So I did convert my Freewing Avanti 2 years ago, and came back to this video today because I'm converting a brand new one again. The first was getting a bit tired and was simply retired. It's an excellent plane, and I especially love the big tank so I can fly 10 min. easy. I also did a Freewing T-33 and Gripen X45 conversion but the Avanti is the one I come back to every time. And it flies a lot better than the Sebart Avanti too!
You aren't kidding about the weight of the JP wheels. I installed these brakes on my 90mm Freewing F-18. After flying it several times, I realized they simply weren't needed. When I removed them, I weighed a complete main retract with the factory wheel installed, it was 209 grams. Then I weighed both of the JP wheels, they were 208 grams together, JUST THE WHEELS. They were, essentially, like adding a complete third main retract and factory tire to the weight of the plane. The F-18 has high enough wing loading without adding that extra weight. By removing them I was able to shave about 3/8 of a pound from the plane, making the plane less heavy than it was and simply making the brakes even more unnecessary than they already were. I do, of course, realize that you can not get the AMA turbine waiver for a turbine model that doesn't include brakes, but the weight of these wheels is simply RIDICULOUS!
Absolutely awesome conversion. I would love to convert my Freewing Stinger 90 to turbine. What size turbine do you recommend for the Stinger 90? Thanks for sharing your work, it's very informative and entertaining.
I sell the fuel tank for 130.00. Pipe is 120.00. The uat and all other parts are listed in the UA-cam T33 video #5 I prefer the X45 over the K45gen3. Contact me directly pkappelbaum@sbcglobal.net for parts
I use 65mm jp wheels and brakes with 4mm axles. The jp axles install directly on the stock Avanti struts. To install the stock struts on to the t33 retracts, you need to make a adapter from 5/52 music wire and 5mm od brass tubing
Hey Paul, did you order the 4mm JP brakes for the Avanti? I plan to purchase the T-33 gear also but nothing on the Motion site states the hole dia in the strut. Thanks!
Yes the Avanti takes .65mm jp wheels and brakes with the 4mm axles. I’m going to produce a video on how to adapt a strut with a 4mm hole to a retreat with a 5mm hole
@@paulappelbaum3284 I was just thinking about this, you only replaced the retract servo and not the struts? I have a full set of T-33 struts with servos but I just noticed the axle arm of the strut is facing out vs inside the wheel well. I think the arm itself can be flipped around such that the left side is right etc...but the struts look just a bit bigger than the stock Avanti.
Hi Paul great set-up. Im currently building 2 F111's with a mate and wish to fit two X45 turbines in each aircraft. Could you provide a price for 4 thrust tubes 430mm long. M Hobson

Thank you for doing a full turbine conversion with uni lights on my Avanti v1
You did a fantastic job setting this machine up for me again
Ty Sir ❤
Great flyer! I love seeing it fly at the club
I purchased this kit. Fits perfectly. Everything works if you follow the instruction in the video. This video is priceless. Thanks Paul.
Really enjoyed the video. Great stuff
Best conversion I’ve seen
Absolutely brilliant, next year I'll convert my Avanti S too!

Super video
I am seriously considering this build soon. Will be in contact with you.

X45 !!!

I would recommend the Xicoy X45
Thanks for nice video, can you please share links where to buy tank, metal tube, filter, etc . Also what about Kingtech k45 ? Do you recommend?

If i will use the stock landing gear, What is the size of the gears shaft and the wheel diameter I need?

What is your approx flight time with 40oz of fuel? Thinking of doing this conversion thanks for the video - good stuff!
I normally fly it for 8 minutes Land with about 20% fuel remaining
