard to believe he was a drummer and never intended on becoming a singer. Glad he did. So much timeless music. Soundtrack to so many lives 🥰
Yes I gave ya a like for the comment. I'm pretty sure he learned piano at a young age. Long before drums. He performs sitting down now a day singing is all he's got left!!
nonsense, he was always a singer in Genesis before he became lead singer, he did backing vocals on all tracks and also lead vocals on one early track
01:05 wrong note!!! loved that smile after...
Wasn’t a wrong note as such, it was in a key where all the black notes are played and his fingers must’ve been sweaty and slipped off on to the white one
Yes, a perfect wrong note for a perfect song.
Not a wrong note asshole the piano
Accidentally hit the wrong key. I played the piano growing up, this is not a difficult arrangement to play at all, when we mess up we aren't supposed to give it away by making a face. Its virtually impossible to play the piano and sing and never make a mistake. But this arrangement really was on the beginner/intermediate level of piano playing, he must have been very nervous. His singing was on par though no mistakes there.
Cozette M in his autobiography he said he was so sweaty that his hand slipped off the key causing the mishap.
This is one of the best live performances ever recorded. Such an incredible delivery with so much passion. A master of music. Love it so much.
When he sings live he sounds just as good as he does on his albums.
I was just thinking that
Exatamente isso
he's my childhood idol, one of the reason i love music back then...
this song do triggers my lost childhood....
sorry just crying again
Yes it is called musical talent, something you needed to have a couple of decades ago, and a lack of autotune, something you didn't have a couple of decades ago.

Hell of a voice for a drummer.
John Black remember watching this with my now wife Phil and queen were the best performers on the day 👌🏻👌🏻🎥🎥
I love the fact that he grazes that wrong note (I call that jazz..lol)....it makes the performance that much more human.
