DDL plays such larger than life characters it's strange that he's so soft spoken almost shy. What a lovely man.

usually kind of introverted and reserved people are the greatest artists. look at Michael Jackson. not that I'm trying to compare him with DDL, since they are of course two very different people in many respects, but you get my point.
I think they get to vent and release a lot of what's inside them when they perform, and that's why it becomes such a great end result. my 2 cents.

This is a big eye opener for me in how long of a process it can take to produce movies/time it takes for a film to actually begin production. It’s 2023 when I’m watching this now but you hear Scorsese mention he really wanted to make the movie “Silence” with Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver and it was just released in 2016. So he already has the film in his mind to produce but it doesn’t come to fruition until 15 years later and there’s no telling how long before this interview is released that he was already doing the writing for it. Even for Gangs of New York they were talking about how they already started writing the script in the 70s and it was released in 2002. Very fascinating!

OMG where do I start with this clip ? Firstly it's two of the greatest people in the history of cinema. The interviewer, who I suspect is well known in the States but unknown in Britain, is knowledgeable and respectful. Scorcese is as always full of enthusiasm and insight ..but Day-Lewis, who is probably the greatest actor in the history of films is actually caught being almost himself. So shy, quietly spoken and self deprecating it's hard to imagine him as Butcher Bill. Since then he has gone on to portray other incredible characters that he always brings unerringly to life .. and then retired again ! A wonderful insight into a genius at work.

    The setting is just magnificent.
The film is almost 3 hours,
it really grips you in the world by the end.
    A cinema experience very unique.
We've seen lord of the rings,
    beautiful medieval backgrounds,
    we've seen dune,
a masterpiece presenting a fantasy world.
But this movie gives you this strong, unapologetic feel of violence, chaos, collapse with political conflicts and racism.
The movie doesn't shy away how brutal the time was.
    black people hanged on street,
    fire lighting up their corpses.
People cheering and in rage yet celebrating.
Martin somehow mix wrath with comedy.

I'd have to surmise that Mr. Day-Lewis, during his 5-year hiatus from filmmaking, was "decompressing." Like a scuba diver heading to the surface, he needed to let his body re-acclimate to normal human conditions. We've heard stories of Heath Ledger's total immersion in "The Joker" character in "The Dark Knight" contributed to his mental imbalance that led him to death. Daniel seems a person how, at times, needs his privacy and to move out of the mind-set of the last character he portrayed.

    • @nicknewman7848
      @nicknewman7848 4 місяці тому

Heath Ledger died because he caught pneumonia after hanging off a bridge all night in January in London. He then foolishly took an accidental overdose of prescription medication and his respiratory system stopped working.
